Actually, AKB48 is the BIGGEST pop formation in the world. Some past live mass performances featured almost 200 girls on stage (divided over several platforms). Indeed, it is a huge thing in Japan!
this is such a surprising reaction!! not even 10 minutes ago i was organizing my akb48 cd collection!! omg to answer some questions: about the concept this is akb's 17th single released in 2010. ome of their most controversial singles. the woman that directed the video said she wanted to capture what akb are like in the dressing room when no one else is around; not to worry though, the girls were all fully on board with the concept. Japan is quite more liberal in the sense of sexuality in media from what I've seen. there's jokes on akb shows that would get kpop groups cancelled instantly. these girls are not allowed to date so a lot of the kissing in videos etc is usually done between 2 girls. the girls are very close with each other since they're kind of on their own once they make it onto the group. if you're not one of the lucky few who are pushed by management, you gotta work yourself up to the top tiers by your own accord about the 21 girl lineup: every year there is an akb election to decide the most popular member. the winner gets to center the next single. in this case, Yuko Oshima won the 2010 election and thus centered this, the 17th single. In the video you see the top 21 girls in the 48 franchise at the time. akb started in 2005 so you can imagine how important it is to find out the most popular one every year to keep the centers fresh for their growing audience. the latest winner of the election is Matsui Jurina who you see in the bathtub in this video (she was maybe 13 at the time so that was quite controversial) she centered the 53rd single last year titled Sentimental Train (Sakura from izone /hkt48 got 3rd place that election so she gets lots of screentime in that video too!) about the 48 franchise the 48 system is enormous with maybe 700+ girls in total spread around 5 groups in Japan (AKB, NMB, SKE, HKE, and NGT) and overseas 48 franchise groups in Thailand, Indonesia, the Phillipines, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam (plans are already in motion for a branch in India as well) these international groups basically translate akb songs into their native language. they have their own elections apart from the Japanese election so akb is basically spreading! let's hope we get an American one one day haha about the singing in unison: akb has a different definition of idol. you don't have to be good at singing or dancing, what they look for is stage presence and overall entertainment quality in order to get fans to support you. so with singing and dancing not being the top priority, the girls are easily swapped in and out if one decides to graduate and of course, this means that there being about maybe 150 girls per branch of 48 group, there naturally isn't a main vocal or a main dancer, so typically they get the 7 center girls to sing a line then the next 7 to sing another, and the other ones to sing another line, etc. akb is a stepping stone to get the girls' future careers as actresses or models started. akb is not the dream, it's just a platform for them to grow their fanbase before they head off on a different career path. now this is not to say the girls are bad at all, in fact they're quite amazing but they don't get training like in kpop. so you can imagine how hard these girls work to teach themselves enough akb songs for a concert! (there's 1,300+ songs in the 48 franchise all written by the same man I believe.) also be careful reacting to akb ): they have HEAVY copyright like it's insane. their discography isn't even available in the United States
The Group AKB48 also has their own Theater in Akihabara, Japan were they basically perform almost daily...also like some other people mentioned the girls are split into different groups. Also, they do Team Shuffles (Drafts) where they may change teams or even idol groups..for example Maeda Atsuko, she can get drafted from AKB48 to another group such as JKT48 (JaKarTa 48) or even to SKE48 (SaKaE48)...yes there are other groups that are part of the Aks system...they have one even in Bangkok and India!! Some rumored that they might make one in Mexico!!! BTW Maeda Atsuko was a Former member of AKB48
(Info on AKB48) This song is a bit older, but it's one of AKB48's most well known songs'! The group in general resides in Akihabara, Japan and the letters "AKB" stand for AKihaBara. The group itself is known for having the largest number of members in a musical act, at one time the group had about 200 members, but members graduate frequently so this number changes often. The number "48" stems from the group's original 48 member debut line up. The group debuted in 2005, and hit almost instant success! However, the group had been together before but they hadn't officially debuted and instead were more of a busking team. After their debut the group's management began holding weekly auditions for young hopefuls looking to join the ranks of the girls. And, this is where the large number of members comes in and the division into teams. With the large amount of members and trainees the management thought it would be a good idea to split AKB48 into teams consisting of different members. The number of members in each team varies, but there can be no more than 48 girls in one team (this rule may have changed). The members ages also vary from ages of 11-29, after 29 and really at 28 the members are forced to leave the group due to age agreement rules with the company. Thanks to this team set up it is possible to see AKB48 perform every day at their exclusive theatre in Japan, except instead of seeing the full 100+ members you get different teams performing famous AKB songs. The members chosen to be featured in music videos are different than the teams, often times members are plucked from each team to be the "Performing Group," and these members are the ones that are in MVs, TV Appearances, and so on. Fans get to vote for their fave members, and which ever girls get the most end up being chosen. Soon girls from all over Japan were leaving home to audition for AKB48, and the management began holding auditions for new sister groups in different location of Japan to accommodate the large number of trainees from different parts of Japan. And, from this the sister groups SDN48, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48, and STU48 debuted. These sister groups work the same way as AKB, but instead of performing in Akihabara, they perform in their home cities (except for STU48, they perform on a cruise ship that visits the cities closest to the ocean). Each sister group has experienced great success, and even rival the OG AKB48. SDN48, however; disbanded due to under popularity, this group differed from the rest due to their sexy adult concept which countered their sister groups' cute innocent concepts. However, this is not the end of the sister groups! AKB48's management began to see the vast number of international success the groups' were having and did the only logical thing. They decided to branch outside of Japan and began debuting international sister groups. JKT48 (Jakarta, Indonesia), MNL48 (Manila, Philippines), BNK48 (Bangkok, Thailand), SGO48 (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam), and AKB48 Team Shanghai and Taipei were born (their was once SNH48 which operated in Shanghai China, but this group announced their departure from AKB and work as their own independent group with their own set of sister groups). And, again these sister groups work the same way as their Japanese sister groups, except they perform songs made famous by their Japanese sister groups. These songs are translated to fit the specified langauages. The 48 Family is still growing with talks of new sister groups debuting in Mumbai India, Chiang Mai Thailand, and Beijing China. With the large number of members in each group it is very common to see members from each different Japanese group featured in music videos, and as apart of the "Performance Group." This again boils down to popularity. A big draw back with this group often stems from "Lolita," concepts and stalking of the girls. There have also been claims of bullying within the teams, underage overworking, and so on with the group. The rules with the group are also viewed as overbearing. One such rule is the "Virgin Rule," this rule states that in order to be a member of AKB and or their sister groups you must be virgin. If this rule is broken, then said offender is expelled from the group. One girl is known to have broken this rule and it went viral when she did, just look up "Minami Minegishi Scandal," and you will see. However, due to her popularity she wasn't expelled.
the singles usually dont have solo lines except maybe one from the center; usually it's split up into smaller groups from 2-5 members who each sing lines together. each group has a theater where they perform almost daily that has unit songs where they have more chance to shine. I recommend Junai no Crescendo, Faint, Zannen Shoujo or Seifuku Resistance as far as unit songs go
lol great reaction. Been awhile since I heard this song. I used to follow AKB48 closely for about 5-6 years, but once all the members I liked "graduated" I strayed away....And then got into Kpop lol. As for the lineup, from what I recall, they are chosen through a yearly election system, where fans vote for their favorite. Top 16 are part of the senbatsu, and are the main line for the leading MV released & show performances. The girl in the center, Yuko, won 1st place that year and this was the song given to her and the other members.
I recommended this song because is very controversial and I do believe is the most Iconic one, I recommend anyone to check #SGO48 #heavyrotation the sister group from Vietnam, right now I am in Thailand, having fun with BNK48 , tomorrow I'll see AKB48 Team8 and some other thai groups. #IdolWorldwide
