      if you're referring to the OGs I agree 100%, the NG's aren't even on the same planet with half the auto makers out there. The NGs (2003 and up) are basically same Chevys, Pontiacs, Opels, Caddys + Turbo, all mushed together and powered by Chevy Ecotech motors. That's basically it.

      @banpowel9784 6 років тому +4

      Bartek X the first one is better built, but buy the 2000-2002 as there the best years, the 2003/4 the newer one are not so great as they suffer numerous issues such as suspension creaks, very bad dashboard rattles etc.......plus I like the looks of the 1998-2002

      Ben Powe - it is said that the materials in Saab 9-3 II are quite average. Besides it is similar to Cadillac BLS. If I were to buy a Saab 9-3 I, I would only take one with a manual transmission, because it’s 5 speed.

      Bartek X saab 9-3 1 is brilliant in manual and turbo form, but the one to try and source is the 9.3 viggen as its Awesome........

      yes, 20 years ago they were ahead but after GM took over in 2002 Saab went downhill really fast. From #1 in reliability in the 90s to worst of the worst in 2008 (per consumer reports)

    I wish you were in UK and could sort out paint faults on my two saabs. I've got a 2000 grey 9-3se 5 speed manual convertible with 56000 miles for may to October and wonderful 2002 midnight blue 9-5 arc auto saloon with 112000 which I use November to April. Both mechanically good, but lots of chips and scrapes in paintwork from previous owners I dare not tackle. Both cars are worth so little over here now, I can't afford paint shop. Still love them both though and get great pleasure from them, plus I know they will get me there and back unlike most old cars. They are saabs number 6 and 7 for me. I've been driving 2nd hand saabs for 35 years!

    I guess when I mentioned my OG 03 you already knew about the winter mode lol. Anyway, have you ever dealt with stereo issues in this model? Mine sat for a few years after the radiator blew, and after some shotty garage "fixed" it, and apparently attempted to fix the NSS, I only seem to have bass in my front speakers, but they will come on randomly lol. I've checked the amp, my now (saab) mechanic checked speakers and def ruled out amp. So it's a wiring issue, anything common you know to check? Or videos to watch? Thanks!!

      Many often confuse SAAB's Direct Ignition with today's Direct Injection, which you don't want unless it's the Toyota system that combines Port Injection with Direct Injection, allowing the gas to be sprayed on the valves.

    Hi,
    I was wondering about my Saab 1989 900 E Turbo Convertible. I took it to a mech we frequent here in Florida, and he had it forever! I was sick in the hospital, so I could not drive so he had it over at least 9 months. When I called the lady at the shop said that the owner of the shop said he could sell me another car cheap, and he would just keep mine. Is there something I should know that he knows and I don't about that yr./make/and model? It just seemed fishy to me. I am a .58 yr. old woman, and I love my Saab Convertible! It is white with a brand new top that works perfect. Any thoughts on this? PS I enjoyed your video.😎

    • @KylePancis
      @KylePancis  6 років тому +1

      I would definitely dive deeper into why he kept it. How many miles did you have? AND I hope you did not go through with this. The 1989 900E COnvertibles in a turbo are becoming very rare and are SHOOTING UP in value! He might be taking advantage of you! Please seek legal guidance on this.

I just thought something was fishy, I love my Saab no matter how much it is worth or not, they are the so fun to drive, and I will be happy to have it back. Thank's for replying to me.🍀 Mary. Not sure why it doesn't have much torque. 207ft-lb is pretty decent for a 205HP engine, and it's there at 2200rpm. Nothing compared to a 9000 Aero, which has 258ft-lb at 1800 or 1900 rpm.

    Direct injection is one of the top 10 failures in a Saab. All because it is one of few that mates all ignition together, so when one fails, all fail. Also, the computer mated to near everything makes it stupidly hard to do anything aftermarket, including a simple thing like lights. It is a nice car though.

    • @KylePancis
      @KylePancis  6 років тому

      very true! I have gotten 110K miles out of a coil pack and 13K miles out of a Chinese aftermarket unit. Best thing you can do to avoid this failure is to spend the extra money and get a genuine saab coil pack!

      It is honestly not that big of a headache as many people put it and there are many advantages to such a design, which is why Saab started implementing it in the late 80s and why many other manufacturers do so now. Read more about the advantages here: mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/41618/what-are-the-benefits-of-direct-ignition-coil-on-plug-system
      As far as reliability goes, on a normal car, your engine stops running when the central distributor or ignition coil breaks down. With Saab, when one coil breaks, the four-pot engine will continue running on three cylindres and you'll make it home or to your garage. We've had it ourselves and instead of leaving us stranded at night, the car brought us home.
      Replacing a DI-casette is also easy as can be. Just bring one on longer trips if you are out somewhere without Saab garages nearby.

      @@KylePancis Hey! So ends up the 9³ is in great condition, it just has a few things: drivers side heated seat doesn't work, power mirrors and trunk release button, the jalousie (shifter blind) is missing, I noticed yours has wood on the dash- mine has real carbon fiber, the plastic cover on top is all cracked. Did you replace yours with wood? On the window sticker it shows carbon fiber trim part of the sport package like yours. The biggest issue related to anything mechanical is the way the shifter (automatic) moves its like the notches are weird it doesn't click each gear when moving thru prnd321 it also can wiggle back and forth when its in a gear like drive. From what I have read it sounds like a bushing needs to be replaced. But some weird things- there is a dead space in gas pedal like an inch or two, once you move past dead space it works like normal. Is that normal on Saabs or something that needs adjusting? Also the brakes are super spongy, it stops just fine you just have to really get in it for it to stop- do you know why it would be so mushy? Everything else is great, the engine is amazing how smooth it is (and peppy!) And luckily all of the rubber hoses are nice and supple. There are just a few scratches here and there minor curb rashes on two of the wheels and the leather is worn on only the edges of the bolsters of those awesome sport seats love those big bolsters, the back seats look and feel brand new, wish those front seats looked the same! I'm happy to find your channel!

I think about 171 k still going strong. I have all the maintenance records. Feed it premium gas and synthetic oil. Gets 34mpg going steady at 65-70mph.

      I blew the gearbox in the only one I ever had (96 900 Turbo). On the other hand, the syncros were already bad when I got it for free in the first place. Nevertheless, Saauxhalls aren't really known to be as dependable as they were when Saab really was Saab, as its own company.
