Since you were replacing the rotor, you don’t need to take out the 13 mm bolts holding the sliders. Save some time and just remove the 21 mm bolts and pull the whole carrier and caliper out at the same time. Once you got the whole assembly off the rotor, the carrier and pins will just slide right out of the caliper for cleaning. The 13 mm bolts only have to be removed if you’re pulling the caliper without disturbing the carrier and rotor.
Yup. Works fine that way. Had the opportunity to add grease to the slider pins since they were exposed doing it this way. Cuts down on pad replacement time, too. And, ya can still get at all of the surfaces needing cleaning/brake lube.
scirockalot8v...those Zimmerman rotors have a coating ( Anti-Corrosion Coat Z) on them from the factory and they advise NOT cleaning them (with ANY cleaner) because it will remove the coating which supposedly prevents premature rusting. Thanks for this video very well explained. My Alltrack needs a brake job and I always research before hand just to know what I'm getting into and your video eased the worries.
good video, only thing to comment on is its usually a good idea to put a lug or two back on the disc if you're going to hammer it. you can give it some real good whacks and not worry about it flying off. also, which brake kit did you order?
Quickjack SLX7000. They now have the 7000TL which lifts the vehicle 3 inches higher. This SLX gives you about 20-21in of lift under the car. I bought mine around black Friday from home depot. They run a good sale then.
So, was there a pad wear sensor on the passenger side?. I just got a new set of pads in the mail and was puzzled that there is only one sensor. Can’t really go look at the car right now
you bought a loads of goods for many $$ but cheaped for pair of gloves? Secondly don't ever smear the hub under the rotors - it causes micro wobles of the disc. It is never meant to be disassembled once a week so put it clean surface to clean surface - that's it! Why haven't you clean the rotors before use with brake cleaner? Greasy discs don't run well. Props for suspending the caliper and overall good approach.

Good point. I have yet to try it that way.

Great tutorial! Thank you! I have the same rotors and picked up Akebono pads. About to go do the install for the wife’s AT. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Not a fan of the TRW pads in this kit. One of the fronts cracked in half. I may try the Akebono pads.
@@scirockalot8v arghhh. That’s no good. Hopefully the supplier will warranty them.

After 1 year they start rusting anyway
thanks for the detailed video. I need to get mine done now!! Great job
Is there anything different replacing your brakes if you have manual trans with hill descent control??? Thanks!! Great video!!!
I dont believe so. Only difference is if you have an electronic E-brake.

Great, great video. Which model quickjack are you using?
Curious what that car lift you are using is? Looks handy

Drivers side only has the wire. Some new pads might have both. Just yank the wire out of the pad if its not usable.
