I met Neal when I was 9 years old. He gave me his signed sticks from the test for echo tour. They are now in a shadow box in my bedroom. The mother to my children died and I was super lucky to find me a new partner that helped me raise my kids since they were toddlers. This song makes me look at those drum sticks and remember how mystic life can be and how un lucky and lucky I am. Neil was mystic and his writing encourages the brain to look beyond the box. I Love Rush RIP Neil
Unlike a lot of hardcore Rush fans I liked this period of Rush. For me there is no such thing as a traditional Rush album, these guys can do whatever the fuck they want and do it really well. That's always what I loved about this band. Power Windows blew every other new wave/synthrock album out of the water in the 80's.
A lot of people, it would seem, are just turned off by the timbre of the 80s keyboards, which is a shame, because the material on Power Windows is some of the best they've ever done.
Every single track on Power Windows is amazing, I love how they went heavy on the synth/keyboard despite what others may think about it. I'd say its in my top 3 favorite Rush albums.
Same. I've gone months without crying at his passing. Tthen you mentioned this. Damn. He may not have been able to pretend a stranger was a long-awaited friend, but to us, we knew him better than he knew us. And we loved him anyways. Now I'm off to find paper towel.
This song, along with Marathon, Middletown Dreams, & Manhattan Project are just astronomically phenomenal. Feels like a trip through the streets of a futuristic suburb.
To all the Rush pre-1984 purists, this is some of the Rushiest Rush that Rush ever Rushed and you know it. Wait a minute, what am I saying? They're not watching this.
Producer Peter Collins said the vocal sound was one area he could definitely improve. He was right vs gup and there are many multi-harmony parts on PW that they had not tried before.
This song is better than drugs. No matter how many times I listen to this song is still strikes emotion and a sort of euphoria for me. Absolute brilliance and perfection from some of the best minds in music.

The whole album is incredible! It’s a perfect blend of guitar bass drums keyboards and synths. Neil’s writing on this album is thoughtful and insightful. It’s like he’s in the room talking to you!
Funny how songs like these have the power to make one travel time back to one's youth and relive the way we felt back then. Life looked promising, magical almost and uncomplicated those years, didn't it?
Not only was Neil the greatest drummer in rock music, he was also the most innovative. This video is a clear example of that. Not only is the grove awesome but the opening scene shows his back facing the front of his drum set (something that had never been done before) because he is playing his second kit opposite side which is made up entirely of electronics (another thing that had never been done before). Plus it was on a revolving drum kit (another first). And keep in mind that his cymbals are now reversed as well and it didn't phase him one bit. He was truly a master of his craft, an innovator, and the most fun to watch. I will always miss his playing.
This song on "A Show of Hands" completed my conversion into a Rush fan. Didnt get to see it live until The Counterparts Tour and again on R30. I absolutely love this song. All-time favorite Rush tune. I Love when then band says Power Windows is one of their all-time best records.
Also throughout this song he is triggering with his left foot. This song shows the level of technical playing ability Neil Peart had evolved. Separating his right and left hands and feet to create some mind bending patterns. That's why I love the intro on Mystic Rythms...

I actually remember when "Power Windows" album was premiered on our local rock station in its entirety at midnight, on the day of the album release. I remember that I was in my first year college and my buddies were all huddled near the radio in anticipation, knowing that this was going to be the first Rush album that was digitally recorded AND digitally mastered. "The more we think we know about, the greater the unknown". - Neil Peart. My favorite Rush lyric ever. And so Neil Peart. He never stopped learning, and expanding his knowledge!
For me Rush was a battle in my mind at 12, their lyrics (spirit of the radio vs PF's the Wall) were far more profound than I could fathom. Every time I saw them in concert, I learned more about ME, the Universe and humankind. Could I now have spent that money on a Maserati, perhaps, but I treasure every moment of their music, their intelligence and their humor. We are so blessed to have had this trio in our lives.
Man, what can I say about rush these guys were a different level the 70s and 80s I mean even to this day, I can’t even comprehend songs that complicated is phenomenal. Thank you, Rush you are truly blessed into the Canadian Hall of Fame.
***** Agree to disagree then. I think it's the worst album of their career. I DO have a soft spot for the Different Stages version of the Roll the Bones song for some reason..................it just "does it" for me.
This is possibly the best form of chillwave ever (and chillwave didn't even exist at the same time). All those Moving Pictures listeners have to listen to this track
After hearing "the news" today (January 10, 2020) I don't want me or you to feel sad or cry. I just want to recommend that we all binge watch all of Rush's music videos this weekend to celebrate the band & Neil's contribution to their music.🧡
I'm sorry, but any RUSH 'fan' that doesn't like this era just doesn't understand the band and what the creative process entails...Yes, even the band thinks they wandered a bit far into synth world but, oh, what a wonderful journey! Thank you, gentlemen!
No, only '75-'82. Those were the 'great times' for Rush, no exceptions. My opinion is what matters here. I included Signals because Terry Brown still was producer and Rush, or should I say Geddy hadn't yet gone full tilt synth... at the expense of Alex's guitars. J/k on my opinion is what matters... we all like what we like. Love this tune but Power Windows was it for me... I know nothing about Rush music after 1985.
This album is brilliant. Can't see why anyone doesn't like it. Some people say it's not Rush but in my opinion it's all part of what makes up rush :) . Love the video
I agree this is one of Rush's top albums for sure the crown of the synthesizer era. I don't know people are always hating on the Rush synthesizer era. I know Hold You're Fire wasn't really well received, but every band has some stinkers out there, for Rush Hold You're Fire and Caress of Steel are probably what they would consider there (2) stinker albums. Rush's management I don't think liked Hold You're Fire because after that album there music changed and they got back to harder sounding music, which there management wanted and I know Lifeson had enough of the synthesizer key board era. Geddy Lee was big on the key boards and synthesizer. However this was a good album.
Agreed, the legacy of Rush includes the greatness of all their variations. I'm 50 now, and got turned on to Rush in junior high in the late 70s. Loved their sound immediately and loved hearing them evolve and change, but somehow always remained clearly Rush. With so much variety I have never stopped craving listening to them. The only thing that keeps changing is my favorite album/era. I've never truly settled on a favorite and don't think I ever will. If I go a few months or years without listening to something from Rush, I always find myself rediscovering that something, yet again, and my enjoyment is renewed and reenergized. They just do every variation of themselves so perfectly that you can't help but appreciate all of it.
I'm as big a Rush fan as the next guy, but this is simply not my favorite manifestation. I certainly appreciate it for what it was and what they were trying to get across. That's what makes these three guys so great; they tried everything (except country & western, thank Christ).
I hear that brother we always remember the ones that saved our lives. Rush ,Motörhead ,Iron Maiden just to name a few. These guys were real like you and me ,they sang about true experience’s and real life events. we can relate to the sound of thundering drums, the lick of the guitar, the thumping bass guitar and deep lyrics joined by a powerful voice! that let’s us know where alive! This is where my best memories lye due to music made by great bands. So cheers 🍻 to music and memories!! (one can not exist without the other).
How many of us freaked out in 1986 when we saw the intro to Mystic Rhythms!! I'm a drummer, and Neil is my favorite! It was magic. I started my first of 15 shows shortly after!

The lyrics written by a man with the mind of genius, totally at peace with himself.
He's also a frikin great drummer...
+Jim M The good old days, before Neil lost his daughter and wife within 10 months of each other
Well said
+Colonel Kurtz SPOT ON!
+Colonel Kurtz He's said himself ,he's just shy and gets creeped out when people idolize him.
"The more we think we know about, the greater the unknown". - Neil Peart. My favorite Rush lyric ever. And so Neil Peart. He never stopped learning, and expanding his knowledge!
ALWAYS, ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR
Rest in peace neil. Our hearts are heavy today. We love you
For me Rush was a battle in my mind at 12, their lyrics (spirit of the radio vs PF's the Wall) were far more profound than I could fathom.
I can't believe people say this is their worst album. This is amazing!!
+Captain Pie Fox: Agreed!
+lurch321 HEY! I *like* Roll The Bones... :-)
***** Agree to disagree then. I think it's the worst album of their career. I DO have a soft spot for the Different Stages version of the Roll the Bones song for some reason..................it just "does it" for me.
+lurch321 yeah, roll the bones just doesn't hit that 'Rush spot' in my mind for me
+lurch321 I'm fine with rtb. Test For Echo, on the other hand, has a few good songs, but it's still their worst album imo
This is possibly the best form of chillwave ever (and chillwave didn't even exist at the same time). All those Moving Pictures listeners have to listen to this track
Little bit of a Tom Sawyer riff in here
This has to be their best Music Video.
Power Windows is an underrated album. I was 15 when I got that one and it's a regular on my turntable.
Rest In Power, Professor!!!!!!!
RIP Neil, we miss you here man.
Youll never be forgotten.
After hearing "the news" today (January 10, 2020) I don't want me or you to feel sad or cry. I just want to recommend that we all binge watch all of Rush's music videos this weekend to celebrate the band & Neil's contribution to their music.🧡
Doing that right now..!!!
RUSH, masters of the universe.
Such a positive vibe to all of us who love them.
RIP Neil, you are deeply missed.
Thank you for all you have given us.
RIP Neil Peart, one of my favourite Rush songs
This is definitely my favorite Rush song!
Amber, you have great taste in music
I happen to love this era of Rush ! It goes perfectly with the Police!
RUSH is the greatest rock band of all time.
Countless hours of air drumming.. Neil Peart lives on!
RUSH !! The only rock band with such commitment.
Once upon a time, artists actually had to put effort into writing and composing a song. RIP, music.
Couldn't of said it better. Back in time artists use to have talent...RIP music
Unbelievable band.
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Old Van Halen
Iron maiden
&
Rush,........They changed the world.
Professor, greatest drummer ever, RIP
I'm sorry, but any RUSH 'fan' that doesn't like this era just doesn't understand the band and what the creative process entails...Yes, even the band thinks they wandered a bit far into synth world but, oh, what a wonderful journey! Thank you, gentlemen!
"We suspend our disbelief, we are entertained.
Ohhhh, .... the African sun!"
+David Pratt Fair enough. BTW, sorry my Seahawks took Jimmy Graham from your Saints. Who dat!
Not to mention that Geddy played a brilliant African chant on this track by playing his synth.
Missing Neil... R.I.P. Professor ... this was Rush, adapted to the 80´s.... made possible by the Gefilter 😄 ... loving it since´85!
One of my favorite Rush songs
I haven't missed a RUSH concert since 1984 ! this is in my top five of their songs that I love the best
What are your other top four?
We're still waiting to learn what your other four favorite Rush songs are. Please respond, it's been years since the question's been asked. Thanks
Closer to the heart, Mission, Second Nature and the all time favorite the 2112 album
this song just blows me away every time its so earthy sounding it just hits you on an almost animal level
Alex Rinaldi this song and High Water have very similar rhythms, almost like an enormous planetary heartbeat that our bodies are attuned to naturally.
It’s more of an African-style rhythm. And their rhythms are just so pure and.....well, mystic
Rest In Peace (RIP), Neil Peart
80's and 90's were great times for Rush music.
All times were their best
They were a good time for music, period.
I have to say my favorite was 2112 in 1974 but loved the 80's as well for Rush.
70s 80s
No, only '75-'82. Those were the 'great times' for Rush, no exceptions. My opinion is what matters here. I included Signals because Terry Brown still was producer and Rush, or should I say Geddy hadn't yet gone full tilt synth... at the expense of Alex's guitars. J/k on my opinion is what matters... we all like what we like. Love this tune but Power Windows was it for me... I know nothing about Rush music after 1985.
I didn't know Tom Hanks could play the drums 😂🥁
I can't unsee it 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
This album is brilliant. Can't see why anyone doesn't like it. Some people say it's not Rush but in my opinion it's all part of what makes up rush :) . Love the video
I think it can't get more Rush than this. It's the way they should sound.
@@harveyvid Actually, they did do country (kinda, sorta) with the song, Cold Fire.
RIP NEIL. You'll keep being my only god ever.
Arguably Rush's best music video to date.
+TheMoonchild1969 Directed by Gerald Casale of Devo. That might have something to do with it. :D
Umm no, this is one of the cheesy ones for sure

@@ukkovuorela4196 I think it holds up super well
Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire. Still my favorite Rush era.
Rush has got me through some very rough times. And Motorhead venom andTank
Neal we miss you already .Very humble and was not a celebrity he was a musician!!! Big difference. ❤️this song !
This song brings back to 8th grade, when I discovered RUSH.
How many of us freaked out in 1986 when we saw the intro to Mystic Rhythms!!
I'm a drummer, and Neil is my favorite!
It was magic. I started my first of 15 shows shortly after!
