This song stopped me from jumping off the bridge and ending my life @ 15. Life was hell, homeless, parentless and unloved.. but I had APC there for me everyday. Hearing Maynard repeat over you at the end🥺 looking back and thanking God for them🖤
Glad you are still around. God Bless. #kjb #thechamp
Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
So happy you made it thru!! I bet alot of people are too.
Their lyrics seriously got alot of people thru some dark times.. love tool & apc
Felt that. You at least had a CD player.
damn bro... glad you're still here man. life is beautiful....
You matter in this world, and the more trials in life you have to go through, the greater your purpose... Keep rising above your problems ✨️ 🙏 ❤
A perfect song
A perfect album
A perfect band
A Perfect Circle
A perfect video
A perfect blend!
word man
A perfect feeling
a perfect bla bla bla
One of the actual perfect albums ever. Start to finish. Every song.
@King Greed What's perfect to one is garbage to another. This album is perfect.
This album is garbage, @@mtadams2009.
I get flack for saying "Thirteenth Step" is better that "Mer de Noms"
King Greed ew most of those I wouldn’t call perfect at all
The 1st album was the best...period the end
Struggled with opiates for the last decade plus a couple years. Now I’m cleaned up and starting to do well, and this album was there for the good and bad times! It’s been an amazing shoulder to lean on through that darkness I’ve endured, and has probably even saved my life. Thank you Maynard and every one
Well done mate, we all have our battles.
Randy Prodger like you brother I have found that music can carry me through the darkest times. Peace bro!
Video ,
The lyrics have a lot deeper meaning when you have lived them huh? I know I never really caught all the double meanings in the lyrics until I got addicted to opiates. It's been six years clean for me. But this song still takes me right back to that feeling of waking up sick and wishing I could just sleep forever. Its a really good reminder of what I never want to go back to, on those days when I have those half a seconds thoughts of "it would be nice to get high again" . Nope, never going back. So glad to hear you made it out as well.
Amen.
I don't understand why so many people have to pick either Tool or APC to like.
They're both very different bands, and both fucking amazing bands.
Acting like you can only enjoy one or the other is ridiculous. I'll jam the fuck outta both APC and Tool.
+Ray Klish I love them both! Same singer so....... but different bands! Ppl are petty!
+Ray Klish just how i love puscifer the same amount as theses 2
+Ray Klish Damn right!!! How could someone like one and not the other?!?!
and its the same singer for god sake to so your right like personally i listen to tool more because thats who i listened to for and havent been able to find a perfect circle cd were i am yet so your dam freaking right
I love both, too, but prefer APC as well. :) But, like you said, it's all about the mood. Are you Sabrina Owens from Toledo, Ohio by chance? Lol. If you were, that would be freaky. Haha.
Even Maynard himself said, this song isn't really about drugs. Its about anything that you are in love with.
Definitely had that vibe. Even the concept of a 13th step is always associated with drugs but it can be applied to any situation where power is uneven
"China white" as dracula as I approach the bottom, "jam another dragon" is like chasing the dragon , china white another heroin term
I listened to this song on replay after my divorced . It made lots of sense ..
People say lots;)
As someone who has made it through addiction after being totally dismantled and demoralized by a "first love", it's pretty easy to see how it aligns with either, largely depending on your mindset.
Seeing this live was a moving experience. The crowd was so into the words.
This song is a gut punch to listen to if you've ever battled severe addiction. Stay strong, guys. It's so hard too but, we can do it.
Three years off dope.... I am struggling with the money for a psychiatrist because im in benzo hell! I need them but, God its become so hard to get them.... But yeah!!! Stay strong too!
@AnnCurry-dh8xe you got it.... been there and done that
... cold turkeyed alcohol and benzos with a lack of professional care myself.... (Dr's leaving the practice suddenly, insurance, etc.)
.. hang in and keep fighting. It always gets better
For me it has been dealing with severe depression, and bulimia. That part which mentions the angel and the devil always wrecks me because I see it as continuing my healing process, even though it’s a long and painful journey vs attempting and finally succeed/my eating disorder relapsing and worsening (but the relief it’s so comforting).
Not to sound dramatic but this song, and the whole album has saved me from self destruction and ultimately killing myself, and continues to do so. Stay strong!
Why is every single one of Maynard James Keenan's projects so unbelievably good?
He's the lead singer, not his project. It's Billy's ...🤟🏾🤙🏾
Probably 'cause he's a Genius????
Billy Howerdell is the genius behind what's A Perfect Circle, not MJK. Maynard hate us all.
Theirs actually a very simple explanation for this..... He is a GOD!!!
He’s awake and trolls the sleeping lol maybe they’ll wake before it’s to late?!
One of the best intros in history. The bass is absolutely amazing
2023- 38 and still this song never gets old!
The day this song was released I was 15. Now I am 26, and still listening to this.
Great music is timeless
2022 now another year listening great music
I was also 15 when this song was released but im 33 now lmao
2022 Still great :)
I love the aesthetic of this music video. Haunting imagery of mother earth, nature and femininity. The footage is converted to 12fps to give it that stop-frame animated look. A dark, muted colour palette with ice blue grading.
I do not disagree with you, but then, there are the lyrics. There are others as good, but the poetry in this song. It's rather unexpected to have an obscure progressive metal band have such an artistic piece.
Pray you never have to face one of those.
Dark fae. Unseelie court.
Shut up bro
Eloquently writen, both lyric and comment.
It's strange how a song called "Weak and powerless" can make you feel so strong and powerful
I was sad a few minutes ago. Now, after listen to this, dude,i fell better awesome!
Just like the serpent on the staff ❤
It's fucking helping me with my fears and negative thoughts
It is the devil's charm all that sinful glittery
Tilling my own grave to keep me level
Jam another dragon down the hole
Digging to the rhythm and the echo of a solitary siren
one that pushes me along, and leaves me so
Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Over you
Someone feed the monkey while I dig in search of China
White as Dracula as I approach the bottom
Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Over you
Pale angel go away, come again some other day
Devil has my ear today, I'll never hear a word you say
He promised I would find a little solace and some peace of mind
Whatever, just as long as I don't feel so
Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Over you
Over you
Thanks. I’d hate to think they’re looking for a ...solitary salad fork 🍷👍

this is just one of most beautiful things i've ever heard in my life . i loved it when it came out ...and 15 years later it still gives me love. one of my favorite songs ever!
20*
APC will forever have a place in my heart. Such a phenomenal band.
Same!! ☮️
When you realize they were trying to create a perfect circle with signs and symbols it gets even better
To say this song will always have a special place in my heart is an understatement.
I saw this song live for the first time barely a couple days ago, and you know when you don’t want/don’t expect to cry but tears just start pouring down uncontrollably while you have a straight face? And understandably so; this song, their albums but mostly MdN and Thirteen Step have kept me alive since I was a tween/teen. This song perfectly captures my struggle of finally getting proper psychiatric help and proper meds, but always crashing down and wanting to attempt again or just straight up attempting. I’m really thankful for living this long to be able to see them live for the first time.
This song was the soundtrack of my life when it came out. Still can't stop listening to it.
There is no denying the beauty of this song--both melody and lyrics--regardless of background or creed. This is heartfelt.
The flow of these lyrics are so smooth that I am completely addicted
The meaning of the lyrics keep me listening constantly. Such a strong place in my heart
amen
The harmony at 2:40 still hits me the same after all these years.
It looks like this album will be saving me a second time, 20 years later.
Crazy how he wrote this and wasn’t even an addict. This whole album just captures addiction so well that I thought he would have had to be an addict. One of my fave albums ever.
You can tell that addiction played a huge role in Maynard's life, maybe not directly but indirectly with family and close friends that suffered and died. Layne Staley being one.
Maybe it's really a love song. God knows I'm that kinda addict
I think there are lots of kinds of addictions than drugs and they feel the same (I have not been a drug addict so I may be wrong). Definitely he experienced some form of addiction in his life.
Everyone's addicted to something so we're can all describe it really.. it's the silent majority can't or won't face their true nature's. And so certain types of addictions are stigmatised more that others. And this creates havens of addiction that one can hide in and avoid ever confronting themselves by marginalising and consequently defining oneself as other from "them" and "those" types of addicts
There’s literally many different types of additions other than drugs and alcohol.
Every single musician in every one of his bands is insanely talented
This song slaps so hard.
This album came out at a time when I couldn't have needed the message more. Ironically, it's a huge use trigger for me now but the fact that it's badass can't be disputed.
This was my favorite song back in high school. The lyrics relate to my battle with addiction later on in life as well as the fact that I have always fallen for the people who were always wrong for me.
So true. I battle demons all the time too. Plus a failed marriage. Song hits on many levels.
Absolutely epic album.
There aren’t very many albums or bands that I can just listen to an entire album start to finish, but APC is 100% at the top of the list. Any album they put out. Pure gold.
My god the bass line. As soon as i heard this just had to learn it. Amazing
Same here, it blew my mind
I was addicted for a long time, and this song was a spot on description of what that was like! Now that I'm clean, its hard to listen to this, but its a good reminder of what I came from and how far I've made it. Maynard's abilty to convey emotion through music is amazing!
Now listen undertow ;)
Wow crazy you said and feel that way. I was hard on cocaine when this came out I used to play this album over and over while I used. Now it’s also hard for me to listen to also. I get a weird sad feeling in the pit of my stomach. It’s a beautiful and awesome song. Just wished it didn’t remind me of that time.

One of the things I love about APC is that they're one of the few bands that have matching lyrics and music. Too often are there bands who just throw together something that sounds good, only to pair it with unfitting lyrics. They really have the whole musical psychology thing down.
I remember Maynard explaining that he writes the lyrics to the music, because it doesn't work when he tries to fit pre-written lyrics into a song
@@yelkhan2002 that's how I write too, it's the only way, the music gives me the impetus and mood to find the right melody and lyrics. There is no right way, but that's how I do it. The music sets the stage.
Cuando no existía UA-cam y tenias que esperar por la tarde para verlos por MTV.. buenos tiempos aquellos.. 😎🖤🔥🇵🇪🎶🎵🤘🏻
I found this beautiful diamond on one of the MTV2 Headbangers Ball compilations and I fell in love with it. Maynard is a genius

FuckMoiMosk Commercialism and how our society is annoying.

This whole album is great!
Our generation has no artists. Music is dead. Cinema is dead. Books are dead- we don't have a Tolkien, or a Frank Herbert. But, we have Maynard. And, everything he touches turns to gold.
Lmfao no. You don't get to decide what's art. You're so basic you're doing what every literally every generation does. We have books going bCk to b.c. on the laziness and uncreativeness of succeeding generations.
Be extremely basic if you like
@@spasegeek9214 I can't believe how clueless you are. Can you name any of these books that are worth reading? People define art. They are constantly declaring what it is and what it is not. Art is dead, in case you didn't know. That WAS the opinion of every fine art and music school. Now, AI is doing art, and creative people are using AI instead of their talent. To me you are basic. But, tell me, who are the great artists of this generation? What are these great works? And, if you want to subjectively listen to something and call it art, I do not have the right to tell you not to. But, if you listen to crap and as a result your opinion is crap, then you need to own it.
Where has this band been my whole life?? I'm so glad that I discovered this underrated band
They may be underrated but this guy has been putting out bangers for a long long time, whippersnapper
Ironically ...this song makes me feel Strong and Powerful
I remember when I listened to this song in 2006 for the first time and I had to record it in my voicemail when I wanted to listen to it going to the University coz I didn't have anything at that time to play this master piece. I was so obsessed with this song. God times to remind.

Learning how to play this song definitely allows you to appreciate it more.
"I'm so weak and powerless over you"
This was one of those songs when I first heard it gave me chills that's 20 years ago now still gives me chills
Maynards singing always puts me into a trance.
The entire album is apparently a concept album about addiction, each song taken from a different perspectives. But I must say I've always found this track to be a favorite. It's the atmosphere created from the tenor struck by their cords, and the dynamic quality of their lyrical arrangement that just kind of /compels/ me into the song. It's an epic piece of poetry. I love how they treat the video as a 3rd layer of texturing on the song. It's almost like I can't hear the song and not see the vid
2024, Still the most beautifully layered song.
after so many years, this song is still my most favorite song of all time. its beautiful, even being 9 years old when I first heard this song I fell in love and music like this helped me grow into the man I am today. definitely kept me from doing heroine
I love the whole album. I've been listening to it for years and it still feels as good listening to it now as when I first heard it. Fucking amazing. I'm so grateful that I have ears.
been in love with this band for the past 6 years, never got tired of it.
I remember growing up, watching this shit early Saturday morning, playing on VH1 when I was like 7. Must've been 2002. It spooked me at first but I found myself fascinated by the weird imagery and started to hope they would play the video again. 15 years... it's insane how the time flies
these perfect circle songs are so well produced, I always use them when I want to try new headphones or speakers
Owning weakness and powerlessness in some situations is real strength
One of my top 5 albums of all time. Just incredible from start to finish.
Rick Beato was praising this song on his channel. This whole album is a timeless masterpiece though.

Its good but not even close to the awesomeness of Schism.

This whole album is awesome
I love this song. A perfect circle is a amazing band.
wow... what a powerful song. Really speaks deeply of what it feels like to be addicted. Weak and powerless.. the more you feed the demon, the more it demands of you!
really speaks to how someone can feel about the world. weak, powerless, disenhearted, frustrated, defeated, etc.
Debra Miller or depression. just giving into death to make it all go away regardless of what god or anyone tells you.

the thirteenth step is pretty much about addiction
think about it, the twelve step program is an AA thing
Imagine being a Chinese person when the British purposely got them addicted to opium.

The music behind the singing! The drummer and guitarist are amazing
Yeah.. Still coming back to this after 10 years, Im 22 now.
this song never gets old
Great song, when i'm down it levels me out. I put it up there with 3 libras for me. We all have our songs to level us out when we're down and if you're here for that (or even i'm back here for that), it's all good...things get better...enjoy feeling something different, the good moments aren't as sweet unless you don't have the down to go with it, and if you're just here because you like the song - go for it, it's got depth.
remember all the way back maybe 2009-2010 loving this song and 13 years later I still love it
We all have that "One thing" that this song speaks too...
This song digs deep. Appreciate the music
I hope this man is hope so he can continue to work the whole world is hurting right now we need you bro!!!
I remember hearing this song on mtv as a child, still listening 15 years later
I cannot humanly describe how much I miss this album. MJK and APC have helped me to deal with this corporeal life countless times.
Thirteenth Step is a masterpiece.
I know this is a song about drug addiction, but I can't help feel like you could relate it to losing someone you love and not being able to let go.
You've described another form of addiction
"Promised I would find a little solace and some piece of mind, whatever just as long as I don't Feel so... Desperate!... Revelin'.... So Weak and Powerless... Over you." Omg!!! I fucking love this song!!!
It's not ravenous? Damn....
@@nikki-dm8fc .. You're correct, it's 'ravenous'. I have no idea what "revelin'" is that James wrote. Apparently they forgot you can check lyrics at any of a bajillion places on the intartoobs.
That's the part
I always come back to this. Year after year I relisten and learn so much more about songwriting production and vibe. It feels prolific. Like poetry in perfect time with the contemporary space to relay I message. Amazing.

Just amazes me that Maynard has produce three great bands all kind of going at the same time. I think in Perfect Circle his voice really comes through though the most recent Tool album Fear Innoculum his voice is amazing
