      I've been saying for years that the bar for entrance into pvp is way too high. I have been pking for a lot of years and it has been terrible watching it slowly die and become this twisted and hated part of the game. So many players don't even give it a chance because their only chance to experience pvp is by getting bodied by a good pker or skull tricked while skilling/bossing in the wild.

      @@JakePkz Most players' first experience with PvP is from being forced into it. For a diary task, a quest, skilling, whatever non-PvP reason they're being forced into Wildy. Obviously, it's not a pleasant first time.
      Then there's the inherent flaw of RNG. And maybe the other guy spent 500 million on his gear. And maybe he has a pure set up to take out your entire health bar in one tick while you can't even hit a 20 on him.
      PvP in Runescape is like an open lobby in a competitive FPS. A handful of tryhards are just stomping scrubs who never had a chance.

    • @therealdoc

      Sounds fun but it fundamentally can't work. This CSGO style gamemode will devolve into who killed the first player because MMORPGs are designed around the idea of you *taking damage*, where a game like CSGO isn't. Most of CSGOs weapons kill players in a half second or less which means there's comeback potential even if you're 1v5. In OSRS, you don't instantly kill people, which means you mathematically lose once you lose one player. This is exactly the reasons why 5v5s in WoW were removed.

    • @CocoCrabs1
      @CocoCrabs1 3 роки тому +1

      @@therealdoc Interesting point. However, since it's a proposed CTF game, you don't need to kill the other team to win. Just need to distract them long enough for the carrier to catch a gap and run free.

    If I were to add one thing to this, I think it would be that you could pick classes. I know that people believe tri-brid is the only way to go and proves true skill, which is fine and understandable, but that's kinda for 1v1. Would be cool to see teams of 5 made up of 2 rangers, 2 mages, and a melee. It could add a lot of strategy to target selection. If a person is praying mage, you could coordinate your 2 rangers and AGS / Dclaw meleer all to attack and one tick them. I think that the combat triangle in runescape is interesting to utilize more than just tri-brid by having actual roles.

    • @mynameismaitiu
      @mynameismaitiu 3 роки тому +6

      i like this a lot. i think BA is the only thing in the game that truly promotes this kind of teamwork and itd be dope to bring to PVP

    • @Sketchy--
      @Sketchy-- 3 роки тому +5

      But with the buy system akin to CS, wouldn't that choice be something you'd want to leave up to the team themselves? Target selection and team composition should be fluid as it is in CS. A team of 5 may play 1 MP5, 3 M4's, and an AWP with each player participating in their respective role with those weapons to develop team composition through the items bought and communication from the team. I feel this allows teams to have greater flexibility overall in which roles and style of play they can utilize to achieve a win.
      I'd argue balancing tri-brid from being the only form of style used would be though buy cost; ideally it would be a huge risk to stack 3 attack styles since the cost of the items in the shop would be high and dying on a round you went for a tri-brid buy would significantly hurt you the following round if not even the ones after. Kind of like a 2/3 AWP stack round when you're not really ahead in economy. However, I can see some games snowballing out of control if one team beings to gain enough of an economy lead which they can have multiple tri-brids. But, I'd argue back to the difficulty of tri-briding and having multiple people on your team which could effectively use the fighting style with all the item switches would be far and few between (unless you're talking professionals, but then we can look back at the first portion, buy cost. A professional team shouldn't be allowing such a economy lead). That coupled with 9 round side-switches, allowing the team that's behind to make a possible comeback.
      I suppose you could always just make it more original to CS; not allowing players to buy multiple combat style weapons at once just as you can't hold an AK and an AWP on the same character. Which would be more close to your role idea after all, but still allows players to have a more fluid and creative team composition as you wouldn't be limited to having a select amount of roles on your team. However, 2 rangers, 2 mages, 1 melee may end up being the meta but it would be neat to see teams that strayed from that meta and had the ability to run 3 mages 2 melee, or whatever have you.

    • @chIKItadiva
      @chIKItadiva 3 роки тому

      and the idea would also be suitable for rs3. I love the idea!

    • @fattlane1866
      @fattlane1866 3 роки тому +1

      Nah, nah, one of each role and two tribrids. That way each team can strategise which roles to target while the tribrids can flex between them to either help execute the strategy or defend against them. It would create even more strategy hinging on the combat triangle while also creating clutch opportunities for the tribrids to respond to or execute. Then you've got the big brain plays for your promotional highlight reels

    • @harrison298
      @harrison298 3 роки тому

      This is something I've talked about as well. The combat triangle is so central to RuneScape, but the ability to max everything devalues it.
      The solution in every other game that encourages specialization is to have a level cap. Like in League, you are limited to 6 items. So even though it would be nice on Shyvana, for instance, to have 400 AD, 800 AP, and a bunch of tank stats, that would require like 15 items. So it forces you to make interesting choices and strategize.
      Runescape PVP could accomplish this with a similar item cap, or it could transport you to another dimension or something where you have 200 points to spend on any levels that you choose. This would definitely encourage specialization.

    You could also have different combat level tiers. Like last man standing everyone is set to max combat level. You could have a rank for pures only, maxed accounts, zerker, ranged only, mage only, The list goes on. Also for rewards Jagex could use their art team (Which does a bang up job in my opinion). They could make sweet cosmetics as reward points which are not tradable. Imagine a golden fighter torso. Gold not your color? How about purple!?! Blue?!? The possibilities are damn near endless. Oda's tournament today, although kind of a "home rig" type of production, shows that esports can draw a lot of viewers. And keep fans genuinely interested. The guys competing were pretty unknown in terms of the general public, the only ones I even remember are 1013 because I heard about him before as being a top brid, and panic of course because he makes videos. And odas stream was steady at like 7-8k viewers. Imagine if jagex gave a shit and really dove into making the fan experience amazing. There is really no other possible esportable thing on runescape. Im not sure if the idea of a 4v4 ,16 round, half castle wars map is necessarily the best option, but they can do something pvp related and create a esport off of it, 100%, IF they create the right one.

    Hey, to expand on this (more specifically to stop smurfing and making fresh accounts) you can have the "promos" be a series of 9 fights against an advanced coded "training dummy" that attacks with different styles, prayer swaps, gear/weapon swaps, etc. The first 3 fights are simple just weapon switching with one style, the next 3 is swapping between 2 styles and the last 3 fights are tribridding. That would make it so good players start off their first rounds against better players while noobs would start lower in the bracket.

  • @charlonburnis9753

    I think a huge part is understanding. Even things we see as basic mechanics like tribridding all a random twitch viewer sees is someone switching weapons a bunch and it doesnt make sense or look as impressive. Using the shop idea (or a different idea) it would give viewers/commentators a second to explain core game mechanics that are vital that new players often miss. The strength bonus on a fighter torso or even the benefit of poison mechanics and a dds. Watching things like CSGO or LOL the mechanics are shown and make sense but OSRS is often a game of hidden numbers that can't be seen from just watching a fight. It's about the knowledge of the items the players are using.

    Awesome video. I think the biggest and most important point you made was at 13:15. This is not a money making method for your main, we don't need a reward shop. That would fix a lot of problems with other pvp areas of the game too. Imagine if bounty hunter was just something you did for fun, but had no tangible rewards outside of bounty hunter. There would be no incentive for gold farmers, boosters, and botters to get involved.

    To prevent teams from playing heavy defence in the flag room I think you need to have it using the old 1.6 charges scoring where only T sided or attacking sided rounds count. So you have a set half worth of rounds to be the aggressor and capture and a success is a point and a failure is nothing for either team.

      You could have end of season/tournament capes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and make one for each 'season '. In CS:GO they get trophies and world ranking which may shift around based on how they perform from tournament to tournament. Like Mouz, they came from like 16th to being ranked #2 in the world for a month or so, then they slowly slipped again.

    So I'm an OG classic player, and one of the original developers with private servers, helping create content that even Jagex hadn't come up with (last man standing) created this in a private server years before Jagex added it, or any BR games were a thing. Reason I am posting, is I saw the title of this video and thought i would come have a laugh at the idea of runescape being any kind of esport, we have tried many a things in the past with private server content, which made me believe a competitive experience would just not be possible, however I really like this idea, it could totally work if done right. A few years ago we started and gave up on a project of using old school and making a league of legends/dota type game, with 3 lanes, instead of towers, you would have an agro NPC to push past, objective being enter the enemy teams base and destroying it, actually was very possible to do, had fully clipped pathing for minion NPC's pushing down lanes, got too around 40% complete before running out of motivation.

    From a complete beginner's perspective, I think you'd need to have a good in-game explanation of the "invisible" systems of RS for something like this to get traction from beginners. What's 1-ticking? How do you do it? What's combo food? How long does a freeze/snare last and how do I tell? "What was that?" anytime a specc is used or a spell is cast, there needs to be a way to learn about it. It feels like a lot of systems in RS are impossible to learn and understand on your own.
    Counter Strike is really simple. There are guns you shoot with. If you hit, the opponent takes damage. Fire rate, reload time and spread are all easy to see when you play, unlike cooldowns in RS.

  • @iDragy
    @iDragy 3 роки тому

    this is interesting to see, i had a similar idea for rs3 but without shortening the map
    since it felt like a esport when small clans ruled castle wars and soul wars mid eoc era who had a actual good small amount of star players and strats like shield camping and intercept were pretty cool for team work in clans there, but seeing this in osrs would also be pretty cool only worry is that ice barrage might be too strong in such small teams

  • @TaggedByTim
    @TaggedByTim 3 роки тому +4

    I think runescape is too rng based for it to ever be an esport. Just the damage alone is enough for it to be incredibly luck based and that's something most Esports try and eliminate. Like how both cs:go and rainbow six siege have set recoil patterns no matter what.

  • @ArmanyteGX
    @ArmanyteGX 3 роки тому

    The major problem with adapting a CS:GO style game to OSRS is the Time to Kill. Unless you're rushing you can't 1-tap someone, which leads to long and drawn out fights that would make CS:GO's method of play last hours and would cause people to tune out. This would also mean there's no "Defuse" there's no alternate win condition for the defenders, they have to slice through 495 HP + Food to win. All attackers have to do is grab the flag. Competitive Castle Wars works because it's symmetrical and both teams have a chance to get that alternate win con.
    Small team competitive PVP, especially with no monetary rewards, is EXACTLY what needs to happen.

Towers that you would have to take out, goblin minions, maybe some random chest.There could be a dragon or a demon or something center of the map, in some lane. The rewards would be rng based and it would drop armor. It would be incentive to play as a different classes, strategize to try and get an edge over the other team.
