Exactly what I needed. No annoying intro, no product advertising no whining-for-subscription just the details quick and detailed as I wanted it. Good video man! I am afraid this kind of quality is rare nowadays on hipster-influencer-youtube.
Clear instruction, Thank you for clear instruction, had a lot of problems to upload images. This is done the first shot when watching this.video. Thank again!
One thing you forgot on here. Your switch has to have an ip on a vlan to be able to connect to an tftp server, so that it shows it is on the same network. Otherwise you will get a socket error. I did successfully upgrade my switch firmware tho, so thank you.
Thanks very much, I've spent ages trying to upload a new ios image via tftp for one of my lab switches before finding this video, followed this and it worked first time.
Hi, just wondering how do you do for the same model with stacking? Could not find any instruction anywhere on the web. Thank you for a very clear instruction video.
Standard Process (Used recently) 1. Download the targeted image first. 2-Copy the image to the stack master via TFTP or USB flash drive, note that you can check the MD5 checksum of this image using the following command : verify/md5 flash: , it should match the IOS checksum. 3-Now we need to copy the image on the other unit members of your stack. "copy flash: flash2:" copy flash: and so on... 4-Now that the unit has the targeted image we will need to change the boot system configuration in order to point to the targeted image. -no boot system -do wr -boot system switch all flash: image name -do wr 5- Please check that the new configuration is pointing to the new image by entering the following command : show boot system 6- Reload the unit.
not working for me somehow the step is lacking. do i need to connect to console on switch or do i need another network cable or port to be enabled on the switch then i can do the ping and copy through tftp?
How do you do this over the console port? I assume this only works if you have an actual IP address on the switch and it is connected to your LAN - I am new to this but I did a reset on my 2960G and wiped the settings so the only way to talk is through the console port
Yeah the switch will need a management address on the LAN to use the method I showed. If you want to copy a file across the console port, you can do so with xmodem. It is insanely slow though. There is a way to increase the speed of the console port to something higher than 9600, but even with that it still takes a while. It's better to just get the switch online somehow in my opinion
where can i download the firmware? i'm tryinc cisco's site and it needs a cisco ID which i don't have since i got my equipment second-hand. i don't want to play for anything just so i can have the right commands available to set up vlans :/
I have an urgent question, I just want to buy whatever switch, dell, hp, brocade or cisco for my home network, I don't want any other brand, but my problem is that I don't know if those switches will come with an ios and a layer 2 license with all the features unlocked, I dunno how it works, or do I have to buy a license that activates those features? meaning that "I can buy a switch for lower price but won't be able to do anything with it"
Can you just download image files off the Cisco website w/o having to pay anything? All but one of my switches don't support LLDP so I need to upgrade the version to 12.2(37)SE
Nice succinct instructions. Can anyone tell me if any part of this process will result in downtime for devices connected to the switch, or can it be done in a production environment?
Hi, thanks for the video first of all. I was able to do this with a 2960 Series SI, but I can't with the 2960-X Series. I typed in the "copy tftp://(PC local address/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin flash:" and then it says "Accessing tftp://(PC local address/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin..." and after about 10 seconds it gives me an error: "%Error opening tftp://(PC local address/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin (Time out) Do you know what it is that I might be missing?

Straight to the point and precise! 😎👌💯... You are appreciated 🙏📝
A very tight / perfect video to lay it all out.
Thanks very much, I've spent ages trying to upload a new ios image via tftp for one of my lab switches before finding this video, followed this and it worked first time.
Finally i found a video that really worked for me. 👍

Standard Process (Used recently)
1. Download the targeted image first.
2-Copy the image to the stack master via TFTP or USB flash drive, note that you can check the MD5 checksum of this image using the following command :
verify/md5 flash: , it should match the IOS checksum.

"copy flash: flash2:" copy flash: and so on...
4-Now that the unit has the targeted image we will need to change the boot system configuration in order to point to the targeted image.
-no boot system
-do wr
-boot system switch all flash: image name
-do wr
5- Please check that the new configuration is pointing to the new image by entering the following command :
show boot system
6- Reload the unit.
Great stuff for my CCNP Home lab. Thanks...
thanks bro. Simple and easy to understand.

The video assumes that you already have the switch configured with an IP address. You may need to do this via a console connection first.
Clear instructions, nice video.
keeps timing out. Was the switch setup with an IP address
Straight to the point 👍
Where to download update image

this helped a lot. thanks man
You are the best
how can i get the software that is the new version?
very clear, super nice

Will this process wipe the current config? I'll be doing it remotely and worried about losing access if it does.

Don't you need to remove the old file??
Love you brother. 😊😊😊💐💐💐💐
Thank u, excuse me with this procedure can I install new image to switch from scratch?
clear,,brief,,,efficient,thank you
Awesome video. Thanks. How do the steps change if you want to include the dev mgr? The distribution is a .tar file rather than a .bin.
How about a stack?
I have an urgent question, I just want to buy whatever switch, dell, hp, brocade or cisco for my home network, I don't want any other brand, but my problem is that I don't know if those switches will come with an ios and a layer 2 license with all the features unlocked, I dunno how it works, or do I have to buy a license that activates those features? meaning that "I can buy a switch for lower price but won't be able to do anything with it"
You dont typically need a license for layer features. Usually licensing becomes an issue when you want to run routing protocols.
@@thefiXfiles and that layer license does not expire?
Yeah ipservices is a permanent license in my experience.
is it the same if you want to downgrade the version?
Thanks
do you have ios for download
Can you just download image files off the Cisco website w/o having to pay anything? All but one of my switches don't support LLDP so I need to upgrade the version to 12.2(37)SE
the tftpd app has 16/72 in virustotal , which port you use to connect, mgmt port? i ping it cant connect to me
Nice succinct instructions. Can anyone tell me if any part of this process will result in downtime for devices connected to the switch, or can it be done in a production environment?
The only downtime should be during the reload. Copying the image to the switch can be done without interrupting connectivity.
how many time it takes to setup the new bin image in the appliance? It‘s mark (Executing...) for 2/3 Hours and no result is shown
thanks, that was fun.
Selam dostum, switch'imi (c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-44.SE6) update yapmam gerekiyor. güncel sürümü nedir? yönlendirebilir misiniz?
thank you for your effort could you please share with us the image
Thanks love you
Wielkie dzięki, dokładnie tego potrzebowałem. Big thanks
Do you know how to update switches that work in the stack?
Hi, thanks for the video first of all. I was able to do this with a 2960 Series SI, but I can't with the 2960-X Series.
I typed in the
"copy tftp://(PC local address/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin flash:"
and then it says
"Accessing tftp://(PC local address/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin..."
and after about 10 seconds it gives me an error:
"%Error opening tftp://(PC local address/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin (Time out)
Do you know what it is that I might be missing?
Turn off firewall. Put file anywhere but C drive.
Major Key Alert >>> service contact with Cisco is needed to download IOS? FAIL, SMH
Wanna know where i can get the latest upgraded file?
Thanks
