Some of my favorite B sides are in their Japanese discography (and some of their best title tracks, like Mr. Taxi and Bad Girl). There is a lot to say about Jessica and the parting with SNSD, but for now I will only say that Jessica had a unique vocal sound that they never quite replaced, which does not take anything away from the great vocals of 8 member SNSD.
I discovered SNSD in 2019 (via Tiffany in Sisters' Slam Dunk actually). I embarked on my subsequent SNSD discovery in strictly chronological order beginning with 'Girls Go To School' and then their various promotional efforts in interviews and "viewable radio" before finally getting to their MVs, music show and concert performances. Therefore I was never as invested in OT9 the way 'original' SONE's are, so I never experienced the shock of Jessica's departure as they did/have. The members' voices are so distinct, I can easily hear when Jessica's voice is present or absent, but it doesn't bother me...perhaps because SNSD has such a range and depth of solid and exceptional vocals, and have performed re-arrangements of hits due to various absences that occurred even while they were 9, that I don't dwell on the absences...they still sound effing great and the variations are part of their skill-set. As 9 or 8, they will always be SNSD to me.
I wish Goodbye or Back Hug was included or Karma Butterfly but it's fine.. almost all of their Bsides are good.. BTW, Thank you so much for reacting to this group. Same as the others, these ladies dragged me into the Kpop world .

Older kpop albums had quite a bit of processing and they can sound outdated now. I do have a soft spot for their ballads and pop-rock numbers from that era but their recent albums are most listenable overall. Taeyeon solo has the best discography in kpop imho. Everyone must hear at least the trio of her studio albums in their deluxe/repackaged versions and then I don’t know how one can resist checking her minis after that.

Yay! All my recommendations made it (and of course others recommended the same songs I did. I got lucky😅)! I just had a dance party in my living room!! I knew there would be lots of amazing bside recommendations, so I tried to go with some that were more obscure like "Wake Up", which I don't know if you caught the lyrics but it's a pretty serious song about realizing you were in an extremely abusive and toxic relationship. Not a common theme to address back in the day. I am surprised no one recommended "Bump It," but honestly, that should only be heard via the Phantasia concert performance with the canes lol Also I believe the earliest release here was 2009 and the last two songs here were just from last year. It's amazing how they've grown and fifteen years later are still growing. In particular, it must be acknowledged how far the dance line has come vocally.

Destiny is an overlooked b-side, supposedly performed only once live. It was on the Gee EP, and not sure how, but I some how missed listening to this song, until about 1-2 years after I started listening to SNSD. It's so different from the rest of the EP, especially considering Gee. It's an EDM/Dance track, and I was blown away by it, still one of my favorite songs by them. I'm almost convinced that some sort of legal issue happened, because it is on the EP, but basically never mentioned, and pretty much never performed, other than the one rumored time. If it was a ho-hum song, I would understand, but it is a REALLY good song, so I don't understand why it has gotten so little attention. If any other song sort of resembles it, it would be Express 999, so if you liked it, most likely you will like/love Destiny. Mystery surrounds this song..
Getting into Snsd in 2023 is the Kpop equivalent of discovering Britney Spears in 2023 but dont worry lol it's gonna be an exciting and thrilling journey, thank you for your reviews and reaction. Girls' Generation have so many different genre's and nothing sounds repetitive. Most music critics have called them the textbook of ggs. They were literally the turning point for ggs in Asia thats why many groups are inspired by them. They make every concept they do become so popular in Kpop that there is literally no group that has not tried their concepts now lol.

You know when I first got into Kpop a few years ago and started listening to some playlist on spotify the 2 songs I liked the most were "Into You" by Yuri and "Blue" by Taeyeon. Tiffany also a soloist but now she also going into acting. Yoona focus as actress while Yuri also as actress but also as an entertainer in some variety shows and as solo singer. Sooyoung also as actress. Hyoyeon doing solo singer also as a DJ. Sunny enjoy most of her time at her home but she also works on variety show and radio. Older kpop albums had quite a bit of processing and they can sound outdated now. I do have a soft spot for their ballads and pop-rock numbers from that era but their recent albums are most listenable overall. Taeyeon solo has the best discography in kpop imho. Everyone must hear at least the trio of her studio albums in their deluxe/repackaged versions and then I don’t know how one can resist checking her minis after that.

I knew there would be lots of amazing bside recommendations, so I tried to go with some that were more obscure like "Wake Up", which I don't know if you caught the lyrics but it's a pretty serious song about realizing you were in an extremely abusive and toxic relationship. Not a common theme to address back in the day.
I am surprised no one recommended "Bump It," but honestly, that should only be heard via the Phantasia concert performance with the canes lol
Also I believe the earliest release here was 2009 and the last two songs here were just from last year. It's amazing how they've grown and fifteen years later are still growing. In particular, it must be acknowledged how far the dance line has come vocally.

Destiny is an overlooked b-side, supposedly performed only once live. It was on the Gee EP, and not sure how, but I some how missed listening to this song, until about 1-2 years after I started listening to SNSD. It's so different from the rest of the EP, especially considering Gee. It's an EDM/Dance track, and I was blown away by it, still one of my favorite songs by them. I'm almost convinced that some sort of legal issue happened, because it is on the EP, but basically never mentioned, and pretty much never performed, other than the one rumored time. If it was a ho-hum song, I would understand, but it is a REALLY good song, so I don't understand why it has gotten so little attention. If any other song sort of resembles it, it would be Express 999, so if you liked it, most likely you will like/love Destiny. Mystery surrounds this song..

Getting into Snsd in 2023 is the Kpop equivalent of discovering Britney Spears in 2023 but dont worry lol it's gonna be an exciting and thrilling journey, thank you for your reviews and reaction. Girls' Generation have so many different genre's and nothing sounds repetitive. Most music critics have called them the textbook of ggs. They were literally the turning point for ggs in Asia thats why many groups are inspired by them. They make every concept they do become so popular in Kpop that there is literally no group that has not tried their concepts now lol.

You know when I first got into Kpop a few years ago and started listening to some playlist on spotify the 2 songs I liked the most were "Into You" by Yuri and "Blue" by Taeyeon. But at the time I had no idea who Girls Generation was until I started to get into girl groups more and more and all the idols always talked about their role models being GG. I eventually disocovered more of Taeyeons solo stuff, and 100% get why she is called KING TAEYEON.. and why EVERYBODY in Kpop is so obsessed with her.
But looking back at some of their songs now with you, its fun seeing her vocal evolution.
