I’m not a megamind clicker, I’m not a toxic masculinity clicker! I’m a FUCKING DR HORRIBLE CLICKER! Hell yeah love that shit! And really loved your analysis and comparing and contrasting of each movie! You did it in a thoughtful and nuanced way so good job
I watched Dr. Horrible on your request without knowing anything about it because I trusted you that it was good. And it was very good. But since I didn’t know ANYTHING about it, when I got to the credits and saw that JOSS WHEDEN wrote it, it was like a god damn M Night Shamalan twist.
Saw this video cause of a Tumblr link and this whole analysis is so good!! I’m just hoping and praying that my fav animated series Villainous, which seems to be doing a “supervillain and superhero fight over a girl” story doesn’t go the Dr Horrible direction, really cool analysis!
6:53 I sorta see it different. Basically they were raised by different groups one a rich family that somewhat taught him normal moral values, while the other was raised in a prison. Because of this they were forced into being a hero or villain until they realized that it isn't fulfilling I don't see it as a masculinity thing.
a dingo that watches a human baby is a reference to azaria chamberlain who was a baby who died to a dingo from being left in the tent as an australian i know the story
Lol I always assumed Roxanne never corrected the narrative bc it worked really well for her career. Her boss definitely didn't mind her randomly being out for a day or two bc she was kidnapped, and her job (as well as safety) wasn't actually at risk. Heck I'm sure the TV producer loves that THEY had the reporter who's always in the spotlight, and could get the first scoop on the latest story. Sure anyone in a different career couldn't really get "fired" for being kidnapped. But these did seem to be regular occurrences, and I can see anyone who's at a 9-5 really suffering career wise from the constant interruptions, and their boss being upset at all the random times out of the office. Roxanne definitely wasn't bothered by all the kidnappings; and this way Metroman could persue another relationship in private without risking the other person's safety, job, or mental well being from all those kidnappings.
How to train your Dragon has been my favourite movie for basically my entire life, and I am so excited for the live action remake. I always thought the original was amazing, but it could not capture the full grand scale of how fantastical and beautiful the film is when the cartoon characters are so grotesquely designed. like yes, I love them but they don’t look like real people, theyre comically disproportionate, It’s kind of hard to take them seriously. And it’s the same with the dragons, they are so cartoony that you cannot take them seriously. There are tons of scenes from the original that read as not very serious, those could be scary and haunting and gorgeous if done in live action.
If I had a nickel for everytime someone mentioned warriors in this comment section, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
@@khaotickiri8223mine was through someone’s video essay relating both the Jekyll and Hyde to Dr horrible thing. Can’t remember much but that’s what got me watching it.
an absolute banger video once again, thanks for your thoughtful and engaging critique on two pieces of media that i deeply love ^-^ as a huge buffy/angel fan i have to admit that i was waiting with dread for the inevitable whedon Stuff, the struggle of enjoying his works and simultaneously having to do a double read between what you want the work to be saying and what it very easily could be saying considering his views and what he was getting up to behind the scenes is always hard, and it's nice to hear someone put it into words
Yeah it’s always a tough balance when the person who creates something you love turns out to be someone with…questionable beliefs. I think it’s really up to you to decide whether or not those beliefs seem into their work enough for you to lose your enjoyment in them. I still really love Buffy, but I can’t stand Xander and his antics knowing that he’s essentially a Whedon self insert
Probably we're just in different circles but I was really surprised by the idea that Megamind was more well-known than Doctor Horrible's Sing-a-long blog. I remember it being absolutely huge, while Megamind kind of slipped under the radar.
I adore Dr. Horribles Sing Along Blog. I cry just thinking about the end. Every time Penny dies, I sob 😢 Such a good movie "It's okay, Captain Hammer will save us" 😭
I have first hand experience with people who call things woke. They've had justifications that make less sense than that (not that they ever make much sense to begin with)
@@TSDTalks22 True, not everyone can come up with a cogent response to an argument--that goes for both sides. Especially in an internet comment section where rage drives what is said. Some people just repeat what they're told. However, when someone says something like "because he wears eyeliner", it sounds dismissive and like you won't give the opposing viewpoint it's due. You can ignore this if you're just trying to preach to your choir.
@TSDTalks22 I would only try to call something woke if it prioritizes the message over the story and tries to pander rather than tell a compelling story. Dr horrible and mega mind don't do that. Velma does do that. I think the rise of Skywalker is probably just bad idk.

So glad to see Dr Horrible content. The writing is so good, I’d love to see some sort of extended series.
There are canon comics!

bigger plot twist than The Village
That was great!!! Very in-depth but also to the point commentary. Also GOD I WANT TO REWATCH MEGAMIND NOW
Markiplier as a way to imply M tendencies had me rolling

Joke's on you, I did know Dr. Horrible. I learned about it through a Warrior Cats AMC as the gods intended.
But seriously, love both these flicks and this video is great! Keep it up :)

Hahahaha that markiplier masochistic callout was way too funny
I am a huge fan of Dr. Horrible, I've kinda grown up to the music because of my parents. Loved this video, i agree with alot of what youre saying!

Fun fact: I found Dr.Horrible through a warrior cats animatic and became obsessed with it since, and Megamind was one of my favorite movies as a kid

Not gonna lie, I personally thought Hal’s rooftop date thing to Green Lantern rather than Superman… I dunno what that says about me but 😭
Like the Ryan Reynolds movie?

if you think people would call Megamind woke because he wears eyeliner...then you need to do research on why someone would call something woke.
