It's refreshing to see a redneck (no offense) say positive things about an electric car.
Think of 80% state of charge as your first click at the gas pump... 80% to 100% will be pretty slow going. As long as you have enough range to reach another fast charger, plan for 80% to be max to save time at the charger
Good video. I liked the way he described his trip and the charging station experience. Yeah, waiting 60 minutes to recharge will take some getting use to. But small price to pay when you drive this vehicle. Chevrolet is not the same company that we all know from the 80's and 90's. Let's not even mention the 70's. It has changed and wants to dominate the EV market in years to come. The Bolt is a great value and fun to drive. I love how quiet it is. Looking forward to your next video.
I agree it will take some time to get use to.
@@TTorres1183 You can get 100 miles with 30mins of charging on your bolt ... The current advance for vehicles is Hydrogen vehicles ( No rare minerals needed for the batteries ) with full tanks taking 5mins at gas stations ... Elon Musk has been late to the game, but is now onboard.
I just hit 1600 miles on my 2023 Bolt EV LT-2! I use it as my daily driver and put 100 miles per day on it. I am getting used to the cost per KW and the miles per KW for monthly budgeting. I really got to say that I love this car. I owed 2 chevys when I was younger (1998 chevy truck and 2001 GMC truck) and they had engine/transmission problems and left me stranded! This is not the case with the Bolt it rides like a full size sedan! I have a 2012 Toyota Camry and the Bolt has as good a ride as the Camry. I went thru a wind storm last week on I-5 and I was pretty scared! 60 knot winds with tons of rain and I was impressed with the handling of the Bolt. Passing big rigs was not as scary as I thought! Great informative video and dude you are the man buying this car for your girlfriend!
We love our bolt as well!
would love to power the house with solar. You got it figured out man! hopefully our next home we can do that. Great update on the bolt
Thanks for watching
I have a 2019 Bolt with 110,000 mi on it. 118 miles to work and back the cost savings really adds up. One set of tires and probably 10-15 gallons of wiper fluid is all the maintenance it's ever needed
Love to hear it
Good to hear. I hope I have the same luck with my 2023.
I've got a 2019 that just passed 125k-miles myself. Zero maintenance here as well -- tires and washer fluid. That's all. Well, there was the whole warranty battery swap at like 85k-miles, but the whole battery fiasco didn't affect us negatively at all and we came out of it with more range and an extended battery warranty. The only think we need to do next is the 150k-mile coolant service. I think the battery swap caused 2 out of the 3 coolant loops to have already been flushed, so, even that should be cheaper and quicker than originally planned.
@@mikefarrington7141 Thanks for the info. I hope mine does as well. Love the car so far. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned.
I have one ordered. Thanks for the info.
What’s the estimated wait time from your dealership? I’m really interested in purchasing a bolt euv. I’m worried though that it is on it’s way to be discontinued due to Chevy unveiling it’s new Ultium platform. Any thoughts on this?
Great review ttoress and a great deal of a car!Subbed! I just started my own EV channel too
Everybody loves their Bolt ⚡
Nice review.....I was looking at this until I seen it only comes in 2 wheel drive and since I live in frozen Illinois I have to have a AWD vehicle.....So I was looking around and bought myself a 2023 Corolla LE AWD(First year for Corolla to have AWD).....Paid 28k OTD and it gets 53 mpg.....So I'm sure by the time I get ready to get another vehicle the bev's and the battery technology will be much improved......Enjoy your Bolt it looks like a great bev.
Good job
A couple of comments about the 240 volt outlet. I just got mine installed last week. You mentioned getting a 60 amp breaker. The dual level charger that comes with the Bolt EUV is only rated to 32 amps (see page 229 of the owners manual). You will have to get a different charger if you want to go up to the 48 amp charging option (the only other level 2 option for the EUV). I believe that Chevrolet will only authorize a 40 amp breaker (per their website), of course you might be able to make a deal with your installer. I had to call Chevrolet to actually get the email to kick it all off, but once that happened everything else went fast. I had an installation that wasn't considered standard. The quote from the installer was $1249, chevy paid $1000 and I paid $249, well worth it. I had another electrician give me quote for $2200 (pretty big difference). The cable went from the electrical panel up to the attic then about 26 feet and then down to the outlet in a utility room. The 240 volt (level 2) charging makes a world of difference over the 110 volt charging (level 1).
So the standard charger won’t work on the 60 amp breaker?
@@TTorres1183 Yes the standard charger will work on a 60 amp breaker, but the whole idea behind a breaker is surge protection. The 60 amp breaker won't be thrown until the circuit reaches 60 amps. The standard charger is rated at 32 amps, the EUV is limited to 48 amps (level 2 charging). If you get a short or a surge you could blow out the cable and potentially the Onboard Charging Module (OCM) of the EUV because the breaker won't be thrown until the current reaches 60 amps and maybe the result will be a fire. That's probably why Chevrolet requires a 40 amp breaker when going the Qmerit route.
Good job on the video!. Really sweet suv - great deal. More importantly, where did you find that Honda cabover haha??
Imported from Japan 🇯🇵
I’m also an owner of a ‘23 Bolt EUV, great car. I had to ask the dealer to get the process started with Qmerit too, but once they did it went smoothly. Mine was considered a standard installation, but the installer still billed GM for $1400 + the permit fee. I probably could have gotten it done hiring my own electrician for about $700, but since I didn’t pay for any of it I didn’t complain.
Glad Electrify America works for you, I’ve never had much success. It always gives an error on the app and I have to use the credit card. EVgo is great though with Autocharge, definitely the best system out there. Just wish they had more stations
How are you liking the Bolt so far? I’m really interested in purchasing a bolt euv. I’m worried though that it is on it’s way to be discontinued due to Chevy unveiling it’s new Ultium platform. Any thoughts on this?
@@arjunc2266 still love the Bolt. Doing pretty well in the Ohio winter. Little chance it will be discontinued this year since demand is through the roof. Really that's the biggest problem right now, people are saying they have to wait 6+ months to actually get one.
Ref: Charging ... Does your Bolt have preheating option for the battery❓👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Great video ... Thank you
It does have battery conditioning
Mines coming next week
Liked the video ! Had 2 questions. What’s the tint in your windows? My other is, what box are you taking about @7:15? You said it enables you to watch Netflix among other things. I’m currently waiting for my car to finish production. I’m excited !!!
15% tint and I have a video coming out about the box
Thank you so much for replying ! Can’t wait to see it. (:
the bolt seems cool 😎
Indeed
I love by 2019 Bolt EV, but knew going in that it's not a good road-tripping car. It's a great commuter, and if you NEED to take frequent road trips then it's not the right car for the job. I, fortunately, knew that going in. I've owned mine for two weeks shy of 4 years now and have only road-tripped it once (for my dad's funeral). It was 1,000 mile round trip in cold weather. It got the job done, but it really isn't the car to be doing that very often. It really is a shame they didn't up the EUV's charge rate to peak at like 125 kW. But like I said, they're great commuters. We just passed the 125k-mile mark in ours, and there's been zero issues with it (other than the need for the warranty battery swap of course).
Very nice 1k miles review. I've been looking on this for a while now and thinking going EV for our second car. I live in NJ where winter can affect the battery performance just wondering if you have insights. Thank you!
In colder climates all ev cars affect the battery… no way around it. Maybe a garage?
@@TTorres1183 thats another problem that I have. I dont have a closed garage. 🙄
I live on Ohio. Plan on losing 30% of your range when temps are in the 25-35 degree range. My '22 Bolt EUV went from 249 to 179.
I just heard that the 2023 Bolt EV I ordered will be in sometime next week. Looking forward to seeing how you make out with Qmerit. The Bolt is a great car. The price I’m paying for mine is equivalent to a really nice Honda Accord Sport, it’s just that I hate big oil and I’ll gladly getting a smaller car just so I don’t have to pay for gas ever again.
Your Bolt will be late…
Watch
@@youdontknowme2915 I received a text from the dealer yesterday that said my Bolt is in Twin Oaks Pa. which is 60 miles from the dealer. It was shipped by rail to the Philly area and is waiting to be loaded on a carrier. Delivery to the dealer is expected early next weel.
@@doggy911 i received a similar text right before Thanksgiving… still waiting
I wish your be best
@@youdontknowme2915 what is your dealer saying?
@@doggy911 saying they don’t know why the delay. Bolt is built, I have a VIN…. It is just siting
Did you ever install the box to allow UA-cam etc? I was wondering how that went. They are pretty expensive so I am nervous about getting one.
It works flawlessly
What system did you buy that will allow you to watch movies and Netflix inside the car?
That video will come out next week
How are you watching movies on that screen? Is there a modification, or an app? Thanks!
amzn.to/40yfuxp
How long did it take you to get the Qmerit charger installed?
Ehh maybe a week
I am thinking of getting a GM product, perhaps the Equinox EV.
It will be well worth it
So $25 additional after 2 or 3 yrs. For super cruise..man that's a tough one..thnx for info.
Yeah I’m pretty sure after 3 years you pay for it
Were the seats comfortable for a long drive?
I had no complaints
Just curious about the box you mentioned for watch videos on the infotainment, while charging. Can you tell me what you found?, How much?, And where to get?
Thanks!
Video coming soon on the box.
but how tall are you? will 6'3 300lbs fit?
I’m 6ft I think you’ll be fine. Lots of room in the car
🤑Ref: Solar panels ... Some States make it possible to sell your excess charge back to the grid ... More money saving
Sounds way to complicated for me when you go out of town,,,just not buying this total electric cars..maybe a combo of electric and gas but at this time these cars don't make sense
Not that complicated. You just have to be careful you can change en route. It’s like being in places where there are fewer gas stations - requires more care. That being said, this car was defined primarily to be a commuter not a cross-country driver. People who use it this way are pushing the boundaries.
For us a commuter and a family car is practical. Not everybody has the need/luxury of 2 cars. So if you’re doing road trips, ev and certainly an ev with limited range, probably doesn’t make as much sense.
Ok video. Needed more scenes of interior, rear storage, actual driving, etc.. videos is a guy talking. No offence but we want to see the car.
It’s coming in another video
Very ugly car, that's why it's Cheaper than most, plus outdated tech. And battery, really needs to be $20k, before tax credit
"very ugly"? whatever douchebag. Sure.. it's no Mercedes....but the styling looks like every other compact SUV. The tech is not outdated in the 2022-23 Bolts. The batteries are brand new too (due to the previous recall). Sure the charging rate is slow @ 55kw, but I'll trade a slower rate for a longer battery life. I traded in a 2017 Bolt for my 2022. I had 105k miles on it, and only lost 4% battery range.
I like the way it looks
What do you drive?
@@TTorres1183 model 3 rwd. And loving it.
@@tonyn3227 good luck doing anything RWD in the northeast.
Had plenty of friends with lots of close calls when sleet starts falling Dec-March.
Don’t get me wrong the Model 3 is a great car, but it’s a *different* value than what is offered by the EV/EUV. I think this is much more akin to an elevated econobox than a sporty sedan.
That’s why at a DCFC you only charge to 80% and then move on down the road to next charger needed. Charging rate drops off drastically after 80%
UNLESS you can/want to wait longer. Although most DCFC have a 60min time limit.
