  • Public Enemy came back to ECW & refused to sell in a match for the Dudley Boyz ➤ TitleMatchNetwo...
    Team 3D (fka the Dudley Boyz in WWE) are one of the most accomplished tag-teams in the history of wrestling. During their rise in ECW, they were scheduled the wrestle the returning Public Enemy (Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge).
    Unfortunately after one match between the teams, Public Enemy refused to lay down after taking the Dudley's finishing move. They were beaten & fired as a result.

    This is a random memory, but now it finally makes sense.
    When Dudley Boyz were playing cards with Acolytes, Bubba says something like “you’re proving to be an enemy.. well at least you’re no public enemy”.. and both tag teams proceeded to ridicule Public Enemy
    Edit: holy shit my memory is strong. I didn’t even hear the Acolytes mentioned yet when I typed this comment

    In all fairness, Vince was right on the money with putting the Dudleys in that camo gear. They looked ridiculous in tie dye and those shortalls, and the camo gave them the look of a serious heel tag team.
    It also once prompted Edge to deliver this zinger while doing guest commentary:
    “I really like the Dudleys’ new ring attire. It has this whole....Bushwhackers 2000 look.”

      The camo was a good move (tye dye was awful) and added credibility but I think it probably had more to do with merchandise as tye dye was very expensive to reproduce and often would produce an inconsistent finish and quality control concerns

      @P4T1CK KING If you're going to use quotation marks at least mark sure what you're stating is correct. This is not what was said, you didn't listen to what was being said so you came to a wrong conclusion. Bubba never once said New Jack would be dead if he hadn't encouraged him to start jumping off balconies. What he said was New Jack would be dead if the Dudley's hadn't starting laying down on the tables and taking some of the impact off of New Jack. Bubba goes on to say that they never missed a mark and was always on top of the tables when New Jack dove off those balconies. So that is some strong logic, as wrestlers are hurt worse when there is nothing there to take some of the impact away. Your misinterpretation of what was said is illogical though, but it was never said in the video so it doesn't matter.

      The problem with Public Enemy was that they figured that they were bigger stars than they really were cause of their past success in ECW and to a lesser extent WCW and thought that they could dictate what they would or would not do and in a place like WWF/E where McMahon is the 1 saying this is what the outcome will be and they decide to go into business for themselves ,Well let's just say by the video of the match as proof NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!! also what they did in ECW was bad business as well cause imagine the angle with PE and The Dudleys that could have been done had they played along .Instant Money and 1 hell of an angle but they didn't want to play along so they were shot on for lack of a better term and were handed their asses . Too bad cause that's 1 angle I think would have been worth seeing from a hardcore fan's perspective .

      I was personal friends with Ted Petty. Lesser of an extent Johnny. Back in 1995 I saw Teddy almost every day. Great Guy. I remember when they were negotiating with WWF and WCW. I actually saw his offer from WWF in 1995. they offering him less money than WCW but a better commission on merchandise.
      We were all happy when they were going to be hired from either company. However, In the back of my head I knew they would not be given the same amount of freedom ECW did. They would not give as much TV coverage. There was no way WCW would let them have barbed wire matches or jump through balconies like in ECW. Back then it was cartoonish with the dungeon of doom vs. Hulk Hogan and friends. WWF was about a year or 2 away from the attitude era. In 1999 when they did go to WWF, it was the height of the attitude era and they were doing crazy spots. 2 people in the company Pat Patterson and Bruce Pritchard were really big pricks to them. they treated them like crap over signing with WCW 3 years before.

    The Dudley's did great matches in their career. No complaints from a technical standpoint. They could take bumps that a regular human being would never. With that said, nobody in the wrestling world was scared of Dudley Boyz. They can't fight and you can see their body language change when they switch from a Public Enemy topic to New Jack. Vince steals gimmicks from other wrestling promotions all the time. It's obvious he made Dudley's copy the Gangstas imagery. Wanna earn that WWE paycheck you do exactly what Vince tells you. • @DonDeLem
      @DonDeLem 2 роки тому +1

      Personally I have no problem with either events, but it makes more sense that The Dudleys get a pass because Public Enemy decided to no sell their Finisher. No selling is considered disrespectful because it makes the person(s) initiating the move seem weak.
      As for The Acolytes, they started beating up Public Enemy just because the latter didn't wanna finish their match with a table spot. Seems kinda childish to me that you'd completely demolish someone just because they wanted to change the finish. I know PE already had backstage heat prior to that event, but I don't recall JBL or Farooq citing that as the reason for their beatdown.

    • @MarcoStrange
      @MarcoStrange 2 роки тому +1

      @@DonDeLem Actually, JBL did talk about this in his Talk is Jericho episode. According to him, Public Enemy waited til right before the match to say they didn't want to do the spot and that they'd called the finish in the ring. That does come off as cocky and can rub someone the wrong way. Especially when you remember The Acolytes were an established team in WWE, and Public Enemy had made their name in ECW and had a brief run in WCW. To me, it comes off as them saying, you're not good enough to do that to us, so we're changing it.
      My other problem is if this is true, they waited till right before the match. I can understand wanting to go up and tell Vince, "what if we did this instead," but not even Austin would have waited right before a match to say he disliked the finish, and he could have gotten away with it considering he was the face of the WWE at the time. Hell, I'm not even sure if Michaels would have waited till right before a match, and that's saying a lot considering how much of an asshole he was based on stories we've heard about him being unprofessional. Either way, Public Enemy wasn't at the level to do this, so I can understand JBL and Farooq saying, "if they don't want to go through a table, we'll make them go through one instead."

    • @DonDeLem
      @DonDeLem 2 роки тому +1

      @@MarcoStrange - Honestly I didn't think changing the finish right before the match warranted a whole ass beating, and they didn't say they wanted to change who wins the match. I'm not a wrestler tho, so idk if they intended to be disrespectful or if it's just an action that's considered disrespectful in the world of wrestling.
      It's good they got their beating because of the prior backstage heat tho.

    • @MarcoStrange
      @MarcoStrange 2 роки тому

      @@DonDeLem hearing the stories about Public Enemy, it does sound like they didn't care if they were disrespectful or not. I mean this is a video about the Dudley's talking about how they no sold their finisher, which is the most disrespectful thing you could do in a match.
      Also, it's still them saying "we'll call it in the ring." Whether or not they would have did a job is inmaterial considering it's two rookies (in terms of being new to WWE) telling the veterans, that they're going to decide what happens. If they had said that to Undertaker for example, wouldn't you expect him to kick their ass?

    To add to my previous comment it was a case that Public Enemy thought that they could call their own shots and dictate what they wanted to do or not and in places like WWE you can't do that cause it will cost you your job like it did for them .In ECW don't really know much other than they refused to stay down after The Dudleys did 3D on Johnny Grunge and he got up and Dudleys went back and beat the crap out of him .Respect the fact that Dudleys give somewhat respect to New Jack and admit that they were helping the situation to where nobody got hurt and helped him whether New Jack will say the same is unlikely but sounds to me that Dudleys are pretty much over that scenario and are pretty much whatever on that subject . Like I also stated in my last comment as to who was more successful and this is by no means a knock against anybody .Let me put it this way . New Jack carved out his legacy his way and The Dudleys/Team 3D did that as well and that's all it boils down to .
