Failure has never been tolerated by the empire. The fact we are all questioning whether or not she will be punished shows how good of a job Tony did to humanize the empire. She is about to get canned as Cyril did. At least that is my expectation.

Remember that Syril didn't go to Ferrix looking for Dedra -- he was looking for Andor. He had no idea she was going to be there, so it wasn't really a matter of stalking, in that case. And he *did* run right out into the line of fire as soon as he saw she was in danger, so he can be pretty heroic when push comes to shove. He's definitely a strange, complex character.

I'm hoping he joins the rebels as a spy. It's the kind of rouge, out of bounds action Dedra might get forced to do and Syril is the kind of guy to go along with it. Plus it would be interesting to see how well he hold up when the empires crimes are shown directly to him in a way he can't deny.

@@MalzraAirwynnI don't think the word "stalk" fits, especially in the sexual/romantic sense. He wanted to talk business with her, first and foremost, and getting in contact with her, an ISB Lieutenant, is not exactly easy (he himself said it). I mean, yeah, his choice of words and awkwardness makes it understandable why she'd feel uncomfortable, but then again, if you were in his shoes, how would you contact Dedra in a quick and reliable way (that doesn't include writing a letter to the ISB which she may not get around to reading in months, if ever)? Remember, "I just wouldn't seek her out" is not a viable answer here. Because I, for one, cannot think of anything better than attempting to physically meet her at a place she's likely to be at. I doubt Meero surfs the Star Wars equivalent of Facebook after work hours (if such a thing even exists in that universe), it's not like Karn can DM her or call her, so...let's not be too quick to point fingers.

I suspect they built up her assistant (Heert) for a reason--he is obviously just as ambitious as she is. She was also warned by Major Partagaz to watch her back. It's also suspicious that Heert was (conveniently) absent from Ferrix for this disaster, thereby escaping any potential blame. My prediction is that Heert will backstab her and move to claim her old job, which will force her to rely on Syril to redeem herself.

but she doesn't look competent to anyone who hasn't the same information we viewers have. i mean her success isn't really stellar as she couldn't prove any of her theories, doesn't matter that she was right when nobody knows it. she didn't get andor, she is responsible for the riot and she still has no clue who axis is or proof that he even exists. and bix escaped, who is the only person who could identify luthen. so her stellar success basically is an unproven theory that lead to nothing, but chaos. don't see why anyone would risk his reputation based on that

I get the feeling the Yularen we see is like many at this point in time, bored of the day-to-day running of the empire and so not 100% convinced of the idea of rebel elements acting out with a degree of coordination. In season two, we may see that change and him becoming the Yularen we see in the Thrawn novel and in Rebels, who is more keenly awake to the rebel activity going on.
There is a funny duality, the finale has the citizens being told to take up to the threat the empire poses, while the empire itself save for a few is asleep as well to the threat a coordinated rebellion poses if allowed to grow.

Dedra is definitely still creeped out by Syril in that scene, but I was on edge the entire time hoping it wouldn't go into falling-for-your-deranged-stalker territory. Thank goodness it didn't, and that might be entirely down to the actors' performances. That doesn't preclude Dedra taking a devil's bargain of an alliance with Syrill. I think she'll still end up in the clear, since she so loudly ordered that there be no shooting, and she can pass the blame back to Blevin for appointing whatsisname guy not in a ballgown as prefect.

If you wish to remain consistent with internal logic both in Andor and ISB, Dedra should face the consequences. Her ISB boss told her she should watch her back, so if there are no consequences, it would contradict what was established about ISB. Also, she failed as bad a Syril did on Ferrix earlier. On a surface level, they appear to be the typical teacher's pet conformists, but a closer look shows their rebellious and individualistic natures - Karn customizes his uniform and Meero talks out of line with her superiors. They both go out of their way and do things outside of their authorization, in their pursuit of justice for the greater good. Dedra's failure (on the same planet, pursuing the same man), and her facing the consequences for it, is yet another parallel between her and Syril.

I don't think they'll kill her off by the start of Season 2, but she'll definitely be thrown under the bus by the ISB.
Which might kickstart an entire arc of her and Syrill being on the run, but contrary to Andor and the rest of the cast, they will be trying to find a way to "redeem themselves" in the eyes of the Empire. Like capturing Andor once and for all, or trying to expose the entire Rebel Alliance.
Which will inevitably fail and eventually result in Dedra's death, or Syrill's or both, but that's not happening until around the SECOND HALF of Season 2, that's what I believe at least.

Granted she had nothing directly to do with homeboy losing his crap and flipping over B and inciting the riot. But clearly she is a perfect scapegoat for this. Dedra's best course of action is to throw Partagaz's words back at him when he said ISB doesn't handle security, that's for the military. The Imperial Army was "in control" of security regarding the funeral, but it all went completely out of control when a much larger crowd than allowed showed up sooner than allowed. Dedra could blame Captain Tigo claiming that he allowed everything to descend into chaos despite his earlier assurances of what the army had planned for control over the funeral. Dedra cannot do her job and the job of the Imperial Army.

He is the one who inflamed the crowd and pulled all his guards away from the hotel (leaving Andor free to rescue Bix). not to mention sending one lone stormtrooper to climb all those stairs only to take the elevator down. Her superiors may see the event as proof that she's on to something big, justifying her actions to date. On the flips ide, she may get seriously demoted and then join Karn on his crusade to find Andor and bring him in (they become a sort of vigilante duo out for revenge). Either way, she isn't going away. My guess is the former: she'll be even more powerful inside the ISB and will reward Karn by bringing him into the organization.

A word about Syril and his feelings for Dedra:
At the end of Ep.3 we see a man in shock. At the very beginning of Ep.5, what you see is a man contemplating suicide. In Ep.9, we see a man who thinks he's found his saviour:
"I thought I had ruined my life. I thought I was done... Just being in your presence, I’ve realized that life is worth living."
When he sees her in Ep.12, "She's here. It's her." And then the way he sprints towards the danger. When she asks him, "How?" he responds simply "You were in trouble."
The way he feels for Dedra runs super-deep. He doesn't believe in himself, but he does have a deranged belief that there is something better fated for him in the future, and Dedra is now the key to a dream worth clinging to. He can sense it. He knows it. He's out of his mind.

  • @akotarakz
    @akotarakz 2 роки тому +1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there was nothing mentioned about deploying "everything" for "show of force" when the officers discussed the plan earlier. Keysax said they would have three control positions, snipers and a containment unit. Dedra eliminated the snipers from the plan, so only a containment unit (to apprehend Cassian) and the control positions to secure a corridor for the containment unit to move Cassian into the hotel after they capture him.
As soon as things didn't go as planned (funeral starting early and recon units reporting more civilians than allowed), Tigo ordered everything out of the hotel to display some kind of "force". Had he not ordered that, but only prepared defensive positions inside the hotel and the nearby buildings overlooking it, things would have went smoother. His second mistake was to get angry at the anti-imperial speech, attacking the people's event and igniting the whole process faster and earlier. Dedra had absolutely nothing to do with Tigo's psychological incompetence.
Logically, if someone is to blame, that would be Tigo. But we all know Dedra has no back, besides Partagaz (depending on the situation, because I think he will not defend her if he sees his superiors angry at her, in order to avoid putting himself in the hatelist as well), and she will get the big pipe by getting blamed for failing her mission AND causing a riot.
Personally, I would be more afraid if I see the Empire deploying ONLY a few squads and being silent during the anti-imperial speech, because I would expect them to react just like Tigo did. I would be thinking something is not right here and even if I had plans to storm the hotel, I migh start doubting about it, since all the troopers I've seen around the city for so long are no longer visible around the city.
And if the people were going to attack anyways, if the troops were in defensive positions in the hotel and the nearby buildings, overlooking the hotel, the rioters would be boxed outside on the street where they would've been even easier targets, because they would bunch up in front of the hotel doors. Even if they manage to break in, the imperials could use the corridors as death traps to shoot or roll in some of those grenades that they carried on the speeder for "show of force".
    L for Tigo....

You make some good points, particularly about Tigo. I like that character a lot. Really well cast, and well portrayed. Tall, good looking, young, privileged, and acts like a spoiled brat. He'd sell out Dedra to save his own skin in an instant. He may be protected by nepotism as well.
Personally, I think Dedra ends up in a cage on the Outer Rim, and Syril joins the rebellion to find her. (Did Luthen recognize Syril and did he overhear Syril saying, "She's here. It's her."? He makes an expression, like dots are connecting in an unexpected way. Or am I just imagining that?)

    • @akotarakz

@@thedispatcher01 I don't think Luthen recognized Syril. He has seen him only from the back in a few meters distance and couldn't even care about him, as he said to Andor "kill him". For Luthen, Syril was just a random task force commander NPC on the map.
But I think he heard "she's here" by the expression on his face. From his point of view, a random said it and he was too invested in scoping out for Andor to care who was the random that knew Dedra.

Awesome insights BUT! The rebel network that Dedra imagines (lots of parts disappearing) is not the actual rebel network, she literally just got lucky by picking up on a single anomaly, Cassian. Even Luthen is happy about her thinking this, because those other "thefts" have nothing to do with him.
So really, this entire story is a series of random chance happenings; Cassian being hassled by the two corpos, Syril being a random guy who doesn't let it go when even his supervisor says so, the imagined connection of the missing equipment which has nothing to with a rebel network (Cassian just stole it for cash), and on and on. Even Marva coming across Cassian as a child was a chance happening. I think we'll start to see how chance continues to play a stronger and more obvious role in this series in the next season.

Then again, I don’t know that she could have fully anticipated the depth of insurrection that was brewing on Ferrix. In fact, I don’t think Luthen even calculated what was going to happen. He was there to make an easy assassination of Cassian as soon as the ISB took him into custody. I think Dedra expected a relatively clean arrest and Luthen expected a relatively easy kill shot. After the uprising, they both appeared to be bewildered and shaken Dedra more so than Luthen of course. Guess what though? They both failed! Luthen came out the winner due to sheer dumb luck and Cassian’s ability to infiltrate his secure little world of secrecy. LOL

*_Yeah, I need to lay off the coffee a little._* 😅

agreed. the writers are setting up having Dedra and Syril be a socially awkward duo of rogue amateur police.

Nightcrawler was so well done, but very dark view of humanity. The connection to this show makes sense 😂

Dedra is now Cyril's baby momma! Did you notice that Sargent Tactical Blueberry saw the proverbial "sock on the door" then sat down outside to wait.

I didn't see that actually and still don't. What I see:
Linus is still sitting on the same steps, giving a side eye to the direction Syril would be coming from. He's clearly been there awhile. The dust has settled. Three people walk casually by, not in any rush. He takes a swig of his flask and then looks at it, indicating that it's nearly empty. He puffs his cheek in a heavy sigh of acceptance. What I don't see is Syril's hat. Linus isn't wearing it, and in fact it's nowhere to be seen in the shot. Syril isn't coming back. Sadly, this is the end of the story for Linus Mosk.

I'm pretty confident that the rest of ISB is gonna look down at her and possibly worse for the Ferrix revolt. She was the one who was so interested in the planet and fought to get control of it, in a way her storyline mirrors Syril's in the first few episodes

The truly scary thing is if a single Storm Commando team had been deployed, there would be no season 2 for Andor. A commando team would have simply surveilled the position, quietly picked up Andor and turned him over to an Imperial Interrogation team. But instead of filling in the requisition forms for a specialist team, Dedra HAD to get involved with all the overkill we know and love the Empire for.

I don't know if Storm Commandos actually exist in canon. But a squad of Shadow Troopers could've been nice... Or maybe a squad of Death Troopers where one member doesn't get disarmed by civilians.

She is ISB and is basically a political officer. Most political offers aren't technically in charge, so I doubt she will take the most of blame for the debacle. It may work in her favor if her superiors realize there is a larger threat to the Empire

I think that's what they're implying, especially since it was Syril, someone whose career trajectory crashed and burned after a similar incident in the exact same place, who rescued her from the melee. And since they both want to get their hands on Cassian, perhaps they'll go rogue and team up to find him. I also think there's an opportunity for make Dedra extremely bitter with the Empire. 1.) She'll no doubt be scapegoated for the uprising on Ferrix. 2. There was a brief scene with Blevin discussing Mon Mothma with the driver/spy. I presumed he was dismissed or reassigned somewhere undesirable. But that quick scene showed he was very much up to some high stakes stuff. So I think that these elements could turn Dedra into some sort of anti-hero duo in the next season.

I think that if we ever see Dedra again, she either have been demoted or fired. The one year time jump is a perfect set up. Just imagine what could happen in a year. Look at how much happens to Andor in just a few months, he kills multiple people, helps in the Aldahni raid and incites a prison riot.

Yeah I doubt they’re gonna start off a year later with her being super successful, especially not after she failed so massively the previous episode

My personal theory that I've had since I finished the finale is that Syril will replace the attendant that was shanked by Cinta. I don't feel like they would have just killed him off for no reason, And I believe with this, Dedra and Syril will direct the blame from Ferrix to the Imperial Prefect and his Staff Sergeant, since they are completely liable and could be great scapegoats for them. And I believe Major Partagaz will eventually promote Dedra to Captain, giving her a 4 square blue plaque, and she will give the position of lieutenant, her current rank, to Syril. That's just my theory though.

How do you think Heert and Syril will co-exist under Dedra? It's dedication vs. devotion. I don't see a clean fight.

I can see why all the comments are saying what they are saying BUT in a recent interview Denise hinted that Dedra has a bigger part in season 2 and that she cannot wait to play Dedra again.. her comment was ' I'm going to Dedra the hell out of season 2'... Which sounds amazing and means we can relish even more of her incredible acting. Bring on Dedra!!
