  • Thank you all for watching my video where I go through how I assembled the IKEA lack enclosure (www.prusaprinters.org/cheap-s...) and the new MK3 X-axis for the hotend (www.prusaprinters.org/prusa-r.... All of the different 3D printed parts and purchased parts are down below. If I missed something please let me know. It was a lot of fun putting together the IKEA lack enclosure for my PRUSA MK3 and my other Prusa MK2. I hope that you all enjoy the video and as always please leave me any feedback!

    Has anyone built an enclosure yet?

    • @codecitymayor6627
      @codecitymayor6627 5 років тому

      I haven't build an enclosure, yet, as I am not currently home. However, I've used half of it to rack my PowerEdge R710. I put casters on mine that I got from the local hardware store. I have a different 3d printer, so my tables are upside down and the top meets legs to legs (if that makes sense at all). I printed some parts that I found on thingiverse to facilitate this coupling of the tables. The casters were my idea and the racking of the various computers/servers in there were based on trial and error of different mounting hardware. I have two tones of some LED strips I bought that rate about 85 CRI that I am going to mount to give some passive lighting. I also want some RGB action in there--this is a secret I'll be working on when I get back.. This video inspires me to add some features to my future enclosure. Btw, this is a really great video--one of your best.

      I build this enclosure a few month ago but I think it is very unstable, so I am going to try using a slab of concrete under the printer. Since using this enclosure, I get some Y-axis crashing even with the 65° heatbed cover.

    • @cruzinbill
      @cruzinbill 5 років тому +2

      Yes, actually not a fan at all of how rickety it turned out, far too much inconsistency of the tables. Going to just get some lumber and rebuild it reusing the plexi again.

    The links you provided are so helpful! Maybe reference them more often. For a newb like me I wasn't sure if you made them/bought them/came with the ikea furniture etc. Didn't know why the disassembly of the machine was necessary either. Probably makes sense to the advanced people watching. Great video!

    The reason to not use PLA is because the parts will melt if your box gets to hot. I had mine melt and a door fell off when I was printing tpu. So if you plan on printing anything other than PLA parts I seriously recommend not using PLA for your parts

      I have been working on a home made version but I have not finished it yet. The MMU2 has some unique issues that I’m hoping will be fixed with the new S version that I am getting shipped to me.
      I really appreciate the comment, and I hope you are ready for a long winded reply. Basically I caught myself feeling like this was turning into more of a job than a hobby. When I started making videos I was doing it because it was fun and I was having a blast! Then I got the “I need to get subscribers” bug and I was chasing them and creating videos for that purpose.
      I took a break and that break turned into a vacation and that vacation turned into procrastination and that pushed right into me moving so now I don’t have any of my filming or printer equipment.
      I am working on bettering my modeling skills because ultimately George’s Gadgets was supposed to be an outlet for me to design and make cool things not just review and regurgitate content. I want to inspire people to try to build and make and test things, so when I do come back (in about a month or two because I’m moving overseas) that will be my focus.
      Miss you guys too!
      -George

      some of your thumbnails are good, but this on in particular wan't as good as it could be. I'm not the best guy to give you advice, (all my thumbnails are macro photography) but you could spend a little more time in photoshop with titles and etcetera and finding a good angle beforehand.
      You can look up a tutorial or something, it doesn't really matter. My point was you could be getting more views judged by the quality of your content, but your titles and thumbnails don't draw people in as much as they could.

    For attaching the bottom table, why not redesign the corner pieces for the enclosure part without the plexi holders and use the truncated cone meshing method. That would even the look out and make it a little bit modular (and give a couple more vertical inches in the bottom storage area. Better yet, if you have the money for an extra set of plexi, leave the corner pieces as designed and have an enclosed storage area under the printer.

    • @GeorgesGadgets
      @GeorgesGadgets  5 років тому

      Great idea Chris! I just wanted to use the metal brackets, just my own preference. But I like your style :D I’ll try that in the future

    • @Sembazuru
      @Sembazuru 5 років тому

      @@GeorgesGadgets Expanding on what I said, I was first just thinking of using the plastic pieces between the bottom of the feet and the top of the lower table. But after watching your installation video where you pointed out that the pre-drilled hole in the leg is used to attach the leg-bottom plastic piece I realize that the leg-top plastic pieces are also necessary.
      If you want to get even crazier (and will probably start having to mount the contraption to the wall) also add an enclosure area to the top. Use silicon to seal the plexi to the underside of the table and to the legs. Use some sort of weatherstripping on the bottom edge of the plexi and on the doors. Then put a rechargeable desiccant pack inside with the filaments (multiple rolls for MMX builds) to use as a dry box to print out of.
