Just did all this on my Alltrack. I'm guessing you don't live in the rust belt or the previous owner didn't. I am jealous of how clean and cooperative the bolts were for you. Glad you mentioned to uncap the brake fluid reservoir before compressing the pistons. Great work all around. Welcome to the dad wagon world!

Glad my video could be of help! You are correct that mine is a southern car. Also thanks for the welcome to the world of wagons… loving mine so far!

Just did this on my Sportwagen 4Motion from Boston. The rust definitely made things much harder. Huge pain to get those carrier bolts off given how little space is down there. Using the jack helped. Also the standard 24" breaker bar can be tough for the lower bolts. I got a 15" breaker bar for that job. Also put in a good bit of elbow grease using a wire brush and 40-80 grit sandpaper to get the crusty rusty surfaces smooth, the thoroughly cleaned off with brake clear and isopropyl alcohol wipe, rust primer, black caliper paint.

Nice video! What size us the star? 10 point ? Tool needed to remove disc? And the calibers don't push straight back in to open for the new pads?

Bit to remove disc is a T30 torx I from what I remember. Usually to get the caliper piston back in you need a special tool. Sometimes you can use a wrench or pry bar, but be careful not to damage the piston.

Hi! Where exacly did you put your car jack under your car? I've search for a second lifting point in order to be able to do what you did in the video with de stand + the car jack! Thank you

You have two options as far as I know. I jacked up slightly behind the jacking point on the frame rail and then put the stand under the jack point. You can also put jack stands under the front subframe. Check out this thread - www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/jacking-points-axle-stands.314507/

So is the piston in the caliper a thread in or just push? Or both? I just got one of the rear tires and cailpers off and noticed the notches. I know in some vehicles they are thread in. Thank you.

It screws in. You won’t get anywhere just pushing. It needs to be rotated while while applying pressure.

That was going to be my question, can you rotate the rear piston in by hand ?

Volkswagen just asked for 570$ to change the rear breaks xD

You can do it yourself for less than $150!

VWs are a bunch of clown car engineering with all their unneeded special tools.
