  • We have a question here from UA-cam user ‘Andy FAB’, who asks ‘what is better for making a guitar neck made from Maple, quarter or flat sawn wood?’
Quite interesting as most of us probably don’t really know the difference between quarter and flat sawn, and the reasons why a luthier would choose one over the other.

These videos are absolutely fantastic. I’m learning a lot, and it’s just like hanging out with a friendly, slightly crabby guy who likes sharing what he knows. Thanks very much!

I have both flat sawn and quarter sawn and like both. I think a prefer flat sawn because of the sound but I admit it's only because I've read there is a difference and I have to say I'm not as fond of the sound of the quarter sawn neck on one of my franken telecaster as I am of the 2 other flat sawn necks that I've put on that guitar.

Doug is spot on: Rodger Sadowsky swears by flat sawn Maple seasoned for at least 5-6 years.
