    I don't think that's a retcon about Lucas. Specially after the Chris DLC. It's just a father who loves his son and don't like to think about him as the psychopath that he is.

    • @chillbro1010
      @chillbro1010 6 років тому +90

      Yeah, saying this is a retcon is like saying that "learning who the killer was in a detective tv show is a retcon." Its obvious the Father thought that lucas was just infected like he himself was but in fact lucas had (iirc) drugs from umbrella or some other corporation to keep him out of evalyns control.
      Its like a street thug getting training as a boxer, lucas got to keep being a violent psychopath while pretending it was Evalyn controlling him. The father had no real choice in doing the things he did, while lucas had the choice and was a psycho from the start.

    It wasn't a retcon, it was just Jack's opinion. Parents always have a rosier view of their offspring. Nobody in the family was really able to come to grips with how disturbed Lucas was.

      My comment was meant as an addition to Mike Salucci's, not as a replacement* sorry if I confused you.
      Lucas was taking drugs from a 3rd party corporation to stay "sane" aka out of evalyns control. Everything lucas does after evalyn comes, chopping people up, cannibalism, turning people into zombies, murdering people with traps... Everything that the Baker father saw Lucas do (after the infection), the father assumed it was evalyn making him do it but lucas was 100% in control and did all of that on his own accord.

    George I love ya but what’s not to get with the Lucas line in the goo zone? Jack isn’t going to look sympathetic by saying “Me and marguerite ain’t killers but our boy is” - heck you can see Zoey pushing his hand out of the way and wandering off cause she knows Jack is bullshiting and lying to himself about Lucas in the goo zone. It’s a consistent bit of writing.

    • @Bukkarooo
      @Bukkarooo 6 років тому +161

      Not to mention, in the DLC, it goes into how he basically sold out his family to get a pseudo-antidote so he could be infected but not controlled, and keep an eye on his family/Eveline and send the information to The Connections. So it's not really retconned at all, I think Jack just doesn't want to think his boy is such an awful person, even though Zoey knows better.

      The other part that none of you notice - is the line "not even Zoe here". Then she pushes his hand away, gets up and wanders off angrily.
      The entire time, he's played favorites with his children. He turns a blind eye to Lucas, and what he's done. He also blames Zoe for some of those things needlessly.

      Saint_Somnia meanwhile Zoey does know somethings wrong with Lucas. He used to watch her in the shower according to some of the little extra facts you can find in the DLCs if I remember correctly.
      Although what is total bullshit is the fact that they expect us to believe Lucas got away with literal murder by simply locking someone in the attic of his house which was presently occupied by 3 other people who would hear a cry for help and this was long before "grandma" showed up. There's even still a lot of evidence up there and Lucas wrote down his confession in a place where it wasn't hard to find.

    I'm surprised you have no words for the End of Zoe DLC.

    • @royalrainboo6940
      @royalrainboo6940 6 років тому +12

      The "Chems" is the Chem Fluid item from RE7 which is used in a variety of items in the game, in the case of End of Zoe DLC you mix Chem Fluid with a Tree Branch to make a Stake Bomb but the Chem Fluid can also be mixed with random critters you find along the way to make medicine capable of reattaching limbs in less than a minute.
      Plus you find Chem Fluid and branches inside boxes on a swamp.
      But I appreciate the explanation, at least I learned something

    • @chillbro1010
      @chillbro1010 6 років тому +8

      I just mean, other than the simplistic crafting, the bombs were the most understandable part. Buy yes, the regrowing limbs and stuff just because you rubbed a plant on it, even in bioweapon terrorist world, would be insane.
      I remember someone talking about how stimpacks from fallout would eat about 10 pounds of fat and dehydrate you as defecated and burped constantly and also burn you alive the the heat of this energy transfer to build the scar tissue, all of a simple bullet wound. I couldn't imagine the mathematics for reattaching a working arm...

      The father didnt see lucas's problems as a child, and when things started fucking up the "real" father assumed lucas was just taken over as well... But lucas was never taken over, he was (iirc) given drugs or treatment or something by umbrella to prevent his mind from being taken over.
      In the end, lucas was just a very highly intelligent person with violent fantasies and no empathy/sympathy or remorse for his actions.

    All the plot points you didn't get about the Grandma and the morgue/molded are explained in the game George.
    They explain that Evelyn was experimented on and those experiments made her age rapidly. So 4 years was more like 70 for her. But she's also able to project hallucinations. Which is why Mia's freaking out when she gains sanity for a moment saying "She's in my head".
    Evelyn projects herself as a little girl. Technically, age-wise, she still is even if rapid aging makes her much older.
    The bodies in the morgue are the people that they tried to make like the Bakers. Not everybody turns into psycho mutant people is the point.
    Lucas was working with Umbrella or some other corrupt organization to get Evelyn to the Baker estate and report the stuff she was doing.
    The whole E-series thing is that Evelyn is the E-Series that you learn about. I think they flat out explain that in the cave area where you get the serum to destroy her.

    • @jeromyperez5532
      @jeromyperez5532 6 років тому +112

      And the Lucas always was psycho. He killed his friend at his Birthday party. The rest of the Bakers were chill though.
      And Evelyn showing up in the VHS tapes could also be another hallucination that's affecting Ethan while he's watching the tapes.

    "A mashup of Japanese writers writing both what they do and do not intimately understand." That line gave me flashbacks to listening to one of Sigint's radio calls in MGS3 that briefly touches on racism in America during the period the game is set in. I had a moment where I was fully cognizant of the fact I was listening to a conversation about American race relations translated by a Japanese writer's understanding of the topic and then translated _back_ to an American audience via the adaptational scriptwriters and actors and boy, was that a surreal feeling.

      Michał Gorgoń
      I was pretty sure it's more commonly spelled 'judgment' outside of the U.S. as well so I looked it up.
      From dictionary dot com:
      'Many think that the difference between judgement and judgment is that the longer version is the British spelling, whereas the shorter one is the US convention. While some claim that Noah Webster first recorded the spelling of judgment in his 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language, both sides of the pond have actually used the spelling judgment since the late 1600s.
      Though judgement (with an e) has risen and fallen in popularity in British English, judgment remains the preferred spelling in British legal proceedings and appears more frequently in written work. Today, judgement is an accepted spelling in British English. But, if you stick to judgment, you won’t be judged in the UK or the US.'

    They're called parishes because Louisiana was French before it became part of America, and they were Roman Catholic. It's also why most states set out in squares, but Louisiana has slivers of land that give as many as possible land owners with access to rivers. Most states used the township system under the PLSS, but LA used arpents because the land was allocated by the French before it was purchased by the US.

I've always been fascinated by abandoned factories and Industrial complexes, and I can say from my own personal experience of having worked in multiple factories that there's no reason they couldn't make for an incredibly effective game setting. The only game in recent memory that really GOT how to make that sort of setting work was Dishonored.

    i love your videos george, but this one was just bad. you question stuff explained in the game, judgment is spelled fine, and whats with the weird attitude towards camp? of course re7 was gonna be campy as heck, that's what resident evil has been good at since the beginning. this video just felt condescending, like you were reaching for things to criticize. some of it was funny, yeah, but this was kind of disappointing.

      +Just Bony Half the video is misinformed, either about the game or the English language. (American English in the "judgment" case, but still English.) It's fine for him to have misinformed thoughts, but it makes it an awful video, especially when he is criticizing the things he's misinformed on.

    12:37 I remember a friend telling me that in that case MAYBE she is not in the VHS but she is still on your mind, so because you are focus on the tape and not your surroundings she keeps trying to appear in front of you, resulting in she being inside of the tape doing whatever... I would guess is similar to when we try to remember an old movie/show and we thought an actor was in one scene or some dialog was different.

    Side note: I think the combat in this game could NOT have been implemented better. Getting stun locked by the boomers in the final regular enemy encounter on madhouse difficulty was the only real time I found myself getting old-school mad at a game these last two generations, but the run n' gun encounter just before that and the long range shooting before the mine descent were some of the most fun instances of game mastery I've had since destroying the Watchdog of the Old Lords chalice boss in Bloodborne. And calling it a "beautiful mess" is criminal under-evaluation of this game's level of refinement and quality. Every segment of this game, aside from maybe the final boss battle, was expertly paced with fun moment to moment gameplay.

    I still chuckle whenever I see a chainsaw used as a weapon in a game. They're hard enough to keep working on trees, which usually don't even fight back. God help you if you try to refuel it from that old gasoline can you found, not to mention without any engine oil mix.

    And that's ok I guess, people are making some valid points. Idk, it's interesting to see that loads of his points are just... Incorrect
    They're all mistakes that could've been fixed with some googling, but to be fair maybe that's the point? I don't think George would've wanted to look stuff up for this video. I guess I can appreciate him staying true to his genuine thoughts by not doing any research?
    Idk. I guess the point is that he just didn't take this video too seriously, and the quality of it suffers because of that, but that's ok because it's a video meant for his straight-up thoughts.. but maybe it would've been good to make that more obvious

    I noticed a big Evil Dead reference most people don’t notice. In the beginning, Mia seems normal, then acts like a possessed version of herself. The 2013 remake of Evil Dead has the character named Mia, ironically enough they both look extremely similar to one another. She is turned into a deadite first in the film, and is eventually saved. I just thought it was an interesting hidden Easter egg.

    They never retconned that Lucas was a killer. Jack was just unaware of it. But notice that only Jack and Zoe appear in that strange hallucinatory scene, which is implied to be a communication between the still-living infected--the player character, who was infected and is in the early stages; Zoe, who was infected but still resists; Jack, who is NOT YET QUITE DEAD... but not Marguerite, who did not survive her fight with Ethan... and not Lucas, who was cured of the mold's influence by the mystery corporation that created it so he could be their observer. Hmmmm?
