This game needs more praise. Some people don't really like the game. I get the horrible animations in cutscense, but I mean the game over all plays really good. The voice acting is great. This game deserves a lot more.
Obviously you've never played it. The original version would always crash, the controls were awful, the animations and collectibles counter looked like they were from flash games. This game was just bad, that's why this didn't get remade and battle for bikini bottom did
I personally think this game still holds up. It's a pretty solid 3D platformer collect- a -thon. Like Battle of Bikini Bottom, but on a slightly bigger scale. The only real issue there is that the music constantly repeat's after every little thing.
This game will have a place in my heart mostly because of the story behind it’s development. It’s easy to look at this compared to other SpongeBob video games and laugh (Even with that I think it’s a solid and fun experience) but the people at Big Sky had such big heart and especially love for the IP against such rough conditions.
I truly loved this game as a kid lmao. So sad to see everyone hate it, even in a nostalgic sense. The game constantly crashing was part of the fun lol. We’re you even a 90’s kid if you didn’t worry about losing your save files?
I'd pay plenty if we could see the four big Spongebob platformers all get remastered and released as a set. Battle for Bikini Bottom, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, The Movie (though an overhaul would be recommended for that one) and Creature From The Krusty Krab? Yes please!
I don’t know about y’all, but something about the narrator is just kinda eerie to me. Like- he’s just there? It’s gives off the vibes that it’s all in spongebob’s head and he’s just constantly talking to himself and hearing voices 😭 This game feels cursed in general like it’s some sort of creepypasta
If this game ever gets remade, I hope it'll be designed in a way where many people will appreciate it a lot more (and I really mean, tons of more appreciation since Revenge of the Flying Dutchman did receive a lot of spreaded worldwide hate)
I remember this game very well. It brings back so many memories. The Nostalgia. I got this game back in 2002 for Christmas. I don't have this game any more. I haven't played it in many years. This was the first game I played on the PS2.
The last movement of the eyes is probably where the animation ends, and older games like this often warped the skeleton of the model back to the starting position. So the eyes switching balls most likely is due to the game not being able to move those eye bones on the model in one shift.
You know Spongebob does more than just gurgle in his bathroom, right? XD He also flushes and goes "Ah...", whistled in the shower, makes weird noises, and belches. 🤣 Also, when he just stands there in the Mermaid Man costume, he just giggles like crazy and sometimes says "By the power of Neptune...!" This game is so uncanny, the floaty animation, the non existent pacing of dialogue, spongebob's eye movements, the music cutting when any dialogue is spoken and the completely random Narrator that gives you tutorials that doesn't sound like any one in the show (I can only imagine he's trying to emulate the time card guy by the accent but I'm not sure)

This game was just bad, that's why this didn't get remade and battle for bikini bottom did
They got Mr. Krab's voice actor for this game though, which is nice
The crashes were on the PS2 not the GameCube
I personally think this game still holds up. It's a pretty solid 3D platformer collect- a -thon. Like Battle of Bikini Bottom, but on a slightly bigger scale. The only real issue there is that the music constantly repeat's after every little thing.
Isn't that the case for every classic SpongeBob game?
This game will have a place in my heart mostly because of the story behind it’s development. It’s easy to look at this compared to other SpongeBob video games and laugh (Even with that I think it’s a solid and fun experience) but the people at Big Sky had such big heart and especially love for the IP against such rough conditions.
This may sound weird, but I think this game, along with the spongebob movie game, deserves a remaster/remake.
That doesn’t sound weird.
Man I’d love a remaster of this!
Same 😊
This and Twinsanity, Both Conplete with almost all missing content restored and Buetifully remade
The more and more they say booty, the more and more it sounds like their not talking about money

I like how this isn't like a boss or a buffed version of the enemy, no
You hit him once and he dies
Peak gaming
It's hard to believe that battle for bikini Bottom came after this. Also why does the flying Dutchman have the best model in the entire game.
Flying Dutchman literally tries to murder Spongebob with a ship. *pleasant music begins to play
I remember intentionally letting Squidward win the race to the Krusty Krab just to see what would happen.
Well, what happened?
Idk why people are calling this game trash other than the failed ps2 port, I really like the open world gameplay
It's boring compared to battle for bikini bottom
@@ryry8533 thats exactly why it gets hate is because people always compare all the SpongeBob gakes to battle for bikini bottom
@@beiberisgay4240 cuz it's the only good one.
@@ryry8533 have you ever played the other spongbob games like I mean all of them??
@@beiberisgay4240 I've seen all them they look boring af.
You ever just think about how this game was released within weeks of Ratchet and Clank?
This had to have been in development before.
The few logs that exist in the uncompiled source code on tcrf to me at least suggest it
Zach7551 it’s just really funny to me. Like ik a spongebob game won’t have that level of graphics but this game just looks so awkward
I loved this game so much. Played it over and over many times. I remember always wearing the Mermaid Man costume because it was so awesome!!
I truly loved this game as a kid lmao. So sad to see everyone hate it, even in a nostalgic sense. The game constantly crashing was part of the fun lol. We’re you even a 90’s kid if you didn’t worry about losing your save files?
Seriously lol gamer kids today are sooooo spoiled
I love the way the music loops every time SpongeBob says something.
this game needs to get rehydrated too
Joshua Amador-Coppin lol
thadam true
I'd pay plenty if we could see the four big Spongebob platformers all get remastered and released as a set.
Battle for Bikini Bottom, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, The Movie (though an overhaul would be recommended for that one) and Creature From The Krusty Krab?
Yes please!
@Rocco
I'd fight ya on that one. Good game, but it's got no real variety and no Sandy!
The movie videogame needs to be rehydrated before this
I don’t know about y’all, but something about the narrator is just kinda eerie to me.

I don't think it's bad, just bizarre
I remember this game very well. It brings back so many memories. The Nostalgia. I got this game back in 2002 for Christmas. I don't have this game any more. I haven't played it in many years. This was the first game I played on the PS2.
What is this music!- WHAT IS THAT NARRATOR VOICE!!!!!
1:07:15 why is sponegbobs eyes switching balls
It’s supposed to be funny, but I can see that annoying other people
The last movement of the eyes is probably where the animation ends, and older games like this often warped the skeleton of the model back to the starting position. So the eyes switching balls most likely is due to the game not being able to move those eye bones on the model in one shift.
wheres his helmet
Ball 😏
They should remake this on the BFBB engine.
Aaaand Remake it the way it was before it got rushed
I never played Battle for Bikini Bottom as a kid. But this was the only spongebob game I had.
Id love a remaster of this one!
You know Spongebob does more than just gurgle in his bathroom, right? XD He also flushes and goes "Ah...", whistled in the shower, makes weird noises, and belches. 🤣 Also, when he just stands there in the Mermaid Man costume, he just giggles like crazy and sometimes says "By the power of Neptune...!" XD
THE NOSTALGIA, MY CHILDHOOD 🥺 they don’t make games like this anymore.
Ngl the high rise apartments and chum world were my favorite levels when I was playing this on the Gamecube
Jellyfish fields and Goo Lagoon were alright
Same. I loveddddd downtown
brought back so many childhood memories
Why does this game have so much hate? It looks fun
The PS2 version of this game is broken.
It has a glitch that makes the game freeze when loading.
UndeadFrankie I have a GameCube, would it work?
@@weasel4674 It should be fine, the problem I was talking about mostly happens on PS2
UndeadFrankie okay thanks
it aged horribly
Sponge bob used a NET to slow fall... how does that... I mean... idk
Well, he is underwater.
It caught air, wind resistance making him fall slower (like a parachute). It doesn't make a lot of sense but, y'know, it's SpongeBob.
Hey Cocksucker maybe don’t watch the video then
OMFG THE NOSTALGIA HOLY SH*T

Will you let me use your cannon if i bring you some fresh booty?
Childhood memories... Also, how did this game get the REAL Mr.Krabs but Battle for Bikini Bottom didn't?
He didn't get paid
I'd like to believe that"should I get a hammer" should be a meme cause the the robots in BFBB in jelly fish field are like some sort of reference but actual hams
Damn, whoever recorded this, Is a coin Collecting Master
It was a long time ago, but if I remember correctly there is a different cutscene if you let squidward beat you to the krusty crab.
Yeah, there was. I don't remember what Squidward said, but Spongebob was, like, begging to not be fired or something?
I never got past the jelly fish field as a kid.. thank you for helping me see what happens neck
This is game brings back childhood memories lol.
Why does frenchie sound creepy? He's voiced by Tom kenny, the one who voiced spongebob
There's no way it's Kenny in this game
This game out of all the other sponge bob games I’ve ever played, this is an absolute gem

In case you're reading, please tell your mom about Battle for Bikini Bottom. She'll fall in love with that game too.

I wonder what Stephen thought of this game.

OMG this is it! My parents bought me some SpongeBob games before they divorced and the last one I played was SpongeBob Squarepants The Movie. This one in particular frightened me a bit because SpongeBob was riding on top of this Giant JellyFish 😂

I did not know that meant that he would be back after the level was finished. After I waited for 2 hours, I left my gamecube on and came back the next day.... he still wasn't there.
Hate that this game gets as much hate as it does. I loved it and still do!!
Probably one of the most underrated games I've ever played
agreed
This game was always very creepy and weird but amazing at the same time
Graphics really aren't that bad for a 2002 game, reminds me of Rayman Hoodlum Havoc
London Jackson You're smoking something different if you think a PS1 could run this. Maybe an early PS2 game (which is what it was for me)
London Jackson never used the dreamcast so I couldn't say but it was a decent game
The graphics are absolutely shit when you compare it to literally everything else that was on the console at the time.
15:37 nobody:
spongebob after getting all letter tiles: *spins at high speed*
This dude voicing the narrator sounds like he's doing ASMR with his mouth *directly* on the mic, it's so weirdly bassy and sensual.
Thank god I got the GBA version, this looks like an Alpha version of Battle for Bikini Bottom
Yes and I thought this one was bbfb Bc this was the one I loved the most when I was little and I was so confused when I got rehydrated Bc i was missing the Krabby patty delivery
This game is so uncanny, the floaty animation, the non existent pacing of dialogue, spongebob's eye movements, the music cutting when any dialogue is spoken and the completely random Narrator that gives you tutorials that doesn't sound like any one in the show (I can only imagine he's trying to emulate the time card guy by the accent but I'm not sure)
