  • First time visiting Fort Stevens State Park campground and it did not disappoint. Our friends Ray and Natalie joined us in campsites 13 and 17, both pull-throughs, in loop M.
Battery Russell and the historical military displays at the visitor center were very cool to visit and the volunteers made it very educational and interesting.
    We will be back again.

When you were in Battery Prat shell room on the right you would have seen a circle in the concrete wall. That circle was where the powder would have been passed from the powder room to the shell room. The powder room door would have been closed to keep anything from getting into the powder room and detonate the racks powder. You will also notice the hole is larger then a 6" powder bag. It was also the escape path incase the door was blocked from the outside.
Outside you will notice the roof is the thickest above the magazine spaces. The area inside the structure was called the "galleries"..
