  • My dad asked me if I would Drain Weasel his DreamStation so he can use it as a backup. And... well, it didn't go as planned.
    If you're not familiar with the Drain Weasel method of de-foaming the DS1, I learned about it from Howard Morland's UA-cam channel, so be sure to give him a visit and all due credit:

    If you want to try Drain Weaseling your own DreamStation, you can find the product on Amazon: amzn.to/3oTguwo

      Hey! I just had my first real attempt at a repair surgery-specially the LIFT procedure-after seven or eight surgeries this year just to keep me ticking (I lost count, honestly.)
      The goal is to have me sitting again by Thanksgiving, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to making videos again soon! ❤️

    The foam degraded, as reported in the global recall. Was ozone used on the machine, such as SoClean? Best of luck.

      Take things slow. Slowest drill speed and highest torque setting, if your drill has the latter. You got this!

      @AdventureswithCPAP  2 роки тому

      PS: when I walked Nicko through this on our back channel, he mentioned that his drill doesn’t have torque control, but he still made it work by using the slow speed and going light on the trigger.

      Hey there! I'm in the planning stages of my comeback! Just trying to catch up on a big backlog of work caused by my most recent surgeries (11 total between 2021 and 2022).
      As soon as I can sit more comfortably and catch up on work a little, I've already got one video ready to shoot and edit!

    I have the System One and I just took the foam all out and left it empty. The foam on mine covered the entire lower level, so also functioned as an air flow control. I think my air comes out a bit stronger now and need to explore my settings.

    I just had a warning screen say that there’s something blocking the air inlet. I checked the filter and noticed this black powder soot covering the filter. It happened earlier. I’m in Southeast Asia and not sure how to fix this. I use bipap with high pressures. 16/24. I’m not sure what to do. Not even sure how to sleep tonight. Maybe I’ll sleep on my side. I can’t sleep without the bipap. It really assists me with breathing. I may have to order a cheaper new one. I’m wondering if there’s a way to clean it out so no particles get ingested. I don’t know

    You are gonna need to drill a couple of holes to get all the sludge out. Some people do holes inside the inner motor side of the dougnut and leave them unsealed. I preferred to maintain the original design's airflow path (despite some saying it doesn't matter since the inner chamber is sealed once the motor is reinstalled) and I did 2 holes on the top surface and patched them with tupperware "Bandaids" secured with hot melt glue (despite some claiming that hot melt glue is toxic as well) I can attest that the unit will be more turbulent/windy sounding by I'd guess...10 percent or so. It's not "nothing" but is a small price to pay in noise for the safety and comfort of not ingesting that foam sludge nightly.

    • @AdventureswithCPAP
      @AdventureswithCPAP  2 роки тому

      After this video was posted, I managed to get the sludge out with some pipe cleaners, an overnight soak in vinegar, and some pressurized water. Had I known how much effort it was going to take, I would have just ordered the empty motor housing from Amazon.

      Eleven brutal surgeries in the course of a year. It was rough, and recovery time from my last surgery was stated to me as "14 to 18 months." I'm starting to be able to sit comfortably for extended periods of time, so I'm hoping to get back to it soon!

    Doesn’t your dad have insurance to pay for replacements? The government should be sending him replacement equipment at no cost..

    • @AdventureswithCPAP
      @AdventureswithCPAP  2 роки тому

      He has Medicare and was given a replacement AirSense 10 in July. As I said in the video, he simply wants to have a defoamed DreamStation in the closet in case his AirSense 10 breaks and needs to be repaired.
      Meanwhile, BlueCross BlueShield refused to replace my recalled DreamStation, so I had to buy a broken AirSense 10 and refurbish/repair it myself.
      Having insurance is no guarantee of getting coverage.

      Hey Justin!
      So sorry for the extended absence. It's been a rough few months. I've had, I think, three emergency surgeries since uploading this one, and I've also had to endure two awful chemical cauterizations. I'm working with a CRS and an IBD specialist from Johns Hopkins, and the former seems to think that I'm showing all the signs of Crohn's disease, whereas the latter says I don't meet the symptomatic threshold for a diagnosis.
      The best current working hypothesis is that the years of damage done to my body as a result of chronic systemic inflammation are catching up with me, despite the fact that the inflammation is now gone, or appears to be gone. It's gonna be a long road from here. Next *scheduled* surgery is in June, but there's no telling if I'll make it that long without needing another emergency procedure or three.
      I nearly bled to death two weeks ago, right around the time you left this comment.
      I'm working on ways of trying to shoot videos standing up, though, if I can find the strength to do it. I have some stuff I really want to dig into! But my body just won't cooperate. :/

      I've already done another successful Drain Weaseling. I know how it works and I know how to do it. And if you'll pay attention, you'll see that I started slow and only sped up when I got frustrated that the foam was just sludge.
      I'm the one who taught Nick from CPAP Reviews this trick, and I stressed to him the importance of going slow. So I know what I'm doing. But there was no way to effectively Drain-Weasel the mess inside my dad's DreamStation.

      How am I defaming anyone? This is straight-up documentation of fact. I successfully de-foamed my months-old DreamStation and my dad asked me to do his year-old one. I videoed the results.
      Defaming is defined as "to harm the reputation of by communicating false statements about." Please point out the false statements in my video.
      Look, Jay, this channel was designed as a place for us to explore together and learn together, and for me to pass along any of the stuff I've learned as a CPAP newbie to help other CPAP newbies. There's a certain level of ignorance that's expected. But if you don't know what you're talking about (and you don't), perhaps be a little less confident in your pronouncements? I'm sorry I'm getting snippy, but for you to storm in here and act like an authority figure when you know less about what's going on than I do rubs me the wrong way.

      @@AdventureswithCPAP sorry about that. Just remember, some of us have been CPAP users much longer than you. I have always used ResMed and glad of it. But other CPAP machines should get credit too, where deserved. The jury is still not out on Foamgate. Jumping to conclusions on whose fault it is, is premature.
