It doesn't look like people were "stuck" in the Waymo taxi, but rather protected by the Waymo taxi. I hope no one actually expects to program the taxi to run over the "bad guys"! Customers should just call 911 and notify support
Waymo has an accident rate of something like 1/7th of human drivers. "The most recent data shows that over 22 million rider-only miles driven through the end of June, the Waymo Driver has been involved in 84% fewer crashes with airbag deployment, 73% fewer injury-causing crashes, and 48% fewer police-reported crashes compared to human drivers."
On Friday Oct 4, my work colleague and I were in a Waymo and some dude in a Tesla tried to back into us two blocks in a row. Waymo backed out of the way. Not the fault of the Waymo. Disconcerting 😡
If there is anything we should learn, it is that Waymo did not solve traffic, did not make our streets safer, and did not revolutionize transportation. The same self driving technology is so much more efficient on bus rapid transit.
What I've learned is the masses are easy to manipulate with fear and hit pieces like this one. This is still very much a beta technology, so drawing ANY conclusions about where it will be in the future is just showing a bias against the technology.
@@heyaisdabomb Self driving cars don't solve traffic. Go look up induced demand. The problem is that they are cars and are subject to the same problems as any other cars. Not saying they don't have their place, but for commuting they are grossly inefficient at moving large volumes of people.
@@Awesome_Aasim I agree that we need solutions other than cars to fix traffic congestion. But driverless cars CAN help reduce the human induced traffic congestion. But it's kind of a loaded problem, and since expanding public transit only gets more significantly expensive every year, I just don't see meaningful gains being made any time soon. In Sf, we need many more train lines, and we all of our lines underground to make them more reliable. Buses are a bad solution. Too infrequent and unreliable. I've been on and off using all modes of public transit for almost 15 years now in SF. Taking the train downtown from an underground station is great. But buses in undergrad could take 40 minutes, it could take 1 and a half hours, depending on bus wait times and overlap since.I had to take 2 buses. We will never see any meaningful expansion of the trains because it's just too expensive these days to do. Look at how much two train stop on the T line cost. One benefit if all cars were driver less is the ability to communicate car to car, allowing them to drive more efficiently. A lot of traffic is human induced. It's a know phenomenon with traffic engineers.
Let's face it this is not waymo's problem tho? Really it's the San Francisco hippy arse hobos casuing the issue💁🏻♂️ If you put waymo running in Japan I don't see no crazy Japanese hobo spraying your car or stand in front of it asking for phone number lol
there will be an induced demand when SDCs take over the streets. induced demand of bikes, scooters, walking, etc as people feel safer being on the streets now that theyre not overrun by terrible dangerous human drivers. Will take a while to reach that level of saturation though.
I think this driverless car is one of the dumbest thing out there. They're dangerous and already hit people. They block traffic. People are in a hurry and this robot car just sits there blocking traffic.
Passengers with driver licenses should be able to take over the driving if being vandalized or stopped by criminals.
Lol

No they were stuck. The taxi stopped because its stop safety feature. A person can still break in.
Sensational reporting. Waymo car did exactly what it had to do. Law enforcement is hamstrung by bad lawmakers. Typical SF problem
What if an arsonist were to pull some bad deeds?

Waymo usage is 1/10th of human drivers

Then everybody clapped.
Rob-o-taxi. Easy money for criminals

What a waste of money .
Good luck guys how it will change Laine construction time
Yikes - My latest upload, we ride in one of these sled-driving taxis!
I've seen kids in there alone... Lazy parents
Why does the city leadership allow it's people to be part of a beta test for a private company?
We gotta get money out and away from politics.
This dud he has robots wife maybe

what about the waymo car that blocked kamalas motorcade route in sf
Whos kamala, the comunist ?
