    Enchanted inks, ah, I'm having flashbacks to the unbelievable number of enchanted inks I've made (and the nightmare of gathering the materials) because I'm the only alchemist in the room who could make those faded copies useful. But that effort I put into alchemy-ing is what makes me proud to have unlocked ALC and appreciate this video a lot!

      I think my choice of alchemy as my first crafting school was an echo of my own interest in science back in school as a teenager though I think my choice was also related to how I chose to be a Summoner and Scholar. Perhaps even related to my choice of White Mage as I have a natural inclination towards healing. I do wish I hadn’t spent much time on culinary as I hated it.
      But I’m taking up blacksmith partially because our Scribe reminded me of it and of course my enjoyment of watching Forged in Fire as that features blade and weapon smithing competitions. I’ve picked up a surprising amount of knowledge from it.

      I have to agree about gathering the materials for Alchemist. With what materials we need to get for the Alchemist’s recipes, it can be a pain to remember what enemies drop the monster drops you need. Like blood, horns, tears, or scale.

    "Dubbed a "god in the machina" by those who first discovered it, modern scholars have yet to discover not only what the catalytic agent contains, but exactly how it functions, understanding only that the substance is required to strengthen the properties of certain materials."
    So uh... any chance these catalysts are, if not philosopher stones themselves, prototypes of a true philosopher stone??
    Edit: Meant to say that the catalysts in question are the in-game item called "Allagan Catalyst"

      If any civilization got the closest to making the Philosopher's Stone it was definitely the Allagans.

    As an alchemist myself, I find your lesson sufficient for the small period of time you gave yourself. Of course, as you said, it's difficult to properly convey what an alchemist does and can do in the span of a single lesson, but I believe you did the best one could do. If you're curious, I personally see the Stone as an ideal to aim for, even knowing the impossibility of it.

    Makes you wonder if (and if so, how much) Radz-at-Han's discoveries were influenced by the research of the Allagan Empire.
    I mean, logically there is barely any (or straight-up no) connection, buuuuut...
    Vritra *was* around during the Empire's time. Sure, he had (and has) lots of reason to hate the Empire's guts, but who know what he took from them. Maybe even as some small revenge...

    A lesson without pain is meaningless. That’s because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, they shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart… A fullmetal heart.

    I love these videos a lot for my RPing and always inspire me to dive deeper into FFXIV. My only gripe was the part around 5:09 where you framed earlier alchemical practices as "crude or barbaric." Just because they were "ancient" in the 1st or 2nd Astral Era doesn't mean they weren't scientific breakthroughs in and of themselves! A real world example being pyramids in Egypt or Mexico standing tall, weathering the elements after thousands of years. This was engineering before engineering became "Engineering". Just cause the Allagans went a step further shouldn't categorize their feats as 'technology' and earlier creations as 'not technology'. Regardless, love the videos! Always a joy to watch😊

      @SynodicScribe  2 роки тому

      We've literally no data of alchemy from the 1st or 2nd Era. I just said that to fill space man. Don't read to hard into it. lol

      @@SynodicScribe I read deeply into language because it's a powerful tool and it's something I enjoy doing. It was just a general note on the language used in a very small portion of the video. For this specific thing, I just think it's useful for us as storytellers to not fall into the trope of reducing ancient feats to "crude" or "barbaric", that's all. Obvious effort and intention was put into your video and it took nothing away from that.

    It's a shame people dont use curative debuff potions, like antidote spine drops echo drops. I personally have spine drops in my invo at all times especially if I'm in a caster role. Aside from that I can only think of raiders who use the buff potions. I hope Alchemist gets a revival of some kind because I dont see it as prominent as say the Carpenter Armour Blacksmith Goldsmith Weaver and Leatherworker

      @@SynodicScribe for fun lol but real talk they are useful in a pinch during low level content when synced. The potions dont sync down becoming unusable so anything high end is fair game. I like to restock them with HoH hahha

    If I were to take a guess I would say the three most influential nation in the modern era are the Garlean Empire, Old Sharlayan and Radz-at-Han.
