- What a journey, 13 months to build our own home and we condense all the footage down to a 20 minute timelapse for your viewing pleasure. We had zero house building experience before deciding to become our own general contractor and builder of our new barndo home.

NO experience my ass
Your attitude is exactly why so many never achieve anything. I have zero experience in the construction trades and I've never built a house. I don't make excuses, I learn, I try, I fail and I try again. Suggest you do the same with anything you desire in life.
@@TKCL I mean *_Technically_* speaking, you HAD, zero experience. *_Now_* you have plenty. :)
@@TKCL What's your day job?
Now its social media, before I was a manager at a pulp mill.
Chill bru @gavintaylor No experience doesn't mean he doesn't have knowledge. 😄 if you have the kind of mentality he have, you can build anything.
YOU BUILT!... with some help. Going to sound strange, this video gets me emotional. Imagine being your offspring and knowing that my dad built the house that is the home of my life... you're their hero. You're a king man!
Funny you mentioned that, my dad pretty much built my childhood home while working in the woods logging trees for income. Hard to build a house after working a full time job, but he figured it out. Thanks for watching.
Amazing job my dream is to do this hopefully some day God will bless me with the resources,I have the skills
I’m impressed! Your husband has some serious skills to be able to complete all the different tasks needed to build this home from the framing, plumbing, electrical, flooring, cabinets, and definitely all the metal work and welding. Very nice!!
Thank you
I was expecting 300000 or more. It gives me hope. You are a genius for all the extras you did
Thank you! I was able to keep costs low by doing the majority myself and by contracting out the few jobs I did by getting multiple quotes. The price differences were unbelievable, it pays to get multiple quotes on goods and labor.
I watched again and it blows my mind ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍🙏🦘🇦🇺🇺🇸
I started watching you on the outdoor kitchen build. But man job well done. All that hard work has paid off!
Thank you for watching
Amigo, you must be proud of yourself! Looks like you did most of the work, which means you're a very skilled person. I can do it all except gas pipes and welding. I have dream of building my house all by myself one day, but, one, i don't have money, and two, it will take me forever! 😂😂 CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR HOUSE IS AWESOME.
Thank you, I do feel proud of this accomplishment.
Brother you are the best real talk
You have built a beautiful home, inside and out
Thank you
Brother, nothing but sheer will and determination can achieve that! Most will never comprehend what it physically requires to achieve what you have in this home. To see that you’ve done 98% solo, is incredible. You deserve every pleasure this home will bring y’all. Your chest should swell with pride for what you’ve accomplished. Personally, I’ve been in the building industry my entire life and wholeheartedly, wanted to congratulate you for making your dreams , reality. Lastly, there are many diy channels out there but you are top tier, and more than worthy to run an informative platform. Wish you the best and pray that you and your wife enjoy the fruits of your labors for many years to come.
Thank you so much for the support! I agree, it takes something not found nowadays, determination to achieve a goal.
What a great video!!
Thank you for watching and the constant support.
Hi, Andrew! Great video!! It must have taken a long time to edit. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, about 16 hours 😬
It was amazing to watch the videos of y'all bringing your dream to life with your own hands. And also taking the time to explain the process of what you were doing as you were yourself learning to do it. Andrew, you and Tiffany have created a life for yourselves that I hope to one day accomplish myself and I thank you for bringing all of us along that ride through your videos.
Thank you very much for the support and kind words.
so freaking impressed....Mad skill Sir!
Thank you
Fi folks this house is in my opinion one of a kind and I love as Man I built my own home it was blood sweat tears ,but I loved it your house my friend is very very nice I love it you put in some hard yakka God Bless your family ❤️❤️👍🙏💪💪⚒️🪜🦘
Thank you
It’s amazing how many skills you use to make your home thank you for sharing your story with us and I look forward to seeing what you do next
It's a lot when you think about it.
Mahogany Bamboo floor boards over patio with pot lights is amazing.... nice sweat equity! #PLandemicPapertowels
wow,nice.a work of art.
i am more than impressed with the work that gone in to this
Thank you for watching
Love your outside space
It's our favorite part of the house.
OMG!!!!!!!! All I can say is That's Impressive!!! You are a master!!
Thank you for watching
It was smart to build from the top down. Not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be done but it was smart to keep the foundation dry and give you a good shady place to work.
That's how these barns go up, it makes working in the shade nice.
Wow great work 🙏😇 congratulations
Thank you
Wow, your a stud dude! Happy wife I’m sure! Don
Amazing!!!
You are really good a making things. Especially those metal stairs. I saw the comment that the person left that you have pinned, I too thought man he must work in the construction trade to know off of that, but you are right. With a little motivation, you can do just about anything you set your mind to. Great job.
Thank you for watching
What a great walk down memory lane. Awesome.
Thank you for watching
congratulations, nice job !!!
Thank you
I like to look at different buildings, been doing it for many years. This is my all time favorite home construction! Great job.
Thank you
Boy, you were really movin in this video Andrew 🤣
Awesome just scratches the surface!!!!!!!! Beyond words, I enjoyed watching your video!!!!😃👍 liked and subbed 😃👍
Thank you for watching
Definitely, built the heck out of that place.
Post frame building with full 2x6 exterior framing.
Almost like framing 2 houses.
Then spray foam to lock everything together.
Only thing I would have done differently is put the posts on an insulated foundation rather than burying them. I don't like burying wood.
I agree, but our engineer wouldn't pass our hurricane wind zone without them being buried. You get a lot more shear strength buried. Yes it comes at a cost of rot. We've done a lot to offset that.
i would say this video is one of your favorites! to come so far and progress forward. you two are very blessed!
We are blessed! Take care
@@TKCL ❤️
Inspiring
That's cool!!
That was one of the best videos I have seen on youtube. My wife and I enjoyed this immensely. You sir are incredibly talented.
I'm looking forward to future videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very awesome..
Thank you for watching
Beautiful home! I especially love the iron work and stairs
Thank you so much
Very nice work!
Thank you
Wow!
Amazing, this is art!
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing ❤
Absolutely breathtaking homestead great job Andrew & Tiffany, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for watching
respect
very nice sir!
Thank you
Man, this is so cool to see. In the breakdown video you said you had to do 2x6 12"oc to meet hurricane code; I'm thinking about moving back to FL for the long term of my life and was wondering if you thought or knew whether or not a staggered stud design would qualify since I would be looking to maximize noise and HVAC insulation.
My idea (not plans yet since I don't even have a job or savings at the moment) is to run 2x8 plates with 2x6 staggered 24"oc per "side" (or the same design but one size down, so 2x6 plates and 2x4 studs) which would effectively put *_A_* structural piece every 12", but half of them would touch the outside and the other half would touch the inside wall. This de-couples the interior from the exterior, and even though it isn't a FULL decoupling like a true double wall would be, it's said to provide a measurable effect compared to standard construction.
If you don't know, but also don't _think_ this would qualify, do you think 16"oc staggered (so, a structural piece every 8" half on ext, half on int) would? Or do you think it's meaningless to speak hypotheticals and I should just ask someone who knows the code for certain when the time comes?
I do not know, it's what my engineer required for the end walls. 16 oc for my side walls.
Just by chance found and subscripted. So impressed I will dig much deeper into your content. I have built a 25 by 12 metre pig sty with concrete posts and truss roof as a loner. Now I plan our farmhouse and many of your ideas answer my main unknowns. Thank you so much.
Oh, main difference, I am an Australian living in rural Thailand. Believe it makes a difference!!
Welcome to the channel, hundreds of videos of me building our home.
@@TKCL With your skill set and an abundance of local workers ready to work under your direction for less than $20 a day, If you were here you would do well. Timber here expensive and termites hungry, I look to steel framing
Thank you I will keep watching/catching up.
Amazing progress. The house really looks awesome in the end. 🤠
Thank you
No experience my ass 😂 meanwhile I struggle to put together a IKA bookshelf, I was smiling from ear to ear watching this, congratulations on the life you created for yourself and your family
There is nothing more impressive than watching an actual Jack of all trades building an entire house!
Well done!
Thanks for watching!
That looked easy. It doesn't show the blood, sweat, and tears (and dollars), but mostly sweat.
No it doesn't.
So cool seeing the house built again. Excellent job Andrew
Oh my God that is so much nicer than all of these crappy sheds that people are building to live in
That was great Andrew. I've watched every episode from the beginning. Been a viewer longer than that tho.
Thanks.
Did You ever fix the Droopy shelf in the Pantry ? 3rd from the Floor, far right HAHAHAHA
'Mike M.
Lol I don't notice it anymore. Now I've got to go look.
@@TKCL HAAHAHAHA....
Im only dissapointed in the little footage we got of the chocolate puppy 😊
He's on alot of current videos 😉
Sure hope you guys put in energy recovery ventilation to account for how air-tight that house is.
Nope, put in a whole house dehumidifier with 6 inch fresh air intake. Essentially does the same thing. Dehumidifier made the most sense for our area.
@@TKCL awesome! Glad you guys did your homework.
Awesome build, despite the thumbnail “NO experience”, a tad misleading, no?
Nope, not misleading. Never built a house or worked in the construction trades.
Are you a contractor by trade? Your skill sets are amazing!
Nope, this was my first house ever. No construction experience prior other than home DIY stuff over the years.
@@TKCL Impressive
Looks amazing have one question tho what’s to keep the concrete from sweating and rotting out you’re post seeing that the concrete was poured around them ?
Post have natural straw like fibers that allow moisture to flow in and out. The biggest problem most people do with installation is seal the bottom of the post with concrete. You need a hole with packed gravel in the bottom for the post to set on and drain. The other enemy is roof runoff, gutters and sloping dirt away from the home is critical. Lastly I used a salt water grade treated post, it's far more protected than the box store stuff.
Amazing job bro and the whole design it was brilliant. How much did it cost?
$179k fully furnished, we have a video on the channel showing the full cost breakdown.
@@TKCL thank you i appreciate man.
Wow you guys are awesome that is my dream but I don't know how to start 😊 did you pay to get the floor and roof done?
Yes those were two big projects that I didn't feel comfortable tackling solo. The concrete and roof.
This guy is a gang of one.
😬
I dunno man, looks like you have a metric ton of experience to me :) Nice job all the way around.
Thank you, first ever house and no experience in the trades.
You did everything but........cut the gass......Dam. good job
Thank you for watching
a minute in and no footings/foundations, timber in cotact with the ground. that house would have to be rebuilt here
What state is that where you have so much land? Impressive build
Florida
How often did you work on this in order to get it done in 13 months almost all by yourself?
Yes and 5+ days a week.
Where did you get your trusses.
Backwoods buildings in Chipley Florida. They ship.
Very nice! Maybe you never built a house, but "no experience", really?
No, just a homeowner that doesn't like paying others high amounts of money for less than satisfactory jobs. I've never worked in the construction trades or built a house before.
Man!
Wow, wish my state let me use my own grit and know-how to complete and live in my own home. We have to have the critical utilities work (water/electrical/HVAC) done by certified tradespeople out here, or our building and occupation permits get yanked.
Anyway, I wonder what that place sounds like in a rainstorm. Gotta be an ungodly racket with that metal roof!
Also, maybe zero experience, but come on, obviously a huge range of skills and equipment to work with! Not knocking your achievement one bit, but kind of underselling things a bit here, aren't you? Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, metalwork, cabinetry, and trim? You realize there are people who make a whole living out of just ONE of those skills you used, right? :D
Don't know what to tell you, I've never built a house before or worked in the construction trades. I studied codes, bought more tools and worked my butt off. FYI you can barely hear the rain inside, spray foam is amazing.
It seems that what you did is build a small house underneath a large roof?
Yep, because we wanted porches and outdoor entertainment space.
💪👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
gives a whole new concept to being raised in a barn lmaooooo
I call bs you had to of had some knowledge but damn thats impressive
No reason for me to lie
Cost?
ua-cam.com/video/ryLVUKgiPTs/v-deo.html full cost breakdown. $179k fully furnished
I truly Pray that you got a Licensed Electrician and plumber out there to recheck everything he did, otherwise, it would all have to be opened up and done correctly!
Contrary to your belief I'm more than capable of reading the same codes as electricians and plumbers. You do realize that I had to pass all rough in and final inspections just like any contractor? This isn't the wild west, we can't just build and do as we please.
Bad to the bone. Let this man mate and reproduce in peace. We need his kind of people.
🤣
Does anyone know why the lower drywall is BLUE in some sections? Is it greenboard?? Or like it? GREAT VIDEO
Yes it's a mold free board and required by code in some areas of the house.
Excelente cara! Nem a bunda da Kim kardashian ficou tão perfeito.
Abraços aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷.
Wow!
This is beyond inspirational. Nothing is more satisfying or American than a man building his own house on his own land. Can't wait to dive into all the videos on each of these stages👍
Thank you for watching
What could be more satisfying than a man building his own castle? Watching every episode was like watching a dream come true. Job well done.
Thank you for watching and the support.
@@TKCL what was the total material cost not counting the land? About $600K?
Not at all, $179k. Here is a full cost breakdown video I made. I could have built it for $40k less minus some upgrades we did. ua-cam.com/video/ryLVUKgiPTs/v-deo.html
@@TKCL dang I would have thought the main structure of the barn roof and framing would have been over that. Framing, cement, walls, insulation, appliances, furniture, roofing, electrical, all for $180k? What is the length and width total about? Dang that sounds like a good price even for just materials
I built the majority of the house myself, so huge savings there. Overall is 40x70 on slab, house is 30x50 downstairs, 212 Sq ft loft, and 900 Sq ft conditioned attic.
Just found you today 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. It’s going to take me sometime to catch up on your channel. Looks great!

I randomly searched for homemade ice maker and was impressed so I kept following to find I agree on everything I see along the way how I overdue projects all the way to screws out of line on switch plates. Always ready for more content. Bless ya'll !!
Thank you for the support!
I started watching when the concrete for the foundation was poured. It was nice to see what happened before that. Framing the end walls was amazing. Everything was amazing! Andrew did not compromise on anything he did. As a result, the house turned out fantastic!
Thank you
Andrew it’s a great video it’s not everyone that built house in 20 minutes.
Lol 😉
Lol good one
That sure brings back some memories and to think you did most of it your self. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Brings back memories for me too!
some of us are men and then we have tough, real men, your family is blessed to have you sir.
Wow what a magnificent piece of art you made for your family. I was with you every step! I learned so much, especially” if your gonna do something than do it right!! “ You both should be proud !!
Thank you
What an amazing job you did on you and Tiffany's house and that stairway up to your office is a Beautiful work of art
Thank you
Damn man! That really put into perspective how much you’ve done around there… EVERYTHING! Fantastic work my friend! 👍🏻
Thank you very much! It does remind me of what all it took to get to this point.
Man the memories of electrical came back lol. It was a journey I’m glad I got to watch and maybe be a very small part of . Im so happy for you and Tiffany. You both deserve it and I can’t to see where it goes from here . I wish you could have kept up the nail’s/ screws/ bolts it took . That wold be awesome to say it took 129335 nails 22713 screws and 238 bolts to build it . By the way Great video .. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I should have, I remember buying over 30k nails but am not sure of exactly how many.
I so loved watching you build your home. Love all your videos thank you for sharing them with us.
Thank you for watching
Really beautiful house mate. You have done an amazing job.
Your family will love every inch of this place. You should be incredibly proud!
Thank you
You can’t put NO EXPERIENCE, when this dude knows every trade.. 😂😂
You'd be shocked at how much I had to teach myself and learn throughout this process. I've never worked in the construction trades or built a house before.
This vid really shows how much effort you put into this build. Hats off to you.
Thank you
Best 20 minutes I've ever watched, awesome job, even more awesome job of editing that time period. Love you guys videos
