How to Upgrade ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 SSD (Tutorial)

- Here is how to upgrade your ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 SSD. In this tutorial I break down how to add another M.2 SSD (Gen 4 NVMe PCIe) this is a little bit easier than you might expect, but you might want to take some precautions before doing this. You could also remove the battery from either the battery or the connecter there but I didn't do that as I was having a struggle with getting it off. It's probably best to remove the battery, but this is just a quick walk-through on how to take out the back and put that SSD in. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them as quick as possible.
(I am no expert though lol)

Can you do a video on how to keep the laptop clean and healthy?
How to clean fans, how to clean screen, how to clean keyboard, etc. and how often to do so.
Just watched your video. I literally just got the Samsung 990 Pro. Great instructions. I have the m16 2023 edition. Nvidia 4070
Did the 990 pro fit?
I just replaced the stock SSD with a 990 pro so I have both running now, they both work great!
Yes its the same size at the 980 pro, I have both in my laptop now@@jpmayo316
Hi seems like I have the same laptop but it won't recognize my SSD. Thoughts?
@@gatewayrealtor664so I read on Reddit there’s an issue with recognizing the 990 pro, try swapping slots with the original ssd and it should fix the issue
Literally followed step by step. Great video.
Can you do a RAM upgrade please? Your SSD video was really nice/helpful.
I plan on upgrading RAM soon, I’ll let you know! I’m glad this video was so helpful
@@JasonDunna awesome bro sounds good. Yeah I’ve watched a view other videos and by far yours was the best. Clear video, straight to the point and just overall helpful. Thank you
question your not using a heat pad for the ssd, is it okay ?
When is new thermal paste required to be applied to the cpu and gpu?
Do you apply it when it’s dried out? How often is that?
Is it ok to leave the laptop plugged in for a prolonged period of time, just curious? I did a RAM and SSD upgrade as well. Can notice a difference while gaming for sure. Sweet ass laptop for sure.
I never take my laptop off the battery, but I have the settings in MyAsus set to charge the battery only to 60% so it lasts longer! Going to upgrade RAM very soon, did you notice a big difference?
@@JasonDunna yeah I noticed a difference for sure while gaming. Went from 16 to 32 GB of RAM. It was needed for sure. And ok I’ll have to check my settings and do the same. I normally just plug it while gaming and then unplug when I’m done at night.
You didn't install a thermal pad on the new ssd?
Nah I may at a future date when I update RAM
I just put on copper plates from Amazon
@@JasonDunnacan I get a link to those?
Did you put the copper plates on the nvme, I have just installed second ssd and just put a thermal pad on to the ssd have I done it wrong 😱
@@Pitdroidsws I shop from Amazon Canada it won’t be the same link if you’re from elsewhere
What thermal pad do you recommend for the 2nd ssd?
There’s this “m.2 thermal pad, 70x20x1mm for M.2 2280 SSD NVMe Heatsinks (4PCS Pack)” comes with 4 for $6.
Will it fit with the ssd?
Which ssd do you recommend?
tips for guitar picking off the back panel after the screws are removed? im having a tough time
Yeah it’s actually kinda tricky, I had to try a few different areas to find one that worked. I also had to slide it under pretty deep too
Is this basically the same process for the g16?
I don’t have a G16 but I assume it would be similar!
So once you add a SSD in your laptop you don't have to remove the old one right ?
There are two m.2 slots
how can i install p2 m.2 2280 ssd it is not showing in my laptop, can you help me in this
Is it inside your laptop already? Did you check if it’s a supported SSD for your laptop? That’s the first thing I’d check because some of them are finicky when it comes to what SSDs you can use
@@JasonDunna I am installing a crucial p2 m.2 2280 new SSD to other slot
@@FilmyRahul did you install it inside your laptop?
@@JasonDunna I have installed it , it is not detecting, I don't no the compatibility of the slot .. I have b550 mobo it it working on gen 3 slot not in gen 4 but I don't know how to make it work on laptop. Currently I am using factory installed SSD which is micron SSD..
@@JasonDunna yes it is not detecting model no. is Crucial P2 M.2 3D NAND NVMe PCIe 512GB SSD Up to 2400MB/s - CT250P2SSD8
Also If you can mention compatilbe ram options and SSD model number. Thanks
I don’t want to recommend something that may not be compatible with your device. There’s a webpage online by Corsair that will detail compatible SSD and RAM
Links?
You took the sticker off the nvme right
Nah I read that it disperses the heat and you shouldn’t remove or the warranty is void. Might not be correct but idk hahaha
@@JasonDunna the the decal but there’s usually a thin clear plastic to protect the finish rarely there is not but most of the time there is. The actual decal that is a cooler
do i need a thermal pad for 2nd ssd
@@BizarreOwl I didn’t use one and it was fine but it depends how hot yours gets! They’re only like $8 for two so there’s no reason not to, but I didnt use one. It’s a bit risky since the inside of a laptop can get really hot
@@JasonDunna has there been any issues so far
I haven’t had any issues myself and I play games on an external 1440p monitor so that would get things cooking. Probably not a massive risk but over time it could potentially cause them to wear out quicker or fail. Make sure you keep it dust free as well! You can always add them in at a later date
M16 model number ?
ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (2022) Gaming Laptop, 16” 165Hz IPS Type WUXGA, GeForce RTX 3060, Intel Core i7-12700H, 16GB DDR5, 512GB PCIe SSD, Thunderbolt 4, Windows 11 Home, GU603ZM-AS71-CA
@@JasonDunnahow much extra storage can i install on the second PCIe? It's 2tb the Max?
@@leosvanyolea084 tb
Some people online said they did 4tb with a crucial one but I can't confirm if it works @@leosvanyolea08
Now come do mine jason
Certainly! It was pretty fun tbh
990 pro didn't work with my 2023 m16 4070
Really? That’s odd it seems like it should be supported
