I'm new to swimming and these videos are tremendous help in learning the breaststroke because of the slow motion parts and the underwater angle to get a better view on the swimmer.

I have started swimming after a long time ~15 years now. I used to perform breast stroke with my head out of water the whole time and now am trying to self-learn the underwater breathing (back hurts the other way). Your videos - this and some others are really helpful. Thanks.

Recentliy taught myself the breast stroke. I think this is the best demonstration I've seen so far on good technique

Treading water is a sculling skill and a relaxation skill. I'd practice some sculling in the shallow end, and also some breathing exercises in the shallows before you venture to the deep. You can still swim without being good at treading, but if you ever get in trouble, treading water is a great skill to master.

Really cool. I have learned breaststroke recently and this video is really very helpful, it breaks down the different stages of the technique.

well, I was away from competitive swimming for 40 years! hahahahah , omg the strokes have all changed..but having the you tube and no consistent coach has impelled me to seek courses and self learning.I am proud to say I have one of the best strokes in ALL strokes now...age does not matter but; having the athletic ability from childhood sure helps! Many thanks for the great videos and the simple instructions makes learning easy.

@fkeopfkeop - It's actually a great question with both versions being correct. Some people start the recovery with the feet apart because they feel they get the feet in a better position for the kick. Others feel the limited drag with the feet together works best. I'm a feet together guy now that I'm older, but when I made the Olympic Team, my feet were a bit apart. The stroke was much different then too though. Experiment and find what's best for you.

Really helpful. I want to join my school's swim team and have not done actual swimstrokes in a while. What should I look for when tryouts come around?

@bunnyboo486 - Practice long... race aggressively. If you think too much in a race, you could limit yourself. You practice so that good things happen when you don't think. Go get 'em.

Should you recover with the feet joined together or should the feet be seperated? I feel like my speed is decreasing more if I recover with my feet joined together.

I tried to do that. At first, I thought it was so easy. But by the time I tried it, it wasn't so easy as I thought. I am only good at butterfly. But not breastroke
