I am an athlete. I saw Jan Zelezny in a training camp with my own eyes. It was around 1989-1990. His coach asked to the athletes present to kindly move away from the whole ground... We didn't recognize him immediately... On the contrary, we thought who is this moron... Then, at the first training throw (with three steps only) we realized that he was a master... Impressive!!! The thing that still impressed me today, 30 years later, is the extraordinary acceleration he could impart to the javelin. The acceleration was amazing. And also I remember well the javelin vibrated in the air and sound never want to come down... There is no video or description that could give an idea of the Zelezny throwing power. Impressive!

Javelin is so hard on the body, most throwers can only peak world class for 3-5 years, people like Thorkildsen/Pitkamaki did it for 7-11 years. Zelezny did it for nearly 20 years, winning bronze at the 2006 European champs at 40 YEARS OLD (!) and making his debut on the world stage around 1987. What an absolute legend!

Genetic freak, half human, half beast. Or that was actually a bionic arm, there's no other explanation. Zelezny is the most dominating athlete I know, I don't know why he isn't more famous (well yes I do, because he reigned before hyper marketing times). His sport is just as classic and appealing as the 100m dash and he was just as dominating as Usain Bolt is, if not more. And he was always the smallest of all his opponents. A true legend.

After years of throwing, his left leg, which stop his moving body after throw, was 3cm(1,18inch) shorter, than the right leg. With smile on his face, he told, that after rehabilitation is everything fine.
Once, he throw over 100m, but it was not recognized as official record, due to non official type of javelin he threw. That was huge disappointment for him, because he was using that javelin for practising and it wasn't just certified.

Yeah, they changed the center of gravity requirement around the time Zelezny threw 104 meters as it was becoming a risk to high jumpers at the end of the field. The guy is almost superhuman. With a further forward center of gravity, the tip fell faster and reduced flight distance. It also made foul throws less likely. Tail first fouls. I threw a lot as a decathlete, best 57 meters. Had strained inner elbow tendons so often and most Javelin throwers do. Very few can do it for years without very sore elbows, and if they don't get that, it's back and hip injuries. Brutal event.
