GTA III is a definite classic and one that’s worth going back to every so often. Great video man, keep up the great work and have a great day. Take care!
I understand that the checkpoint system was mainly just part of the framework for developing all 3 of the remasters, but to only use it in like the last mission of 3 in particular felt a little disappointing. It was pretty nice in San Andreas too

Silent protagonists are a tricky thing with games, because you have to know that this is what you want to do with it, as it’s not like you can change the artistic direction of a game’s protagonist midway through production then hire/fire someone so pivotal. And that decision will effect everything about how a player interacts with this world as it will change whether they’re seeing it through their eyes or the character’s. If the MC doesn’t speak, then the player will be absorbing a lot more about the people around them instead of any potential journey or arc their character could be on. Some do try to do both, like Fable which gives a traumatic backstory for why the Hero doesn’t speak while still having a compelling story and arc, but this is hard to pull off as you need to give the player enough reason to care about a person they’ve never heard express a single thought or emotion instead of viewing them merely as a mirror through which they’re playing in the world and imagining what they’d say in those situations instead of what the character should say. Does Claude succeed? Idk, I didn’t play III. 😂 But it’s definitely an interesting angle to consider nevertheless as committing to that decision shows so much about the artistic process of the devs, what they thought about this story and what they want you to be feeling about it too.
Even though it wasn’t trying or intending to be, I think you can see in this the blueprint for what the GTA series would be about in this game - a wide open world allowing as much player choice and agency as possible within a recognisably realistic city, fun and engaging gameplay, a wide variety of cars you want to drive and a story exploring/satirising contemporary American culture through the eyes of a member of its criminal underworld. In many ways, GTA V is unrecognisable from the game released twelve years prior but it also undeniably shares many similarities and appeals which show why the GTA franchise has remained such a mainstay of gaming for over two decades now. Especially taking into account that this game was a de facto reboot of the series in a new dimension- quite literally- what this game succeeds in makes it worth revisiting whether you have personal nostalgia for it or no in spite of its technical limitations or other shortcomings.
maybe they fixed it. but i thought the updated graphics were supposed to be trash...i havent played this game in almost 20years and it looks way better then i remember it

I understand going with the Defective Edition cause of the trouble with emulation. However I IMPLORE you to give the original release a go. GTA III has an atmosphere unlike no other. Dark, foggy, dirty, and gloomy. At times closer to a horror game rather than an open world action game. And with radio stations like MSX FM, K-Jah, and Rise FM really tie it all together. The defective edition is far too shiny and clean...
Imagine Claude's voice was high pitched that's why he doesn't want to speak at all because then no mob boss or gang member would take him seriously 😂😂😂
Back then Silence Protagonist was still something that could help with the data size and was still "Acceptable" but this trope of gaming must end. The idea that you can put yourself into the character because he doesn't talk in highly cinematic games is completely stupid. Do you need a main character in a movie to not speak so that everyone can feel like they are the protagonist? Today, a silent protagonist makes the game feel old from another era. It's literally my biggest grip with Baldur's gate 3, that they didn't voice record your character sentence... yet in this game i can accept it cause the character still speak even if you don't hear what he said, it would have made the cinematique even longer hearing yourself repeat what sentence you took. But in a fully cinematic game without any multiple choice conversation, it feel half bake. But what if feel should be sent to hell is game that does half and half. Having fully voice cinematic and then switching to text reading conversation (I'm looking at you 90% of the Japanese made game). This kind of stuff felt so bad in Breath of the wild. Link was always a silent hero... but in the last two game, in cinematic, everyone talks yet Link still only nod 100%. He never felt so bad before cause everything was in text. I don't mind text game, but if you go for voice acting, you should go full on voice acting, not haft and haft.
