They worked together on Maude and the producers asked Rue if she could convince Bea to do The Golden Girls.
Also, Bea didn’t hate Betty.
She would get annoyed because Betty was always so happy, open, and positive while Bea lived more privately on the darker side of life.
Even Bea talked about this in an interview. When asked about this subject, Bea said “that’s a load of crap. You couldn’t have the great comedic timing we had if we didn’t get along”.
I'm not sure about that. In one interview Bea said she loved Rue but was glad to leave the GG because of looking at that c***s Betty Whites face.

Michele Nunyabiz Thanku. That bothered me. Rue had her name pronounced wrong when she won her EMMY AWARD!! So that bothered her ever since! I don't blame her. This show got ALMOST ALL their info wrong or backwards. It's a bad joke. Disrespectful to these 4 awesome women.

Bea was quoted to "absolutely adore" Rue! I heard the recording myself! It was Betty she "wasn't very fond of", and those are Betty's words. Also, don't say Rue did a bad impression of Bea as to be rude. No, she was portraying Bea exactly as her voice sounded. So what.
It wasn’t that Estelle had stage fright. Estelle in the final seasons of the Golden Girls as well as through the entirety of Golden Palace, began to struggle with Dementia. Rue and other cast members talked about how she began to a struggle to remember her lines and act correctly in the scenes. Another thing, Bea did love the show. She was extremely proud of it and she found the writing so funny and brilliant. There have been so many interviews where she continuously complimented the writers on their beautiful scripts.
Estelle hated death scenes
Estelle Getty did not suffer from stage fright - she was in fact a very accomplished stage performer. Read her history as to what she did before Golden Girls.

Oh dear - judging from all the comments I don't think this video went over very well! I have very good friends whom I find VERY ANNOYING at times, but I still care about them very much. I don't hate them. Dorothy's last appearance - her exit from the show - those tears were REAL. And I'm sure the script reflected how she truly felt. I have no doubt about that!

This video is crap. The only true part was that Estelle had severe stage fright as she herself has confirmed this in her 2000 intimate portrait interview. Bea had a bit of a loner personality but she was a friendly woman who just didn't like nonsense and took her work seriously (and it paid off). Bea didn't hate Betty. She just didn't like when Betty would fool around with the audience off script. There are several interviews of the two of them holding hands and smiling at each other constantly during interviews. These aren’t exactly “dark secrets.” Almost all of these points are taken from an interview with Rue Mc-CLAN-a-han did, although none were supposed to be “dark secrets” 🙄
While the ladies each had different personalities and likes/dislikes, it was very apparent from their performances that they were friends and enjoyed working together. Have you seen some of the blooper reels where they were joking and cutting up? People who dislike one another don't act like that.
All these actresses were brilliant in the sitcom and we will forever be grateful! Screw these "secrets"

I knew Bea Arthur hated people chewing gum, I think she had misophonia, a sensitivity to certain noises, which I have.
Bea and Rue weren't bosom buddies but they were friends, but it was Bea and Betty with the major issue. Rumour has it Bea had the hots for Betty and she repeatedly rejected her. Bea had issues and problems in real life preferring to be alone quite a bit.
I thought the Dorothy bashing was awful actually, she was tall yes but she's a very striking, unusual looking woman. Like a goddess. That type of woman would get put down looks wise by mere mortals.

The one thing that I hope isn’t being entirely understood is that Estelle Getty was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewey Body Dementia. This condition is progressively degenerative and, while it might not have been entirely understood by all the involved parties at the time, the “stage fright” may have, in and of itself, been an effect of the disease which slowly took away the pieces of her mind and body that made her the woman she was. But I’m also speaking as a nurse and as a family member who watched his grandfather die in pieces every single day for 8 years.

Rue mentioned Bea was annoyed when Rue won the Emmy the 2nd season. Bea was also pissed when Betty won for Season 1. That’s because Bea submitted the weak pilot episode.
Although you are correct that Rue mentioned several times that Bea was distant towards her on Golden Girls how could you skip over the fact that Bea couldn't stand Betty.

It is sad and really a shame to post this online. The Golden Girls was such an amazing sitcom , with amazing actresses. They were so open and touched subject that were still tabou in the 80’s and beginning of the 90’s.
Every time I see these kinda post online , it makes me sad that we are in the era of so much knowledge and advance technologies and instead of using them for the better we use it to trash the life of amazing personality that brought good on our home every week for 7 consecutive years.

To be honest it’s mainly Bea-bashing and more rubbish about Bea Arthur, which is probably untrue.
I found out that Blanche's character was one thing but her health in real life was Bad! Her heart!! She was a Smoker! And had triple bypass heart surgery!! Not good! And the most healthiest one of them all was and still is Rose! Betty!- still alive at 95! She outlived them all!! For Some Reason!! She must have a strong heart!!

Can we all get some perspective here. It's public knowledge that Bea Arthur and Betty White were always great friends. Apparently the same could be said between Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan. But people making videos like this and the general public weren't present on set, behind the scenes or with the actresses anywhere. No one knows the full extent of anything between them, whichever way anything went. The media also has a habit of blowing things up as well.

I don't think you are correct about Bea and Rue. Bea did not like Betty and that was no secret. I like all four women and watching the reruns is comfort food for me as they were all such great comedic actresses and the scripts were terrific. No comedies being made for TV today come even close to this show. The only shows comedy shows worth watching for after the Golden Girls were: Mom, Friends, Will & Grace, Frasier and The Big Bang Theory.

Beatrice Arthur wasn’t ugly she look pretty good for her age and yes they did bash her character calling her ugly in every single person. It’s was crazy and its was the reason why the show ended.
It wasn't a guilty pleasure for me, but they screwed themselves out of at least 2 more season if writers weren't so brutal with the Dorothy character. That would have weighed on anyone.
