My precious.... linen fabric! And all the cuts at the end! ❤ You are my favorit show woman and your husband is an engel to support your passion with such engagment and joy (by the way I loooove the cover pictures of the videos, with this focus game on the fabrics... each time very appealing! Bravo!)
I think that was the first time we've heard Paul's voice! I love the laughter you both share. Oh yeah.... I love the quilt and the quilt blocks too!!!! I spy Kaffe Fassett fabric in the blocks on the table. Great combination and coordination there.
I think so, too, MaryBeth! Paul tries hard to stay out of it and let me do my thing! But of course he is right there with me, and makes me so much funnier with the captions and graphics! Thank you for the compliment about the Kaffe Fassett fabric disappearing 4 patch blocks--it means a lot! ❤️
I’m really new to this channel and have been binge watching previous episodes. I love that you showcase the quilt in the background so we can see how it looks when sewn together. Last week I decided to see what would be available in my area for thrifted shirts. Most of the thrift stores sell shirts for between 3 to 5 dollars, but one store allows you to fill a reusable tote bag for 8 dollars. I managed to get 15 shirts in one bag!!! Even though the color selection isn’t quite as varied as in your area (I’m in the upper Midwest) I was still pleased with the variety of colors I was able to find. Love this most recent quilt pattern but you really sold me on the disappearing four patch. I’m going to try that one very soon.
I ordered the book after last week’s video as all of my quilts are utility quilts so I was so interested in what would be written about it. I haven’t had time dig into it yet - but I’m hoping to soon. 😅. Your linen quilt is lovely in every way - the color, the texture, the simplicity of the blocks are perfect for this pattern. Thanks for sharing and thanks to Paul for the editing. ❤
Fun video today Cathy and Paul. Love the quilt pattern and have it on my bucket list in navy’s and creams/off whites. Also want to do one in pinks and whites. And while I’m thinking about it, there are dozens of color combinations that I’d love to try using this pattern. 😆 My bucket list is ever expanding!
New Subscrber here. So glad UA-cam recommended you. Ive never made a quilt & have been tasked to make memory quilts from my dads shirts. He passed in 2009 & my momma & just "allowed" (i stole them) them out of her home. THANK YOU for your great directions/videos. They are extremely helpful. Paul also does an excellent job with the edits & fun inserts. Love your newest quilt 😍
Aww thank you! ❤️ And welcome to my channel---I'm so glad to have you along with me! So sorry for the loss of your dad. Grief is so hard. I'm glad you have his shirts and will be able to make a lovely quilt in his memory!
Sister this is so beautiful. I have the book and look forward to making this pattern. Whew! The PINK is so lovely! We are kindred spirits! Sew many quilt patterns - Sew much fabric - SEW LITTLE TIME! Sew On Catbird! Sew On!
I love Sméagol/Gollum too, I love teasing the mokopuna’s ( grandkids) whispering up behind them “ Oh my precious” 😂😂although it has backfired when one asked if I worked in the quarry when I was young with the middle earth people as his Mum (my daughter) said Nana grew up near the quarry in the Lord of the Rings.
I just picked up my first 2 linen mens shirts a week ago. So excited to look for more! They were great finds at a yard sale for $2 each. I really need to peruse the quilt book you mentioned!
Great explanation !!! OK so now i need to go back to goodwill / thrift store and get me some more linen shirts in other colors besides cream and orange !!! I want to make this quilt !!! bloopers ! love them 😂😂
Love to watch you go through your process in selecting color ways! I have sometimes taken the shortcut of grabbing a fabric I love and using the colors in it to begin my overthinking which fabrics I will use. 😂 I just cut up my first couple of shirts so I may incorporate them into a quilt soon. In your thrift store searching do you ever come across silk shirts/blouses at all? I have a small collection of my old silk blouses that I want to make a quilt out of but I want to collect a few more before I begin. Even if they don’t match what I already have, I can do some practice cutting and sewing to determine how to stabilize it so I don’t lose my mind but when it is done it is still super soft and floaty. I will handquilt it, also something I will need to experiment with.
I have done snowballing with black and then I tried gray because I just wanted to be different. I love snowballing with different colors cause sometimes white can be so everyday everybody. Thank you for your videos. I love when you have a lot to say.
One could also use a different size square or snowball. I have hundreds of random squares from guild members who didn’t want or need them anymore. I love using the little trimmed corners. I think I’m going to make leader enders and save them up for an adaptation of this design. Thanks for the video. ❤
Oh, I've been looking for an easy pattern after finishing other complicated ones. This one will be great for a layer cake and some white fabric I have. You inspired me!
Can't wait to get started! The Jonah quilt I made for my sister turned out to be "too pretty" (and a little too heavy for Florida) to use. So she hung it on the wall! I'll whip up a comfort quilt for her out of the same colors. Already have the book! 🥰
I think I need to get that book! Thought of you last night on a spur of the moment trip to GW...found a West Elm 100% linen king size sheet set with pillow cases for $20.00!! I won't piece with them, but the sheets will make great backings for my quilts and I think I'll use one of the pillow cases for a bag.
You definitely do---even if you just pick it up from the library to give it a go! You had me at "100% linen king size sheet set"!! 🤩😍😳 They will make great backings for sure!
The blue grey set might work well with the grey and navy shirts as the corner triangles, then add in more in the blue/green, maybe yellow or lavender range.
The quilt behind you looks like a case at Macy’s, full of lipsticks to try ❤ Side note: I love your glasses, I have a pair of “clear” glasses as well 😊
Please can I recommend another quilt pattern that would be perfect for men’s shirt fabric. It’s the HI Quilt by Emma Jean Jansen. It is based on 14 fat quarters and a small amount of background fabric. I’m in the middle of making it in turquoise and white. The block is simple to piece and comes together quickly It’s definitely beginner friendly and has plenty of impact. All the best from Worcestershire UK
I'm always happy to receive recommendations for quilt patterns! I think I have seen that pattern, and thought then (as you have now vouched) that it would be great for shirts! Thanks for the recommendation and for watching and commenting, Mary! ❤️
Enquiring minds need to know - what is the purpose of all those coloured pencil crayons and pens in buckets on the top of your desk? Is it just for ambience ? I can’t imagine why you would need those (that many )
I use them, along with graph paper, when I’m having a hard time envisioning a quilt pattern-I draw out what I’m thinking so I can see it for myself. I have so many because when my girls went to college, we cleaned out their rooms and LOTS of them surfaced! Lol! So I just put them in with the other ones I already had. 😘 They’ll get used eventually, I hope! 😄
Do you know, I usually have a block to show closeup, but it came together so quickly and I didn't make an extra block! 🤦🏻♀️😂 I'll remember next time! 🤓😘
Do you sleep? How do you work a full time job, spend time to go to thrift shops to find shirts, process the shirts, cook, clean, make/edit UA-cam videos, etc…...when do you have time to plan and make quilts?
Jojo, in all honesty, I haven't been sleeping well lately, so maybe that's when I'm planning quilts?! LOL.😂 I also have a very busy brain, so I'm always thinking about quilt projects! I'm fortunate that Paul works from home so he does the lion's share of the cooking and cleaning--and all the video editing! I don't actually shop a lot (anymore) for shirts and usually when I go I'm looking for something specific and can zip through a whole row of shirts in a flash; I often spend less than hour, and I go on my day off or Saturdays after I get off work. If I don't have binding to hand stitch, I break down the shirts in the evening after work on the couch (although I have SO many that need attention that I need to do more of that!) I do a lot of work in time snatched here and there (think 5-20 minutes in the morning before work or while waiting on dinner to get ready) to prep for the time off that I DO have so that when I have a block of time (day off, Sunday after we record videos) I can get a LOT accomplished, usually on multiple projects. So I might sit down and sew on 4 different projects, or press 36 orange peel blocks, or cut everything I need to do several blocks the NEXT time, etc. You get the idea. Basically I'm rarely idle unless I'm sleeping! 😂😱🤓 But somehow it works! 😘
I mostly don't worry about it. Especially since lots of quilters use fusible interfacing for thin fabrics (or stretchy ones.) So far I haven't noticed any difference in the final quilt. I do pull the interfacing off if it's easy to remove or particularly thick, though! 🤓👍🏻
I just saw a video about making an apron from a shirt, for those who are interested...... It is a Japanese site. She made a pinafore apron out of a plaid shirt. You could just type in "make apron out of men's shirt" and it should come up.
You're gonna love it! I don't give the details of patterns that aren't free from the designer---but you can probably find the book in your local library like I did! 🤓👍🏻

I just found your channel. At first I was excited, until I went through many videos and you didn't sew one thing on camera, or cut or really do anything but talk. Really Boring!
Bloopers at the end---don't miss them! ❤😂🤓
I would not be mad if bloopers became a regular feature 😀

Thanks, Veronica! He is the BEST! I think you'll like the book--let me know if you do! ❤️

Entertaining video editing - just shared with David. Fat quarter and change - LOL! And the test pattern color bars. And great content - as always.
Thanks, Lisa!❤️

Thank you, Eshelle! ❤️ I love that you mix it up with black, gray and different colors---and you're so right. White CAN be so everyday everybody!!
Such a pretty baby quilt! I really like the pattern. Patterns can be simple and still make gorgeous quilt.
I agree. I'd go even further and say that often the simple (well-designed) ones make the most gorgeous quilts!
I have this book! I’ve done a few from it and they are all easy and quick but look fantastic. I haven’t done this one. Love the bloopers!!!
Thank you, Caitlin!❤️ When we got done filming, Paul said, "I think this one will have a blooper reel!"😂

What a wonderful project that will be, Nancy! And you're welcome! ❤️
Love, love, love Sharon Holland, and your version of this quilt is SO lovely!! I'm going to have to make one now!♥
You will have so much fun with it, I think! ❤️
Love the "fat quarter" graphic! That must be your husband's idea. LOL!
You know it is, Emi! 😂 He is the best--and makes me far funnier!❤️
Paul's editing was on point! Fat quarter and some change 😂
Right?! I DIED when I saw the fat quarter and some change! 😂

Thank you, Lynn! ❤️ I was on the fence, but now I'm thinking it's a real possibility---but I need more blues!
I agree! I ❤the patterns in Sharon’s book!
Thanks for your ideas! I do enjoy your videos so much!
Thank you, Sherry!
Love your collection of linens!
Thanks, Johanna!! It's taken me awhile to collect those fun colors!
Look how pretty your jars of coloured pencil crayons are on your desk!
Aww, thanks! ❤️
Your videos are so thoughtful- as in full of thoughts! I really enjoy them. This is a lovely pattern. How will you quilt this?
I think very simply. I might even hand quilt it---which would be my first real quilt to hand quilt! (I've only done mug rugs!)
Just ordered the book.
Can't wait to get started! The Jonah quilt I made for my sister turned out to be "too pretty" (and a little too heavy for Florida) to use. So she hung it on the wall! I'll whip up a comfort quilt for her out of the same colors. Already have the book! 🥰

I love that book! So many great patterns it. I bought it the last time you mentioned it and I still can’t decide which one to work on first 😅

It's a whole other thing--but also really wonderful! Of course I love it! ❤️
The pattern is a disappearing 4 patch, isn't it? The colors are pretty!
It's actually not a disappearing 4 patch (if my understanding of that term is right) it's just snowball corners.😊 And thank you!
Went thrifting with my sister and immediately started looking for purple shirts! 🤣
LOL! I love it, Anne! ❤️

What do you do about the fusible on the inside of the button and button hole plackets?

I laughed out loud at that too! SO clever and funny!
I read it’s hard for a sheet to be on the back because sheet thread counts are too dense and it doesn’t work well on quilting machines. Is that true?
All of the longarm-quilters that have quilted for me have no issue with sheets for backing, but I have heard that some won't quilt with sheets as backing because of the thread count. I haven't had any issues with the ones I've quilted at home (but then again, I'm not skilled enough to know the difference!) 😘
Fat quarter killed me.
😂 Right?! And "fat quarter and some change" put the nail in the coffin!
What is the pink and white quilt pattern, on the table, in this video?
