BG3 is pretty much the DnD version of DA: Origins, party banter, meaningful character progressions, camp system to talk to companions, an almost identical final battle sequence...
For the majority of BG3 I wasn't that keen on Astarion. I used him because he's handy, but i wasn't a fan..... but. By the time i finished helping him out with his storyline, I found I enjoyed participating in it with him more enjoyable than entire games I've played in recent years. @@thecoffeeman1 I'd say that it is doubly so for combat. When there's a chance that your spell won't cast, or your blow might miss, it makes combat far more interesting. As well as making it more than just the gear check that you mentioned in the video.
Spot on. So many people really vilify RNG and randomness in their games, but so much of the iterative fun in games is experiencing new situations due to the inherent randomness (and therefore unpredictability) of the outcome. RNG done well enhances the stakes at play.
@@TimmWith2Ms I think people vilify RNG because of the lack of options. If you battle through a dungeon and finally get to the look chest looking for that epic armour of the gods, only to have the one and only RNG roll give you a wedge of cheese, it's easy to vilify the RNG. Especially when the numbers and odds are hidden. Was that a 1 in 1000 chance or a 1 in 6? However, if I'm in BG3 trying to pick a lock to a chest and get found out by the guard, then fail my persuasion check to say "I thought there was where you kept the spare pens" (a 17 in 20 chance of success due to my stats and choices). I find myself in a cell and now it's the story of my prison escape. The options make the RNG fun. I've been watching a lets play between playing (I'm careful to stay ahead of any story spoilers) and I'm surprised at how different his game events are from mine. Not the big events, (druids, the three, the city) but the small details. That's just the type of good game design that we don't see much of nowadays. I would say that a good 50% of the possible story is hidden behind good or bad dice rolls. And it means that on my next playthrough, even if I make the same character and the same choices, I'll still have a significantly different story, just because of the RNG.
Im so glad this game is so great. A breath of fresh air for gamers with good gaming pcs. My rig wont run it and lacks the space but im glad to hear people enjoying it. I still play 1&2 quite a bit. The baldurs gate games never get old. So many possibilities.

Gotta agree, verticality in the game is so good. Jump, especially with enhanced leap or some features that allow for insane jumping distance, and Misty Step (fly is also, tho more niche and costly one) are not only cool exploration tools, but also strategy-important skills/spells, make combat much more dynamic.
Verticality in open areas? Absolutely. Multi-floor buildings - N I G H T M A R E A specific mansion in act 3 gives me shivers every time I think of it, it's godawful to navigate :(
I unlocked unlimited no cast 24/7 flight through illithid powers, but that was maybe 60% through the game I think. Costs no bonus action (or action) so I never jump anymore. I don't walk in combat.

This was a very good video. The Oblivion music was really, really relaxing. Oh, and the Baldur's Gate 3 discussion made me buy the game on Steam...Heh heh. Only £49.99!!! God help me with Act 3, I hear it has issues though. Note, this is my first Baldur's Gate game since PS 2 and Baldur's Gate : Deadly Alliance 1 and 2! Since oh 2003?
I like this video, I like your energy, I like your face. I feel the passion in your voice. Keep making videos that you're passionate about. It's great!
you know a game is outstanding good when you go to sleep thinking about how the story might go on and you wake up and the first thing you think is "gonna turn on my PC and play now"
Uh oh. Saying 5e is your favorite edition is a summoning chant for the gate-keeping trolls of Neverwash, in the high region of the Beardneck mountains. Lol. That being said, I agree on 5e, and on Baldur's Gate 3. The game is a masterpiece. After I finished my playthroughs, I actually went back to playing Neverwinter again.
If anything you get way too many magic items for D&D 😂 I recommend playing a githyanki. For me it turned into a weird buddy adventure story with Lae'zel. She really opens up earlier and there are some unique interactions. Plus with a spellcasting class you get medium armor for free.
I'd actually agree with that. You get a tooon of trinkets in BG3. Way more than I'd ever give any of my players lol Great idea! I have not tried a Gith or buddying up with Lae'zel. Will definitely have to revisit that.
@@thecoffeeman1 Yeah, but in a tabletop game the DM usually somewhat selects magic items which fit the players and the characters they want to play, and they can also quest for the specific items they want. BG3 isn't quite as flexible, so they just give you more items so you can select your favourites for your build.
When BG3 was coming out, I knew that Starfield wasn't too far behind it. I chose not to buy BG3 and play Starfield instead. After 100 hours of Starfield, I think I may have chosen poorly... Don't get me wrong, Starfield is a good game. It's just not an amazing game. I do look forward to seeing what the typical Bethesda mod scene is going to do with it though. Baldur's Gate 3 is definitely on my wishlist now though!
I’m obsessed with this game in a way I haven’t been for over 20 years, when I was still a teenager. For once, the hype is real. I was a bit skeptic about playing BG3 since I tried but never got into Divinity, but boy, am I glad I took the plunge. 50+ hours into BG3, I keep asking myself “there’s got to be a low point soon”, but it just never happens. Baldur’s Gate 3 is the game of the decade for me, and absolutely one of the top three games of all time. It is the pure essence of RPG:s, where every single choice ACTUALLY matters over the entire game and everything you do has consequences. Spectacular sound design and soundtrack, engaging and fun combat, amazing voice acting and animation. It’s a 12/10 for me. ❤❤❤
I roughly played the PS2 version, years ago with a friend. Though I couldn't remember anything besides resurrection a skeleton.. Built a computer over the holidays just bought this game, 3 weeks later I'm 46 hours in. I cannot stop thinking about this game. This is pure addiction
Let's do the talks! I like listening to your longer videos while i drive, so having a video less focused on gameplay every now and then would be excellent.
I'd love to see you make interesting character builds or any type of BG3 content for your main channel, man. I couldn't even finish Act 1 because i don't have much free time these days, but itd be cool to experience the game through your videos!
honestly, this game is really good and you don’t really notice just how good it actually is until you really look around and see all the subtle nuance that there is hidden away. Ultimately the choices you make in the things you do are more or less ephemeral because by the time you get to the end game, not really much matters you have a few options based on a few things you’ve done but that’s about it. However, when you explore all the little nooks and crannies and take different options along the way, it will make sure that by the time you reach and game you will have had a much richer experience and the weight of your choices will bear down on you much more heavily than if you just followed the most direct pass through the game just to get to the ending as quickly as possible. I think one of the biggest joys of this type of game is that each time you enter a combat or even just a different area you have 1 million different ways you could approach those scenarios. Like I said, if you just follow the most direct path, then the payoff will be less. but if you experiment and try different things go different places use different tactics then you will really be amazed by the breast and scope of this game in regards to the choices that you have with the situation.
In my 1st playthrough, I romanced Karlach and by Act 3, I was legitimately dreading the end because I didn't expect her story to end well. When I saw the option to go to Avernus with her so that she wouldn't be alone, I nearly jumped out of my chair with excitement. I haven't so much about companion characters in a video game since the Mass Effect series.
One nitpick I have about BG3 is how easy you can access the different approaches to a situation. A bit hard to put into words what I mean, but I'll try with some examples. You mentioned how mobility plays into exploration, and a very useful tool for that is misty step. The issue I have is that I never got into a position where I thought "oh, I wish one of my party members had misty step right now", because there always would be someone. The gith get a misty step as a racial ability, nine of the classes can access the spell (though not all of their subclasses), and there are two items that grant you the spell. It's similar when it comes to jumping. I either have characters with high strength to jump far, or with the enhanced leap spell (or a potion of vaulting). How about talking to animals? Well, quite a few classes and one race can do that, but there are also enough potions of animal speaking in the game that you can go through an entire playthrough speaking to every single animal without ever needing anyone with the actual spell for it. A similar point can be made about speaking to the dead, thanks to a certain very early game item. Let's just say that I like how the game gives me a variety of tools to deal with every situation, but that it gives me too many of them. I'd like a little more moments where I'm limited in my options because of my party composition and what I have in my backpack. Pretty long comment for a nitpick, but it really is just a nitpick.
@@statistical-cats-sophia I don't think it affects loot, but it does affect how much need you have for all those scrolls and potions. I'll try a tactician playthrough.
@FlyingFox86 tactician is great And it really changes up some of the fight mechanics. Gives enemies extra abilities, passives, etc. on top of small stat buffs
I was expecting better looking cofee like proper espresso from the Coffee Man. Other than that I do agree with you, this game is the best game I played sicne The Witcher 3. The characters you injteract with feel alive, teh story is gripping and the gameplay is great. The cherry on top is meeting the characters that were in previoous games for those, like me, who played and loved them way back when they were the best CRPG around.
PLEASE play more baldurs gate my guy! i know you're all about morrowind and all things elder scrolls but id love to see you branch out to some other stuff but still stick to your roots. one of my favourite youtubers and i'll watch no matter what you do man. just keep being cool.
for some reason while watching you, I’m getting Peter Griffin vibes. “ do you know what really grinds my gears?”… like I was waiting for you to say that. 😂
funny note on the end, bg3 was also one of the first games in a LONG long time that i heard a LOT of people talking about just in casual conversation. i worked at a restaurant then and id hear customers talking about it amongst themselves at least twice a week for the first few months after it came out. and considering it was a cocktail bar i was very surprised haha
you know, one of the things I thought about years ago as games were evolving and growing, and the various systems were becoming more powerful. Is that games? Don’t need to be necessarily these ultra realistic, huge things that rewrite the wheel all the time. Instead you can just make, a more focused game so much deeper and more complex with the interactions and the options and the different things you can do where that wouldn’t be possible before
funnily enough the last time I enjoyed a game this much it was divinity original sin 2. I'm 100% Larians target audience and I'll be there every step of the way. they are masters of their craft.
On the point of loot, the most important thing in BG3 is, the loot is meaningful. Any magic item you get is useful at least once or in a certain circumstance. There is this ring in act one that just gives you +1 to religion and +1 to arcana. Absolutely nothing special. But if you keep it around until act 3, it will come in useful when you get to a certain artifact beneath the city of Baldur's Gate. Yes, mundane loot is just a different kind of gold reward, but that ties into it's own minigame of selling items to vendors and as such it's a different kind of reward.

This video wouldn't load for me, i tried watching it a couple hours ago. I tried back to back, and going between this and other videos. Even restarting the app. What could have caused that?
still have not finished a single playthrough am lost on where to go. stuck at road to Baldur's gate, and cant figure how to get past it. yea could look it up but no fun in that.
I feel like I have 1 million comments I need to just make a channel where I react to everybody. But I grew up playing dungeons and dragons to me. I love D&D, but it feels kind of antiquated to me like compared to just modern gaming in general. I feel like as of now what are we up to fifth edition the world has gone so weird with little things as far as the DND setting is concerned. I mean we got all the different weird stuff going on with your party members which I won’t get into to avoid spoilers. I mean I guess in the world of dungeons and dragons anything can happen and that’s kind of what BG three encapsulates, but I will never get tired of simple people, and with no crazy history, somehow going on a heroes journey and getting wrapped up in larger than life adventures
Im listening and thinking, yeah theres a game that won trophys and then you mention Disco Elysium.. uuh thank god cause that was/is Masterpiece still.. narratively kind but still.
Personally I barely consider skyrim an rpg. There's almost no actual role playing built in past character creation and The world is so unreactive it's weird. The fact that you can join the dark brotherhood and kill the emperor and it has no effect on the civil war is hilarious
World is a bit unreactive sure, but playing thief assassin khajit and one shotting enemies in legendary was seriously fun for me and helped cope with the decline of assassins creed.
I have zero interest in whatever social media, Twitter, Facebook tick-tock any of that crap I just kind of sort of got into Facebook a little bit and other than that I just watch UA-cam that’s pretty much it if it doesn’t exist on UA-cam, I could care less about it. Watching people play video games or do anything else for that matter it’s pretty boring to me. The only exception was when I was watching Bob Ross paint on TV but even then I can only watch that shit for so long before falling asleep. I am a grab life by the horns kind of guy who gets out there and does what he wants and takes what he wants Mr‘s game I want to play. I’ll go out and play if there’s a thing I want to do I’ll go out and do it. So yeah, bottom line is Twitter change its name whatever I didn’t grow up in an era where social media even existed I kind of opted out of it and ignored it for the last 10 years or so.
If you love RPG games, but don't mind reading a lot, just like morrowind, you should check out Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous by Owlcat. It's a better rpg than bg3 imo. It does all the rpg aspects much better, but it's smaller production compared to bg3. but not really that indie either. i m surprised that you said no other rpg holds a torch to bg3 in the last 5y.. i m not saying bg3 is bad, i just think wotr executes on all the important rpg features a lot better. but it's less accessible cause it barely has any voice acting and the game mechanics are complex. but for a morrowind fan these shouldn't be an issue. so yeah, check it out!
I don't think it is better than BG 3. Maybe more character customization yes but not in RP aspect, like decision making and how your actions affect the world. Like for example you can't steal things in that game, while in BG3 you can pickpocket and steal. Fail and end up in jail, which makes your adventures take a different turn.
WOTR is a great game, but it is NOWHERE NEAR as good a game as Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s clunky, more linear, and offers less choice and consequence. And the Pathfinder rules are far less user-friendly when compared to D&D 5E.
I feel sorry that you enjoy mediocrity, playing other crpgs's free me from being fed slop like the little piggie i was from the bethesda trowel. Playing other games like dragon age origins, kenshi, wrath of the righteous, and monster hunter dos has opened my eyes as if i was on some kind of stimulant. I can tell tes vi is going to suck, imagine starfield without space; painfully bland slop from the slop factory.

That being said, I agree on 5e, and on Baldur's Gate 3. The game is a masterpiece. After I finished my playthroughs, I actually went back to playing Neverwinter again.
If anything you get way too many magic items for D&D 😂
I recommend playing a githyanki. For me it turned into a weird buddy adventure story with Lae'zel. She really opens up earlier and there are some unique interactions. Plus with a spellcasting class you get medium armor for free.
I'd actually agree with that. You get a tooon of trinkets in BG3. Way more than I'd ever give any of my players lol
Great idea!
But they look like the grinch screwed yomama...
You need BG3 asap, honestly.
Talk is good, too. I love the process of analyzing content by talking it out
ahhh morrowwind oh yes that was a badass game.
Hell yeah it was! Thanks for watching 🤘
Bg3 has become my favourite game ever I’ve always loved Skyrim, and Dragon age and I’m just glad that RPG’s still have passionate game developers ^~^
new viewer glad i have something to watch with my morning coffee now !!
Welcome aboard! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
I roughly played the PS2 version, years ago with a friend.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear you're enjoying the vids 👍
I'd love to see you make interesting character builds or any type of BG3 content for your main channel, man.
I couldn't even finish Act 1 because i don't have much free time these days, but itd be cool to experience the game through your videos!
I like your opinions so I like this video :D but you are a cool dude in general. I feel like I would love retrospective videos from you
First time on the channel, love it!
Lazel in Grymforge, I don't use any levers, simple jump to end, it was interesting exploring, and that traps can be jump over helps.
it’s just a 10/10 for me. if they improve the frickin camera adjustment they deserve to be turned to 11.
Omg! Love the beard!
Baldur's Gate 3 is the best game of the history
honestly, this game is really good and you don’t really notice just how good it actually is until you really look around and see all the subtle nuance that there is hidden away.
Baulder's Great.
Pretty long comment for a nitpick, but it really is just a nitpick.
your nitpick is something that appeals to many players so I don't see them narrowing the options anytime soon.
@@kvd9600 Very true.
Would playing in Tactician mode perhaps limit how many of those resources are popping up, at least in terms of potions n such? Maybe that'd help
@@statistical-cats-sophia I don't think it affects loot, but it does affect how much need you have for all those scrolls and potions. I'll try a tactician playthrough.
@FlyingFox86 tactician is great
And it really changes up some of the fight mechanics. Gives enemies extra abilities, passives, etc. on top of small stat buffs
I finally convinced myself to stop picking up rotten food and bones. It turns out I probably won't need them later. LOL!
I was hoping that throwing rotten food would discharge a debuff, like the enemies will take a turn barfing or something.
@@RaZeyLWindBladEBrilliant. If not, it should.
I'm 36. Been playing games since I was able. Bg3 is probably the greatest game I've ever played and easily the favorite.
Well spoken.
PLEASE play more baldurs gate my guy! i know you're all about morrowind and all things elder scrolls but id love to see you branch out to some other stuff but still stick to your roots. one of my favourite youtubers and i'll watch no matter what you do man. just keep being cool.
In 3 dimensional space, vertically is the Z axis. Lol. 😝
for some reason while watching you, I’m getting Peter Griffin vibes. “ do you know what really grinds my gears?”… like I was waiting for you to say that. 😂
Juat subbed.
Coz you look like a rpg romance option.
😊
after 3 years of no PC and only having a switch…. baldurs gate 3 and morrowind are two VERY convincing reasons trying to get me to get a PC again haha
funny note on the end, bg3 was also one of the first games in a LONG long time that i heard a LOT of people talking about just in casual conversation. i worked at a restaurant then and id hear customers talking about it amongst themselves at least twice a week for the first few months after it came out. and considering it was a cocktail bar i was very surprised haha
I think if fallout series continued as it is back then... it should be like BG3
you know, one of the things I thought about years ago as games were evolving and growing, and the various systems were becoming more powerful. Is that games? Don’t need to be necessarily these ultra realistic, huge things that rewrite the wheel all the time. Instead you can just make, a more focused game so much deeper and more complex with the interactions and the options and the different things you can do where that wouldn’t be possible before
Mighty fine beard
funnily enough the last time I enjoyed a game this much it was divinity original sin 2.
Our Lady of Silver. Hear me!
She who guides, the Moonmaiden Selûne

Good format, good points. I would be one that disagrees with this game and how good it is .... but, i mean some people like Red Snapper, i do not. Doesnt mean its bad, just means i dont like it lol.
One word, THAC0
Ha ha
the best way to find out if a player is an old school player Is by asking them how they feel about THaCo

I liked and subscribed
This video wouldn't load for me, i tried watching it a couple hours ago. I tried back to back, and going between this and other videos. Even restarting the app. What could have caused that?
That's really strange. Sadly no idea on my end. Hope it buffered eventually!
still have not finished a single playthrough am lost on where to go. stuck at road to Baldur's gate, and cant figure how to get past it. yea could look it up but no fun in that.
Have you tried playing the Owlcat Pathfinder games (Kingmaker, and Wrath of the Righteous)? I'd be interested in your thoughts about them
I have not, but they are certainly on my radar
Great video. Great game. Swen Vincke is the GOAT. Swen also has the most mispronounced name in history.
Destroying the toxic image twitter had built up sounds like a good idea to me. I wont use it either way, but the people who do will continue to.
BG3 is both the best dating Sim of all time and the best rpg of all time
When will Levitate come back to The Elder Scrolls?
@@swordofkhaine8464 yeah the only fun way to play the game is to avoid as much combat as possible
It just
If you love RPG games, but don't mind reading a lot, just like morrowind, you should check out Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous by Owlcat.
I'll definitely check it out! Thanks for the recommendation
Tried it
Didn't care
I feel sorry that you enjoy mediocrity, playing other crpgs's free me from being fed slop like the little piggie i was from the bethesda trowel. Playing other games like dragon age origins, kenshi, wrath of the righteous, and monster hunter dos has opened my eyes as if i was on some kind of stimulant. I can tell tes vi is going to suck, imagine starfield without space; painfully bland slop from the slop factory.
moar playing (live!), less talking, i'd say! :D
We'll be back live on Twitch real soon! Don't you worry 🤘
