The majority of fawns are set in the months of May/June. The first mowing takes place at the same time. In the first weeks alive they have no flight instinct. Instead they make themselves small to be almost invisible to their predators. Unfortunately, this does not work for the farmer with his mower.
Up to 25000 fawns die due to mowing operation in Austria every year. Those would be recognizable with drones in combination with infrared cameras. Other devices are too cost-intensive and organisations have not enough equipment or time to satisfy the need.
How to detect fawns in the high grass with the InEL IR-Cam is shown in this video. It merges visible images with thermal images in real-time.
