just discovered you guys as i'm rediscovering sim flying. Was a former pilot, don't have the time for it now, and flight simming is SOO much more fun and less stress and MUCH less $$$$$). Keep up the great work!
Loved this tutorial. I'm just starting out with X-Plane and flight swimming and hopefully getting my private pilot license but I'm documenting my journey on my channel and I'm self-teaching. I do have a CFI that will sign me off locally for ground school if I prove to him I'm knowledgeable for everything I need to be and he'll also be my flight instructor for when I get in the plane. So that's cool. The "Discontinuity" help me up in my last video, naturally, a crash stopped me in the first one, so I'm off to a good start. LOL. Thanks for the video and now I should be able to finish my first flight. After a whole week and two failed attempts.
I think tour massively under rated. I just started learning how to fly a commercial airliner tonight. Your videos are so descriptive and helpful! Thank you!
At 1:42 I became instantly excited and knew this was exactly what I been dieing to see. Golf clap 👏 I'm a believer in you! I'm now subscribing. Can't wait to check out your channel. Thank you alot.
I was looking for a tutorial such as this! I built a FP in my simbrief account last night but didn't know how to export into the FMS. I believe you gave me enough tip to know what I need to do to export my FP into my FMS! Thanks!
The default is not without its limitations, specifically a VNAV mode, but with proper decent planning it’ll get you where you want to go. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the feedback.
Yes finally I found and was shown how to do this manually, and in a speed of a DC3 not Concord speed demonstration. It was also good that after you had typed in your flight path and you begun to check it out that you had some issues that had to be fixed, so you showed us how to fix these errors. But you still had not quite figured out or proceed the final leg where all at a sudden you were back to 5.000 feet for some strange reasons. So you stared to wondering why that was so and you went through all the pages from 1 to 5 , but the pages they were 6 of them, so why didn't you go to that 6th page to see if you couldn't see or find out what was causing that problem, maybe you could have seen it there and deleted on of the point as you did with the first error what you had to deal with? But in general this was very nicely done, and thank you Flight Brother
That is what I'd like to do. Honestly I did fly and film the trip immediately after the data entry you saw on the video, but I had issues during descent. I will experiment a bit more to see if I screwed up or if the FMC wasn't operating in a normal predictable way. If you just want to get going though- take-off, above 1500' click LNAV, VNAV, and CMD. Make sure the flight directors and autothrottle switches are on.
Thanks so much for this. I was trying to figure out how to use the FMC using the written instructions provided by Laminar (KLAX to KSFO flight) and it was terrible. Many steps were omitted and I could not get it to work at all. This video answered many questions. Thanks again!
Definitely one of the best tutorials I have seen on the FMS/FMC for sure. I just picked up a KingAir 350 from Airfoillabs and it has a FMS. I imported a FP from LittleNavigraph last night and it came in just fine. But it did not set the ADF for the first NBD waypoint. I would think it should do that? I had to manually program it and the the plane would not go to it which I am sure is on my end, but it just got stuck on the first waypoint and would not advance and I saw now way to advance it to the next waypoint in the plan which was a VOR. So I am a bit confused on how the plan goes from the FMS to actually being used by the aircraft. I am going to build a plan manually tonight and see if that makes a diff since I did not validate the steps with the MDF which might have clued me in. I have watched a lot of FMS videos and not one described my question so I must be missing something very obvious. Anyway, I have some breadcrumbs to follow tonight. Cheers !!
I suspect the issue is what input the autopilot is receiving. I'll see if I can check where that is for you, but basically there should be a switch or knob to go from nav/fms. The FMC does not time radios, as it will find them without them being tuned.
@@FlightBrothersFT Yeah that is sort of what i figured, but could not find anything. And the docs that came with the plane are not very good. Plane is great...documentation not so much. I really like to know what each knob does and how and when to use it, so some decent docs would be nice. One last thing...is there a way to manually advance to the next waypoint in the FMS like you can do in a Garmin? Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. At least now I can narrow my search.
Took me a while after an exhaustive search to find a manual to match the FMS in the King Air, that the version of the FMS in XPlane is a customized one and used in all XPlane aircraft that have a FMS device. So the documentation was readily available from Laminar. So there are about four hours of my life I won't get back. But hey, my company just let me go and gave me a real nice severance so it looks like I am retired now and have oodles of time to spend learning all this stuff. Between this video and the King Air manuals (real one) I downloaded, it's coming together. Thanks again for the reply. I will let you know the final answer, although I am quite sure it's just something stupid on my part. AE
@@FlightBrothersFT i wasn't anticipating a response considering that it has been a year since you guys have posted a video nonetheless thank you so much! However as I have quite recently migrated from fsx to xplane therefore I was wondering if your team has made a video on how to plan a flight prior to programming it into the CDU (the default one).
Yeah we are long in the tooth for a video, but we still keep in touch with commenters. I (Lee) have been considering a separate hard drive and continuing with XP12 content. Both of us have expanded our families since we created the channel and content creation and sim time has taken a back seat. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to let us know!!!
Not all airports have a SID. I’d verify that your airport does (we use Navigraph for our charts, but free ones, for the US, are available by searching at FAA.gov). If your airport does not have one, then you can simply install the first waypoint along your route of travel, for example a VOR or 5 letter waypoint along your airway, or direct route of travel. We hope this helps! Happy flying.
Your videos are great. One big problem I am having is because I want to, at this stage of my flying use the default x plane atc which requires you to fill out the default flight plan. I find that the X plane default plan conflicts with the Simbrief one that I load into the FMC. Especially in the area auto pilot and navigation. For example, I will file and load my Simbrief plan. The when in the cockpit I will file a second plan using X Plane's default ATC flight planner. I even re-copy the routing legs from the Simbrief plan in the FMC into the X plane default flight planner. After takeoff at about 1000 feet I press the LNAV, VNAV and CMD buttons as indicated in your 747 400 tutorial video. At first there are no issues but when I try to make course changes as per the X Plane AI ATC controller my plane starts going crazy out of control. Even sometimes doing barrel rolls. What am I doing wrong?
Our short response is, we’ve not experienced this. The caveat to that is that we’ve never used XPlane ATC and understand (based on forum surfing) that it’s not “ideal”. If the ATC vectors you, you would need to be in HDG mode not LNAV at that point. A suggestion would be try flying without ATC. See if the results repeat. I’m guessing you’re really using ATC to tell you when to descend. And a 3:1-ish rule helps here. 30k feet, start descending about 90 miles out. 10k, 30 miles etc. The only issue with this method is if you are in mountainous terrain/IMC. This is where having your charts handy, if you use them, will help. Your minimum safe altitudes are listed on there. Sorry for the longer response, but since we don’t know your level of experience, feel free to disregard what you already know, or ask a further question to clarify any additional knowledge gaps. We will do our best to help!
@@FlightBrothersFT actually that response was a great help. I found a way last night that helped a bit. I guess when you recopy the Simbrief route into the X-Plane atc plan you can't use sids and stars. I also found when switching the LNAV on and off as needed helps. But yeah you are right I am using the ATC to vector me in to to the runway at the correct decent rate. Which is sometimes is useless as the X-Plane atc brought me into the side of a mountain last night while on a flight from CYYC to CYVR. Lol I was at 7000 feet and didn't see it until it was too late. I guess in the future I could turn on the landing lights a little early to help light up the area. But anyway thank you so much you've been a great help! Happy flying!
@@tristarRB211 “vector into mountain” is one of the most common things we’ve heard. Typically, in the US anyway, lights are on below 10,000, unless it’s a high altitude airport, then I believe it’s 15,000. Thanks for the question and response. It’s great to hear the effort put into these videos is helping the community!
Very nice and nice timing. I have been using XP11 for a little less than a year, and started watching your vids and learned a great deal when I got in to the hobby. Most of that in the Zibo. I have gotten an itch to fly the 747. So I get it started and realize I forgot how this FMC worked. Also I had no idea how to do the freq for ILS and course. So thank you for mentioning this. I would also be interested in seeing the resulting flight. MY flight plan I did before seeing this had the same issue with no runway in the plan. I am going to try again soon. Thank you again!
Thanks for commenting. I did film the flight, but had issues getting it to descend on the FMC. It might have been user error, it might be the vnav has issues on descent. Either way you didn't miss much worth seeing. Ended up going manual for the arrival and approach.
@@FlightBrothersFT Well I did my flight. I had to manually enter the final legs. But there were not missed approach legs. AP worked great through climb, cruise & decent. But upon final approach the plane started away from the airport. I could not disengage the cmd or change speed. I had to disconnect AP and fly manually.
Pretty good job guys. I haven't read all the comments so I apologize if I am repeating what others have said. Yes Id love to see a video on how to implement the FMC into an actual flight. I will be doing some reading SimBrief and the FMC manual Please contact me via e mail or how can I e mail you? I don't use my g mail account. I used 2 computers one to watch and take notes the other was to open x plane 11, the 747 400 and log what you said into the FMC. There were discrepancies in the route/waypoint numbering both written and verbally. I really enjoyed the "mistake" in the route and you show to remove/edit those items that need to be removed. All in all pretty good job.
Trying to match our flight plan exactly will depend on which AIRAC cycle of nav data your Xplane has. We have Navigraph chart subscriptions, so our videos tend to reflect whatever was current at the time of recording. Regardless, you can generate your own flight plan in simbrief and enter that. Our airline flight planning tutorial will walk you through those steps. flightbrosft@gmail.com
Great tutorial. I'd like to be able to generate flight plans for use with the FMC, but Simbrief seems to require a subscription to Navigraph. I'd like to be able to generate a FP w/o having to tied to a paid subscription. Is there any way to do this with Little Nav Map? Thanks.
Thank you. The computer logic appears to be very similar in most FMCs. The Laminar default is most closely mimicking on in particular, which I believe is mentioned somewhere early on in the video (I forgot the name). The Boeing FMC runs very similar to this and is shown in some of our videos (look for Zibo 737). The Airbus system has more differences than the Boeing and I believe is in our Airbus 300 video. The main difference you will find with those more exact copies will be the including of performance data. The basic xPlane FMC is just handling navigation where a real system integrates navigation, weight, and fuel burn.
One of the best tutorials on the FMC i have seen. Great job. I am curious as to what happened with the approach to runway 08 or did i miss something? It would be really useful if you could show how you activate and use the FMC it in flight... Subscribed :)
Thanks Philip. We can definitely put together an in-flight video. I actually did record the flight that this setup video is for. Unfortunately I had some issues, so I want to experiment more before making a tutorial for that. Otherwise it will be a watch me get frustrated and right with the FMC video. Thanks for the comment and sub!
Can you do a video on using saved flight plans? I have one saved into the correct folder but could use help in getting it into the FMC and functioning correctly. Also, how to edit these once in the FMC to correct any errors that might arise.
Welcome to the jetliners Sim Captain! If you can manage this FMC, you will find other variants operate somewhat similarly. The Boeing FMC is closest to this one, the Airbus has a few variations that could confuse you at first. Happy flying!
The default Laminar FMS is very quirky and seems to do random stuff everytime I put in a flight plan. One thing you definitely need to be careful of is making changes to existing flight plans. FMS somehow doesnot respond well to any changes once it has calculated your VNAV and LNAV. You pretty much have to exit XPlane and start fresh from a blank Flight plan. If you want to use FMC for Auto pilot than I would suggest moving to Zibo Mod 737. I don't know why Laminar doesn't fix or improve on the current shoddy FMS integration with Auto Pilot.
Any idea why once I select the runway on the Dep/Apr screen, I can't use the next page? In fact, as soon as I hit any of the line buttons, nothing populates on the screen unless I hit the button for what I am working on.
Unfortunately this is a limitation of the default FMC being able to work with multiple aircraft. Some of the information is able to be input. Let me confirm which video contains the information and I’ll post it back here as a response, though it works better with aircraft with custom FMCs, like the Flight Factor and Zibo “type” aircraft. More to come, let me look at our videos.
Here is the FMC set up video for the Zibo. If you are using the default FMC, as mentioned, not all of this information is able to be input. I hope this helps, and if not, please fire back to us and we will try to help you further. ua-cam.com/video/Mkno79J9XVA/v-deo.html
@@FlightBrothersFT Thanks- I'll watch it later today. Again, its not the FMC or CDU machine itself, its the weights and fuel info needed to input into the FMC- thats not on Simbrief etc. is it within the flight sim software program itself?
@@Mikinct well the weights of the aircraft are in Simbrief. You can edit those to match your in-game aircraft, I believe it’s the “airframe” tab, such as gross weight, max fuel etc. Once you run Simbrief with the selected aircraft profile, and route it’ll populate the fuel, weights, altitude and cruise speed.
This is likely due to the AIRAC cycles being different. If you have a subscription service, Navigraph for example, it will keep the nav data in the sim current. The chart cycle is also in Simbrief, so if they both match, you shouldn’t get errors. This is the likely cause.
I have pretty much nailed the zibo FMC. Recently tried out the 747 and i can't find the 'Takeoff' and 'Approach' page to calculate the V1,Vr,V2,and Vref which bothers me A LOT. If anybody knows how to calculate the V speeds manually using a calculator (my math is bad). Also the performance page found on the 737 cannot be found which lets me enter the CRZ ALT,Cruise Temp, fuel, cost index, etc. Seriously i am bothered that i could enter some of information into the FMC of the 737,but not on the 747.
Hi there. We share your frustration, but can explain the reason. The Zibo FMC is a custom programmed replica of the real Boeing FMC. The default Laminar 747 uses a generic Xplane FMC that roughly follows Boeing logic but lacks the model specific performance calculations (this same FMC is in the default MD80, and numerous payware as well). I would suggest checking out the SSG 747-8i if you are interested in having a 747 with a highly realistic FMC (like the Zibo has). We both have the aircraft and find it to work well, and it has ongoing updates which are improving the product (soon a freighter will be released in an upcoming update, and we've had the privilege of flying the beta version).
First let me say, I love your videos. Very in-depth, a good speed and well produced. I am a computer idiot, and have never flown a real plane. I am however an aviation enthusiast who LOVES flying in the sim. For years, I’ve just been flying the Boeing planes using the default ATC along with the auto pilot altitude hold, vertical speed hold, heading hold, and throttle hold. I decided I really wanted to try the FMS, and despite your video being really on point, I find myself dealing with situations that are not covered in this video and confusing to figure out. This is particularly true of the arrival and departure settings, as well as the vertical NAV set up. Would you be willing to do a video that not only programs the FMC, but then flies it as well? Lastly, if there is any chance you’d be willing to allow me to email you with the specifics of what I’m dealing with, that would be amazing. I live in the middle of nowhere and don’t have friends who sim so I’m “flying in the dark” (lame pun I know). Regardless, keep the tutorials coming! Good stuff guys.
Thanks Mike, great comment. You are exactly the sort of sim pilot we created the channel to help. Feel free to email us at flightbrosft@gmail.com. I don't know how soon we could get a video out, as we are completely slammed between real life, the new MSFS, our regular Xplane projects, and our contributions to FSElite. That is not a complaint, we are happy to have so many awesome things going on. Let us first suggest watching our autopilot/MCP mode control panel) video. It will really help you understand the operation of each function on the autopilot. From there you might be fine, and if not email us your questions. ua-cam.com/video/oyHmFsZVmfY/v-deo.html
Excellent question. You have reached the greatest limitation of the default FMC. Being made to work with almost any aircraft, it lacks the aircraft specific performance data to do those calculations. You can work around this by using the charts manually or just estimating. Your biggest risks will be on short runways, high altitudes, high gross weights, and hot temperatures. If you have any of those conditions, you should check the performance tables first. Many are available with a quick Google search.
Generally that means the AIRAC data doesn’t match for that waypoint. You can try skipping that waypoint, get a Navigraph subscription (even if only one month to refresh you nav data), or there may be other alternatives as well.
In common case - you must clear a scratch pad (many time press CLR), sometimes it can store many lines, which you don't see, with warnings and error inputs. P.S> official LMR guide (x-plane.com/manuals/FMS_Manual.pdf) may be it will be useful and try google if it did help.
We developed a 738 that can hover in a 30kt wind! Just kidding, since it’s a programming tutorial, not flying allows us to focus on the task of the FMC and not multitasking. Good catch though!
I won't be able to watch this -- and get back to X-Plane in general -- until May. At that point, I'll put together a OneNote document that contains the transcript for this and screen captures of the video. Once I figure out where OneNote 2019 actually saves their files, I'll have something that I can send your way if you're interested.
@@FlightBrothersFT , apparently the latest version of OneNote only saves to the cloud. I'll PM you to get an email from you to do a shared-notebook experiment.
@@FlightBrothersFT Thank you. Actually, my reason is two-fold: school work for a degree I'm finishing near the end of the summer and the decision during Lent to pull back from XP for the most part during this time.
someone had a the brightness FMC problem?? all my default planes works but the 747 FMC doesnt turn on, its just dark withou turn on, i tried roll the bright switch but nothings happen, i do the cool and dark startup doing step by step but nothing
is there a way to load a pre saved flightplan into the fms, just watched a video whereby the fms had a "menu" button, but i think had to be a different plane.....been looking for a video but can't find one, i thought if anybody knows how it will be you guys the flight brothers.......don't misunderstand the vid is excellent but wouldn't mind a quicker way to use in conjunction with simtoolkitpro....peace
Sure, we got you! Download a flight plan from simbrief in the default .fms format. Put it in the folder xplane11/Output/FMS plans. Once in the sim click ROUTE MENU (right soft key 1) then CO ROUTE LIST (left soft key 2). Scroll as needed using next page and click the soft key beside the plan you select.
@@FlightBrothersFT thx, i'd just figured it out, but i might not of done, and your reply was swift which i appreciate.. peace...quick q i'm a noob as you can tell, how i get full cockpit lighting in the 747-4 ...it's not best using the nvg's lolz
Couple tips. Under the VIEW menu is an aviation flashlight, very helpful. Next, the 744 has panel backlighting knobs for all the text around buttons and dials, look at the bottom left of the overhead panel for most of these knobs. The Captain and first officer positions have separate knobs for their panel displays to the top corner if their panel ( between window and panel). If you want a dome light click the STORM switch on the bottom left of the overhead.
If you mean saved fms files, go to the Xplane directory on the hard drive. Find the OUTPUT folder, and the FMS PLANS folder inside that. Delete unwanted .fms files.
Flight Brothers FT like, what i mean is, say you entered your first flight ever in the fms, then you want to start another, or more really, how do start or reset the fms where it is a clean slate? kinda hard to explain
when i’m at the gate, ready to go to the next destination, i hit flight plan on the fms, it still has the flight i just did, trying to enter new origin and dest
Okay I understand. Go to the FPLN page on the FMS and enter a new departure airport code. Once you do it seems all data is cleared and the FMS is basically reset.
I subbed; what if the CDU (FMS) screen is blank both in pop-up and in the cockpit after connecting power (EXT/BAT/APU? I'll look at your videos, see if I can learn some more. :)
Thanks for subscribing. Assuming you are on the B747, you might have missed the BUS ties. Definitely check out the 747 tutorial for a full checklist and power up procedure.
@@FlightBrothersFT Likely... it seems to be elsewhere, since I tried the default 737 and its FMC works and isn't blank... the weird thing is that the default 747's FMC is blank, even with the BUS' on. But again, the error is on my end. Welcome!
Kristoffer Thorsheim other Flight Bro (Lee) here, not sure on the 747. The FlyJSim Q400 Legacy requires an FMC pop out button to be configured. Possibly try this, but I also do not have an issue with the 744. We’d be interested in any feedback you could give us and the viewers.
@@FlightBrothersFT Hi Lee -- of course, I'd happy to provide with info. I guess, I need to go on the "org" for support, but its weird that a blank FMC (both popup & screened) are not working on both aftermarket 744 and the same issue resides in a vanilla default 744 as well; where as, again the default 737 is not producing the same error...? I have updated my fms nav data via navigraph to see if it was this, its a nuisance... on to the org forums I guess it is yet again. Thanks in advance!
@@FlightBrothersFT & Lee; I can reproduce the error now (it seems)... seems like the default FMC/FMS is mapped with the joystick of "Avionics On/Off" ... meaning that if you're using the Honeycomb Alpha, turning Avionics on by default mapping switch of Avionics switch on, turns on the wxr (weather on PFD) AAAANND YOUR FMC/FMS's!! So there was the error, it was nothing bugged or that... a few nights rest on going through where fault may lie, it was the avionics button, if its mapped it needs to be on to get weather (terrain works without) and the FMS/FMCs!... at least it turns them on, so it should work then; which it does!... this is for the 744 both modified and default....
Welcome to Xplane! The next thing you need to do is understand the functions of the autopilot (lateral, vertical, and throttle) and how to control those (direct MCP input or FMC program). Watch our video on the MCP Mode Control Panel ua-cam.com/video/oyHmFsZVmfY/v-deo.html for info on that. For a quicker view, watch the end of our 747 tutorial and you will see a takeoff and engaging the autopilot. ua-cam.com/video/pVgBRlKiMiI/v-deo.html Basic instructions are this: have both Flight Director switches on and the Auto-throttle switch. At 1000' or higher click LNAV and VNAV then CMD.
Tutorial very helpful being new to x-plane. Downloaded Gulfstream iv (freeware), is there a way to use this FMS for navigation, if so how can I install or activate it. Any and all help appreciated. THANKS!
This is the default FMS and many developers use it if they do not want to produce a custom FMS. It would be up to the producer of your GIV. We would recommend reviewing any included documentation included with it, or searching the XPlane.org forums for information on that specific aircraft.
hello sir, im already update the airac, but in the default fmc aircraft like the boeing 737 ( not the zibo ) and the 747, its not updated, i put a new airport in the fmc that i can put in zibo fmc, but in the default it said not in database. Can you help me?
You might need to check that your AIRAC is correctly installed. I have never experienced the issue you are having, and I have updated the nav cycle probably 25+ times. First, check the directory you installed it to.
Flight Brothers FT i installed it to custom data and its updated at the zibo, i look at the database at the default 747 fmc, it already updated, but when i insert the new airport or some waypoint, it said not in database..
Thanks for your tutorial. I am recently struggling with braking the aircraft while taxiing. Basically the problem is that after i have applied the toe brake to stop the aircraft, because I need to make a turn or stop short of holding point, the aircraft won't move again after I throttle again. It is stalled for some reason. Have I done some wrong or is it because of some other reasons?
Interesting. It sounds like the parking brake is engaging. You could check your controller settings (if you're using pedals with toe brakes) to be sure they are set correctly. The keyboard command to engage or release the parking brake is 'b'
@@FlightBrothersFT The parking brake was not engaged when I braked with the right toe brake. However, I now make do with the parking brake instead in order to brake during taxiing. Thanks for your reply
It likely does not mean anything. The codes are meant to be pronounceable, in this case likely like the word 'lotion'. Some codes do have meanings, but are usually very specific to the city and airport.
These are GPS waypoints located on aviation charts and inside aircraft FMCs. When creating a flight plan, your route will include many such waypoints. Watch our video on Airline Flight Planning to see how to make a plan. ua-cam.com/video/sHcD0HQyy14/v-deo.html

Hello. Just trying to understand the question. Are you asking if the FMC can be used in the Cessna in Xplane? Or are you asking for a tutorial on using the Garmin GPS in the Cessna?
@@FlightBrothersFT oh sorry.. I guess it's more of a can you get an automated fight plan out of these free online services for smaller aircraft. I only see larger ones. Trying to use a C182 to fly from RSW to DFW and would not go out over the Gulf of Mexico
For GA aircraft we typically use Skyvector.com or Navigraph for flight planning. If you have Navigraph, you can also input your airports and let it build the route for you.
We have two things that might interest you. Our 747 tutorial includes the initial engagement of autopilot. Outstanding FMS for X Plane 11 tutorial!!! Thank You so much!
I was about to give up on the XP11 FMS until I found this!
So glad we could help! Check out the rest of our channel, lots of other tutorials and content. Happy flying!
TOO TOO GOOD... VERY NICELY EXPLAIANED, (GIVING RIGHT PAUSE IN SPEACH) POINT BY POINT HOW TO SET UP FLIGHT PLAN, HOW TO MAKE CORRECTIONS. EXCELLENT.
Thanks for the compliment 👍
Hands down the best and most thorough FMC tutorial on the internet. Love you guys lol
Wow, thank you!
I think tour massively under rated. I just started learning how to fly a commercial airliner tonight. Your videos are so descriptive and helpful! Thank you!
Best of luck and welcome to the club! If you have any questions, just let us know. There are two of us, so at least one of us may know the answer!
Great stuff. Zooming, arrows, detailed explanations, what an absolute novelty. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks for the comment! It's nice to know those extra details are appreciated.
FS this is old but by far the best tutorial on youtube and I've watched many a snooze fest.
Many thanks. We are so glad it is still helpful to sim pilots. Happy flying!
This is amazing! I've learned so much, and i can proudly say that i have made my first successful flight with this video! Keep up the good work :)
Awesome, thanks for letting us know! Happy flying!
I really like the attention you give to default X-Plane stuff.
Thanks! We felt it was a neglected area, and default is something everyone can use. Thanks for the comment!
At 1:42 I became instantly excited and knew this was exactly what I been dieing to see. Golf clap 👏
I'm a believer in you! I'm now subscribing. Can't wait to check out your channel. Thank you alot.
We’re glad it helped you! Thanks for the sub and we hope our other content meets or exceeds expectations.
this is definitely the very best tutorial for the Laminar default FMS. Thanks a lot.
You're very welcome. Thank you for taking time to comment. Happy flying!
I was looking for a tutorial such as this! I built a FP in my simbrief account last night but didn't know how to export into the FMS. I believe you gave me enough tip to know what I need to do to export my FP into my FMS! Thanks!
Our pleasure. Glad it helped. Happy flying!
Thank you!! For this!! Lots of steps unlike FSX flight plan but this is more realistic like PMDG
Thank you for the feedback. Happy flying!
Great job again ! hope you gonna finish next procedure from departure till arrival with this plan .. look like interesting
Glad to hear it! Thanks for sharing, it keeps us motivated!
Yea no kidding
You add about 15 more knots that the V2 speed shows on the FMC and place that total speed in the MCP speed setting.
AE
One of the best FMC tutorials for xplane 11.. Helped me a lot.. Thanks?.
We are glad it helped! Thank you for taking time to comment and tell us about it.
Now this is called a tutorial! an absolute banger
Thank you so much, glad we could help!!

That is what we like to hear! Happy flying, and thanks for the compliment.
Excellent Tutorial. Very articulate, your speech is excellent A++++
Thanks for the feedback and compliment!
I don’t have a Sid on my flight plan, how can I get one?
Not all airports have a SID. I’d verify that your airport does (we use Navigraph for our charts, but free ones, for the US, are available by searching at FAA.gov). If your airport does not have one, then you can simply install the first waypoint along your route of travel, for example a VOR or 5 letter waypoint along your airway, or direct route of travel. We hope this helps! Happy flying.
thank you, best tutorial i've found
Our pleasure, thanks!
Very good explanation, thank you. Henk, Delft, The Netherlands
Our pleasure. Happy flying and thank you for taking time to comment.
I had to disconnect AP and fly manually.
this is perfect explanation , thank you sir 🙏
Great description video, well thought-out, executed and professionally produced! Best I've seen so far on the topic. Thanks a lot for the good job.
Thank you for the compliment!
Double thumbs up from me. Thanks for the best tutorial on this subject I have seen so far. Good work
Our pleasure! Thanks for taking time to comment.
@@FlightBrothersFT Thank you I will check that out and may e mail you as well. al
this video gave me rich information about FMS settings.. thanks
Our pleasure. Thanks for the comment.
Great tutorial. I'd like to be able to generate flight plans for use with the FMC, but Simbrief seems to require a subscription to Navigraph. I'd like to be able to generate a FP w/o having to tied to a paid subscription. Is there any way to do this with Little Nav Map? Thanks.
We aren’t sure, as we had annual Navigraph subscriptions, but we’ve heard of Little Nav Map.
Yes please show the actual flying of this flight with the AP
very well made tutorial. btw does it function same may in real life?
We just released a video showing this flight plan used in flight. It's on our channel as 747 Autopilot.
Can you do a video on using saved flight plans? I have one saved into the correct folder but could use help in getting it into the FMC and functioning correctly. Also, how to edit these once in the FMC to correct any errors that might arise.
This was very helpful...thank you!!!
You're welcome, thanks for taking time to tell us. Happy flying!
This helped me alot i was new to flying jets in x plane.
Welcome to the jetliners Sim Captain! If you can manage this FMC, you will find other variants operate somewhat similarly. The Boeing FMC is closest to this one, the Airbus has a few variations that could confuse you at first. Happy flying!
You need 1 billion subscribers dude 😃
I'm guessing that means you found the video helpful! Thanks for the compliment 👍
@@FlightBrothersFT Yes it was very helpful 😊😉
Hey man, do you perhaps know how to fix the invaled entry when putting in your current airport position and your destination?
The default Laminar FMS is very quirky and seems to do random stuff everytime I put in a flight plan. One thing you definitely need to be careful of is making changes to existing flight plans. FMS somehow doesnot respond well to any changes once it has calculated your VNAV and LNAV. You pretty much have to exit XPlane and start fresh from a blank Flight plan. If you want to use FMC for Auto pilot than I would suggest moving to Zibo Mod 737. I don't know why Laminar doesn't fix or improve on the current shoddy FMS integration with Auto Pilot.
We have definitely experienced many of those same issues.
Amazing tutorial period. Subscribed I learned so much thanks to you. thank you!
Our pleasure. Thanks for commenting!
Umm. Does X-Plane have a function to align IRS. Usually a 40 second (6 min) IRS alignment before flight planning begins
Several payware aircraft in XPlane do, but it is aircraft specific.
Thanks man exactly what I needed to set my FPL thanks man
Our pleasure. Happy flying.
Any idea why once I select the runway on the Dep/Apr screen, I can't use the next page? In fact, as soon as I hit any of the line buttons, nothing populates on the screen unless I hit the button for what I am working on.
is there a video you made that shows how to enter all the weights and fuel from simbrief into FMC?
Again, its not the FMC or CDU
machine itself, its the weights and fuel info needed to input into the FMC- thats not on Simbrief etc. is it within the flight sim software program itself?
@@Mikinct well the weights of the aircraft are in Simbrief. You can edit those to match your in-game aircraft, I believe it’s the “airframe” tab, such as gross weight, max fuel etc. Once you run Simbrief with the selected aircraft profile, and route it’ll populate the fuel, weights, altitude and cruise speed.
The SID in my route was not on the fms. Can you please help me? I used sim brief for the route
This is likely due to the AIRAC cycles being different. If you have a subscription service, Navigraph for example, it will keep the nav data in the sim current. The chart cycle is also in Simbrief, so if they both match, you shouldn’t get errors. This is the likely cause.
Thanks I’m 11 and whant to fly the 737 800 and this helps out alot
Thank you for letting us know, and we’re glad it helped.
Oh I forgot to mention, watch the speed tape on the PFD for V speeds and VREF indications on the default 744.
Didn't you miss one more discontinuity at the end of plan?
It doesn’t matter if it’s at the end because it doesn’t affect the route
Flight Brothers FT thanks!
Success? Keep us posted.
I was doing the same for years and now I never fly without inputting my plan into the FMC.
It makes it a lot easier! All you have to focus on is the descent profile.
what about v1, vr, v2? where can i setup it or calculate it?
Excellent question. You have reached the greatest limitation of the default FMC. Being made to work with almost any aircraft, it lacks the aircraft specific performance data to do those calculations. You can work around this by using the charts manually or just estimating. Your biggest risks will be on short runways, high altitudes, high gross weights, and hot temperatures. If you have any of those conditions, you should check the performance tables first. Many are available with a quick Google search.
Thanks! Will download plug-in FMS for navigation.
Thank you. Very helpful.
We are glad it helped out! Thanks for taking the time to let us know :)
Great video!
It won’t let me type anything it just says “not in database” what do I do
Generally that means the AIRAC data doesn’t match for that waypoint. You can try skipping that waypoint, get a Navigraph subscription (even if only one month to refresh you nav data), or there may be other alternatives as well.
I have a question what if there's no space to enter all the legs
Once on the legs menu you should be able to select “next page” and continue to add more.

Yes. If you'd like to see more on that, our 'Airline Flight Planning' video lays it out.
I loaded the route, but i cant press any key on the FMC...it shows me "key not active"...how to correct it
In common case - you must clear a scratch pad (many time press CLR), sometimes it can store many lines, which you don't see, with warnings and error inputs.
P.S> official LMR guide (x-plane.com/manuals/FMS_Manual.pdf) may be it will be useful and try google if it did help.
@@denisgoodman4492 I solved the issue dude....instead of co pilots fmc I opened pilot fmc...thanks for the reply bro

Thanks… that’s helpfully
25:39 so we are just going to ignore his speed?
We developed a 738 that can hover in a 30kt wind! Just kidding, since it’s a programming tutorial, not flying allows us to focus on the task of the FMC and not multitasking. Good catch though!
I don't have these blue lines below the route menu, so i can't type. Anyone can help me?
I won't be able to watch this -- and get back to X-Plane in general -- until May. At that point, I'll put together a OneNote document that contains the transcript for this and screen captures of the video. Once I figure out where OneNote 2019 actually saves their files, I'll have something that I can send your way if you're interested.
Cool idea, I like it!
@@FlightBrothersFT , apparently the latest version of OneNote only saves to the cloud. I'll PM you to get an email from you to do a shared-notebook experiment.
@brhelodrvr If your name/image/and comment are any indication of your profession, stay safe and hope you have a welcome return from your “float”.
@@FlightBrothersFT Thank you. Actually, my reason is two-fold: school work for a degree I'm finishing near the end of the summer and the decision during Lent to pull back from XP for the most part during this time.
It puts the LOSHN into the scratch pad
someone had a the brightness FMC problem?? all my default planes works but the 747 FMC doesnt turn on, its just dark withou turn on, i tried roll the bright switch but nothings happen, i do the cool and dark startup doing step by step but nothing
Hmmm. That is a unique problem I have not heard before. Perhaps check that a system is not failed in the failure menu.
is there a way to load a pre saved flightplan into the fms, just watched a video whereby the fms had a "menu" button, but i think had to be a different plane.....been looking for a video but can't find one, i thought if anybody knows how it will be you guys the flight brothers.......don't misunderstand the vid is excellent but wouldn't mind a quicker way to use in conjunction with simtoolkitpro....peace
Can i set flight plan without SID?
Sure. I’m not 100% certain but if you’re able to put the airport identifier in, it would theoretically fly to it as a waypoint.
can you tell me how to remove old flights from the fms?
If you mean saved fms files, go to the Xplane directory on the hard drive. Find the OUTPUT folder, and the FMS PLANS folder inside that. Delete unwanted .fms files.
Flight Brothers FT like, what i mean is, say you entered your first flight ever in the fms, then you want to start another, or more really, how do start or reset the fms where it is a clean slate? kinda hard to explain
when i’m at the gate, ready to go to the next destination, i hit flight plan on the fms, it still has the flight i just did, trying to enter new origin and dest
Flight Brothers FT or in other words, how do you delete an active flight plan in the fmc
Okay I understand. Go to the FPLN page on the FMS and enter a new departure airport code. Once you do it seems all data is cleared and the FMS is basically reset.
Amazing explanation!
Thank you!
Bro! Why can’t I delete waypoints. I want to clear it and keep getting “invalid delete” this is frustrating
Are you able to select the next waypoint and insert it? You have to use the direct to function to insert on the active waypoint
what is the embedded music at the end of the video?
Not sure. The music is DRM free from UA-cam’s creator library.
So there was the error, it was nothing bugged or that... a few nights rest on going through where fault may lie, it was the avionics button, if its mapped it needs to be on to get weather (terrain works without) and the FMS/FMCs!... at least it turns them on, so it should work then; which it does!... this is for the 744 both modified and default....
wait i'm new to xplane and i set up the fmc but what do i do after? how do i set it to autopilot
Flight Brothers FT i installed it to custom data and its updated at the zibo, i look at the database at the default 747 fmc, it already updated, but when i insert the new airport or some waypoint, it said not in database..
i tried everything but i cant figure out how to see what sid/star you have when creating a flight plan on simbrief can someone maybe help me?

@@FlightBrothersFT thank you
You failed to remove the final DISCONNECT at the end of the plan.
Yes, you’re correct. Since it’s at the end of the route it doesn’t affect the flight plan.
What is LOSHN Mean ?, i get it, it was departure code but i search it somewhere on google and nothing tell about it.
It likely does not mean anything. The codes are meant to be pronounceable, in this case likely like the word 'lotion'. Some codes do have meanings, but are usually very specific to the city and airport.
So where do i found codes like this ? Or should i create the new one ?
These are GPS waypoints located on aviation charts and inside aircraft FMCs. When creating a flight plan, your route will include many such waypoints. Watch our video on Airline Flight Planning to see how to make a plan. ua-cam.com/video/sHcD0HQyy14/v-deo.html
Ok, thank you for your advice bro
HEY FBFT I LOVE YOUR YOUR CAHHNEL AND I WOULD LIKE IF YOU MAKE A VIDEO ON JUST A NORMAL X PLANE 11 VIDEO IT NOT A GUIDE VIDEO...... SHPECIAL REQUEST ON THIS ONE CAN YOU SHOW HOW TO DEAL WITH AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!
Thanks for subscribing. Check out this flight we did together in the PC-12. We had an engine failure about an hour an forty minutes into the video. We did not expect it and you'll see us work the problem together.

Why does my FMC (on all aircraft) display "No Key Action"? (On captain FMC).
That is an unusual message, and not one I have ever seen before. You can try the clear key to see if it removes it.
@@FlightBrothersFT Thanks you.
Can you do this. with a smaller aircraft, C172? Say FL -> TX?
Start 3:20
For those new to flight sim, we included a little background information and defined the system a bit. Thanks for watching!
Did you make an autopilot tutorial?
We have two things that might interest you. Our 747 tutorial includes the initial engagement of autopilot. At time 34:40 we are about 1000' in the air after takeoff and about to engage. ua-cam.com/video/pVgBRlKiMil/v-deo.html
We also have a more general video on all the different functions of the autopilot and mode control panel. It's filmed on the Zibo 737, but it is nearly the same for all modern Boeing's. ua-cam.com/video/oyHmFsZVmfY/v-deo.html
@@FlightBrothersFT Thank you!
Have you got the tutorial after the set up of the FMC to autopilot??? Or how to use the autopilot?
Thanks for the comment. I filmed the flight, but had numerous issues with the FMC managing the descent and arrival. That said, you are one of many people to ask for such a tutorial. I will commit to making one, but I cannot promise how quickly I can film, edit, and release. @@FlightBrothersFT yeah I'm still learning for some reason it just nose dived me into the ground 😂😅 something I'm missing somewhere lool
Haha, there definitely is a learning curve. Once you get the hang of the FMC, the next trick is learning how/when/what autopilot modes and settings to use and when to safely interact with the FMC.
@@FlightBrothersFT tell that to my passengers 😂 honestly no clue what I'm getting wrong think it's something to do with speed 🤷🏽♂️ gonna watch your video again 😅✌🏽

Sorry but what about performance calculations, Cg, speeds etc?
Those are not modeled through the default FMS unfortunately.

How do you input direct
Did you even watch the video
How do you activate the key
