Toliss A321 X Plane 11 FMGC Setup with Real Airbus Pilot (Tutorial)

  • Join me as we setup the FMGC of the Airbus A321 using the MCDU. This is a full setup using a simple technique which is used by airline pilots all over the world.
    PLEASE NOTE: On INIT A page (05:37) you can also press the select key against 'WIND' then 'INSERT' to insert the wind during the flight automatically. This will make the fuel and time predictions more accurate. You only need to do this once during the setup.
    I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousand of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the new detailed simulation of the longest baby 'bus by Toliss. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

    Great video, thank you. One thing I struggle with is determine which is the active runway for my destination airport BEFORE I depart or whilst en-route. I fly offline but do use real weather in Xplane11. I try and use the Metars within avitab but this can be unreliable at times. Quiet often I tend to pick my preference and hope for the best. This seems to work out fine and I haven’t really faced any issues with flying an approach in the same direction of the wind. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. I just wondered if there were any tools that can be used to check the active runway for a destination airport. I’m surprised someone hasn’t created something already. SimBrief seems to suggest a destination runway when i create a plan which I tend to use but I’m not sure whether this is based on any meteorological science. Sorry for the long winded post ;)

      Hi Fabio thanks for watching. For the runway slope often airlines will have this information included in their performance app or manuals. It should be in the charts too, I will have a look where next time! The number after flaps 2 is not required but you are very welcome to enter it. A lot of airlines do not use it. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for these extremely helpful, and informative videos!!!! I am slowly becoming an Airbus Jedi Master lol. Some questions though:
    1. I have not seen/missed entering winds. I always manually enter my climb, cruise, and descent winds as the REQUEST WIND seems to give incorrect results. Do you program the winds in IRL? Thanks!
    2. Also, do you tweak cruise speed levels during the cruise phase to optimise the flight? Eg, speeding up to make up time if you have the extra fuel, climb/descend to optimal flight levels based on the progress page?
    Sorry if you have explained this in a video I have not seen or watched carefully enough lol!

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  4 роки тому +1

      Glad you are enjoying the Airbus and the videos Roger, thanks for your kind words! For question 1) Entering them manually is a good idea as the ToLiss does not support it fully. 2) To adjust the cruise speeds I would increase or decrease the cost index which gives updated times and fuel predictions too. If you have specific times to meet or are running late this may be required!

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  4 роки тому

      I’m glad they are useful! I download the SimBrief PDF then put it into the Avitab plugin folder in ‘charts’ folder. (X plane- resources- plug-ins- Avitab- Charts). It’s then available in Avitab charts! The metar loads automatically for me for each airport but I have Navigraph charts too. I use default X Plane weather, maybe that is why it works! Thanks for watching.

  • @tomstravels520
    @tomstravels520 4 роки тому

    I will admit I did skip some bits of the video but what do you do for winds. Do you have to enter every single individual cruise wind at each waypoint from the INIT A page or can you just use the average wind from the top of the flight plan for the first waypoint as it sends that wind data down the remaining waypoints?

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  4 роки тому +1

      Sadly this is more of a simulator limitation than how the real aeroplane works. So far I have just been using it once on INIT A during setup, the real aircraft can load the whole flight. I am not sure if the ToLiss updates this later, but if you do re select it during flight I have seen it add more wind info for the rest of the flight. I will investigate more and add it to a future video!

    • @tomstravels520
      @tomstravels520 4 роки тому

      320 Sim Pilot ok thanks. I normally enter each waypoint on preflight just for higher accuracy but it does take a while and was aware real aircraft could get updates mid flight.
      I know the STAR is often shown on the flight plan and planned runway but how do you know what type of approach you’ll get or if it is still that planned runway? I’m sure the ATIS on xplane is way too late but again I know aircraft in reality can download an ATIS. I didn’t know if some pilots select the STAR but leave the approach out until they get the ATIS or they put the runway in but no approach

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching and great question. It is not required and I have not flown in an airline that requires it. Maybe some procedures do use it.
