finally someone knows what they're talking about with this art style, well said and put on everything, your brush is very accurate! i'd only just thicken up the outlines a little more
the facing left thing is because the CSS needs to be consistent across everyone in the cast when you're selecting them in game, you'll notice all the shadows are consistently on the same side as well. this is different for the JP boxart though where he clearly just made more fun poses as a whole peice instead of individual illustrations
OK, my question is how the art-style translates to drawing backgrounds (especially the hard-shading/hard-lighting)? I barely saw any art of Hideaki Moriya other than character art, so I don't know if the "erase what's behind the shadow" thingy is the same philosophy when drawing backgrounds like buildings, racing tracks and such. I can already imagine that what behind a building would end up being completely obscured in the process and I don't want that.
