I feel any very detailed advise about how you start to find model plans and how to hire qualified, certified reputable contractors for most everything that needs to be done, as opposed to doing much of the planning and building yourself. I believe most people either have no training to do any of this type of hands-on work so quality will probably suffer greatly, or just don't have the time to dedicate to not only actually building items, but first learning how to do many of the jobs, and then the inevitable time and money that gets wasted when having to repeat poorly done jobs. Also bringing on experts to discuss how to protect ourselves legally when hiring work to be done on our property, and how to handle payments to workers to avoid being ripped off would be very beneficial.

Buying the lift was a great idea. Bill the billionaire in Austin was quoted rental on a "T" crane for his home build over 2 years and then asked what you did. How much to simply buy a used one, and his contractor stated, those are almost impossible to find. Bill realized, well that means if I sell one used then price is high. How much is a new one? What is the difference? What is the total to rent for 2 years? HELL, I will buy one. Rent it to you to use, and that creates creative taxing and other opportunities, and then Bill sold it back into the used market and made a net profit on equipment. Keep your options and mind open to what can be accomplished.

I priced similar but smaller in a couple of cities/states. If you're lucky to get anything approved in good weather areas, it costs WAY MORE than you paid for any of those estimates. Some places can't find contractors. Even offering cash, get screwed. We decided to stay & suffer where we are. Maybe when I die my kid could move to another country to actually enjoy life.
Oh you guys! I just discovered yall for the first time by watching this video. Your house looks great! The colors are so nice! And the price is fantastic! Especially love the idea of the 2x6's instead of 2x4's and the thicker concrete!
I love your home and all the thought and work you put into it. Wrap around porches make perfect sense in the South or anywhere it gets hot. Very smart.😊
Hey, you two, great video, thank you for this! I tend to believe things hit at the right time when looking for answers and I only found your channel a week ago and today you posted this video right as my wife and I are planning to move next year. Taking this year to save up and decide between buying or building. So, this was an eye opener and even though I am a beginner DIYer, I will probably have to pay someone else to do most of it, this gives me hope at certain area's that I can save some money myself. I recently got new gutters on my house in 2022, 4-inch gutters, seamless, and I was charged over 5k, my house is only 1000 sq ft, but when you mentioned your gutter price, my eyes got big lol. But I wouldn't be able to do those myself ;). Either way congrats and thank you for the insight and advice of your progress.
Shop around, get multiple quotes and pay cash when you can. Those made HUGE differences in the quotes I was getting. The housing market was just so big that contractors were tossing out ridiculous bids and most people were taking them without any question. For example one person quoted me $5k labor on my shower tile, the next guy quoted me $1k..... I mean come on, how is there that much difference? Another person quoted me $8k labor to lay 1700 sq ft of flooring. I did it by myself in 4 days if I remember correctly. Apparently $2k a day is what some people think they should make. It's insane out there, don't get taken advantage of.
@@TKCL Exactly, I got 16 new, simple basic windows in my house, no bay windows or anything crazy, it was over $15k, when you said your price, my jaw dropped lol. I'm still learning, but yea I have learned a lot these past 10 years at this house. Learned electrical and getting multiple quotes. Had a Gen contractor bid for a basement bathroom remodel $5k when 3 other companies told me $18 to $21k, I was like why such a huge difference. His tactic was me as the Homeowner would buy all the materials needed, so he won't mark them up and I only pay him for labor. So still cost around 10k total, but huge compared to the other companies. But like your house, we are looking for something outside of the city, on some land, but I work IT and work from home 90% of the time, so need to be able to have a strong internet, which is when I found your channel putting up your routers with external antennas. So, yea, lots of discussions between my wife and I still to narrow down location, wants, and needs. As long as we get the house functional at the beginning, we can add on to it in the future, so we don't go fully broke on day 1 ;). but seriously thank you for your comment and input. Appreciate you!
The wrap about overhang and slab is pure genius. I think I would have had a 6ft gap between the house roof and the overall roof as the sun hammering heat in the winter would have a air gap from the house to help reduce thermal transfere. I am sure an engineer would explain how that would be harder though. Blocking the house from rain and UV is worth its weight in gold. The thumbnail got my attention for that design and I can only say again. . .GENIUS!
Wow! I was expecting the total to be so much more. We enjoyed watching you build your house. Y’all did an Amazing job. Can’t wait to see the pool build.
THANK YOU FOR TELLING PEOPLE HOW TO DO A ROOF PROPERLY!! I disliked the last video that did that shit... so lazy and cheap will fail in a few years where the screws miss and didn't suck tight to the metal.
Hello Andrew Outdoor kitchen build start to finish, is superb great attention to detail and explanation through out. Over engineered well yes! but is there any other way to make a build last, the cost of the kitchen is no doubt a huge investment in the appeal and functionality of your home. Well sir you claim not to be a professional but with the commitment to detail and love put into each task, so no your not because they wouldn't have the time to achieve such quality of finish. So not blowing smoke just credit where credit is due my friend 👏👏👏👏 KR🇬🇧
Andrew and Tiffany, another EXCELLENT video and THANK YOU!! For sharing all you did, your numbers are VERY realistic for this time period and watching you build your home has been very helpful and inspirational! My boys and I are planning on start our home in March and hope I have everything lined up. You are so right about the process and can’t wait to see your new series. I am surprised even when going to the county and asking about the process how uninformed those folks seem to be. I have been to the permitting office numerous times before I get the ‘whole’ picture on what is required. These folks do this every day!! And don’t know the steps in the process. Again thank you for your excellent explanations and I look forward to the process project coming!!
Well, with the roof over the roof is awesome idea. We did that on our camper years ago. Vacation place. Best investment ever. Made plenty of room to cook outside. All 1 level decking. After viewing your place, we would go for metal trusses next time. it just looks so clean.
Your home is beautiful! I love the extended wrap around porch. I just found this and started following so I have a lot of catch up to do to watch all these projects.
I wish I could do all the work you did. I can and will do the electrical, HVAC and help with the plumbing. I could hang the cabinets, not even attempting drywall. My plan is pay to get house put “ in the dry”. Do the sub work I can and work with friends to do the rest. My plan is to spend the most on standing seam or no seam metal roof, air sealing, insulation and windows / doors. Low maintenance and low utility costs for our retirement home. You have given me good ideas
Hello , and wow after watching your video I was very impressed of your break down and seeing it was affordable, granted you did most of the work yourself !
You both are very inspirational. This is the first of your videos I have watched. I’m going to watch the others. Thanks to you both for sharing this part of your life. My wife and I want to build our own house on a piece of property. I’ve just retired from 30 years of teaching and started a handyman business to stay busy and to see if I’m up to this challenge. Also will move to a more affordable part of the country. We are in San Antonio and the land prices have skyrocketed, as have the taxes!
Thank you. Just thank you, I needed this video!!! I am getting ready to build my first home with my family, and this was a great, realistic break down.
FANTASTIC video man! My wife and I are breaking ground on our custom home ( barn dominium ) this week in Arkansas and your video was EXTREMELY helpful! Instant sub...
Very practical, l used the same design 40 years ago in North Central Australia. Temperature averaged 30°C, so shade year round and great air flow saved our sanity. Room for vehicles in the shade and concrete floor made a big difference, especially with a serviving Pitt. Rainwater tanks were also under shade, outdoor cooking in camp oven's. Concrete was the biggest cost as it was a long dry haul and water mixed on site. Well done.
Good review Andrew. Tiffany I agree those two custom windows in the living room make the room, money well spent. Enjoyed the whole build. Andrew finished product turned out fantastic, would love to have the same myself. Good luck moving forward. 👍👍. ❤️❤️. 🇨🇦
Gave me some ideas as I’m looking to build. I might have used the water from the roof to help create a pond. I like the green color, but I have taste. Your lovely wife was absolutely correct on the windows. Love the porch and outdoor space and the pavilion shape. Maybe a larger concrete slab with roof for parking in the back of the house. Overall great job.
Wow I was so close at sayin 180k , wife said $155 . Was great to watch the whole process of the build . Learned a lot myself , you for sure have a well built very nice home 100% . By the way did we revert figure out who guessed the right move in date ?
WOWOW!!👏🏼❤️great job!!! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful WELL BUILT home with us & for sharing all the cost info!-so inspiring & so helpful.🙌🏼
Inside of the home looks like it is very nice and well-built!! But what I really like is the outdoor living space that you have!! I could close my eyes and imagine what it would be like to be outdoors with a light rain on a cool summer day!! That outdoor kitchen is perfect!! My two brothers have property that they use for a weekend getaway. If I were to build out there I would want to do one exactly like the one that you have only maybe a little smaller!! My thoughts are this is the "best of indoor living outdoors!!
Those wooden poles that hold the roof, when it hits the concrete at the bottom, I thought the concrete touched the wood. When wood touches that concrete over time, it rots. Evaluate a metal plate or something over the concrete on which the wood sits on.
6” wall trick is to stagger 2x4 posts 24” on center. Lumber in walls can be rough cut and it’s always cheaper to purchase direct from lumber mill than box stores.
Staggering and that spacing won't pass in a hurricane zone and especially for my end balloon walls. The engineer was adamant I use 12 inch spacing or he wouldn't stamp the plans for our wind zone.
Beautiful! My husband and I just built our entire home minus the concrete ourselves. We also built a extra large 1 bedroom to downsize but we do have a full basement for family room/bathroom office and storage. Love Love yalls home, it's gorgeous! I really love the huge cover over the home and the concrete all around the house. No matter the weather it's dry!!! Thanks for sharing
Great job and looks amazing! I don’t blame you for subbing out the sheet rock, I spent a weekend at my work, “trying “ to learn, lol. Trust me, it is an art lol!
Yes!! kitchen quotes are like 15-25K, small bath 5-8K, master bath 12-18K...hurricane windows in Miami 20-45K...is insane what some areas/cities are charging and people are PAYING FIR THEM!! 😳 Labor cost is insane on price gouging...cement and rebars up the roof!! Paint cost is like drilling an oil well😄🔥🔥🔥Beautiful Home guys!! God bless and enjoy your hardworking efforts!!

Welcome to the channel! Thanks for watching
I love your home and all the thought and work you put into it. Wrap around porches make perfect sense in the South or anywhere it gets hot. Very smart.😊
Thank you
Hey, you two, great video, thank you for this!
I love the fact that you DIY'D your home..I wouldn't have designed it like you did but to each his/her own if you love it, I love it for you 💥💥💥💥💥
Beautiful build out. Congrats on the excellent outcome and a very reasonable bottom line outcome
Thank you for watching
The wrap about overhang and slab is pure genius. I think I would have had a 6ft gap between the house roof and the overall roof as the sun hammering heat in the winter would have a air gap from the house to help reduce thermal transfere. I am sure an engineer would explain how that would be harder though. Blocking the house from rain and UV is worth its weight in gold. The thumbnail got my attention for that design and I can only say again. . .GENIUS!
Thank you for watching
Amazing build and mad respect for that attic space!
Thank you for watching
I am really impressed with what you have accomplished in the last couple of years
Thank you Brock, it's been quite the journey.
Wow! I was expecting the total to be so much more. We enjoyed watching you build your house. Y’all did an Amazing job. Can’t wait to see the pool build.
Thank you for watching.
THANK YOU FOR TELLING PEOPLE HOW TO DO A ROOF PROPERLY!! I disliked the last video that did that shit... so lazy and cheap will fail in a few years where the screws miss and didn't suck tight to the metal.
You guys did a great job! You did an amazing build. I like the fact that you left room to expand inside and out. ❤
Thank you for watching
Absolutely awesome video. You even answered my question as to how thick the concrete slab was. THANK YOU.
Glad you enjoyed it
You both did an amazing job to have your dream house. Congratulations! You inspire me!
Thank you very much
Hello Andrew
Outdoor kitchen build start to finish, is superb great attention to detail and explanation through out.
Appreciate the kind words, thank you!
Thank you for watching and the support. Glad you enjoyed it
Well, with the roof over the roof is awesome idea. We did that on our camper years ago. Vacation place. Best investment ever. Made plenty of room to cook outside. All 1 level decking. After viewing your place, we would go for metal trusses next time. it just looks so clean.
Thank you for watching
Your home is beautiful! I love the extended wrap around porch. I just found this and started following so I have a lot of catch up to do to watch all these projects.
Thank you for watching and the support
I wish I could do all the work you did. I can and will do the electrical, HVAC and help with the plumbing. I could hang the cabinets, not even attempting drywall. My plan is pay to get house put “ in the dry”. Do the sub work I can and work with friends to do the rest. My plan is to spend the most on standing seam or no seam metal roof, air sealing, insulation and windows / doors. Low maintenance and low utility costs for our retirement home. You have given me good ideas
You have wise choices.
Loved the candor and applaud your effortts, wonderful couple making a home and life together - congrats and thank you for posting this!
Thank you for watching
Hello , and wow after watching your video I was very impressed of your break down and seeing it was affordable, granted you did most of the work yourself !
Thank you for watching
You both are very inspirational. This is the first of your videos I have watched. I’m going to watch the others. Thanks to you both for sharing this part of your life. My wife and I want to build our own house on a piece of property. I’ve just retired from 30 years of teaching and started a handyman business to stay busy and to see if I’m up to this challenge. Also will move to a more affordable part of the country. We are in San Antonio and the land prices have skyrocketed, as have the taxes!
Thank you, another owner builder video out this afternoon. Thanks for watching
Great video , that's a terrific breakdown of all the cost that went into this home. I commend you for the hard work that you put into it looks great!!
Thank you
Thank you. Just thank you, I needed this video!!! I am getting ready to build my first home with my family, and this was a great, realistic break down.
Glad you enjoyed it
Outstanding video. Great tour and information.
Thank you
FANTASTIC video man! My wife and I are breaking ground on our custom home ( barn dominium ) this week in Arkansas and your video was EXTREMELY helpful! Instant sub...
Glad you enjoyed it. Over 200 videos of the build on the channel.
@@TKCL Yessir. Watching them now
Very practical, l used the same design 40 years ago in North Central Australia.
Well done.
I'm going to do the same buil but half the size.I Love your Home! Especially the 70 x 40 roof dome that provides endless add on all around
great idea, the roof extending out like a veranda, catch breeze and block direct sun.
We love it
Wow, y'all have done a beautiful job. Really nice home. Love the outside kitchen and all the covered porch area.
Thank you very much
You should write a book with spreadsheets included along with checklists.
Your house looks amazing!!😍 Thank you for showcasing our cabinets!!
Your absolutely welcome, we recommend you all the time. Keep making well made cabinets people can afford.
Money well spent you two. Thank you for the numbers. Long as you two are happy that’s what matters in the end.
Good review Andrew. Tiffany I agree those two custom windows in the living room make the room, money well spent. Enjoyed the whole build. Andrew finished product turned out fantastic, would love to have the same myself. Good luck moving forward. 👍👍. ❤️❤️. 🇨🇦
Thank you very much
Gave me some ideas as I’m looking to build. I might have used the water from the roof to help create a pond. I like the green color, but I have taste. Your lovely wife was absolutely correct on the windows. Love the porch and outdoor space and the pavilion shape. Maybe a larger concrete slab with roof for parking in the back of the house. Overall great job.
Love it, love it, love it wish you were close to me very knowledgeable!
Wow I was so close at sayin 180k , wife said $155 . Was great to watch the whole process of the build . Learned a lot myself , you for sure have a well built very nice home 100% . By the way did we revert figure out who guessed the right move in date ?
Yes it was 6 people if I remember correctly, we did a live stream and gave gifts out last April.
@@TKCL not sure how I missed that one but anyways . Congratulations to you and Tiffany on a beautiful home .
WOWOW!!👏🏼❤️great job!!! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful WELL BUILT home with us & for sharing all the cost info!-so inspiring & so helpful.🙌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
This house was built specifically for the porch and outdoor kitchen. We have a deck and pool coming soon. My wife and I are outdoors people.
I've followed y'all for this entire build. Congratulations on building a solid, safe home.
Thank you for watching
Those wooden poles that hold the roof, when it hits the concrete at the bottom, I thought the concrete touched the wood. When wood touches that concrete over time, it rots. Evaluate a metal plate or something over the concrete on which the wood sits on.
It's all about drainage and keeping the area from puddling water.
Absolutely awesome. You definitely are an inspiration. You did very well indeed.
Thank you very much
6” wall trick is to stagger 2x4 posts 24” on center.
Thank you for watching
Great job and looks amazing! I don’t blame you for subbing out the sheet rock, I spent a weekend at my work, “trying “ to learn, lol. Trust me, it is an art lol!
Thank yall for sharing, really appreciate it!
You bet!
Yes!! kitchen quotes are like 15-25K, small bath 5-8K, master bath 12-18K...hurricane windows in Miami 20-45K...is insane what some areas/cities are charging and people are PAYING FIR THEM!! 😳 Labor cost is insane on price gouging...cement and rebars up the roof!! Paint cost is like drilling an oil well😄🔥🔥🔥Beautiful Home guys!! God bless and enjoy your hardworking efforts!!
Thank you very much and God bless!
I’m so proud of you, all your hard work! I am happy just watching your program and seeing how much joy you have in your beautiful home. Reminds me how people were after WWII, happy with friends and family and thankful for what God had provided and makes me happy to be a witness to your blessings. Your hard work has paid off. May God grant you many long years to enjoy your house and family. Thank you for the tour and DIY cost breakdown. I think you are an amazing young man. God bless you!
Thank you very much, God bless!
I think you did well on the construction and the cost. Good job.
Thank you
Id call it a mansion, its got all I would ever want or need. Thanks for sharing/
Thank you for watching
beautiful, simple, efficiency, and I Iove the American Flag in the middle of the yard, very patriotic. How many acres? it looks huge
We have a little over 50 acres, love the peace and quiet.
That’s amazing you did so good I didn’t think it was going to be that cheap. I love the idea of roof decking for the spray foam👌
Thank you for watching
Bravo! Absolutely well done!
Hard to piggy back what others have said. Still impressed with your end product.
Thank you very much
Andrew, I've watched all of your house-build videos and you did a great job, my brother! A jack of all trades kind of guy with some perfectionism built in. We'd get along great! It's been my dream to buy land and build my own home and farm. I appreciate that you explained many things in detail and were particular and meticulous about it. You built a beautiful and strong home and I bet your wife is grateful and proud of you. Great job, Andrew! Keep going, brother!
Wow, thanks! That was a lot of watching you did. Best of luck with your dream, keep after it.
Well Done, compared to some other "DIY"ers on UA-cam, it was nice to watch you actually 'do it yourself' throughout! And your right, without COVID PANIC you easily would have spent half of what you did if not more, truely well done!
Thank you very much for watching.
I love but I want a smaller two bedroom one, and love the overhang, but would like a wrap around porch.
Very easy to modify this design.
Excellent recap. Looking forward to visiting one of these days. You certainly have something to be proud of.
Andrew , you did an absolutely fantastic job on the entire building of the house and the breakdown of costs. Had Covid not hit I’m sure you have had substantial savings with your material cost. You have a house that will last a lifetime. And they’re really cool part is you have video documentation of the entire process.
It's been an awesome ride, far from over! More to come
Wow great for you and You Tube paid you a little. Congrats on the live y'all have created for your self.
Correct and it gave me awesome tax write-offs.
Also with the pad build the outside foundation thicker and center thin
Can't, have to comply with engineering.
The massive porch is such a good idea. Looks awesome
Thank you, we love it.
