I got the Vinyl Me Parton series and have really been enjoying it - One of the albums came damaged, even though the vinyl was fine - they replaced the album for free and let me keep the damaged cover and album - so I gave my extra copy away to someone who didn't care about the smooshed corners - but the vinyl was gorgeous.
Nice video. I subscribe to all of VMP’s track, with the exception of Country, but I did grab the Parton Me Please series. Most pressings are great, but some albums are not without their fault. I agree that they should improve their shipping method. The bubble wrap not only lacks protection on the corners, but sometimes damages the albums cover because it’s been squished. Luckily, VMP’s customer service is pretty quick to resolve issues. Finally, I hope that they move away from GZ as their primary pressing plant. For the price of a premium service, it would be great to see a better plant as the standard for ROTM releases. With the “negatives” stated, they are a wonderful service, and has an active community on Discord. I tend to recommend it to anyone who’s starting out and want to build a collection of good sounding records and open to exploring new-to-them music. A lot of folks diss VMP for their price and their picks, however, I believe they are priced appropriately and the picks have been pretty solid lately. Again, great video. Thanks for sharing your box with us.
I was pleasantly surprised to hear you mention the Nebraska album. Personally, I love that album. I just wanted to recommend something to you. A young lady by the name of Aoife O’Donavan does a cover of Nebraska. The whole album from start to finish. It is awesome. If you can find a copy of it I definitely recommend checking it out. Thanks for the videos.
I'm a VMP subscriber too, but may drop because when they have a record that I want it's not in the "track" that I signed up for or it's sold out. They have the "free" records promotion this year, but it's a limited list of, shall I say, less desirable albums. And they can't seem to get it together with the shipping. They ship via media mail which is the slowest and also sucks because the USPS tends to beat the crap out packages, compared to UPS & FEdex. The other problem is that they are always behind in shipping. Today is DEC 20 and my record of the month has not shipped yet. But they are ALWAYS on time to charge your credit card when it's time to renew.
I've been a member for about 2 years now. I have the essentials track and added the rock track recently. I've been exposed to some great albums I would have never experienced before. However I'm getting duplicates in my collection now. I appreciate their pressings and packaging. I've been contemplating stopping my subscription but still hanging on.
Solid picks! The reason for the blank OBI and no liner notes for STP was per artist request. SOAD from a couple months back didn't have notes and even had to ship the OBI flattened outside of the package. I replace all of the outers to Vinyl storage solutions sleeves. I do save the included ones with hype stickers in a box just to hold on to.
All my records that I have received from Vinyl Me Please sound excellent. A couple that I have don't have the inserts or booklets that the CD release has
but... all of those albums are readily available on both the primary and secondary markets -- so what is Vinyl Me Please really offering (other than availability -- for someone who lives in a rural area)?
@@TheVinylDen I remember being asked to write about Vinyl Me Please when they were first getting started. They sent me a copy of a Fugees reissue that they were promoting at the time. It was a good album, but I don't recall it sounding any better than any other copy of the album that I've heard before. I suppose that may have since changed.
VMP has some great stuff but they really need to upgrade their mailers. I can’t count how many damaged record sleeves I received before I canceled this fall. The last straw for me was VMP advertising the Pearl Jam Yield pressing as the inaugural release from their new “audiophile grade” pressing plant only to farm it out to another plant due to plant delays related to building permits. Given the price of that record, it felt like false advertising/bait and switch. I was only willing to pay that price because of the collectibility of an inaugural pressing. Not that I sell my records… 😂
@@TheVinylDen it was pressed at Furnace (plant owned by Metallica) instead. VMP supposedly sent an email notification to people who ordered the album but I never got it. I found out via Reddit. At the end of the day, the record does sound great.
I've been really happy with my VMP purchases. The pressings have all been excellent (particularly _Blonde on Blonde, Monk's Music,_ and Patsy Cline's _Showcase),_ And I've had the opportunity to discover some great albums by artists I was completely unfamiliar with, most notably Black Nasty, whose _Talking to the People_ I hugely recommend checking out. As for the re-sealable sleeves, mine have all held up beautifully, even with the heavy duty tip-on gatefold album covers. And the single monthly selections are shipped in a whiplash mailer, so corner dings and such haven't been an issue. Are they expensive? Yeah, sure. But in my personal experience, they've all been well worth it. Love to hear a follow-up on what you think of the pressings!
I’m definitely enjoying these releases so far! The only issue I’ve noticed is STP No. 4 is a little noisy on the first track in each side. I think the MOV pressing sounds better.
I'm loving Vinyl Me Please so far, have gotten some pretty kickass albums so far and the art prints are always cool to get too, certain releases have drink recipes on the inside of the obi strip which is pretty cool
This was a good time for this video to show up. There is a 40% discount code out there for purchases (not subscription fees) and I'm really wanting to get that Miles Davis The Electric Years box set. Even after a 1-month sub for $46 (which includes an LP of course) that box is a really good deal since it has 11 LP's in it and apparently mastered from AAA sources. Still debating...
@@TheVinylDen I already have pressings of all of those except Up With It, but they are a mix of Music On Vinyl and some OG, but I think this might be the way to get a set of consistent versions. Maybe unload my other ones.
very cool, but i go only for first press vinyls in my collection, don't know why but it ads that something extra to it, checking out vmp, but bunch of albums ive got allready also, so dont know its worth it for me. Cool albums nevertheless
I really enjoy your videos. I can tell that you do them for the love of vinyl. I actually re-subscribed today to VMP today after taking about a year off. I joined for a year because I wanted the Rock Track. I had to get ZZ Top “Tres Hombres” and STP “No. 4”. Plus I hear Black Sabbath “Masters Of Reality” and Heart “Little Queen” are coming Q1 for Rock. I’m hoping they are AAA!
I’ve been debating it for the last year or so, and it was their rock track that finally convinced me to join. So far I’m pretty happy with their service. MOR is going to be an awesome release!
I definitely get that. The price is a big reason why I hadn’t signed up for their service in the past. With the 8 free albums though it works out to about $16 per album, so that’s how I justified the cost.
i love VMP, the only complaint I have is that I didn't realize they also sold non VMP exclusives, so I have bought the Prince Live box set and it was the same that you could by anywhere, and I inadvertly bought 2, and VMP would not let me return it. But, overall- no real complaints. I buy the yearly, I do not mind paying up front as it's cheaper, plus I just hit my renewal so I got my 8 free records.
I've been a member for three years with VMP. are the prices kida steep? Yes. But the package and sound quality are tough to beat. And the fact that if you don't like the selection you're getting that month, you can trade it for another or get credit to use later.
They do have a pretty nice selection of albums. I read yesterday that the January rock release is going to be Master of Reality by Black Sabbath. I’m pretty excited for that one!
VMP peaked a little too early in those earlier years. These last two years (at least with Essentials and Hip Hop) have been pretty meh and not at all worth their increasing prices. I thought it was just my own opinion, but seeing their comment sections and Reddit threads, it seems a lot of people feel the same. Shame because they’ve had some absolute GEMS in years’ past (Fiona Apple, OutKast, The Mars Volta come to mind)
I wasn’t a big fan of many of their releases over the last few years, and that’s what has really kept me from checking them out. I’ve been impressed with their new rock releases though. They have a Black Sabbath release coming in January.
I’ve had Essentials and Classics for a good number of years. I can’t remember how far back they go, but the early releases were always great. Every month I felt like I was excited to receive what was coming. The last six months, not so much. I’ve taken credits several times and I can’t really see anything coming I want to use them on. Some of the Classics have been absolute duds lately. I didn’t really want to, but it forced me to suspend those subscriptions. Even though I’m on annual and I’ll get records into December and January.
Blonde on Blonde is 'slightly overrated'...that made me laugh and shake my head- you have Funko Pops and a Batman soundtrack behind you bro. That is one of the most significant albums in music history, and also a musical masterpiece.
VMP is far too expensive for a Canadian, and not just about the exchange rate, but VMP charges more for Canadians vs what they charge for Americans, and then the exchange rate is added to the higher package cost, then they add shipping and so on. Far too expensive but those albums do look cool, Cheers
Was planning to subscribe because of the 8 bonus records and the new master of reality record by black sabbath. But almost all of their good stuff is not in stock so its gonna be a no for me.
For me a vmp membership would not be worth it to me as it's really expensive and most of their monthly releases and store drops aren't things that I'd be interested in owning. I'd have to love most of their monthly releases for me to want to spend $40 a month on a vmp membership.
Did VMP for about a year at the end of 2019-2020 on their Essentials track. Had a few that I was beyond stoked for; QOTSA, Stankonia, alt mix of Stooges S/T. There were definitely a few albums during that year that I don't think I would have bought otherwise but I'm glad I kept; Buena Vista Social Club, John Mayer, Jim Sullivan. BUT, for a premium service, I had to request quite a few replacements whether for scratched records or massive seam splits because their packaging has also been shoddy. After a year is about when the prices start going up above $30/month and the titles simply didn't interest me enough to try them for that price. I keep tabs on what they release but I've never regretted jumping ship.
Their prices are definitely steep! I read yesterday that the January rock release is going to be Master of Reality by Black Sabbath, so I’m excited for that one.
ALL VMP LPs are always less on the secondary market. I discovered this after being a member for a year. Most LPs I already had and didn't need a new version and traded it for cash. Meanwhile, I still have $200 in cash with VMP and can never find anything I want. Way too much weird Indie stuff for my taste! I thought about resubscribing because of the 8 free albums but I still didn't want anything.
