What I think is even better about the Excalibur scene is that he doesn't even know the reason why he can't get it out if the stone. He couldn't even be bothered to do research on the artifact he was stealing.

As an added detail on the empathy part, Jack didn't kill those baby unicorns. If you pay attention to his cart, It's being drawn by unicorns that have their horns broken off and are jagged.
Jack didn't just kill them for their horns. He mutilated them, then enslaved them.

What I found refreshing about Jack was that he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and understands that. He's quite happy being a total creep.

Not only that, but he seems very organized as well, with how well placed his office is
He's definitely competent in some regard. You can't amass that level of magic artifacts, get all those criminal connections, AND run a successful pie business on the side ig your a total idiot.

Considering he actually runs a very successful pie business and tests all the pies himself to make sure they're good. I'd say he's fairly responsible if only to himself

Don't know if it counts as irresponsiblity, but Jack is actually very incompetent at using magic artifacts, mostly because he can't be asked to try to learn them.
And most of the artifacts are meant for good people.
I made a fairly detailed comment on why I think this counts, since even if you didn't take away any of his other traits, if he really wanted to achieve his goal of killing everyone and getting his wish, he could have been much more efficient with the way he used his resources, it's a very twisted sense of responsibility that would be required to do evil efficiently, but he lacks even the most basic foresight to try and make the most of his resources, because by the end, he ends up killing almost all of his own men, wasting all of his magic, and flagrantly discards anything he brought with him whenever it's convenient without considering how it could help him in the long run.
The most effective and terrifying villains understand, if you want to win, you need to be responsible, efficient, and understand the value of things you can't relate to.
It's the difference between Jack Horner throwing all his men and stuff away because he can't foresee the consequences of his actions, and someone like the Joker knowing how to cause the most chaos by torturing a single person to cause the most chaos.
The most dangerous villains, real or fictional, are the ones who know how to see the bigger picture, which develops a very twisted form of responsibility which still aligns with their own malicious personalities.
He’s the type to get a dangerous weapon and not go through the appropriate training for it
Idk, he seems to use them pretty well. Like a person who buys a flamethrower and only uses the pilot light to toast marshmallows. Technically you are using it wrong, but it still works

The part about delayed gratification hit me hard. I was diagnosed with combined type ADHD at 8, and that has been one of the most difficult parts of dealing with it. The need/want to just gain a skill instantaneously but always failing to do so and then becoming crippled with self-doubt because of it has killed almost all of my hobbies.
I know your pain, I'm not diagnosed with anything but I think that's because my school was terrible with helping kids with that stuff. All their focus was on how well the sports teams preformed that year, everything else was barely even a afterthought, I wouldn't be surprised if I have some form of neurodivergent but at this point I feel silly getting tested because it won't do anything. I'm not a kid anymore
@Scarlet Jester I would 100% recommend getting tested regardless. Even if you're not in school or a kid, getting diagnosed and treated for something, if you do end up having something, will increase your quality of life immensely.

One of the things that makes Jack a personal favorite villain is how self-aware he is! There’s no trying to make excuses to how he is, no delusions, no twists. He’s just outright evil, he knows it and owns it.
There's a small tidbit on the horses he uses on the carriage: They have cut off horns, so those are probably the fully grown baby unicorns he got the horns from, so he didn't actually kill them(but he might've killed the other unicorns since those are a ton of unicorn horns, or maybe he kept them on the back).
Yeah, he basicaly kidnapped baby unicorns, cut off their horns and enslaved them to be his draft horses.
Hei may be breeding them, then cut of the horns once they reach a decent size.

Also, should I be concerned I found the irony of the midas touch and the whole "if I can't pull the sword from the stone I'll just hit people with the stone" as totally plausible and acceptable ideas 😂 the one is efficient and the other is just good improvational skills.

Thank you for clarifying that not everyone with low empathy (or a different way of expressing empathy) is a bad person or destined to be evil. I have ASD and get called a sociopath all the time because I come off ‘cold’ and and anti-social.
Something else I see a lot is people who get called "Cold" and "Unfeeling" in most forms of media are called that not due to being unable to have empathy, but rather because they either don't know how to express themselves like other people OR they have low empathy resulting in trouble relating to others. That's why most of them have "character growth" that's them learning how to express themselves/understand others better.
Random question: why is the acronym ASD? I'd guess it was APD. Or was that already the acronym for something else?

I like dichotomy between Jack and Pinocchio. While both of them have Jiminy by their sides, one is an object becoming a real boy while the other is a real boy becoming a monster! While also being super envious of Pinocchio, he don’t realise that he’s the problem and not the circumstances of his birth. I speculate the reason why he’s envious of Pinocchio and feel outshined by him is because Pinocchio is a being made of magic, so if he can have all the magic in the world he can truly feel special and the only one who’s special that he can finally outdo Pinocchio
I am a sociopath, mostly due to childhood trauma and perhaps a bit of genetic disposition, but due to the relatively stable and positive home I grew up in, I have managed to find ways to deal with the darker and more damaging impulses I have. One of which is steady employment: I would get bored at jobs very easily, and quit before a year was up, with no real thought to my next job, as long as I had a little money in the bank. It's taken me a while, but Ive managed to not only keep a job for two years now (longest so far), but it's actually becoming a higher paying career. I've also avoided commiting any serious crimes, and have never even seen the back seat of a police car.

@@ulfdydager I'm an industrial maintenance tech. The vast majority of what I deal with are cold, soulless machines- much like myself. ;)
While I can be very glib and sociable if I need to, the nights where I don't say a single word to anyone are by far my favorites. I greatly prefer my solitude. I don't think my sociopathy really affects my job all that negatively, beyond maybe I should talk to the operators a little bit more to get more info about what issues they're having. But then again, it's the night shift, so it's not like there's many people around anyways.

Jack Horner has some of the best lines in the movie. He runs a close second to death as my favorite character.
I have aphantasia and have no conscious ability to create images, nor do I have any auditory or other senses in my mind. The best way I can describe it is that I just know what I remember and when I think it's a silent thought with no voice, no picture, just blank understanding.

I personally really wanna see you cover Kitty Softpaws especially since in the first Puss movie we learn about WHY she has soft paws and trust issues. I just find her to be a cool character and her own growth of learning to trust people again I think is often underrated

I sort of feel that the Shrek franchise is going back to it's roots with Jack being an over-the-top pure villain in response to all the "Twist Villains" and overdone Villain redemptions
My sister is sociopathic, but because she wants to get better, she does. My sister has made incredible improvement and has learned so much. I'm very proud. Meanwhile, I'm super empathic and have synesthesia, we see the world in drastically different ways. I learned how to be unbiased from her, and she learned empathy from me.
My only experience with sociopaths has been abuse and or predatory behaviour,
A lot of people I know were permanently destroyed in some form or capacity by sociopathic abusers
So it's hard for me to view them as anything other than inhuman monsters who prey on people like cattle or use them like tools.
But I wonder if a positive and supportive personal life or home structure is the factor that makes them curb themselves and want to make it work?

The Bridge scene was more irresponsible in my opinion. Being wasteful of resources is wrong regardless of doing good or evil. Unless you are purposely wasting to be evil in that way. But that lost can't be your stuff and people.

This just my uneducated guess: The way I see it rage can be called a "pseudo" emotion as it is not a base emotion and is instead born out of another emotion like love or fear as a sort of negative reaction.
Empty rage, the kind that comes from a fabricated injustice rather than an actual one.
It's not even remotely close to the feeling of being genuinely impassioned by something.

What’s there to analyze, he’s the hero and you’re the bad guy.
A planet full of gun nuts and drug addicted psychopaths, and they’re trying to open ancient vaults and gain super weapons. He is trying to stop you all while everyone, even the people you hurt, are laying down stones for you to walk.
He has to stop you, he’s seen what happens if he doesn’t and it’s driving him insane.
Not much to analyze, just the lengths and depths someone is willing to go to just because they feel it’s right.

Most who’ve seen the movie probably already noticed, but I had only just noticed that Jack was the only one who didn’t touch the map before getting to the star. Puss, Kitty, Perrito, and Goldi were the only ones who touched it and we saw what their paths to the star looked like. I do wonder if Jack touched the map what would his path have looked like and entailed? What do you think?
I don't have any diagnosis, but I'm practically like a hermit. I enjoy my solitude and alone time and don't really like going anywhere. I'll still socialize, but really only with my immediate family or through online things like Discord. I'm not including work here because though I enjoy it at times thanks to my coworkers, it's more of something I have to do than want to do. My personality here might also come from growing up in a small mountainous area with a town population of around or under 2000. Though, now that I think about it, it might actually come from something else, a past trauma with a "friend". Basically he broke my trust and betrayed me when we were kids and I kind of shut myself away as a result.

I think something that could have been analyzed a bit more is how other people's positive emotions and energy have absolutely no effect on Jack. It was shown that people do like his pies, but their enjoyment of his product has absolutely no impact on his state of mind. Course the two women who thought of him as famous he downplayed as well.
Jack seems to be a high functioning sociopath since it seems that his Baker's dozen respected him enough to sacrifice themselves for him, which has the implication that he does want the best for himself and to get that best you do need to treat the people you want well enough that they stick around. Probably makes him a ruthless capitalist who has zero problem with firing people who aren't up to the task, but is smart enough to do what is necessary to keep the capable people around.
He certainly doesn't express any malice towards he considers part of his group, just a lot of indifference. Would have been interesting to see how Jack would have reacted to one of his bakers quitting. I think he would be more likely to wave them off saying "Whatever" as opposed to any kind of emotional reaction.
You might have a fun time digging into the psychology of some anime. I know the Fate franchise is a horse that has been beaten to death, dissected, studied, reassembled, and then beaten into paste, but with as many different branches to it there are tons of neat characters and circumstances to evaluate. Others would be Steins;gate, a wonderful mess of the masks people wear and the trauma they cope (or don't) with. The Ancient Magus' Bride is also good as it stars a suicidally depressed girl finding value in herself and life, and an ancient inhuman magical creature learning what it means to be human, how to be human himself (instead of just the surface trappings of humanity), and indeed the things about himself that he never even realized he shared with humanity (it was a particularly hard lesson when he realized that he was capable of jealousy and only realized it after doing some truly heinous things because of it).

For patterns of irresponsibility: He runs a successful pie factory and yet insists on contaminating the product on a regular basis and shows a consistent pattern of abandoning responsibilities in pursuit of a powerful magical object. Presumably that's how he got hid collection in the first place.

When I clicked in this video I thought it would be just like other psychology video where they would demonize the disorder quoted instead of explaining it. But I was wrong. It was actually really educational and entertaining to watch. And it was nice to see actual people with ASPD making comments in here. I was questioning lately if I have the disorder due to some reasons and it's no wonder why I found Jack so funny/relatable at some scenes. I'm also glad you made it clear in the beginning that having low empathy doesn't imply that someone is inherent bad. Loved the video so far :)

It's funny tbh, Horner is so hated and feared by everyone in the movie but we love him because it's refreshing to see a cartoon villain be completely irredeemable and actually evil.
I think what’s fun about Jack Horner is that if the thieves seeked out the map but said that it’s useless because people went and made their wish already, his attitude will likely be:
“Well that blows. But what are you going to do.

I think I'm one of those negative people, and I am honestly curious about the alternatives proposed.
Learning to be positive seems like an attempt at self-delusion to me. I don't WANT to be negative, I just see so many negative things that others don't, or choose to ignore.
Trying to tell ourselves that everything is hunky-dory and we are all lovely and valid and all that stuff might seem appealing until you have to face the consequences of ignoring the sad state of the world around us.
We suck. The world sucks. And the first step of fixing that is to acknowledge it.

Let s look at the clues.
First he said he had great upbringing to the cricket, family, fortune, mansion , golden spoon in hus mouth.
Yet we can see in his own flashback
He had a hard time making money. Worse , pinoccio was taking his clients.
He said perrito he sxdead inside. We can see it s true along the movie.
His goal is: get all the magic in the world. Not being the most powerful magic caster. Simply take all to himself. Which explai what happen:
Jack has no magic. In a world where magic make you whole, make you special
Jack hasxto survive in this condition. Meaning he hates himself for being ordinary and is obscessed to get magic. That broke him. Once he get all, only him would be special.

Show and Tell for Consciences, I’ll start:
My conscience is a train of thought, and sometimes the morality aspect of it comes careening in to interject with the train of thought that needs conscientious evaluation.
Sometimes those moments when it comes in activate the sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous systems: Either the gut-punch of realizing you made a bad choice, or the peace and calm that comes from doing the right thing, making the world that little bit better.
With Jack Horner and levels of a responsibility he let the Phoenix go he dropped Excalibur and didn't go back for it things like that eventhough they are his treasures. Even though you can argue that his and the goal is to have all magic would supersede his material little forms of magic, you would think that after all of his efforts and retrieving these artifacts that they would have some value to him

He’s not impaired, he’s physically strong (not fit but not necessary), he’s a wildly successful entrepreneur, he has hobbies (poaching and hunting baby animals doesn’t warrant an ASPD symptom. Like disorder diagnosis, multiple occurrences of something consistent with the general condition is needed), and he’s perfectly content login the way he’s living. ASPD would not be the diagnosis here

I think the not paying bit, I think it’s more of he was going to pay them both, but the red head annoying one brought up a bad memory and insulted his nursery rhyme, so he got revenge and still paid the other girl her share.
I mean, you don’t keep getting magic items if the messengers keep getting killed off, they would just stop eventually.
One thing I feel is weirdly absent in the entertainment industry is the sociopathic evil character and/or the self-centered evil character. I love irredeemable villains that push our hero or heroine to their absolute limits to the point that the audience is anxious as to whether or not the good guy is gonna win. Jack Horner is one such character who recognizes his flaws, sees them as his strengths, and refuses to redeem himself because he doesn't really see a good reason to do so.

JIminy is probably on YOUR shoulder a lot...just so he can de-stress from the weirdness of the world. = ) So then! Death as depicted by the Wolf is measurably much more likable! I have run into too many of these...who I may or may not have taken much personal glee in defeating and/or deflating. And, on a side note, it may just be because the wolf was in your last thumbnail with your auburn haired self wearing a hood, but I couldn't help but think Little Red Riding Hood then. = )
Would be interesting to see you do a psychology of video on Bowser in the Mario movie. Just seems like how he's a dark, cruel, and tempered warlord whom yet also has his own soft side most of the time when Princess Peach is involved, and the themes of obsession and rejection there, would be interesting to see you cover especially after this vid. Just my thought.

I love Jack - if every villain where like him, he'd probably get dull and boring, but in a movie like this with other 'villains' with more complex motivations, he works very well - it also helps they constantly tease the idea that Jack might turn good or at least show some reason he's so god damned evil. And then nope it.
I think I get what she means about the irresponsibility thing. Because while the majority of Jack's actions can be deemed irresponsible, if you look at it from the context of his overall plan and how he goes about getting it, then it's a different story.
He's responsible in the sense that he knows exactly what must be done to achieve his goal, how to get it done, and is more than willing and able to pass whatever obstacles prevent him from meeting this quota.
Wondering if you would ever do a video about a movie with the 'mom' friend in a group of friends. 😅

I dunno if I have synesthesia, but I often see or feel some kind of imagery or texture in certain situations, especially when I am sensing people's mood. It's part of the reason often the way I explain how someone feels like is through imagery, color, texture, if I am allowed to do so. I know some people cannot understand the way I explain things that way, so I use more common? adjectives or more easily recgonized imageries like an angry baby or baby cow mooing for mama.

Hey, Hello well I didn't know where to write video suggestions but I'd really like to see you reacting on the movie Detachment(2011) in a few videos. I think that movie has so much poignant content that you can talk about and would be interesting to watch your analyzes, comments,thoughts and feelings on the characters in the movie and the movie itself. I love your videos altough I'm not watching all of them but reacts on the series I've watched/am watching already and I'm following this channel for I guess about a year now and I appreciate your effort on those videos.

Tngent, I've always wondered how aphantasia interacts with schizophrenia? My sister and I had a lot of the same mental health issues and pre-cursors for schizophrenia. She got a lot worse once the hallucinations became more vivid. I never had any hallucinations and eventually got a hold on my paranoia/delusional thoughts.
