Great honest video, I think the problem is the UA-cam gurus make good money if they make a longform video about how to make money with shorts. That's why i respect your channel you show the real behind the scenes.
I have been video creator for a few years and unfortunately I learned everything you said through experience. You are completely right in what you say. I have 1 advice and 1 suggestion. First, make a choice, either share only long videos or share short videos. If it is suitable for you to be successful and earn high income over a long period of time, share long videos. If you want quick success but earning huge income is not important to you, share short videos. But there is also an advantage to sharing short videos. Your channel grows fast, you can become famous fast. It's hard to grow that fast with long videos. I recommend you make the choice from the beginning. And the 'short videos with ai' videos you see on the internet are nonsense. Only a lucky few channels succeeded, but they had tried at least 10-20 different channels, only 1 channel was successful. Trust this video.
Another observation: UA-cam algorithm understands 'ai sounds and content' and doesn't really support it. You may have short successes at first, but then it all goes away.
Absolutely true Bro. Because when I started youtube shorts and one of videos got 100 views nearly in 1 month. I thought they also watch long form content, but I was wrong. And I can't believe that youtube algo is dumb enough to believe that when short content subscribers don't view long form content, the content in channel sucks and it did not recommend anything to new users. Thanks for major tip bro. Appreciate it
This is my problem with my channel. Grew my channel from shorts, but have always aimed to focus on long form content. 100k subs yet my long form videos barely scratch 1k. I know it’s a journey, but now I know to refocus on the long form. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I have my own long form channel that has just recently become monetised. I was contemplating doing shorts to build the audience but had those concerns regarding the actual audience it was targeting. With limited time to spend on the channel I'm so glad I watched this before sinking hours into making shorts
When I made my reaction channel I made sure to mainly stick to long form content. I was aware that the UA-cam algorithm would mess up if I were to do both shorts and long form at once. Now after 2 months of long form content I am posting the clips into my shorts and they are generating okay enough views. It still depends on your niche but Start off with long form, then switch to shorts..
I will UA-cam some credit and mention that shorts lately have now allowed for shorts to be linked directly to any related video of yours which includes your long form videos. But I’m going to be honest to say I have both long form and short form vids on my channel and the results are always inconsistent. I’m debating making less shorts per month and stick to more long form videos. Ah well
I’m just about to start a Shorts channel and I was wondering to upload long form content as well, a bunch of thanks for sharing literally the most useful and legit info here. The video is really educational. Thanks for saving me ❤
This is something truly precious. I had to quit my youtube channel and start a new channel because I was posting short videos and long videos. Hope this video will help more people ❤❤❤
@@DIGITALINCOMEPROJECT I decided to create 2 channels, one for short videos and one for long videos. My new short video channel is this account and it operates quite well, while the long video channel is not yet recommended by UA-cam to viewers. Hopefully everything will be running smoothly in the next few weeks .
2 week DEEP into my UA-cam journey! thank you for the heads up as I was doing a bit of both on my channel may pick and choose at this point! thanks again!
I’m proof he’s right. I get over 12 million views per month easy with shorts, sometimes 20 million. But my long form is useless. Maybe it’s simply not good enough which is totally possible, I’m not great at this stuff but I’ve seen a lot worse videos getting more views without having shorts on their channels. I’ve decided to abandon long form and going to start going after sponsors with shorts, affiliate marketing and reviews in short form as well as continuing my everyday stuff.
I have a shorts only channel too and it's growing consistently. I've thought about incorporating affiliate marketing. How are you planning on doing that? I believe YT is planning to roll this feature out soon though
@@sanon2480 I simply promote something from Amazon. I have tons of options, dog items are endless so it’s relatively easy for me. I’m also an Amazon influencer so I’ll direct people to the Amazon link in my bio where they will find the product in the video.
You have to keep long form content and shorts content separate. I separate my long form stuff to YT, and shorts to TikTok. Not monetized on YT yet, but making decent money on TikTok. Plus, TikTok pays MUCH better for their content(only for shorts, long form YT is much better).
It is the same as that saying when you try to impress everyone you impress no one. It is better to choose what route you want your channel to go in the future because business is a long-term game. I knew this problem already when I checked tons of big UA-camrs with millions of subscribers who got those numbers from Shorts then I looked at their long-form videos with the same views as small UA-camrs.
Wow… that’s exactly my problem! I get most of my subs from shorts but my focus is my long form videos… I’m gonna have to do some serious thinking on this one. Thanks for sharing.
I just started my first channel and I’m trying to grow it using shorts only. I still have a lot to learn and I understand it will be a long journey. So thank you for the great tips!
Do UA-cam shorts to increase sub count fast. It took me 2 years to get to 56k subs. My short term is to get to 100k in April 2024 and the silver play button.
Great video and great points! One minor correction is that MrBeast didn't "give up" on posting shorts, he just has an entire separate channel dedicated to them, so that the subscribers with shorter attention spans are all localized onto one channel.
I really messed up 😂 I focused to much on shorts . I should have started a long form channel before I started short form but I wanted to see quick growth :/
Make shorts FROM your long form content and your audience will view your long form content if they found the short interesting. You can't expect to retain the audience you gained from shorts about separate topics than your long form content.
This was really good information. Shorts have been hit or miss for me since I started my channel last month. Sometimes they would get 5000 views sometimes they would sit at 0 or less than 100 and then for some reason everything stops on my channel for a day or two, like no views, subs whatever. Like the algorithm is broken and thinks I'm spam for a few days I don't know, makes no sense. I'm really glad I came across this video, now I don't have to worry about making shorts anymore, I'll focus on my longer videos (which are only a few minutes anyway lol) but it will save me some time.
I went back and forth on shorts and ultimately decided that if I was gonna upload shorts to my main channel, it was gonna be no more then 2 a week. So 2 shorts along with 5 longform videos. And so far it seems to work with what I want to happen with my channel. Mind you I'm well past the point of trying to get monetized so I don't exactly have to use them for much else other then possibly promoting the long form videos. Even then I'm gonna bank on that strategy working.
@@DIGITALINCOMEPROJECT I gained like 2500+ subscribers from shorts. Most of my subscribers came from Long Form videos. I've been doing this for 10 years so not too surprising that I've gotten most of my subs from Long Form videos.
Great video brother, I honestly think UA-cam shorts is a separate business than regular UA-cam content. Because they don't let you link your longer videos in the description, they do not want Short viewers to switch to longer content on UA-cam because they pay so little money out for shorts, they profit way more from the shorts. Thanks for sharing.
This is 100% true. I was making shorts and long form content and I was getting hundreds of thousands of views on my shorts and maybe 1-2k on my long form. I ended up deleting all of the long form videos and turned it into a shorts channel only. Luckily I did this at about 500 subs, so I don't think the damage was done too much. I'm just worried about getting monetized at this point. I see a lot of channels in my niche that aren't monetized and I'm dying to know why. One of them even has over 3 million subs.
Wow, really mind blowing. At first, when I starting my channel, I exactly thinking like this. Get subs from shorts, get monetized and back to long form video. Damn
I can see why this applies every time to face-less channels, repurposed, edited content etc but I follow many creators in lifestyle/influencer niches that get hundreds of thousands on both types of their content, which they post on the same account. I think if people want to follow YOU then they're most likely to watch both forms. Especially if you're posting different things for shorts and not just taking clips of your long form videos. But there isn't really a shortcut to getting your audience to get to that point so you just have to put in the traditional work. Also, when no one knows you, long form videos have more views that come from search where shorts are usually just something that shows up while you're scrolling. That's also why your niche may not have done well with long form, because I would rather spend that time watching something from a more "authentic" or "original" source if that makes sense rather than through someone's editing style or commentary. Mr.beast is an outlier in everything and I'm sure he would have seen more views if he didn't switch to a separate account for shorts after only 31 uploads. Regardless, he didn't have a need for eyes on him when he started shorts like most small creators do so he may have had a different approach if he was in the same boat as them. Anyways, great videos. they always get me thinking about different factors to consider.
That’s true. One thing to mitigate that would be to edit the long form content to show it to non subscribers first. Essentially getting two types of audiences pretty much until UA-cam tweak that. 🤷♂️
This makes a lot of sense. I had 5K subscribers with long form content, and am at around 28K thanks to shorts. When I put long form videos out there, which take me 30 minutes to an hour of time per minute of content to make, they actually get less views than when I JUST made long form content, even though I have improved things like camera, sound, and editing. Every short is guaranteed to make 5-10K views with a few going over 100K and a couple over a million views, and I have been seeing around $1.25/10K views. This has started to discourage me from making long form content especially when I can film two months worth of shorts in an afternoon. A huge downside is that only going surface level like I do in shorts instead of taking a deep, well studied dive as I do for long videos has made me less knowledgeable about my subject.
We had a huge boost in subs when we had a short have 13m views, our subs increased by 40%, i think youtube is paying people to make shorts with subs, because they dont make enough revenue on shorts to pay money.. larry
Great video. I started this shorts channel from nothing about a month ago and have gained 51 subs just from shorts. Now starting to make some long videos, and after seeing this video I think I will stick to them.. The thing is I started this channel because of creators you mentioned were saying there is some money in shorts, a bit disheartening tbh since I've pretty much learned only to make short videos, not long ones. Feels like I'm starting from scratch again. Thank you for this video 🤛
I'll tell you my idea and maybe you'll follow along. I am planning on starting a gaming channel with long form content and will be using shorts to advertise it. However, I won't be having both yt shorts and long form content on the same channel. I'll make a sub channel for yt shorts to filter yt shorts subscribers. I only want those that actually like my long form videos to sub on the main channel. UA-cam has a feature on shorts now where anyone can link their long form videos to their shorts so this could help a lot as well.
This is the insane part of any business, without the people there is no views and money, so it’s like what are people into and we gotta give them what they want.
That is good advice. Before I started my channel, I had planned on posting both short and long videos. However, a friend on Facebook informed me that both type of audiences come to UA-cam with different mentalities. They suggested sticking to one, so I opted for posting shorts. On that, I was thrilled until last week when four of my videos consecutively surpassed 1K views. However, suddenly, the views came to a complete halt. Impressions or "Shown in feed" are practically at 0, and even my 70 subscribers are not seeing my shorts in their feed. This is disheartening because I don't understand why this happened. The average view duration and "Viewed vs Swiped away" were both over 50% on most of my shorts. So, why did UA-cam suddenly stop promoting them? I don't want to give up, but after four failed attempts to get views, I am seriously contemplating quitting :(
Yeah this happened to me. I was getting 2k-2.5k views and all a sudden would get like 100 or a few hundred. I kept going now I am back to 1.5k or 2k. I think the algorithm recently changed. But I too made some changes to my shorts. Managed to get my retention rate from around 55% to 90% in my last few videos. Now I just need to work on that viewed vs swipe rate lol. But yeah just keep going and see where you can improve.
This is true. And now, UA-cam is flooded with new UA-cam channels shorts because of the new minimum monetization requirements. Result: it's getting harder and harder to make your shorts go viral. I have 240 shorts, only 3 of which have gone viral. And this was during last spring's rush on shorts. And this while my shorts have only improved over time, but this didn't help unfortunately.😔
I'm growing my shorts and was thinking of making my first long form as I'm getting a little better at editing... this was a risk I was going to take but my channel usually does 30 seconds or more on shorts and my long for vids starting out would be a little over a minute. Then progress to to 2 mins. I guess I'll see how this goes.
Shorts still work really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of fame ster, but that's a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial boost, and that caused them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.
oh my gosh thanks bro. i was thinking to get my subscribers and views from shorts then switch to long form content when i was monetized but now ik. thx ur a big help!!
Hey I've got an idea, start uploading shorts and grab some audience, start making long videos but initially make them only 2-4 minutes as your audience attention span is less. And gradually increase video length Will this work ????
All of this is 100% true. I want to mainly earn from long form but getting the first 1000 subs was taking me longer than I wanted so I made some shorts and one went viral (2.6 million views and 20,000 subs as a result) , Bad new is, as of today, I'm still at 3800 public watch hours so my channel, 20K subs strong isn't making a dime yet. Fortunately I do have one long form video that has picked up speed (500-600 views per day) and will get me the watch hours needed within a week or two from now. An no, my 20k subs from that viral short is not getting me any long form views.
Thanks for sharing this information, very straight forward and makes perfect sense. Mixing shorts and long content does cause problems and it confuses your audience. Appreciate you sharing this! 💯
Going through this now. Shorts are doing much better than my long-form. Bulk of my views and subscribers are from Shorts. Thinking once i hit 1k subs, I solely focus on long-form. CTR has been averaging less than 3%. Any advice?
i think this can be true if you have a faceless channel .however I have seen ppl have good views on shorts and long form if it all about them. personally i have had the split audience problem even with long form. i have had differnt types of long form videos blow up at differnt times. now im kinda confused on who follows me and why. so a successful video can be a bit of a crap shoot hahah.
so basically pick whether you want to do long vids or shorts and stick with it. This video was actually informative especially to those who are just starting out.
I had the same plan for my art channel and discovered the same thing you did. After I stopped posting shorts did my channel start to take off. One or the other, NOT both.
Great video and thanks for sharing your knowledge. Like many of the comments here, I am contemplating what route to take. This video has shed some much needed light on my plans.
thanks a LOT!!! I am just starting out and was making the same mistake, long form 19 views and shorts 100+ stopping shorts cuz my niche NEEDS long form viewers
I totally agree with you on this...most of the few subscribers I've got are from shorts as such when i post long form they dont watch and i end up each time with no views. Now I am a bit confused as to what path to go...
I got a yt. channel almost at 100k subs. I'm generally a long form poster, but posting some shorts started giving me a lot of views and new subs. Although the Adsense revenue is low, it helped some of my okay performing long content to get 2x the views. UA-cam algorithm just decided to blow some of my videos up, I hada a long video with 200k views and it got an additional 300k after my shorts. So just wanted to post my experience. But my audience mostly kept wanting me to post long form content so I think of shorts as a tool for more views on my long videos and it seems to be doing well. I would never want a shorts only channel as I give much better value from longer videos and it helps build a relationship better. But I can see building a huge audience with only shorts can have its problems when transferring to long views. This was a good video man, keep it up!! Almost 100k, wish you the best =) (first video I watched of yours, UA-cam suggested your video on my feed and your first impression and editing skills were great, your channel seemed underrated af to me so keep it up, you will become much bigger for sure)
Honestly speaking, I think a lot of these "youtube automation" channels fail is because their content is low quality. As a viewer, it's easy to tell that they're only in it for the money and don't actually care about the things they talk about. If you look at passionate creators who make high-quality videos, they're extremely successful with Shorts. The difference between the get-rich-quick people and actual creators is that creators think about their audience and love what they do instead of being obsessed with clicks and money. People are not dumb and they can tell when you're giving it your all.
Guys, if you enjoyed this video (and especially if you saw what happened at the end from last time) could pleas do me a favor and comment + share this with a shorts creator who needs to see this? I am curious if we will randomly flatline our view traction again like last time... thx all 🙏

Started one UA-cam shorts channel where I was only resharing my instagram posts. After about a year it was making 1k a month, and that’s without even trying. So, it might not be as good as ling form, but considering you spend less time making a short, it’s worth it
Shorts are a good way to make money if you get millions of views.
I completely agree
I think it depends on how invested your audience is to you

Thanks so much. This is so important and I did not know about it! The video that you showed in the beginning was the exact video I had watched and believed him.
Great honest video, I think the problem is the UA-cam gurus make good money if they make a longform video about how to make money with shorts.
That's why i respect your channel you show the real behind the scenes.
Thanks G 🫡 stay tuned for more like this
yup this is what scares me about short, I think the best way to make use of shorts is has to be separated channel.

You may have short successes at first, but then it all goes away.
thanks for saying that :)

Appreciate it
The signals that UA-cam takes to decide what's a good or a bad video lack context and requires a massive, surgical update. It's outdated.
This is my problem with my channel. Grew my channel from shorts, but have always aimed to focus on long form content. 100k subs yet my long form videos barely scratch 1k. I know it’s a journey, but now I know to refocus on the long form. Thank you!
Bro editing is amazing ,this much hardwork is needed to get success on youtube
Yes indeed. Editing is the Hell Part 😂. And i know that
Thankyouuu. I've started gradually transitioning from creating short-form to long-form videos.
You're right, I have 2 shorts channels and they don't do well, it's the long form thats important, thanks once again
Can you link your short form content?
Thank you so much for this video. I have my own long form channel that has just recently become monetised. I was contemplating doing shorts to build the audience but had those concerns regarding the actual audience it was targeting.
With limited time to spend on the channel I'm so glad I watched this before sinking hours into making shorts
When I made my reaction channel I made sure to mainly stick to long form content. I was aware that the UA-cam algorithm would mess up if I were to do both shorts and long form at once. Now after 2 months of long form content I am posting the clips into my shorts and they are generating okay enough views. It still depends on your niche but Start off with long form, then switch to shorts..
what percent do you think subbed from long form vs short?
I’d say well over 80% (edited 82%)
I like this comment, that's smart
It's the best to keep long form and short form channels seperate, got it!
Hope this video will help more people ❤❤❤
Wow, how’s the new one doing??
I’ve decided to abandon long form and going to start going after sponsors with shorts, affiliate marketing and reviews in short form as well as continuing my everyday stuff.
dude, thank you so much for this comment. I appreciate you sharing this. and smart on the alternate monetization routes, you are on the right track G
@@DIGITALINCOMEPROJECT
You’re welcome and thank you. I’ve learned some stuff on your channel in the past. Happy holidays ✌️
Plus, TikTok pays MUCH better for their content(only for shorts, long form YT is much better).
i thought tik tok didnt pay anything, i mean a paycheck coming from their company...
Unfortunately, we had to learn this the hard way, thanks to UA-cam shorts they ruined the platform
they should make their own app and website and they could be linked each other..
Totally agree. Recently I removed all shorts from my channel as it completely destroyed my channel. Only long form from now onwards.
Great video and great points! One minor correction is that MrBeast didn't "give up" on posting shorts, he just has an entire separate channel dedicated to them, so that the subscribers with shorter attention spans are all localized onto one channel.
This was HUGE sauce! I was building momentum off shorts and after seeing this my stats makes sense.
I really messed up 😂 I focused to much on shorts . I should have started a long form channel before I started short form but I wanted to see quick growth :/
Sorry to hear!
Your stuff is legit man, even educating a UA-cam boomer like me. Such a different platform compared to what it was 5-6 years ago.
Thx G
Make shorts FROM your long form content and your audience will view your long form content if they found the short interesting. You can't expect to retain the audience you gained from shorts about separate topics than your long form content.
That's exactly what I do, but before I didn't know that so I deleted my old irrelevant videos.
Even then I'm gonna bank on that strategy working.
hey thanks for adding this! how many subs did you start with when you began posting shorts? or was this strategy used from inception?
@@DIGITALINCOMEPROJECT I gained like 2500+ subscribers from shorts. Most of my subscribers came from Long Form videos. I've been doing this for 10 years so not too surprising that I've gotten most of my subs from Long Form videos.
That's exactly why you leave "notify subs" unchecked when you post a short.
True. Always 👍
For any UA-camr struggling, we shall all get there
Great video brother, I honestly think UA-cam shorts is a separate business than regular UA-cam content.
One of them even has over 3 million subs.
what kind of content is it? hi #DIPfam btw haha
Problem is people watching shorts do not comment for the most part, nor do they read the video description
Anyways, great videos. they always get me thinking about different factors to consider.
big facts. well said
I am only gonna say this, editing in this video is next level 🤩
That’s true. One thing to mitigate that would be to edit the long form content to show it to non subscribers first. Essentially getting two types of audiences pretty much until UA-cam tweak that. 🤷♂️
Could you explain more please?
Making sense, good video. Thanks!
A huge downside is that only going surface level like I do in shorts instead of taking a deep, well studied dive as I do for long videos has made me less knowledgeable about my subject.
make a seperate channel for shorts
and link to your long form channel too
Wow, thanks for this information. Nobody really talks about this for some reason
I love the option to link a long form video to a short video. This was genius 💯👑🌻🥰
So basically you must have two separate types of channel to succeed
Yes or an already established long form channel that you supplement w shorts
How do you make edition of videos???
So the best way is to have Two Chanel, one for short and one for long ?
If i understood well both can be on the same topic but not linked eachother…
That's the impression I'm getting too
We had a huge boost in subs when we had a short have 13m views, our subs increased by 40%, i think youtube is paying people to make shorts with subs, because they dont make enough revenue on shorts to pay money..
Thanks for sharing us your experiences so that we will be more aware and not suffer the same consequences.
always :) thx for watching
@@DIGITALINCOMEPROJECT IM suffering from same issue as you, should i create a new yt channel? or delete all shorts?
What you’re saying makes sense, but I still plan on doing a mixture. Ill just have to think more on how i go about it.
I’m still gonna do shorts lol
Me too.
But it's better to focus on one at the beginning so that you can put out your best and get monetized quickly 😊
I don't want to give up, but after four failed attempts to get views, I am seriously contemplating quitting :(
Ooof don’t quit, just apply the experience to the next project! 🫡
Thanks for sharing!!

I support exactly what he is saying!. I noticed this Shorts and Long form mix up some months back.
Thanks for the input! Another case study 🫡
Great editing, want learn how to edit like you
I don’t think so. Short can earn money
Any advice?

so basically pick whether you want to do long vids or shorts and stick with it. This video was actually informative especially to those who are just starting out.

I'm glad Ithis has popped up in my reccomended. Literally started grinding out YT shorts as well as long length videos. Welp shit 😆
Hey can we Link up and share ideas together? Hope to hear from you soon 🔜 thanks
Out of the gate with straight facts! I love the intro.
Truly the most valuable info on shorts, thank you!
