How many of these tankers are roadworthy ??? Most of the vehicles on Nigerian roads are disasters in waiting. In addition, most of the roads are death traps. Where are the standards ???
They initially asked for the copies but were pushed aside, and the presentation continued. How can you be defending a budget, and those you are presenting to, do not have copies of whatever you are reading.
I disagree with Falana. Bricks might encourage de-dolarisation of world economy but the de-dolarisation favor China who can dominate the world economy through her currency because the Chinese will always dominate in trade.
@ According to the history of Nigeria, our country was founded and sold to the British government by a company, and the British consequently colonized us, stole our resources and enabled them to be a strong trading force till now. My point is this: trading is a political and economical power that has replaced military might. Have you heard about sanctions and how America uses sanctions to fight an enemy which is why Bricks was created. China has learned from the Western powers how to tame Africa through uneven playing fields.
First, I want to say that any death is a tragedy, but I somewhat disagree with the chief. Yes, there is ignorance for a lot of things, but even those that we consider as poor and desperate must also bear some of the blame if they attempt to gather fuel or any flammable material that is involved in an accident or a tanker that turned over. How many times have we seen tankers overturned and people attempt to gather fuel and lose their lives because of an explosion. We have seen too many instances where this has occurred. SO, when people approach overturned tankers, they know the risk and must bear the responsibility of their actions. If they are trying to be good Samaritans and free the driver or others involved in the accident, that is one thing, but to knowingly loot the product and, in the process, lose their lives or are injured, is different. Their choice and unfortunately their lose. I do mourn with the loved ones left behind, but I disagree that there should be compensation for the looters!! Is the government absolved from the tragedy? No, they are stakeholders in this. I agree with the chief when he says that they should have provided security at the site. But let's be honest. The roads are bad, the police are either overwhelmed or are understaffed, and ill trained and paid. How are they to know about the accident and respond in a timely fashion? Do they have patrols on the major road ways. Do they have manned phones at the barracks and the man power to quickly respond. What about the fire departments and ambulance? Are they too available to be contacted quickly and be able to respond in kind? That is the problem. Trucks and all vehicles need to be road worthy and insured. Roads need to be plyable and not have to dodge potholes. Emergency personnel need to be staffed and respond accordingly, and people, regardless of status, must use their God-given common sense and stay away until the road is cleared. When a tanker is at the refineries, that is the first line of defense. The refineries need to check their documents for completeness. Insurance papers, etc. Maybe trucks need to be inspected once or twice a year for road worthiness. The refineries need to collect from the tankers an additional 500 to a 1000 naira, and those monies turned over to the government to be divided between the FG, State governments and local governments to be used to improve the roads and bolster the police and emergency responders. Maybe new roads like the lagos to calabar road should have toll booths every number of kilometers for those that use it to support not only the maintenance of the road, but for adequate constant policing and emergency personnel. Any excess beyond the operations should again be divided amongst the three levels of governments for other road improvements. I don't know if what I just said makes sense, put the status quo must change.
@@nickolowu9977 Please guys, stop defining the strength of a country through military power. Remember, the Germans lost the 2nd world war because of insufficient fuel( energy) to power their military hardware and America is powerful not because of military might but strong economy and dolarisation of the world order. The Chinese wouldn’t want to colonize Africa because it is expensive and unnecessary if they can submit Africans to buy Chinese products by force because of debts owed to China. Guys, sit back, study and pay attention to this world players as they strategize their future. Guys, pay attention to the trade imbalance of those Bricks countries relative to China.
Of course, you know that Mr. Falana is always Mr. know it all. He forgot that if America sees this BRICS as a threat to their economy, America will instantly render their economy useless through their foreign policies.
The Northern elites should unite and collaborate on solving insecurity. It can be done just like the South west elites came together to work with one another other to put security structures together to mitigate insecurity and the result was good. What the northern elites are always concerned about is power in order to enrich themselves. Take almajiri out of the streets. The fundamental impetus for insecurity in Nigeria is fueled by failure of the Northern Nigeria government not taken care of its children. Those children that have no education, no technical skills to survive in the Ai world are now fighting back, and they are very deadly. Wicked leaders. Charity begins from home.
Its Nigeria a civilised place sir ?. Sorry for the questions sir . See what our governors are doing. Even the police force.. they are still operating like we are still in the 80s. Its a shame

It's true the major fault is from the greedy masses, that value money more than their lifes. Logistics has been a major problem of petroleum transportation from one place to other for a long time in Nigeria. The trucks are damaging our roads by carrying over- weighed products on the roads and petroleum tankers will spill their fuel on the roads making the roads slippery and eventually cause accidents. Thereby causing lost of lifes and properties and damaging of infrastructures. I think the government need to take a decisive steps on trucks plying our roads and control all this ugly incidents. God bless our lovely country Nigeria.

Again, I really must disagree with the chief. I am not an economist, but to me, how can you talk about joining BRICS. I don't like to see the pain that nigeria is going thru right now, but to me, it's like he wants nigeria to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. Now you want to tie yourself to the brick organization?? What effect will that now have on the naira? What new measures and pains will nigeria now have to go thru? In that organization, there will be a dominant currency, so why not continue trying to strengthen the naira in a system that you know and not take the nigerian people in a system that you don't know. Give the Bricks some years to prove that their system works before you join. I am sure that those who started the organization did it out of their own national interest. So should nigeria act in their own interest, but if we continue to have national electrical grid issues, bad roads, security not only with terrorists but state and local security, we will have a weak barganing position eventually in BRICS. Going into BRICS, we still have the same issues. Are we going to mortgage our future to them? We have the largest economy in Africa. We have the largest population. We have highly skilled people!! Let's start using our homegrown assets and hire them for large projects. Improve our security so that farmers can do farming and increase products for local consumption and export. Stabilize electricity so that we can encourage investment in manufacturing. Improve security and roads and again encourage investments. Liberalize the investment laws, some to encourage investors of all levels to create jobs. Lastly, improve medical access and all levels of education for all nigerians. You have nigerians in the diaspora and African-Americans who love nigeria and want to build homes and become dual citizens, therefore creating jobs locally. You have to be open minded and creative!!!
Falana can be illogical and objective sometimes. His activist mindset often reflect in his views with everything that involves government. If a vehicle transporting 50 lions breakdown and the lions are out of the vehicle, will anyone remain in 1 km radius of that location? But when a tanker falls our people will go there to steal fuel, then will have this mass suicide. The SAN should focus on educating the citizens on the absolute need not to put yourself in dangerous situation. Nigeria is a big country, there are locations in some states that will take 3 hours to get to from the state capital .
We don’t do thorough investigations to understand the immediate, remote and root causes of incidents. That is why these incidents keep reoccurring. In the United States, the Department of Transportation has legislation and rules for transportation of dangerous goods. We need something similar.
@@josephfofana2996 Maybe the government will have to educate the citizens to brush their teeth in the morning, remember to eat daily and wear clothes too, since you believe that the Nigeria people doesn't have the natural survival instinct of all living things, which is run from all threat to your life. Despite the government providing pry and secondary education for almost free.
First of the way Emergency Management Agency is responsible for all disasters within the country, therefore they maintain offices on the state levels. The Agency and the police should be the first responders in any accident and this is always not the case in Nigeria. I have seen tankers carrying palm oil in an accident in Nigeria and instead of the police being on the scene, you see citizen collecting oil with buckets. During the Dana Airlines crash in Lagos some years ago, the scene was also crowded with citizen on the scene looking for what items they could collect from the scene, also they made the streets not accessible for the emergency vehicles to arrive at the scene. We can blame the government for everything all the time but not the citizens for the common sense they should have to not rush to any disaster or accident scene. Perhaps people were rushing to this accident scene to see what they can collect which is dumb. The liability for the accident begins with the company that operate the tanker business even if contracted by the government. Such an operation should have full accident and liability insurance coverage. I am not a lawyer, if the tanker is operated by a private company, it would be difficult to hold the government responsible for the deaths. The government can support all the family of the victims as it is done in developed nations. The government can only be held reliable if there is evidence linking them to the cause of explosion and not necessarily on what they failed to do immediately the explosion occurred. Under normal circumstance the citizens should have immediately left the scene if Nigerians have not formed the bad habit of running to accidents scene. May the souls of those who died on this incident rest in perfect peace. My condolences go to the family that lost their love ones. Let of orientations need to take place to educate the masses on what to do when accident and disaster occur. Citizens must not be seen at the scene unless called as witnesses.
Mr Falana can shout from now till eternity nothing will change. Where's Mr Gani Fawehinmi and Bola Ige today, they both believe Nigeria will work and it's over 20yrs Nigerian government killed Bola Ige things are getting worse. Of course, Mr Falana knew Nigeria won't work and he doesn't care as that was how he made his money
Baba Falana is now highly politicised. Even in US, this tragedy occured and some of these insurance denied compensation. Baba be truthful, if tanker falls and these criminals never moved to the scene and allow security agents to take control, this tragedy would have been averted. Baba Falana is out there to critize government blindly. We see this when BOBRISKY allegedy stated Baba Falana and his son collected money from him. Baba, if you can do better, go to Ekiti and obtain form to contest governorship as u did before and u fail. Baba has now been policised and its disgraceful.
It is importsnt that we always listen and comment from thr position of open mind and thr desire to learn and not just criticize and oppose for thr sake of opposing , but from the point of fact and love for the nation , assumption they say is thr lowest form of intellectual display , thr government sole duty and right is to protect lives and properties , the federal govt already set out agencies to deal with our multiple problems but the agency have only been reduced to salary , wages and money stealing agencies and this agencies get allocations from government meaning they are paid by me and you but do nothing , it is by this doing government need to reform this agencies so they can give the services they ought to provide , if accident happens for example , u and I can’t do anything cos we are not empowered to do so, it is thr job of any agency involved , if this agencies are underfunded , then it is time to fund them right and track their service delivery . Nigeria need to start working as a matter of urgency, Taiwan , china and the Dubai arose through leadership intentional desire to lead right
The president has NO BUSINESS in setting up a committee on everything thing. Enough of the politics. We have Road Safety Marshall who should do their jobs without bribery. If the laws are inadequate in road use, update them. Our rails ought to do most of this fuel transportation. We should have pipelines to these places, especially depots. We have simply refused to do the needful in this country 😢.

Nigeria need to start working as a matter of urgency, Taiwan , china and the Dubai arose through leadership intentional desire to lead right
It's not by shouting like mad man
Since tinubu came in, u have gone mute
The president has NO BUSINESS in setting up a committee on everything thing.
Enough of the politics.
We have Road Safety Marshall who should do their jobs without bribery.
If the laws are inadequate in road use, update them.
Our rails ought to do most of this fuel transportation.
We should have pipelines to these places, especially depots.
We have simply refused to do the needful in this country 😢.
