British men's javelin was probably at its best that year with the three Brits here all over 85 metres (never happened before or since with the 1986 javelin spec change) and placing 1st, 2nd and 6th in the European Championships. These days we're lucky to see at least one Brit throwing anything between 75 and 80 metres such is the drop in standards since these guys retired.
