Amazing blooms, interesting route, great scenery, crazy bugs, and irritating gnats! Thanks for another great VLOG. I appreciate all the time you put into the videos, the planning, the research, the ups and downs, the adventure, and most of all sharing with your viewers! Thank you so much. 😁✌️
Thanks! Yeah, I talk more about it in episode 11, but it was odd how the bugs got bad all of sudden on this hike. Thanks for the appreciation -- it's a challenge at time finding the balance of sharing too little vs too much. And thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Thanks! Yeah, the ledges are impressive, but I'm also to be VERY careful when I'm anywhere close to the edge. The camera does make it look worse than it really is at times. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Second time through this and congrats finding the route you had hoped to find. Gnats, who'd have thought. Great flowers and views, and seeing Page, Az at night. These extended videos get my upvote! They are what I like about what you do, I'm for seeing as much of the land as you can show. I hope someone in the decades ahead have all of them, these all need long range preserving.
Yeah, but as I tell her it really isn't as bad as the camera makes it look! And the flowers really were one of the highlights of this hike for me. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Another great, if tough route, and the views from that ridgeline were stunning. I've seen such desert bloom before, but in Arizona. Oh, how I miss the Southwest, living in England. My age will prevent me from returning to your wonderful, warm, dry regions.
Thanks! This was definitely not as "dry" as many recent years, but maybe still drier than England! The rain definitely helped produce all the flowers. Thanks again for watching and sharing your experience. 🌞✌
Thanks! Yeah, this was easily the best bloom I've ever seen. As I mentioned I've seen Rogers "green-ish" before, but nothing like it was on this hike. Thanks again for watching! 🌞
Thanks -- it really was. I regret not saying it on camera, but there were ZERO other footprints there! I know I'm not the first one to visit this location, but it must be so rarely visited that the wind has time to erase the prints in between guests -- which is pretty cool. Thanks for watching and the comment. ✌
Thanks! Yeah, 2023 was quite the year for flowers. I thought I was just in the right place at the right time, but I guess it was quite widespread. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Thanks! Yeah, I almost cut that bit out, but thought it was interesting and might get some additional feedback about it. Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
I always seem to encounter gnats or biting/deer flies the closer to summer it gets in Utah. It helps to wear a baseball cap under the bug netting to keep it off of your face. Last year and this year were good ones for finding water and wildflowers. Loved the ridge hiking and especially the rock art!
I hadn't thought about that -- but this hike was several weeks later than my typical schedule and thus encroaching on summer. The deer flies become a problem in the next episode. 👎 Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞
Excellent views on those ridgelines. What is tough to believe is how close some of those landmarks appear, and they aren’t. The air quality looks pretty good!
Thanks! Yeah, the views were great and the line-of-sight was really impressive up there on top. Air quality is pretty good in the area except when the wind kicks up and stirs up a bunch of dust. Thanks for watching! 🌞
Thanks! Yes, in hindsight I'm so glad I decided to go back up to the top and camp -- otherwise I would have never seen Page in the distance. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Another great episode. Making it to the safety of the beautiful green wash after the (apparent) sketchiness of the ridge it a great little story. I was nervous just watching, so I hope your mom takes it okay. I'm sure the camera adds a little drama, but I could feel it!
Yep, she's OK as I do always assure her that the camera makes it look much worse than it really is (which is really true.) Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Fantastic videos of the seldom seen 50 mile mtn wilderness. Been waiting to see how your alt route would work out, glad it worked out! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Yep, I was REALLY happy that that route worked out. The rock layers/cliffs in the area are hiker friendly for the most part, but just chunky enough to present challenges here and there. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Jamal, I hope you now check carefully that your camera is well attached to your stick so you don't lose another one!!! Maybe there is another hiker collecting camera instead of birthday balloons!!!
Yeah -- I gotta admit though I'm not that brave (or foolish) and the camera really does make it look worse than it is in reality! In hindsight though I did notice more "cracks" in the rock that I didn't see when I was there. 😬 Thanks again for watching. 🌞✌
Thanks! I'm not sure -- but it is definitely a clay/shale formation that is or similar to bentonite. Could also be Tropic shale. At some point I need to find a good reference for the various rock layers in this area. Cheers! 🌞✌
Thanks! TBD re a Sierra trip -- looking at some options for later this summer, but I definitely need to up my mosquito game first! Thanks again for watching! 🌞✌
@@Acrossutah LOL, the mosquitos are strong for sure. But usually the later you go the less they become. Deet and a fancy head net are highly recommended and of course layers.
Thanks! And yes I later found out that it was a Desert Trumpet. The following page on the Capitol Reef website talk about them. Thanks again for watching and question! 🌞✌ www.nps.gov/care/learn/nature/wildflowers.htm
Really -- they are that bad? I've only been out there once and it was late in the year so I don't remember any problem at all. For this hike luckily it was only for a relatively short stretch where they were ferocious. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Wow! What a great section! Way to keep it fresh. The Super Blooms make this entire trip special. Thank you Jamal!
I agree -- the blooms were one of this highlights of this hike for me. Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌

Beautiful color contrasts between the rock formations and the superbloom. Great find on the pictographs in the cave. Stay safe on those ledges!✌️

Your mom is right. And what a great flower year. Holy cow. Thanks for taking us along.

Awesome video series!!! I never seen such a bloom you saw in Rogers Canyon. Beautiful!!!
Thanks! Yeah, this was easily the best bloom I've ever seen. As I mentioned I've seen Rogers "green-ish" before, but nothing like it was on this hike. Thanks again for watching! 🌞
That cave was incredible. What a special place to find.
Thanks -- it really was. I regret not saying it on camera, but there were ZERO other footprints there! Always waiting for the next...never disappointed, thanks! I was in Happy Canyon in late May 2023 and saw the same "superbloom".
Thanks! Yeah, 2023 was quite the year for flowers. I thought I was just in the right place at the right time, but I guess it was quite widespread. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Thanks for sharing Jamal, beautiful scenery as usual!
Thank YOU for watching... and the comment! 🌞✌
another nice hike, love being up on the ridge for a change, thanks for sharing...
Thanks! Yes, it was a nice change of scenery from earlier in this hike. Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
great episode/ cool adventure finding the route and i agree with your theory about the rain worn rock./ so many beautiful scenes thanks for sharing

The camping spot on top of the ridge had a awesome view. Another great video!

Another uniqe places, respect for you from Czech Republic. Hi Jamal
Thanks! I appreciate you for watching and the comment... all the way from the Czech Republic. 🌞✌

Very challenging. Your mom probably wasn’t happy seeing you at the edge of the cliff. 😃😃
You are correct -- though I gave her a preview and insisted it really wasn't as bad as it looked on camera. 😉 Thanks for watching and the comment. ✌
Jamal, I hope you now check carefully that your camera is well attached to your stick so you don't lose another one!!! Maybe there is another hiker collecting camera instead of birthday balloons!!!
That ledge shot made my stomach go WTH!
Yeah -- I gotta admit though I'm not that brave (or foolish) and the camera really does make it look worse than it is in reality! In hindsight though I did notice more "cracks" in the rock that I didn't see when I was there. 😬 Thanks again for watching. 🌞✌
Oh those gnats are the worst. I'm usually envious, but not when I see gnats. Thanks for another great video.
Yeah -- luckily it wasn't for the entire hike, but for this stretch they were especially bad. Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Awesome trail Jamal. The grey rocks at 23:20, is that bentonite?
Thanks! I'm not sure -- but it is definitely a clay/shale formation that is or similar to bentonite. Could also be Tropic shale. At some point I need to find a good reference for the various rock layers in this area. Cheers! 🌞✌
The views from the ledge were stunning, Thanks for sharing. Btw, another Sierra trip planned soon?

Do you know or did you find out the name of those flowers on the hills? It looked incredible. Great route up on the ridge and the views were awesome!

I’m nervous and I’m not even your mom! 😆
Haha -- as I always tell her, it really was NOT as bad as the camera makes it look. 😉✌ Thanks again for watching and the comment.
25:16 obviously you have never been to Antelope Island in the spring.
