It's scripted but the pain is real. Chris Benoit is actually a great example because he sustained multiple and severe concussions in his career which made his brain resemble an 85 year old man with Alzheimer's. This made him do things that he wouldn't do. It completely destroyed him.

If Edge and Stone Cold kept wrestling with an injured neck, they would be paralyzed from the neck down. If Daniel Bryan didn't retire, he would've been like Chris Benoit. What happened to Chris Benoit was what would've happened if they didn't take the time to heal or if they had went undiagnosed. Benoit was the worst case scenario. Everything he loved and worked for, was destroyed.
+Deathpool_04 I don't even like the term scripted. It's way better than fake, but scripted is like a movie, wrestling is mostly improvised, just the finish and some spots are predetermined. Predetermined is a better description (but fake is the worst one). And I can fully understand people who don't like wrestling, but I hate those people who say they don't watch it cause it's "not real". I mean, basically everything besides sports is not real in TV. Game of thrones, Superhero movies, ALL MOVIES BASICALLY, ... So why should wrestlin be less entertaining? In fact, MMA for example is pretty lame. I'm a fan myself, but it's mostly just jumping around, here and there hitting, and it's often over after 5 minutes. I mean, what makes this exiting is mostly the fact that it's real, but the fight itself is as a viewer kinda boring. Do they jump from the top? Do they use tables, ladders and so on? Are there more than 1 v 1 matches? Really, it is no hate against MMA, but I just wanna make clear that WWE being fake makes all those thing and moves possible in the first way. If it would be real, nobody would do a backflip or some crazy stuff (because it isn't effective). And saying Wrestlers are pussys is dumb too, Deathpool_04 said it: They go to multiple injuries, risking everything just for our entertainment. An actor barely gets hurt at the set, a wrestler breaks at some point of his career some bones. Or something else, but even if you don't get injured, it's still intense and if you're not as lame as Brock Lesnar or Great Khali, you'll feel the pain the next day.
+LTMG GLPaddl Yeah, predetermined and improvised are good words to describe it or at least just as good as "scripted" but I wouldn't say fake. Entertainment is also a good word to describe it too. MMA is alright but I'm more into what professional wrestling does. I just get more entertained by it more than UFC/MMA or even actual sports.

They are actors as well as athletes. Most of them come from legit sports background. Kurt angle is Olympic gold medalist, Dolph Ziggler has amateur wrestling background, Daniel Bryan, Chris Benoit, Bret Hart, all are technical wrestles. What you call stunts, I, as a wrestling fan call them gymnastics and acrobatics.
And most of them willingly take a huge amount of brain damage. Ziggler is pretty good at avoiding it, others aren't that talented

If we could be honest with ourselves, wrestling is more legit than most scripted things. Like any movie or tv show, wrestling has its predetermined outcomes, but injuries and things behind the scenes can get quite real. They're people too so, things don't always go to plan whether its in the ring or not.

Wrestling is actually one of the most for real products out there. It is scripted and sometimes they don't connect the moves but what keeps it real, is that you can fake being shot or stabbed in a TV shoes through editing. But what you cannot fake is falling off a 20 foot ladder or about 70 thumbtacks in your back.

The way he described it: Bumping hurt like hell. Chair shots hurt like hell. Running into the ropes hurt like hell. Even selling hurt like hell.
The finishes are scripted, the boys cooperate with each other in the ring to tell a story with their bumps and not intentionally seriously hurt each other (unless your name is New Jack...), but all of the bumps still hurt like hell even when you're doing it 100% correctly and "safely."

Nobody EVER says ballet's fake or stuntwork in movies are fake just because it's a fictional, predetermined story. What matters is the skill, presentation, athleticism and entertainment of what we're watching.

I don't know why everyone always has a problem with fake. Majority of people say it cause they know it'll push 90% of wrestling fan's buttons who will then explain in detail why it's scripted, not fake. Which isnt even a much better term, since lots of wrestlers call the match as it goes on.
I dont even get why it's so important to so many fans what others think about wrestling and feel the need to defend and justify it. you don't have to justify what video games, movies, tv shows and sports you like, so why would you here?
It's disrespectful to wrestlers as athletes and doesn't fully account for the actual harm it does to their body for our entertainment. Those rings aren't soft buddy. I know not everyone means it in an offensive way and I don't expect it to be for everyone but I wish people at least had some level of respect for it not only as an art but for the training and athleticism it takes to pull off some of these spots. I'm certainly a fan but specially as someone who's friend is involved in professional wrestling I do feel personally upset when people don't give it it's due. You don't have to take it overly seriously but give the performers their credit.
