Thanks for the lesson. I bought my son a Pearl Roadshow for Christmas and he is loving the drums. I was curious as to what hi hat you are using here. It sounds great and I need to upgrade. Pearl shells=great, Pearl cymbals not so much.
Hey im loving the beat

I know it's about 4 years since you posted this, but incase you see this I want to tell you something. I'm buying drums tommorow and I just practiced with your video with 2 toy skateboards as my sticks and my speaker as my kick drum. I think I did pretty good on these beats. you are a great drummer and a great teacher
I love this

You know, it's nice to watch stuff like this and not be thinking "Can I even play this?" After all the frustrations, and even going 6 months without playing, I'm growing rapidly and feeling so much more comfortable behind my kit. To anyone who feels discouraged: if you put in the time (and it really isn't that much time, I'm talking 30 mins a day average), and effort, you can grow really fast. Just watch enough good players! Study! God bless!
+All For Christ Videos Heck yes dude!
I agree and the holy spirits the best teacher of all time I get in a zone where it's like praying and playing at the same time
I use a keyboard though but it's all about the count
Praise Jesus for music
?
Dam thanks for writing a beautiful comment for me so I didn't have too cause I has going to write something like this.
Elite Lens Films I haven't played for 6 years and it all came back as soon as I sat down on the drum seat
I've loved music my whole life and always dreamed of playing the drums. I am 57 years old, but kids moved out, looking to learn a new skill. Always wanted to be in a band! Great vid!
That’s so awesome Todd! I’m excited for you to take your dream head on!
I'll be 63 in a couple of months and started messing with the drums after playing keyboard (not advanced, mainly just playing around chords), since I was young. I bought an entry level electronic drum kit about a year ago and just upgraded to a much better Roland kit. Since I got my drums, I've hardly played the keyboard. It's so much fun playing along with my favorite songs. I'm trying to focus now on holding the sticks correctly and learning to work with the bounce. Practicing on the rubber pad is really a must to get that feeling of controlling the bounce/rebound. I wish I had two right hands because my left is a struggle. Good luck in your drumming journey. It's a blast!
Thank you...in am 52 and living a dream to play the drums...i remember wanting to sense i was a little girl..i have always favored drums...this video gave me a good idea on how to play...excellent job...i thank you for your time and talents...
+Suzie Dunson You are so welcome Suzie! Keep rocking it! I'm so glad to hear that you are following through with your dreams!
+Drum Beats Online thank you for real...your a kind...cool guy...
Suzie I just started playing drums roughly a month before my 52nd b.day...which was jan 17th of this yr. And like yourself i had always dreamed of becoming a drummer at a very young age
It never too late and in loving it.happy to hear someone else making their dreams come true
Happy practicing
Well I am 46 and learning just now, wish me good luck , so far I am doing a decent Jon with the drums, I am getting exited with each lesson and beat I learn
You weird
All your beginner lessons are great and definitely geared towards the absolute beginner. Finally someone who posts great beginner lessons with the viewer in mind. Most " beginner videos" are way over the heads of people just starting out. You explain each and everything you are doing and why. A lot of other instructors talk for 25 minutes about how great they are and expect beginners to understand what they are doing. Huge help man. Keep it up.
Wow! Thanks for the amazing compliment! I'm so honored that I can help other drummers out there like you.
i love when people teach to play like you do it makes it so much easier for me to understand and i catch on really quick. appreciate the video.

No it's not. The high hat's are stagnant on the upbeat
@David Scott that is right
Thank you. I'm an 8 year old learning drums. This is really helpful, though a bit difficult for me.
+Isaac ICon You've got this! Keep spending time on it and you will do awesome!
Thanks
The same thing but im 10
It's ok! Im 31 ahha. This video is so helpful!!
You are 11 now I am really good at math
I think that the most important thing to do in order to start as a beginner drummer, is to find the best teacher! After watching a lot of them on UA-cam, I choose you, Gabe! Your way it’s the best and easiest way to teach a new drummer and filmed from above was a great idea, comparing to most others who don’t understand that a new drummer needs to see the actual drum kicks! To be honest, most of the other teachers seem like they try to show themselves up and make you look like you’ll never be able to do what they do, rather than motivate you to slowly progress! Gabe Helguera is a professional drummer playing for “I prevail” and he hardly brings that up in his videos! Modest guy and great teacher! Very well done, mate, and good luck with your carrier! I’m very glad that I’ve found you! ❤
Thank you Gabe for these amazing videos. I am 53 and just learning to play the drums. I have wanted to learn ever since I was little. I have been watching a lot of videos and always come back to your lessons. I love how you push me just enough to keep growing, but not get too frustrated with myself. Your videos are so clear and encouraging and the quality is very professional & consistent. I really appreciate it and so glad that I found your videos!
I really enjoy these guys tuition. They really understand what it's like to be a beginner
Thanks so much! I'm so glad that these lessons are helpful for you!
I'm learning piano, guitar, and the cello on my own. My dad like to keep a set of drums around for him to mess around with (we got our first non electric set today) so I decided "hell, if they're here why not play em?" And this video really helped alot with that so thank you for making it.
Jinxx Boothe good luck!!
I'm so glad I could help! Keep killing it!
Just keep on practicing :]
this is just my opinion but you might wanna focus on one instrument more to get good with it instead of being mediocre with all
SpicyMoustache YT I've been playing bass for 14 years and when I get bored I play the drums for a couple months and then go on to play the piano for another couple months and always come back to bass.
Great lesson, you understand that beginner means beginner! I am a 46 yr old nurse who's three children are on their own and I now have time to learn something new. I look forward to learning more from you. TY
Thanks so much! I'm so glad that I could help you out!
Thanks Dude! I'm 38 years old and have been a mixing/scratch DJ for many years. I've always had an infatuation with rhythm and drum beats. I have been playing around on my "Real Drum" app with 2 stylus's as my drum sticks lol. I've actually learned a cool pattern thanks to you. I am heading over to Amazon to find some drum pads to order and get going because as I get more into it, I know that I will eventually crack my screen! I love making these sounds! It hits me in my core and it's so fun! So glad I stumbled upon this tutorial and THANK YOU!
I know it's important to read music however my greatest strength is, i have a good ear for music. Being a beginning drummer i can play what i hear but the notes can be of help.
todd mustafa-ali I also learned in the beginning playing by ear. But it wasn’t till I learned how to read music that it actually “clicked” in my head. It’s like finding the last missing puzzle piece to a puzzle where you never really knew what the picture in the puzzle looked like until you had that last piece.
Did you realize it wouldn’t be the case anymore when you come across more complicated beats 4 years later?
Getting an electric drum kit for Christmas. I genuinely can’t wait to be able to play these myself
hey! how is it going?
This really helped! thanks i started drums an hour ago and couldn't find any good videos that helped this one really did! keep making more and ill keep looking for them.
Me to .well I started a few months ago .
Keep with it, you’ll love it!
I’m not a beginner but I haven’t played in a couple years. This video definitely helped bring back some of more basic stuff I learned Year one that I had totally forgotten. Thank you so much. I’m back on track. It all came rushing back to me once I started watching.
Thanks for this lesson. I'm a beginner, and most of the other videos are really confusing, but this one I find much easier to understand and it really helps.
thanks for posting such a great beginners' video~~ it is really helpful for a beginner like me who just touch the drumsticks~~
Just got into drums, I learned Steady my Heart by Kari Jobe in 3 weeks after holding a drum stick, its very easy :)
I’m 12 and was the best student yet
I know it about 9 years since you made this, but I just wanted to say I'm a beginner who just bought a drum set, and I'm getting better thanks to your lesson.. Thank you.
i love how he plays it barefoot
이서비 I do lol
이서비 I do also or in socks haha
stfu
I like to play nude

Hey Gabe, I have never felt compelled to leave a comment on someones UA-cam gig before but you have done such an outstanding job with these beginner drum lessons that I just had to say how much I'm enjoying them. Your topics are perfect for beginners, the right amount of info at a nice relaxed pace. Keep up the good work!
Just got my drum set, put it all together and I can just say that this video is perfect for learning drums~
+Dakiaty I'm so happy to hear that! Happy drumming friend!
Drum Beats Online

An excellent and simple tutorial I honestly thought I wouldn't be able to play them since they sounded and looked tough, but after the explanation you gave, I was able to play them well.
Just Bought My First Drum Kit. Working On Lesson 3. Your An Excellent, Patient, Articulate Teacher. Thank You :)
This is great, I learnt the first two at a good tempo in 1 hour. It felt so satisfying to go from nothing, to two solid beats.

Thanks So Much, Helped So Much And I Really Enjoyed It Instead Of Just Always Playing;

You’re a great teacher. Very patient!
BLESS. You make it down man.🍾
Awesome tutorial ! I've started getting into 'drumming' . I haven't got a set yet but learning the basic with my 3 buckets and chopsticks is alright .
So glad you liked it! That's a great place to start!
if they are those ten gallon buckets for like paint and sand they should probably sound good if you had a pair of sticks like have you seen some of those street performers?
I've been playing for 6 months and I've always felt like such a failure, but this helps me understand what I'm meant to do in an easier and more comfortable way, so thank you for the video dude!!!
It's my pleasure! It's very normal to feel like a failure at drums, they can get frustrating. But continue to power through and it will only become more enjoyable!
Thanks again!! :)

+Suzie Dunson I'm so glad you are having fun! And I'm so happy that I've been able to help you out!
Thanks, this really helped out
Awesome, always wanted to learn to drum . Ended up playing the sax lol , love it still . Only play for my own pleasure but I'm good with that . Maybe when I retire I'll be good enough and confident enough to go to open mike jam nights somewhere. Who knows if I can master basic beats and learn to multi task without banging the same beat out everytime with every limb in sync maybe I'll buy a kit and take up drumming seriously. I'd love that , I'm just not sure if I can operate individually tasked beats on each limb lol . Talk about confusion.
Thats awful that you have negative thumbs. Unbelievable. You are great instructor. You explained things well!!
i now right
