Fun fact: we bought nice new mics as clearly evidenced in this video and then when I tried to use them I accidentally turned the gain up way too high and couldn't use it, so you still get our normal camera mic in this video even though I'm wearing a lav mic on my shirt. Just think of it as like... decoration... and a precursor to higher quality vids!!
Nice decoration, and you look great Rachel! ^^
Thomas
PS. Can I borrow 5-6% of your energy???
Well hopefully soon your mic problems will finally be over :)
Good luck!
Rachel & Jun Oh, well, しょうがない。Looking forward to the next video.
Those contacts are strange >.>
Rachel & Jun I really love the lipshade that you are wearing. what brand and color is the product? you should do a review on it 😘😘
Learning friends while making Japanese...
.......
an app that will exceed the sky of time
mcrazza like a magic
all clear mission
Oh yeah, that's sounds better
Where was this app when I was in High school when i needed it T.T
I have the language learning skills of a potato.
Viet Lee from JK to this.
Hey Anime,Game, Rachel&Jun Fans scrolling through the comments! I'm at 220 subs just need 780 to 1k :p I hope you have an amazing day or night!🙂 From a small UA-camr who's dream is to hit 1k subs or more 🙏🏻Rachel is my Role model he inspired me to be a youtuber :) My family is going through a hard & difficult time, It would mean a lot if you support me, hopefully I can collab with Rachel.
Viet Lee Lol
As long as you're still alive, you have plenty of time to learn throughout the year. Just keep at it! Do you best. ;)
I've been learning Japanese and German both at the same time with no one to talk to (sometimes my mum in Japanese). This seems like a great idea. Except for my social anxiety haha
It's all faceless people on the internet! ;)
Talk to them just like you're commenting on this video!
I'm Austrian so I speak German . If you want to chat you can message me :) I have social anxiety too, your comment is so relatable ^^
omg but you speak English so great now. What will I offer you? I can
speak conversational Filipino since that's half my ethnicity lol
じゅんさん、レイチェルさん、こんにちは!

今はカナダで英語を学んでいるのですが、このアプリは英語を学ぶのに役立つアプリなのですか??
教えて下さい(^^)
Haha, you're really nice ^-^ I know almost nothing about Filipino but learning simple phrases would be fun!
Omg that Amber skit was hilarious 😂😂😂
I never know what to say to people on those messaging apps :(
saaame
google conversation starters, they sound akward as hell, but the other person will understand
I made one Japanese friend that I spoke to regularly ^^ but unfortunately we didn't have much in common, So our discussion only last two or three weeks! She only liked nature like I did so.. !
Gabrielle Tillmon I always worry someone will find me boring if I do that though in truth, I do that exact thing with my own friends online here in the U.S...I'll ramble about how I hope we have snow here in the south which will close the roads (the south and snow makes for bad driving with most people so most work places close), I'll chat with them about a new anime they NEED to watch, or about my pets, back when I had them. Not sure why I feel I need to be super interesting when speaking with someone from another country when likely, that person is just as ordinary, lol. Maybe because I don't go out or do anything, so I project that insecurity with my conversations. I'll try to be more natural though if I ever pick back up learning German and want to connect with others. Great advice :)
Fluffymiyster, you indeed ramble quite a lot .__.
the text to voice was pretty scary, I was alone in my apartment(it's a 40 year old japanese one) and the video suddenly started buffering, but the audio was still working due to lag, and the voice suddenly said something(if my understanding was correct) it was sometying about living alone. which scared the hell out of me cause I was alone and it was at night.
Haku the international idol
The reading function was so creepy omigod
I've been using HelloTalk since March of last year and made two friends from it. I showed them around when they came to visit me in Guam and one of them showed me around Kyoto when I came to visit. We still keep in touch and it's a great app for learning.
Rachel, I just want to say thank you for telling me about HelloTalk. I just downloaded it and so far it seems really helpful. THANK YOU!
Hello Talk is amazing met all my friends from there and some of us have plans to meet in the near future. (actually using it rn) Also if you are currently living in japan and want to make friends i suggest downloading the app called Meetup. they have groups that meetup in person whether it be an International meetup group, a group with friends who play sports, meeting people who are interested in learning your language, or even just going out for drinks.
I met a friend on that app over a year ago, and in September we met up for a day in Nagoya and we had so much fun! Then later she came to America and stayed with my Wife and I and we took her to San Francisco and did some Touristy stuff! Awesome app
Andrew Walsh that's awesome, it's also nice because if she's able to let you stay with her when you guys visit you save much money which is always a plus :)
Idk where you are from, but from California to Tokyo, we can get tickets between 400-600$. Going to Japan is about as expensive as going to some states. So right now is a good time to GO! Wish i could go back
Woah that's really cheap! I'm in Florida last I checked tickets were like $1200
Can you do a tour of grocery stores there? They're weirdly one of my favorite types of videos to watch lol especially the bento section! oh and seeing the prices are also interesting :D
Hellotalk is okay for when you want to get your sentences corrected. But there's also a lot of perverts on there so I suggest not using a photo of yourself if you're a pretty girl😂
Ive been using this app a few weeks now and i love it so far
Subscribed! I was in Tokyo/Chiba last year. I accidentally came across one of your videos when i was searching for dos and donts of Japanese culture. Helped so much! Thank you! :) I'll come back for sure!
I plan to use this for my French once I get some decent progress on duolingo done. Thanks Rachel.
I started using hellotalk a year and a half ago because of your video. In the last year and a half I've gone from almost a complete beginner in the language I'm studying to being able to hold a decent conversation. On that little "out of 5" language ability grading, my ability has gone up by 2, which is a lot for such a short amount of time.
I use this app and converse on it daily. If it's a slow day I even will sometimes spend an entire day just chatting in the language I'm studying because the people I chat with are just that fun to chat with.
What surprised me the most was how many people are totally okay with not speaking any English and just chatting with me in their language. Many people are just excited to meet a foreigner who can speak their language well enough to answer all of these questions they've never been able to ask. I couldn't imagine a more ideal way to learn language than using hellotalk and I have Rachel and Jun to thank for introducing me to it!
By the way neither Rachel and Jun or Hellotalk paid me to say any of this
I joined and attempted to make a sentence that was supposed to be "I'm a games design student" (completely flopped the sentence), but made a friend within 5 minutes xD
Thank you for telling us about HelloTalk! It's been so helpful, and my Japanese is getting better and better each day. ^^
I follow your videos since your last hello talk app video (or maybe a little longer). I am from Germany and I started modern japanese studies. After I joined Hello Talk I found some language partners. We are helping each other in japanese and german. I will meet some next month to show them the citys in my country. It is very useful if you will use japanese sentences that you learned right before in your lessons.
With this learning strategy I'll keep vocabularys and grammar super fast in my mind.
My cat looks like a solid grey and white version of Haku. He also acts similarly, it's like my cat has a secret Japanese twin brother
Thank you SO much for this. Will help me get back into learning german again! 😄 The app is already helpful and I've only been using it for like 5 mins!
I need to add Haku as friend now!!
Hellotalk has brought me in touch with native people and its giving me more motivation to continue to study japanese. I was a skeptic at first, but I can totally recommend it. It's nice to be in touch with other people :-)
I've used this app for about 6 months and it's really nice actually! the only bad part is all the people who don't use the app for the intended purpose lol
I saw the rainbow and thought it was about LGBT! Lol
OH my Lord! I am very sorry to see Jun's Cat Accident picture! I hope that he recovers soon!
hahahaha that was a while ago, he's totally fine now!
Well! I am very happy to see that! At first, I thought it was some type of joke that you and he had played; however, I don't believe that You both would have done that willingingly! Thanks for replying! You 2 are some of the best and most genuine UA-camrs I have ever watched!
haha yeah it was from Poki right after we brought him home. He ate Jun's fish and then a couple days later springboarded off his face and scratched his eye. They had a rocky beginning to their relationship lol
Ouch! That sounds painful! :O
Wow! that is absolutely crazy how that went down; however, honestly I am so happy that he has fully recovered!
I get really nervous thinking about doing this kind of stuff. I feel like I'm too busy or I won't have enough time. or I'm really awkward and stuff. I wanna learn though. Should I give it a try?
Shino is in Yo Yes! Face your fears :):) I'm nervous too lol
アマラ Well like I feel like I'm gonna forget about it or just like I don't wanna be weird
Weird people are awesome! Idk, you seem pretty cool to me and I'm sure a lot of people would think so :) lol. I just signed up but I'm nervous too! Haha here goes :D
アマラ guess I'm gonna download the app then.
Ah this reminds me. I was supposed to make a video on Hello Talk, or talk about it in a related video. Then I realized it's not installed on my new phone. Solved that problem pretty quick!
Actually I've used Hello Talk in the past and it was a little useful but really, the Japanese people I talked to were great but they knew way more English than I knew Japanese so we just ended up talking in English mostly. Then after a while we just ran out of things to talk about.
I've also used this app after your last video that introduce the app. The app is really useful. 😄
Wow
How cool...thanks for letting us know about this app.
I've used google translate in the past with one of my former housemate's mom when she was visiting from south america.
This will be a GR8 addition to the repertoire.
I use HelloTalk for Korean and it is pretty cool! :)
HAHAHAHAH OMG THAT PLOT TWIST HAHAHAHA THATS WAS PERFECT ~
Thank you for the subtitles! You guys are awesome! ^^
*French* - Mamie Sophie
*Spanish (Latin America)* - Diana Moreno
*Chinese (Taiwan)*
*Polish*
*Vietnamese* - Trung Dang
Moments was a great edition to the app!
I've only had this app for a week and it's already changed my life 🙀💖
Whoa, I saw you on HelloTalk the other day. Funny how I stumbled upon this video of yours today.
I made really good friends using hello talk☺️
I bought a new monitor and it runs at 144hz...Watching this at its highest quality and I must say it looks so amazing! Back to the video....I must check this app out before making my trip to Japan this November
Can you guys persuade Kohaku to make an Castagram?? I know he's probably very busy, but it would be ADORABLE XD
That was funny haha omg, that mini skit was good lol
I just got Hello talk, I really want to learn Japanese and find someone I can talk to in Japanese since I don't know when I will go to Japan in the future so it can help to keep practice my Japanese and not forget it
Even here im seening The last of us 2...
Linkrudo
I saw one of my friends' comments while you were scoring through the Moments page, lol!
*scrolling*
ImFrelled thanks. Either auto correct or I'm just not braining today.
Your welcome. I don't usually play the grammar-nazi but i couldn't resist considering what this video is about. lol
ImFrelled absolutely! Actually, I get really annoyed at people who correct a Japanese person's grammar, only to do it incorrectly themselves!
I'm using HiNative as of the moment which is kinda similar to this but I think this one is a lot cooler. Thanks!
This sounds pretty neat! Ah, I'm kinda shy/overwhelmed about starting out Japanese though. So many ways to go with it.
Okay I'm downloading the app right now :)
I love you guys so much
I speak French, Dutch and German and I'm learning English, Norwegian and Japanese.
Why do we need a VIP account to add more languages? ;-;
This is out of left field but I have been very curious and kinda concerned since I've learned about it. I just read an article and watched a documentary on the stalking issue in Japan. I was wondering to hear more about like your thoughts on it, possible measures being taken to prevent it, and if said measures are successful in preventing what was reported to be a growing problem plaguing japanese society?
Tellement cool l'application.
読み上げ酷すぎて笑いすぎて腹痛い
まあ、読み上げてくれるだけでも十分だけどねw
That hello talk app pissed me off. They've made a bunch of changes and I swear they changed something with the way people show up on the online list. When you made the first video about it I got the app and it was great! I got people messaging me every other day. Now whenever I open it I rarely get anyone. I do message people first also but it was nice to get a message from others first at the same time.
thank you for the video
Lol I remember seeing that post by Amber on HelloTalk. Just moments after I posted. Darn! Haha
Nice joke there Rachel! LOL
I have a good friend who I was able to have an hour long conversation with! It's so cool being able to actually see how much you have learned. Rin has become a really good friend to me.
Awwwwwww Haku in love
Hohoho this'll be great for a potato like me!!
Wow I really love your contacts.
haha , i been using this app for ages is so fun an have met some really cool people on it.
Did you rub catnip on the phone?
Jun did that and I don't know how, but he probably didn't even need catnip because he is the Haku whisperer
tellement cool l'application.
Thanks 🙏 it's perfect!! 👌🏻
All glory to Haku, Lord of awesomeness and internet troll supreme!
HelloTalk is one of my favorite language learning apps! I found out about it because of you guys. I don't use it often... or ever... any more, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's one of the best! I keep wanting to do my own video on it as well. It's super fantastic. Like, I can't say enough good things about it.
前に2人の動画でhellowtalkを知って、たくさん友達できました!!
今は仲良くなった人とLINEもしています👍
Yahoo0000 僕もです!つい先日はクリスマスカードが来ました😊
wheres the portuguese subs T.T
I speak Spanish, Galician, French, English, a lil bit of German and Japanese. How about you?
I was totally one of the ones that signed up for Hello Talk because of your sponsored video. I love the app but since my Japanese stinks right now it is difficult to use it since I can barely forma sentence. HAHA! When I get better it will be more fun to use I think. Thanks for all your videos! -Danielle
so I just joined HelloTalk and I love it so far! :) The one place where I don't have to feel embarrassed writing rubbish Japanese (and also correct English without being called a grammar Nazi.)
I've used it off and on this past year. Love it! Made some friends. Unexpectedly fell in love with someone I met on there!
I wonder if there is something like these for people who are trying to learn Mandarin. That would be really helpful.
i am dead i didnt expect that hahahhaha
I followed you on HelloTalk 😂 Thanks for introducing it to me a while back. I use it almost everyday now since September! It's been a great help 😊
i should consider downloading this app. i need to spruce up my japanese speaking
I learned Japanese by studying it in uni. Also, different uni classes from Japan have visited my class once every semester, so I got some new friends I can chat with on LINE. That way I learn even more Japanese.
I saw and liked that kitty post too lol
Oh wow, I didn't know you made a video on this. I downloaded the app 3 weeks ago and it's been amazing. People are so helpful and nice.
the incompetence of others upsets me when left to build up over time, and when they in their incompetence acuse me of being incompetent I get upset apparently.
messed up world
Im trying to learn Chinese, this seems great!
I tried this app many moons ago, but I'm not really the pro-active kinda guy, so I ended up with only 4 people to talk too, and eventually the conversations just died out and I stopped using it... Seems pretty good if you're a bit sociable tho. xD I also struggled with what language I should use to people, when they want to learn english, and I wanna learn japanese, haha
I'm very new in Japanese and my vocabulary is limiting. do you think I can still benefit from Hello Talk?
I think it would be good practice to try writing one sentence in Japanese every day. Even if you have to use a dictionary, and your grammar is incorrect, it's okay! People will fix your grammar and let you know if you're using a word incorrectly, so you don't build bad habits.
try teaching Japanese people English, they will respond in Japanese from time to time and you can pick up quite a few words that way.
You could benefit from using Hello Talk.
Guys I can not recommend that you try this app enough. It is so useful and I've met so many friends. I even went to Italy and visited them!
I completely forgot about this app! I meant to try it after the first video you posted about it - thanks for reminding me!
I've had this app since June 2015. Thanks for introducing me to it :)
前の紹介ビデオがきっかけで私もハロートーク使って言語交換してます😆楽しいです!
+kana t コメントありがとうございます!それは良かったです。^ ^
I've been using this app since June 2016 and I've met really nice people! Some can come off as being "pushy". I have been asked if I have a boyfriend, and other things that make me uncomfortable but aside from those issues, I really like this app. It allowed me to meet someone great, I've talked to him ever since I started using the app and we've now known each other for almost 7 months. I like the app because you can send voice messages (for practicing pronunciation), images, stickers, drawings, etc. Plus, if you feel really comfortable with a person, you can decide whether or not you're okay with sharing other social media that is more in depth with your life. Because HelloTalk limits that and is very strict on your privacy. And I like that. So thanks to this app I met such a great person whom I began to trust, share culture differences, lifestyles, etc and I hope to spend time with in Tokyo while also studying at a language school.
I tried using the app before, when you introduced it in your last video. But I felt so shy and awkard about using. Even though I'm a very proactive person when it comes to making Japanese friends in real life. Since I've moved back to Canada from Japan, and I miss Japan dreadfully, I might try using it again.
It's crazy how people wanna learn languages, and that's actually pretty cool.
I once posted my Skype username on a forum to make some penpals whom with I can practice language, I was expecting maybe two or three, but I kid you not, hundreds of people sent me friend requests, and even to this day I get some friend requests, after many years.
But the overall experience talking with penpals on Skype was positive, not only that I improved my japanese but I've met some cool people. So definitely I'd recommend it.
Of course following common sense, don't share your private information with everyone.
I actually used the app back when I was doing some casual learning for German but I started to become super self-consciousness about how little of the language I knew. Not just that, but I speak so colloquially online with friends about anime and stuff, I didn't know how to translate that into German with as little as I knew. But the biggest thing that I also learned was that while I was practicing German...I honestly have no reason to. I have very little desire to visit Germany, no offense (I'm not sure where I'd go). I happen to have a friend who's grandmother is encouraging him to learn German since that's what she mostly speaks and it'd be cool to give my friend someone he can practice with (though he's not started any lessons yet. He was gifted Rosetta Stone by his grandmother), but aside from that, because I don't have a reason for visiting the country, it makes me question why I started learning to begin with and then I just lose all confidence. With no confidence, I stopped learning.
In all honestly, Japanese has always been the only language I've ever wanted to learn, but learning even the basics has been a struggle. Maybe my mind just isn't one that can learn a new language...and I should at least be happy having English. Though saying that saddens me.
I use lang-8 and hinative, but I'll try out this one too! I can't use lang-8 or hinative to keep my posts small and sweet, so this should be good :) I do struggle sometimes with what to write on lang-8, and hinative is more like an online dictionary, where you interact with natives. Thank you, Rachel and Jun ^^
I tried HelloTalk to learn some Japanese.
It was succesful! Almost...😅
People are very-very inactive, so it was really hard to find someone who I can talk with. But finally I found a lovely boy (I am 16 and he is 18). We talk in English, but naturally I learned some Japanese from him and he learned some Hungarian from me.🤗 Lately we talked more and more, we learned that we have a lot in common, and now we became really close friends, even if we haven't met yet (we made a promise that we will meet someday).🥺
Also, it's amazing how much my English grammar and vocabulary improved while talking with him. We can talk about everything, I mean EVERYTHING.
I'm so happy that I have a friend from the other side of the world, like him. I just want to see him in person and hug him tightly. He is such an amazing friend.🤗
So thank you, HelloTalk!❤
Hey! I actually signed up after you posted the last video about HelloTalk! Kind of fell in love with Japanese and been studying it since. Planning on studying abroad in Japan next year majoring in Linguistics and Language Education. Also met a really great gril on the app, so thank you for suggesting it! 本当にありがとうございます!頑張ります!😊
I would talk to people with Disney Characters in their profile photo and we would talk about Disney, I would type in Japanese, and they would type in English.
What about meeting people while traveling.... in person, how do you go about, for example, asking a group of people you may have enjoyed talking to to join you for like karaoke or a bar or something.. like is that socially acceptable in Japan or I should it rude ?
I absolutely LOVE this app. In my experience I traveled to South Korea, not Japan but I started using this app a month or two before the trip and made a lot of cool friends that I was able to meet when I arrived in Korea. I think its really cool to make friends like this so you'll feel more comfortable roaming around having a local person with you!
Hi Rachel and Jun, I actually tried Hello Talk, Italki, Tandem and a few (maybe all 😅) other language exchange apps, and personally, I've found 'Tandem' to be the best designed and most efficient app for language exchange out there. Have you ever tried it?
BTW, it's unfair to use Haku in your vids: now I cant stop watching! 😜
Never been this early! Hi Rachel! Love your videos
hahhahahaha
At first this seemed like an amazing app. Too good to be true, speaking to people in native tongue to learn Japanese!
But one part of that sentence just repeated in my head. "Speaking to people"
"Speaking speaking speaking
People people people"
Echoing in my head.
And then I'm just like
"Mmmmm....no...naaaah...i'm not about that life, nah. I don't even like talking to people in my native language so....no...."
I still have the app in case i change my mind but....
