Maybe Texas should hook up to the federal power grid, the only reason they don't is because they don't want to have to follow federal regulations, so you are stuck with the 19th century power grid, enjoy the sauna 🥵
Maybe if people shouldn't keep planting trees under power lines it wouldn't be so bad.. or they weren't born in Texas.

Day 5 "Off-Grid" (no power)...
Promises were made by Abbott years ago after more than 70 people died during a winter storm...
We still have -"late 19 Century technology"- electric poles for cables in rural areas and cities, exposed transformers and unprotected generators (from air, rain and winter)...
I am not sure if ERCOT includes every company that owns the infrastructure in Texas, but they have had plenty of time to rebuild, modernize and ultimately develop a network that has the capacity to supply the growing demand and a reliable grid across our State.
My comments are not about "bashing" or calling for people to be fired... the intention is to instill in the companies the will to Build systems with the high-quality that American ingenuity and American products used to have...
The Officials are SNORTIN n EXTORTIN Houstonians Taxes as Yall Willingly Spread Cheeks to thier NONSENSE...
The Lt. Governor is discussing an investigation again, and again, not much will happen, just like the 2021 deep freeze. This after a Category 1 hurricane folks! I can't imagine how much worst it would be if a "Katrina" or "Andrew" hit us.
I was without power for a week back in 1983. I was without power for 3 weeks after Ike. I was without power in the Derecho for a week. This was a strong category 1 storm (near category 2) with gusts up to 120mph. Category 2 starts at 96 mile an hour sustained winds.
To be fair, after an "Andrew" hit Florida many entire neighborhoods were just gone.

I’m with one of the utility companies called into Houston to help out CenterPoint restore power. A lot of the damage comes from fallen trees breaking lines and poles which is priority right now so the whole system cannot be energized yet. You’ll see some blocks have power while others don’t. Most of the time it is because of an open fuse that just needs to be closed. The fuses open to protect the transformers from overloading. We have crews driving around checking all the lines going through back yards.
What is it with the attitude of support to center point? They have not performed their duty, you should be calling that out and holding them to account
I understood it to mean support for the road crews. Those guys have no control over how management mis-manages money.
GREG ABBOTTS PENSION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN AMERICANS LIVES!!! YOUR PUBLIC OFFICIALS ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! NOT CENTERPOINT!!!!
What since does it make to bash folks you depend on to restore your power? It’s a fine balance. You have some folks that are petty that are lineman and would leave you stranded just for another crew to eventually get there. I understand the frustration, but folks really are going to have to calm the anxiousness because nobody can climb that pole and string up their own wire.

I clicked on my street and it says my whole subdivision, Imperial Oaks in South Montgomery County, has been restored. The only problem is that none of it has actually been restored. In fact we still have a downed power line 2 blocks from me with a tree on it. Centerpoint is faking that map to try to look better than they are. Those numbers on the screen are wrong. Stop listening to computers and listen to people. I've had a text from Centerpoint every day bragging about how good they are and never have they given me any useful information. They promised that today we would get another one telling us specifically when we could expect help. They have lost credibility now. We want action taken against Centerpoint and we won't get anything repaired until the mayor sends in the police to arrest that nerdy little computer guy so the workers can get the job done. Watching all those power lines in an urban area is like watching scenes from a third-world country. When will y'all understand that the infrastructure is too important to leave to private companies?
Just as you would not accept gas, water, and sewage on poles, you should demand that the power be in underground conduits. These conduits can easily be laid out together with the gas, water, and sewage.
lol easily. You’re out of touch
Houston is basically on swamp land. Probably wouldn't work. It's not like Arizona soil/foundations.

When,we have power?
4 days we no power
I saw a truck go behind my apartments and 20 minutes later the lights were on. That sounds to me like they just needed to flip a switch!
Sometimes it’s just a replaced transformer box.
Yea… don’t hate the players hate the game. Lineman are special people and if it were that easy then you go do it
They may have needed to do more significant work upstream. Also, they can't "just go flip a switch" until they walk and inspect the entire line and confirm there are no downed segments. Glad you got your power back.
You saw about 000001% of the job. That final step to get you back on could’ve been hours if not days in the making. Also remember electricity is extremely dangerous, the lineman do what they do for a reason.
Having above ground power lines is relic of the 20th century. Our power companies need to upgrade to underground power lines just like many Third World countries that moved to the 21st Century infrastructure. Our politicians are more concerned about serving their rich donner's agendas than serving their constituency. With all the money we are giving to Ukraine and Israel we would have upgraded our electric networks several times.
Pathetic response! This was only a cat 1 hurricane!? They are not prepared for anything so you better prepare to take care of yourselves! If it would have been a cat 4 or 5 you wouldn’t have food water or power for 6 months!
I don't see how they say they are working around the clock. The crew came by 1 day worked on nothing. Literally wasted time. Haven't been back. These trees over power lines haven't been in my neighborhood in years. And after that last storm they fixed everything half assed
Total gaslighting lmao. No one threatened centerpoint
How do you know that? Do you know ALL the linemen?
I wouldn't be surprised if they were being threatened. Electric customers never see upper management...they only see the road crews and personnel at the payment office. So they stupidly vent their anger at those people, even though they're just worker bees following orders.

Why do i feel like repairs have gotten slower since their initial promise to get 1 mil within 48 hrs its been another 48 hrs since and theyve done less work
Because its what they are doing, even worse, we all know nothing will happen as far as holding them accountable. and they will STILL keep lining their wallets and lying to your faces.
They work the large outages first, then they move to the smaller ones, as the restoration progressed they’ll pickup less and less per repair, typically the later repairs are the worst as they’re usually in less accessible places, for example, day 1 they may make a repair that fixes 10,000 people, day 7 that same type of repair might get ya 50 people back on. It’s a long, dirty, dangerous process to restore power after storms hit.

The downpour of rain, along with strong, gusting winds, caused many large trees to uproot. The ground was incredibly soft so I saw huge oaks and pine trees toppled over. Normally, those trees would have survived high winds.

In my 60 years I've seen this too many times. Corporations, if left unregulated and monitored will curb investment to be able to maintain and be ready for things like this....in order to bolster short term profits. I don't know this to be the case, but it would not surprise me. You just can't leave some industries to regulate themselves. They can NOT be trusted, unfortunately.
You know, I will say I have noticed a difference in power line maintenance between Harris and Montgomery. I delivered car parts all over the place, power lines and poles in Montgomery were visible. Treeline could had been a bit further back but there was room. In Harris the poles and lines would get taken into the bushy trees and become part of the patch. Those vegitation cost difference make sense.
Don’t blame the linesmen they’re working hard at least most of them btw. It’s hot in your home but it’s hotter out here 🥵
What's worse than a Texas tornado? a week without power and a twitty tister 🌪😃
Have not seen a single truck in my area. Not one. Map has other neighborhoods projected for lights on today, or tomorrow. I guess that means Sunday at the earliest. There are no visible downed lines in the neighborhood and we took very minimal damage from the storm. I do not understand.
You’ve answered the question as to why you haven’t seen trucks, there’s no damage directly in your neighborhood, the issue is most likely further away, trust me your power will be restored. Hang in there.
@@NDB469 Maybe so, but there is power on in many surrounding neighborhoods. That includes power on in areas where the map says that it is off. And power off in other places where the map says it is on.
Also, do you have any idea how useless and infuriating it is to hear that the power will be restored (someday). And to hang in there. What the hell else am I going to do. I work from the computer in my home, but I can’t do that. My wife teaches from our house, but no AC, no students. And we are relatively lucky.
Also, this was a fairly minor storm. There’s an excellent chance we will be hit by something much bigger this summer, as the gulf heats up.
@@duffyprattok, well, start thinking of how to prepare for the next one. Also the people with power could be off a different feeder, yours may be impacted but theirs isn’t. Also that storm wasn’t a small storm, it was still a hurricane, may not have seemed like much where you are, could’ve been worse than you realize. Unfortunately there’s not much you can do now, but in the coming weeks, think about how you’re gonna prepare.
Thank you, workers, for working hard to restore power to everyone, even with some of the streets still covered with fallen trees. Knowing how much you try, there will be cry babies who think they are more important than everyone else. Thank you again for working so hard.
The workers have nothing to do with the problem. They are doing their best and that's commendable. The problem is that Centerpointless could have and should have been better prepared but they don't really care beyond charging lots of money for crappy service. It seems Abott is calling for an investigation. Maybe he needs a little more money to look the other way.

Center point will trim but you have to call them so they can create a work order. I called them and they came out but they will only trim pole to pole limbs that are touching or near the wire than that neighbor would have to call to have tree limbs cut free of charge. I just wish they could cut down the tree lower than the electrical line.
They’re regulated by the local public service commission and local epa, they can only trim what is threatening the lines.
They stopped trimming when the governor was jogging with his Soney Walkman on and couldn't hear "TIMBER"! WHUT? KHOU
Determining where crews need to go to maintain vegetation around power lines would be a good application for Artificial Intelligence. Still, you can’t predict when a big tree is going to come down & take out a power line.
Right, if someone from the power company knocked on your door and said, “hey we gotta take that big ol tree down that’s on your property, it could take out the power lines if it blows over”. Most people would tell them to pound sand.
