This song is quite a common good of all western church based on the sequence « Victimae paschalis laudes » , that used to be sung as obligatory sequence the easter week according to Missale romanum in roman catholic church , so even if today it is only obligatory for Easter sunday it is still a hymn that should be quite present in any catholic culture 😅. And as it was one of those „base line“ chorales that had been translated into German much earlier than by Luther - but he cherished it much, so it was kept also in protestant churches, which is quite understandable to me, as it brings along the Christian core message. At least in my region, it also used to be oftenly sung at burials right on the grave as a sign of hope and faith

“Von der Marter alle” does not translate to “martyrdom”. “Marter” is an outdated word representing pain & suffering, a “martyr” would be “Märtyrer”. It’s describing how Jesus rose despite taking on all the worlds pain by himself.
