@@mengx94 I totally get your point, twelve other channels showcased this car this a.m. but in my opinion they go above and beyond the other channels or atleast showcase it in a way that's more appealing to me personally.
No mention of the amazing engineering of the engine. 3 cylinders with each cylinder making its own 100hp is pretty amazing and deserves its own stand alone video.
As amazing as the engine and drive train are, combined with some more cooling, braking power, welds and adhesives doesn’t justify charging TWICE as much as a well equipped regular Corolla. I knew this car would be expensive but it’s ridiculously expensive. 42k for a Corolla that doesn’t have Recaro-quality seats, direct link shifter, padded interior touch points, or even half the creature comforts of a basic Mazda 3 Hatchback…I’m lost on this one. The Circuit is worth 35k and anybody paying over that isn’t shopping around because there are far more competitive products for 40 grand. And at 50 grand the Morizo is a joke. A Mazda Miata is a better track car for half the price because unlike the Morizo you can walk into a Mazda dealer and get one at MSRP. I suspect Toyota didn’t intend to charge this much but with the Focus and Impreza exiting the competition, they were emboldened to bend people over because without competition they know people will pay 50k-60k for a plastic Corolla with 300hp. It’s humbling they brought this car here, but I would have preferred the Yaris, which looks better, is faster, and costs 32k.
@@emotionz3 No worries...Toyota will sell every one of them. - Track cars are neat...but that isn't the real world where people drive in rain, snow, mud, potholes, etc. - Mazda's are good cars, but Toyota still builds the most reliable cars on the planet. That brand recognition AND product integrity is something other car companies strive to emulate but don't duplicate.
Even the Poverty Spec will be at least $45k after the dealer non-con fees. Hopefully the market will calm down in 5 years, and hopefully this car will still be in production by then. I would absolutely buy one for a fair price.
It's hard to get excited about new cars because dealerships are making it impossible to afford it with the mark ups. Like the new Z, the manual Supra I mean the list goes on.
Give the Z two years. Nissan will not limit supply. Once the supply chain issues are solved, Nissan will make as many as they can sell and the dealers will not be charging huge markups.
Some auto manufacturers have banned dealers from selling any of their cars over MSRP. If caught they lose the right to sell the cars forever! This should be implemented by all manufacturers.
@@vapeking466 they sent out a memo. It was ford that did it. Will they actually follow through? Fuck no. They can threaten them and tell them they will with hold vehicles from their lots but until it goes the way of Tesla I don't see it stopping.
One thing that's unique among the processes used by Toyota (and Lexus by extension) is the concept that parts don't HAVE to be perfect as long as the combination is - and I'm glad to see them continuing to use that philosophy to make the best car possible.
@@RotchildFrancoisJr I don't really have any readings about this but for example the RCF is a combination of the GS and IS parts and its a great car. Also the new IS500 has combined parts of the RC and GS.
I wonder if there is a major caveat that - once you need to replace parts, they’ll never match well again? Or I guess that philosophy applies only to major suspension parts and things that are designed for the life of the car… Well, I guess the third owners that replace suspension arms and dampers and stuff are just gonna throw rockauto budget stuff or tuner coilovers on the car anyway, so it doesn’t matter.
@@Anya-Prime Not necessarily. This is more of an engineering philosophy than anything else. For example, small parts tolerances can be in the tens of thousandths, so two use cases might be matching pistons that might be a half gram heavier with a ring assembly that's a half gram lighter to balance things out or figuring out how to match a part that's over spec by 5 micronswith another part that's under spec by 5 microns to get an assembly that's perfectly in spec, and so on. The same philosophy applies to larger tolerances as well, such as panel gaps and Since everything is recorded nowadays, even if you do need to replace parts, the likelihood is that the shop you go to will have access to the records of which parts with what tolerances are needed where. It's actually a very ingenious system that takes into account the fact that mass production, by its very nature, is not perfect and requires every product to have certain dimensional tolerances to allow for everything from thermal expansion to tool and mold degradation.
@@spdcrzy that makes sense, I figured it was referring to submillimeter tolerances and stuff, but I didn’t know this was a widespread philosophy. Also, you’re saying shops have access to this data for repairs and rebuilds? Like - dealerships and pro race car shops? Or my friendly bob’s auto down the street and enthusiasts with tech data logins? I’ve never heard of these records being available before
I heard (according to Jason from Engineering Explained - who heard it from the Chief Engineer for the GR Corolla) that the car actually drifts better in Front Bias and Track mode relative to Rear Bias mode on dry ground. This is because you're trying to get all 4 wheels spinning when you drift, so if you get the 30/70 split you kick the back out and the front then doesn't have enough torque, so it maintains grip and pulls you out of the drift. However it still might be a bit difficult to swing the rear out completely on dry ground. If you're in a low grip surface then you should use Rear Bias mode and you'll kick the rear out easily. And of course, we still got that manual handbrake, which cuts power to the rear axle when pulled. Thus, you'd want the car in Front Bias mode here so the front has as much torque as possible.
I watched that video too, but I my couch commentator opinion from these reviews is that the feeling of rotation is enhanced in the 30/70 torque split vs the 50/50. This makes sense when you're within the limits of grip, as the rear axle will lock more on and off throttle (depending on how tight they have the rear LSD set), inducing additional weight transfer, aiding rotation. In a slip scenario (ie drift), yes the Toyota engineer and EE's video are correct, having both axles get the same torque will make breaking traction easier on throttle.
@@veryrare7647 They aren't, an AWD car drifts very different to a full RWD car. Unfortunately you can't change the bias to 100% rear due to how the clutch pack system works in the GR Corolla. This is a rally bred car though, so it's meant to be much better suited for more inclement weather and less prepped surfaces (dirt, gravel, snow, etc). A rear drive car like the 240sx would have way too much oversteer for a rally style course anyway. These are just different cars built for different purposes.
@@xxtoptankxx6873 And hardly anyone bought it. Younger buyers have no nostalgic feelings about the class. They're more likely to sell to guys in their forties and fifties (especially since it's a Toyota.)

@@joshuaerickson2458 you’re looking at it from an idealistic perspective. Sure, but Toyota has to also manage its risk…there’s a fine line between wanting the car and actually buying the car. Selling out the GR Corolla represents a strong market and sends the right message (especially in this age of SUV’s and EV’s). It’s simple supply and demand…if Toyota continues to build the GRC (or/increases production) prices will eventually fall. But if you have to be the first one on the block with it, then you’ll just have to pay up. My point is, if the GRC continues to sell well, you’ll get yours too….you just have to be patient. Id say because of this part, channels like throttle house will always be popular. The mechanical part is boring to most viewers TBH
Really enjoy the vids that showcase the engineering from the designers, not that Mr goose and Jack don't do a phenomenal job themselves. This thing looks cool, not in my wheel house but I did add a stripe to the top of my f150 steering wheel with blue tape so watch out on the track circuit .
I don't. Already watched so many videos that showcase the engineering, I mean who hasn't if they're following this car. It's just inflating their video for revenue but whatever.
It’s giving old school Geese
@@mengx94 I totally get your point, twelve other channels showcased this car this a.m. but in my opinion they go above and beyond the other channels or atleast showcase it in a way that's more appealing to me personally.

I only watch SG, so I always like to hear from the engineers too!
No mention of the amazing engineering of the engine. 3 cylinders with each cylinder making its own 100hp is pretty amazing and deserves its own stand alone video.
It'll be in the full review
Don't forget it's turbocharged
-
Track cars are neat...but that isn't the real world where people drive in rain, snow, mud, potholes, etc.
-
Mazda's are good cars, but Toyota still builds the most reliable cars on the planet. That brand recognition AND product integrity is something other car companies strive to emulate but don't duplicate.
No mention of the amazing turbo lag either. I guess it will come up in the street drive.
I'm usually not a fan of digital gauges, but I like how industrial these look. Almost like something out of Gran Turismo
Off cycle Savagegeese drops always bring that extra heat
Even the Poverty Spec will be at least $45k after the dealer non-con fees. Hopefully the market will calm down in 5 years, and hopefully this car will still be in production by then. I would absolutely buy one for a fair price.
1 year later and I got mine at msrp. They also gave me a great trade in on my XSE Corolla
It's hard to get excited about new cars because dealerships are making it impossible to afford it with the mark ups. Like the new Z, the manual Supra I mean the list goes on.
Yep, might as well try to sell this one for 100k plus, cause, why not.
Fuck no. I inquired about a gt500 order and they told me that there will be a minimum of 20k mark up on the order. They won't do a damn thing about it because legally I don't think they can. They can threaten them and tell them they will with hold vehicles from their lots but until it goes the way of Tesla I don't see it stopping.
Sad thing is, if I had money for this, I'd buy two 90s Carolas instead; one for daily one for when the first one exceeds 310,000 miles.
One thing that's unique among the processes used by Toyota (and Lexus by extension) is the concept that parts don't HAVE to be perfect as long as the combination is - and I'm glad to see them continuing to use that philosophy to make the best car possible.
Is there any recommended readings on this? Seems super interesting
In a slip scenario (ie drift), yes the Toyota engineer and EE's video are correct, having both axles get the same torque will make breaking traction easier on throttle.
yea that makes no sense.... theres zero possibility that theyvare talking about the kind of drifting you do in a 240sx

Like saying it is a positive if Amazon sells every item it has for sale. I went to a dealer the other day to see the price on a brand new base Civic, they want 36k! This must be 70k
As for current vehicle prices, I’m not even concerned. If you’re foolish enough to pay the dealer markup on any car, then more power to ya. I would just keep driving my clunker until the current market resolves itself. But then again what is safer? Understeer.
👍👍 Thanks for watching
Let's talk now 🔝🔝.
By their logic, if you wanted more danger you would get the GR Supra. Seems fair.
safe is boring
Thank’s for the driver’s P.O.V. Track tour at the start of the video. More please.
How does it compare to EVOs, STIs and the Focus RS
Look at throttle house’s review.
The GRC is neck and neck with the previous gen STI in a straight, slower than the Golf R in the straight, but faster on the track.
I didn't have them back to back obviously but I would say the Corolla feels way softer and slower under first impressions. But we were also at a higher elevation in the heat and on a track that was very uninspiring
Thanks kid just woke me up something for us to watch
Given the limited production and MRSP (before the dealer markup), this new Corolla will be a hard sell for even some hard core Toyota enthusiasts. It is also likely to hold its value, or even appreciate in value, in years to come as niche market cars like this are getting much more rare. That being said, I think it says a lot about Toyota staying true to is motorsports history by dedicating resources for such an undertaking. Cars like this make the bean counters and shareholders cringe.
The MORIZO edition completely leaps frogs the competition is completely uncalled for but yet impressive being that all the Competition only have one performance trim
Hope you don't mind paying 55k to 60k for base model
Celica Gt four is still one of the best designs ever made for me, a really beautiful car
Me thinking this would be a perfect car for me if I could buy it for MSRP…
Same
Yours is always the first video I'll watch when an embargo lifts. Great review as always!
Toyota builds ~300,000 Camrys a year, but only ~6,600 GR Corollas a year.
I get they have their reasons for doing that, but the GR Corolla coming to the US is just ‘meh’ to me.
One thing you guy forgot to mention, that blows my mind, is this is a 3 cylinder! Impressive Toyota!
LT1 Camaro, best bang for the money.
Yessir
Ty Toyota! Ty SG! I am overjoyed to see when a name brand gives attention to creators such as yourselves.
The only problem here is the price, it cost more than the Golf R. And most likely not gonna be faster.
Have you tried to get a new R? In MI the dealers mark up is STUPID
Car journalism at it's finest and purist.
Toyota nailed it with this
I just took delivery of my core edition. It's a race car. With a roof rack for my bikes.
Anyone else bugged they put the base eco front end on it and not the bad ass SE face?
Ah that's what it is. Something looked off
Holy, hadn't seen this new gen yet, the SE front is really aggressive, maybe even too much for a Corolla, but perfect for the GR.
Which Corolla SE are referring to? The 2022 isn’t all that bad ass imo.
@@bt7482 the SE has a really aggressive Evo like front end where this gr looks Prius/Avalon
Dealers salivating ready to mark these up beyond ur wildest dreams.
will be a future classic for sure. it sucks that these toyota cars are completely unable to be tuned though. not to mention it'll be years before they deliver most of them. siennas are over a year wait at this point, I can't imagine these will be any easier to get
I love my 22’ Corolla XSE 6speed Hatchback. It’s my daily driver so I have not tuned it. I love the rear seat delete on the top tier. I am an empty nester now and I’ve had my seats folded down for at least 6months.
Love the hybrid Corolla with a CVT gearbox, not so sure about this one 😅
Why not?
If you trust a CVT and a hybrid drivetrain, you can 100% trust a regular engine with a manual gearbox.
"Love the hybrid Corolla with a CVT gearbox, not so sure about this one"
This is like saying you love fat women but not so sure about hot supermodels. Allright buddy enjoy your CVT.
@@electrikoptik hahaha true
@@electrikoptik this car ain't so hot. Lil ugly
Congrats on 600k subs!
