An important detail I noticed that subtly showcases how she idolizes her father in a child-like manner: She never directly says her father was a drug abuser, instead she simply says he had "burdens" as if to protect the picture she has of her father.
No, she isnt protecting anyones picture she is well aware he used drugs but to her that is disease not something bad or wrong she sees it as something he struggled with rather than something he abused she doesnt demonize drug use because understand it is a burden a disease
That scene with all the rats and Starro was just perfect. Here you have Ratcatcher 2. She's using her fathers technology to literally save the world. He wasn't just some drug addict, he was a great man. The happiness, pride, and validation she feels must be overwhelming. But even through all that, through everything that she's feeling personally, she empathetic enough to comfort her friend because he's afraid of rats. Such a good scene
that scene is one of the best, the fact that Ratcatcher was able to comfort Bloodsport, ties with their conversation "i wish i could give you that love". She remembers Bloodsport fear, and it was easy for her not to put her arm around him, after all they were facing Starro. But She did remember to protect him, and also give him some "parethood love". He father been drug addict it could go in the bad way, he could had been a abuser, which he wasnt... This goes opposite to Bloodsport or Polka dot man parents. He shield her from bad things and wanst cruel to her, instead the really love her. Aside from his addiction, the original Ratcatcher was a villain, because he need it to. To provide for his daughter. Her flashback about porpuse really goes well. Cleo finally become what her father said. She found her porpuse...
I was wondering if anyone is going to point out the fact that she literally has no super power but a stupid wand with a lightbulb her father left him when he died 😭
I suspect Ratcatcher 2's Father was a super feeler as well, and used drugs to cope with those intense feelings. While by default Rats are nocturnal, Pet rats tend to adjust their awake times to whoever is awake with them. Rats however do sleep as much as Cats, so perhaps she shares that trait with them. I think perhaps she could sleep a lot purely down to the fact she is a super feeler, and intense emotions are exhausting. As a pet Rat owner myself, I think they are kind of super feelers also. They are complex emotional creatures, which is why a lot of psychological research is based around them.
@@ahmedamine24 They can be somewhat expensive if you want a good cage set up. And usually it's best to get more than one rat so they have someone to communicate with. But rats in general are awesome as pets. Their only flaw really is they have a very short lifespan
Couple of things I really liked were 1) ratcatchers dad shows that even someone who has substance issues can still be loving and pillar to someone else. 2)the way ratcatchers hand comforts bloodsport as the rats crawl over him When she summons the horde
I think her father solidified in her how she sees most people within the flashback scene where he explains to her why rats are so important. Purpose. We all have purpose.
I love how Ratcatcher keeps Sebastian close to her chest, as if to protect him, when she sees Starro and all the horrible experiments that he has gone through
I really think you should've put in the scene where Blood Sport shoots Peacemaker. It shows he didn't need a single second of context to protect her and the scene where she calls the massive horde of rats but uses her body as a shield. I know you had the second scene I mentioned in another video but it was an explanation of Blood Sports side.
I loved that scene... Some people edit his angry look when they put "bloodsport saves ratcatcher"... They jump directly to peacemaker and bloodsport shooting... His change of mood from confused to wtf! Is fundamental because that shows his character and the importance of ratcatcher as a person
I think it's also worth noting that Ratcatcher and Bloodsport's relationship seems more touching because they are each others' reminders of their family. Bloodsport reminds Ratcatcher of her late father. Ratcatcher reminds Bloodsport of his daughter.
All throughout the film, Sebastian squeals with disappointment every time Bloodsport doesn’t reciprocate the affection he has for him. It’s great that the final shot is Bloodsport finally opening up to him and Sebastian seems content now, and when he’s stroked and then yawns and snuggles up with him, the song lyrics playing over the scene are “I just wanted to be loved by you”. That was a great way to end the movie.
Upon watching the movie again I really feel like it was (at least in part) Cleo's father's philosophy that makes her so quick to trust and bond with others, Nanaue in particular: "Rats are the lowliest and most despised of all creatures.. If they have purpose, so do we all."
So basically Ratcatcher 2 is basically us who lost our close family members, her & King Shark are a reflection of our little kid selves. Always be a kid at heart people, life is no fun when you're a workaholic stressed out responsible adult.
The flashback scene where her and her father are sitting on top of that tall building at night and he says that even the most despised creatures need love (I can't remember the quote word for word) is important too
I was wondering if you could do an episode dedicated to Star-Lord's relationship with Ego and Yondu from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. I think it is one of the most beautiful things James Gunn's ever done.
It was a good idea that her hands on her chest was her being anxious, and I think it is but not in the same way. She is clutching sebastian to her chest tightly. I think she may have been anxious that sebastian would get hurt.
@@ishanstuff James Gunn actually said that was a whole montarge, and a much larger scene. So if you think the window scene was sad, then the deleted scenes are going to be a real tearjerker.
i'm curious to see your take on the Peacemaker. He's the one character that has the least clearly development through its narrative (i believe they're saving him for the HBO MAX series), although he clearly has some moments in which he cares about the team and feels like part of a family. his actions maybe speak to an violent past (the way he reacts at the Bloodsport story about his father figure) and his conflict with Flag it is not something he wanted (there is some kind of desperation in the way he tries to convince Flag not to fight and the end of it he had an expression of pain very peculiar to an assassin like himself). he looks like a man broken by an mad ideology and driven by a code that consumes his inner personality as a person.
I think when she's "covering her heart" she's actually just holding Sebastian close. I could be wrong but she is definitely clutching him close to her chest
Betting on love is rare. I was lucky, our parents loved my brother and I deeply, and we knew it. Despite all the trials and travails, we never knew poverty, even when my parents where struggling with money. And Abner's dancing surrounded by his mom, that was when he accepted himself I think. Definitely did not notice Nanue's tear, and kudos to whoever did. Nanue's sad, sad that other living things had been bucked off this mortal coil, showing his progress from "everything num-num" to appreciating other living things. I swear, it's like everyone except for Peacemaker had their therapy on this mission. I think Ratcatcher is about the only one that didn't really change throughout this ordeal, though I'm still unsure how, or maybe naivete is plot armor? Then again, naivete is one of the best ways of disguising yourself, avoiding attention on account of skills you might have. And it is rather funny the look in their eye after they see you fixing a server that was completely and utterly borked, the dawning realization that they've severely underestimated you, and that their job is now in jeopardy. Thinking on it, she likely uses that to lower people's armor, people are more open with those they think inconsequential. Her demeanor reminds me of the time Lex Luthor was given Superman's powers for a day, how he saw the entirety of things, from every single atom to the entire spectrum of light and was overcome. He got hit by EVERYTHING right in the kisser. It's nice to see others, even fictional people, understand how we are all in this together. She gets it already. I'd also go further and say that she's likely employing radical acceptance, accepting everything as it is, and being content with that. Most people live a good part of their life in the future, prognosticating, planning, and imagining what might come. Part of it is how we think about time. Most think of it as an edifice, building up on top of the past. Alan Watts mentioned that we're more like ships, crossing the sea of time, leaving a wake that eventually dissipates. I'm inclined to agree. You chart a course, set sail, and take things as they come. A hard problem when you prepare for every conversation by considering every single turn it might take, playing out the possibilities in your head. On a side note, Peacemaker and Bloodsport's back and forth is both hilarious and absolutely true, talking shit comes with the territory when you're good at what you do. There's the serious discussion of technique and the like couched liberally with expletives and backhanded compliments, with the occasional "yo mama" joke. And maybe it's more to do with how men kick around friendship like a football, in that we don't take things too seriously or to heart, and tend to forgive...
I am so glad that I found this. These are such beautiful explanations about some empathetic scenes that I love about movies like this. When most of my friends and movie critics in UA-cam focus on realism of some movies and production quality for their value (usually a lot of negativity), it is refreshing to hear someone highlighting something that I'm sure I've seen and felt and that the movies wanted to deliver those feelings (that I couldn't find anyone else talking about). This actually helped me feel even more about the scenes in the movies. Thank you for this.
This is so cool! I'm glad you did a Ratcatcher 2 reaction! Your video reminded me of why she is one of my favorites - she is definitely the heart of the film. Her empathy and compassion are definitely her strengths and she is an awesome character. I like the analysis you did too. :) Great video! I think you analyzed this scene in a different video (but I can't remember if you did or not), but the scene where Ratcatcher 2 comforted Bloodsport as the rats ran all over him while attacking Starro was a great scene and definitely shows her compassion and care too :).
You're more right than you know. The awful emotional pain and trauma I've been through in my life over and over again caused me to build up high impenetrable walls around myself. And when you find someone that can see through that, it's like the breaking of a new dawn. And I thought Ratcatcher 2 was the best character I've seen in a film like this in a long time.
I’ve been watching so many of your videos lately, I love seeing this view of super hero’s and showing us just how similar we all are to these larger than life people. Keep making videos, your doing great!!
I kinda want to see you react to Harley Quinn in birds of prey. Not just to view the way her brain basically dealt with the trauma of dating the joker, but also to see the scenes were she gets all psychiatrists in the other characters
I was told I'm a super feeler. But as I have asperger's I can't see past people's shields. I usually feel as if people just don't like me if they put up a front. But if people are straight forward with me and tell me how they feel I am able to handle it accordingly.
Good morning, I definitely do love your channel and your analysis. I was really looking forward to this one, but you did miss the scene I was hoping to see the most. I mean yes it is the obvious and I have my own analysis but I was hoping to compare it to yours. It was the very emotional scene were Ratcatcher 2 was calling in the rats, saving the day, her friends, and recalling her father. It was the most emotional scene in the move and further displayed her emotional depth i would love to hear your analysis.
This was a great essay. I feel like, because these superhero films are so plot-forward, because the emotional arcs are expressed with such short, concise scenes and lines, people don't always pick up all the nuances. It reminds me of how people thought Mad Max: Fury Road was just a movie-length car chase, because the character arcs were expressed without much dialog, purely through action. The truth is, all film expresses character arcs through action. The dialog is only ever in support, guiding the audience with clearer views of the each stage of character deveopment. But I feel that the simple character portraits in films like this carry just as much power, for the very reason that they're not bogged down with too much detail or repetition. You've drawn out a huge amount about Ratcatcher 2 here, from maybe five minutes total of dialog, and there's still more to examine, more complexity to tease out from what the film hints at. A great story is as much about what's between the margins as what's explicitly stated. That's what makes it fun and engaging to discuss. Inferring subtext is how the audience participates in a story. So the more accessible subtext there is, the more fun and rewarding it is to reflect on the film.
I’m so hyped I found your wonderful channel! You are a joy to watch and the videos are such high quality! I adored The Suicide Squad and your coverage of it has been so amazing. I can’t wait to be here when this channel explodes!
Ratcatcher slept a lot because it was a behavioral habit she picked up from her father. Heroin addicts have irregular sleeping patterns and take lots of naps.
I really enjoyed seeing your insights into her character and I couldn't agree more. I hope you'll eventually do videos on the last two Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland and how he portrays the character.
Aw another nice video 😊 Really like that you talked about multiple characters. Ha I'm watching this after crying a lot during What If ep 4. Still sad and thinking about the episode even 😅
I’m loving this series. Executing his take on The Suicide Squad, James Gunn will have acquired tools in his Auteur toolbox that will make for better stories. Guardians of the Galaxy & Marvel Cosmic & Beyond. Just like Jack Kirby going from Marvel to DC & Back to Marvel. Additionally I imagine it is at the cost of increased restricting what he shares on social media.
I’ve seen so much hate on this movie and power to those people and their opinions, but I really believe this is one of my favorite fun, exciting, sad, brutal, happy movies!
Always a great narrative device to have someone to experience the story that we can "feel" things through. Claire Temple is another character used to this purpose for greater clarity of emotion and understanding. Maybe people should have those in REAL LIFE!!! Wait. Isn't....Isn't that what Georgia Dow is for? ;)
Honestly i thought that rat catcher sleeping late was being the movie makes young people jokes like them being lazy or not knowing what old machines are.
What gets me is how much Waller pretends to care about her. It's not much, but that's Amanda Waller. For her to go even that far, for anyone is stunning.
I actually think you're not far off when you say her "superfeeler" nature is her superpower. We know that her and her father can control rats with that device, but we don't know how. If it was as easy as using a tool, anyone could just do it. It must have something to do with their ability to empathize and feel the way the rats do. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually couldn't control rats, but rather have a kinship with them through empathy that makes the rats into a family with them.
I don't think it's "super feelers" that can see through people. I think it's just an average amount of empathy, but a very solid belief in looking for the best parts of a person. That belief these days is extremely rare.
2:40 I'll have to Disagree, having a Parent that loves you, cares for you, and that you are important too is not enough to build trust, if said parent is a coward and the other abusive.
I kinda hate how Ratcatcher2 is lumped in with the other people as the “bad guys”. Especially when she has such a empathetic and sympathetic heart in comparison to… the others
I just found Your channel a few weeks ago, but it already gave me a lot! To listen somebody, who has the same feelings about those character's from Arcane and all the others! Just to know there are people like you it feels nice!

Ratcatcher slept a lot because it was a behavioral habit she picked up from her father. Heroin addicts have irregular sleeping patterns and take lots of naps.
Ratcatcher and Polkadot man are my favourite characters, this video is great and (I haven't checked yet) I hope there's one on Abner too!
I really enjoyed seeing your insights into her character and I couldn't agree more. I hope you'll eventually do videos on the last two Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland and how he portrays the character.
The thumbnail scene is important also when peacemaker is about to kill her
Aw another nice video 😊 Really like that you talked about multiple characters. Ha I'm watching this after crying a lot during What If ep 4. Still sad and thinking about the episode even 😅
The channel that keeps on giving. Thank you for another quality video.
I love ratcatcher 2 in this movie I can relate to her the most even though I like bloodsport. Also perfect analysis of this character.

I thin Abner dancing with his moms is a statement that he has grown from seeing her as a threat. I also missed the tear...
I wonder what Freud would have to say about Polka-Dot Man's relation with his mother in relation to the scene in the club.
@@georgiadow3028 Who the hell are you?
Yay! Thanks for doing this video! 💙
She’s really my favorite character😭😭😭
I’ve seen so much hate on this movie and power to those people and their opinions, but I really believe this is one of my favorite fun, exciting, sad, brutal, happy movies!
Always a great narrative device to have someone to experience the story that we can "feel" things through. Claire Temple is another character used to this purpose for greater clarity of emotion and understanding. Maybe people should have those in REAL LIFE!!! Wait. Isn't....Isn't that what Georgia Dow is for? ;)
Would you consider analyzing the relationship between Spock and Kirk in the JJ Abrams Star Trek trilogy?
Honestly i thought that rat catcher sleeping late was being the movie makes young people jokes like them being lazy or not knowing what old machines are.
I like your channel a lot. I'm gonna enjoy farming your videos whenever I need to annihilate roughly 10 minutes of free time!
Love the video as always! Great analysis and observations. Keep up the great work and congrats on the sponsor! A free month is a great deal!
Now you GOTTA do Bloodsport
How do you make such insightful video essays and how does one learn to be this observant?
More great insight. I am greatly enjoying your reaction videos. I look forward to more. Blessings on your day.
What gets me is how much Waller pretends to care about her. It's not much, but that's Amanda Waller. For her to go even that far, for anyone is stunning.
I think Ratcatcher 2 has some form of narcolepsy. She's always trying to fall asleep all the time night or day.
Congratulations on ur sponsorship and keep it up
Peacemaker next!
Nice video, I liked it a lot
Congratulations on the Skillshare sponsorship!
Please make a video on trauma of injustice Superman
She sees Bloodsport as a father figure. Through Ratcatcher, he comes to terms with his failures and flaws as a father.
"She's nocturnal because RATS are nocturnal!"
........Or she may have a sleeping-disorder. XD
Its not a tear, watch the scene from the start, its just a drop of water that lands on is face and goes down the eye
The hardest thing to live a life being bloodsport at the outside but exist like ratcatcher in the inside! (That's me)
I just found Your channel a few weeks ago, but it already gave me a lot! To listen somebody, who has the same feelings about those character's from Arcane and all the others! Just to know there are people like you it feels nice!
Thank you
Would you be able to do a video on Jerry Hickfang, from “The Voices"?
i watched this movie.... it was brutal but also heartful movie.... it feels strange but good~~!!
6:12 What about Milton?!
Ratcatcher 2 is easily the best, purest and most innocent character in Suicide Squad 2
One Super feeler talking about another.👍
You should do PEACEMAKER next if possible
She should do Broly from the Dragon Ball Super movie!
her villainess ways Are not even Evil all she is is a thief a slightly better thief
do a three parter on Harley!
Just discovered this channel and found out you're a BJJ champion. That's hot
I have questions so is she remember Milton?
Definitely not how you say Nanaue’s name…. But cool video aside from that
My brother love 💕 🐀.

Do bloodsport!!!
you HAVE to react to episode 4 of Marvel's What If?!!!!!!
Weird. my eyes are sweating
