Jay, the boat is much bigger than the shark and is therefor not a threat. Think of it as if you were driving through the Kruger National Park, admiring the lions from the SAFETY of your car. The lions will not try and eat you and your car, neither will a great white shark simply try and eat you and your boat! Great whites are highly efficient predators and know that a boat doesn't represent prey.
