Love it.
Sometimes the answer is right under our nose. The shirt you are wearing in this video appears to be the colorway you ended up choosing for your quilt!
Orange and blue combos have always been my favourite. Can't wait to see this quilt . You make so much sense. Firstly by conferring with someone whose heart was not in it. And you listened to your own wisdom and you didn't compromise. Thankyou so very much for sharing your great ideas with us. Blessings from Australia.
I live by the “Finished is better than perfect “ mantra but you made me realize that compromising at the very onset is not the right way to go about quilting. This is way too much labor and expense to cut corners before there is really a need to cut corners.
As much as I love listening to you I love the wit that Paul brings to the editing and the overall production. I always watch your videos several times because there's so much humor and intelligence along with the great approach to color and quilting.
Thank you for sharing this enriching process. One of my favorite things about quilting is when I let go of a design that is not working. When I put away the fabrics that don’t belong together, or don’t belong in this quilt, I feel rich beyond compare. The fabrics I didn’t use are doubly satisfying and valuable, because they have been saved for another quilt, where they Will Truly Belong . I am grateful for my creativity, my inspiration, and the patience and maturity To Start Over. That is truly satisfying creativity.
Yes! The colors and "pictures" is the joy part of quilting...of course I have not made a quilt yet...I am just starting sewing EPP.
Your daughter (the Colorist) is so thoughtful. What an awesome help she is! I love-love the new path you found by taking that step back and being open to something you hadn’t envisioned initially. It IS ‘just right!’
What a colorway journey!
I love, love, love, love, love your daughter. She has her head and heart on straight! XOX
You are so right. The colors matter. Especially when there are only 5 solids. Execution mistakes are live-able if you have chosen the right colors. But the wrong colors will always make us uncomfortable.
Of course you have a shirt on that I would cut up and use in a quilt, Cathy 😂
I can absolutely relate to your hesitation in using background fabrics that don't look right to you when in the same quilt. I struggle with trying to make it work but when I've done that, I don't love the project. Other quilting friends don't understand my 'fussiness' but I have learned to listen to my preferences. I love the colors that you selected and I am anxious to see it put together!
These fabric-pull videos are my favorite. I so enjoy your collaboration with your daughter--she is so clear and cuts right through the fluff. This will be a wonderful Goldilocks quilt. Good job.
I needed to watch this video twice because the first time through my eyes where glued on what I am calling "the holly quilt" on your design wall !!!!! That quilt just might be the one for me to finally make a Christmas quilt after 35 years !!!! ps -- catbird quilts is so boss !!!
Yes, favorite color of the recipient is important and the place to begin...then you can play around with that and its pleasing compliments. Your color pencil drawings are not wasted because each one has its own merit. Some of us love purple and we were cheering for the purple/red choice❤. However you are not making the quilt for us "purple people"...your friend needs a quilt with colors that resonate with her. Any of those color pallets would work in a quilt but the one you chose for your friend will be something she will cherish and in her eyes...nothing could be more beautiful!! ❤ it will be a stunning quilt...guaranteed!
That block is stunning in its simplicity.
I laughed out loud when you said your friend's favorite color was orange! That was a surprise!
I just made two quilt tops (one queen, and one 70”x79” large lap) with shirts from my uncle who passed away in December. Bless your heart for using shirts for your fabric stash. I don’t think I will ever again use them in a whole quilt. The thicker fabric was not so bad, but there were a couple of shirts that were made of shirting fabric and were very thin and raveled horribly. I’m glad I made them and my aunt will love them, but I am glad I’m on to the quilting portion of them.
Ohhh, friend! This going to be an absolutely Scrumptious quilt! It screams sashiko to me.
