W100 - Авто та транспорт
In 1965 and 1967, my grandfather ordered a new car for factory pickup. He then enjoyed 6 weeks of European travel in each of those cars. We went to the Docks in Newark for US delivery. I was a 10 year old kid! I was so excited to see all of it. That's when I discovered the 600!
The Pullman legacy it will never be forgotten
Rebecca Wada It was my dream car when I was a kid. Unfortunately the sticker price was $34,000 , a huge sum back In the late '60's. Tried everything I could think of trying to come up with the cash!
Ironically, I DID have enough cash to buy THREE of them back in 1973. Unfortunately, common sense kicked in, and I decided it would be more prudent to invest in stocks and real estate. But to make a long story short, I could have bought that car back in the 70's, and sold it for $600,000 today!
Watching this time defying masterpiece in 2019.
An absolute masterpiece
It is indeed an excellent automobile in every way. The exterior design caught my eye at once. Then the interior just was superb.
WHO THE FUCK WOULD DISLIKE THIS?!
There's no doubt that German ingenuity is superb. My first automobile was the Mercedes Benz 220SL. Although used, it never gave me any problems. Even more impressive is the way the door closed, with just a slight touch of the finger, then click. It's closed. I once became irate at a passenger who felt it necessary to slam the door shut.
One superb classic that I would like to own
Regina Shanker one is Gosford classic car museum
(Mouth watering) I WANT ONE!!! FORGET THOSE MAYBACH S-CLASSES!!!
Harrison Farnsworth one here at Gosford car museum
Harrison Farnsworth In 1970 this car sold in America for $37,000 US! Today you can buy one at an auction for $600,000!
Fantástico . Uma obra prima dos alemães!
1963! A masterpiece of engineering
I saw one of these a year ago on the outskirts of Sydney - it must be the only one in Australia.
This car was so great is because they don't put costing at first. In modern era, building a car always considering the cost first. That's why there is no anymore great car anymore.
TALK ABOUT A RIDE, WOW FANTASTIC MACHINE
The legendary s600 pullman
Beautiful car!
classy 600 pullmann !!
The Mercedes 600 Pullman was and todate is the ultimate status symbol. A beloved for many African Presidents. The model was the official ride of the late President Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya and Daniel Moi after him. The car had presence no doubt. It must be horrendously expensive to restore.
tom lepski Not only African presidents! Nicolae Ceausescu of Romania had one too!
It seems to be very popular with dictators in general
Costin Pitulice idi Amin Dada of Uganda, Emeror Jean Bedel Bokassa of the Central African Republic, the greatest Muhhamad Ali, Elvis Presley, all owned the grosser at one time of their lives.
''We sold a lot of these cars to different uh governments'' I just love this comment. For those of you who don't know, what he actually means with ''different governments'' is totalitarian regimes. Kim Jong Il, Nicolae Ceaușescu, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein, Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, Gaddifi etc. etc. They all bought a car. When it was released, the 600 Grosser was as much a dictator's accessory as a gold plated AK-47. Sure Coco Chanel had one, but it doesn't quite tip the scale XD
Kristian Brandt It was literally "The Car of Kings, and the King of Cars!"
Gaddafi didn't own one
I seen on in australia at a dealership ,which was in the late 1970's massive car and yet these cars were made to last as well, but if something went wrong your in a world of hurt, especially with the hydraulic system. :) ,
I have ever seen best technologiest old car
Beautiful vehicle
So they started developing this pretty modern looking car in 1956? Damn
Neat video...thanks for posting!
i'm not interested in cars at all. but i love this old pullman!
especially since florian schneider (kraftwerk leader) had one
+CosmoCortney So did Idi Amin! These cars were favorites of some of the world's most notorious dictators, too!
You might be interested to know that kraftwerk means "powerplant". Most 600 owners actually had their own powerplants... quite often these plants produced more than just power.
...wir fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn!
I LOVE YOUR MERCEDES BENZ VIDEOS
MERCEDES BENZ THE BEST OR NOTHING
In the 1960's, we had a Silver Cloud 111 and the people down the road had a 600. I was teased at school (prep school) that the 600 was better than the Rolls. Maybe it was, but RR had the last laugh because when the Silver Shadow was introduced, a few year later, it sold like hotcakes (for a luxury car) from 1966 to 1981. Mercedes on the other hand made a huge loss with the 600.
Need to put one of these beside a Peel P50.
the Grosser Mercedes
If I'm not mistaken, Citroen was the first with a hydraulic suspension system which Rolls Royce stole from them and then Mercedes-Benz used the same idea. Nice that they hydraulics were so useful to everyone...Thank you Citroen.
Nothing was stolen, the license was paid
Yes! And it will last longer than the world!
The best limousine of all time .... the w100 is a true luxury automobile palace, like a Rolls Royce Phantom ....
Why did MERCEDES-BENZ abandon this philosophy? It was the real alternative to Royce ....MAYBACH does not manage to worry RR ...
This one reminds me of President Kenyatta and Moi’s Mercedes Benz.
that's great where is the fuse box
Of course, that would be nice to have them join us again, but they wouldn't be the same as the original version, so...
How come?
Give me a Reliant 3 wheeler any day.
I think Mercedes will do it again, now that they have ceased production of the Maybach.

600 had pneumatic suspension, not hydraulic.
I think they were confusing the actuation of the side windows and seat adjustment with the suspension type. The windows and seats used hydraulics.
MMWA Didn't Elvis have one too?
@@reggiekrager5411
Yes he did! 😎
former president of the philippines marcos has 4 six door mercedes.
This car's reputation was destroyed by Dictators and Corrupt Officials.
Modern-day Mercedes cars do suck, in comparison to that one ! Just my opinion, I know... I like that 1950s/60s feel that emanates from it ! (Yeah, I know it first came out in 1963; but according to me; the aesthetics from the early 1960s were still close to those of the late 1950s...right !)
+VintageSoundsNumber1 The "Merger" with Chrysler was sadly a move on Benz's part seemingly to cheapen their cars to better compete with the Japanese luxury brands. Lots more plastic, cheaper materials inside, making the car easier and cheaper to build while also making them not as durable or nice. Pretty sad really, the pre 2000 models seemed more like real Benz's, heavier and made to be serviced and last.

Yep ! it's a pretty good analysis; I do agree with your arguments... That's really what it is, about Mercedes from the early 2000s till today : it looks "cheap". The golden era of cars is behind, I guess...
VintageSoundsNumber1 Yeah, it's sad, but it's a race to the bottom when making luxury cars that are made to be leased rather than sold, then disposed of. At least MB is willing to sell parts for older cars and there's still a lot of good knowledge and information out there on them. Good older ones are still not hard to find, and they're worth putting in what it takes to get them right as, like they say, they don't make them like they used to.
One superb classic that I would like to own
